The National Highway traffic Administration is recalling 11,974 General Motors Corp. Sierra and Chevrolet pickup trucks because the crankshaft positioning sensor can fail or operate intermittently.
Failure or intermittent operations will cause the truck to run rough and perhaps force the engine to stall.
If the sensors fail completely, consumers will be unable to restart the truck and NHTSA said that these failures can increase the risk of a crash.
GM dealers will replace the crankshaft positioning sensor free of charge when the recall begins in December.
Consumers can contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 and GMC at 1-866-996-9463.
