Gasoline prices are now above the $3 mark in 14 states as the national average price continues to race higher, with drivers paying a nationwide average of $2.94 a gallon for regular unleaded, up 12 cents from October 26.

Midgrade gasoline is up 12 cents to $3.12 a gallon and premium is up 13 cents to $3.24 a gallon, according to AAA of Heathrow, Florida.

Diesel fuel costs an average of $3.27 a gallon across the country and that is up 11 cents from last week.

E85 ethanol prices increased 11 cents to $2.38 a gallon. The price of a gallon of E85 is $3.13 or 14 cents higher than a week ago when adjusted to reflect the fuel's actual cost because of its lower energy content.

Drivers in Bedford, New York are paying nation's highest gasoline prices at $3.67 a gallon for regular unleaded. Runnemede, New Jersey is offering the lowest price for a gallon of regular at $2.57.

Here is a look at some gasoline prices from around the country in the ConsumerAffairs.com Gas Price Round Up.

California: Gas prices throughout California rose again during the week, posting a gain of nearly 40 cents since September 1.

The price of regular unleaded gasoline throughout California is now $3.22 a gallon, 22 cents higher than one month ago and 81 cents higher than one year ago.

Drivers in San Francisco are paying $3.36 a gallon for regular. Across the bay in Oakland regular sells for $3.27 and in San Jose gas costs $3.28 a gallon.

Sacramento is not far behind the Bay Area with gas prices averaging $3.24 a gallon.

The average price of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.16, which is 3.7 cents higher than last week, 20 cents above last month, and 75 cents more than last year.

In San Diego, the price is $3.19, which is 2.3 cents above last week's price, 20 cents up from last month, and 78 cents higher than last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.28, up 2 cents from last week, 19 cents above last month, and 59 cents more than last year.

In the Inland Empire, the average price is $3.16, 4 cents more than last week, 20 cents above last month, and 77 cents higher than last year.

"Although the price of a barrel of oil has increased more than 30 percent since September 1, gasoline has increased about 14 percent," said AAA spokesperson Carol Thorp. "To date, seasonally light demand seems to be keeping the higher price of oil from fully being felt at the pump."

Texas: Gas prices in San Antonio rose a whopping 11 cents over the week. San Antonio drivers can expect to pay $2.81 for a gallon of regular gasoline.

This is the third consecutive week that retail gasoline prices spiked throughout Texas, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

"Oil industry analysts say record crude oil prices hovering above $90 per barrel have put upward pressure on pump prices," says AAA Texas spokeswoman Rose Rougeau. "Every city surveyed saw substantial price increases this week."

The Houston area has the state's cheapest gas at $2.72, despite an increase of 10 cents. Amarillo has the state's highest gas average at $2.92 a gallon, up eight cents from last week.

Regular self-serve rose 9 cents to an average of $2.80 per gallon in 11 Texas cities in the weekly gasoline price survey.

Michigan: Gasoline costs shot up 20 cents more a gallon in the last 10 days, as oil prices continue their march towards $100 a barrel.

Pump prices across the state are averaging $3.10 a gallon. Gas costs increased 4 cents overnight Thursday and are 87 cents higher than they were at this time last year.

Pennsylvania: Prices at the pump are back near the $3 mark and they are soon likely to head above that mark.

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the Lancaster area is $2.91, up from $2.77 a month ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Gas Prices in Pennsylvania began the summer by pushing into the $3 territory, then dropping more than 20 cents during what is the normally busy driving season. Since the beginning of September, prices have been on a steady rise.

Last year at this time, the average price for a regular gallon of gas was only $2.16, according to AAA.

Florida: The average price for regular gasoline increased to $2.96 a gallon across the state.

The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area has the highest average price in the state at $3.01 a gallon for regular gasoline, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge survey.

The record high for gas prices in Florida was set May 24, when regular gasoline averaged $3.14 a gallon statewide.

Randy Bly, a fuel market analyst for AAA, said gas prices normally increase around Thanksgiving, a peak travel time, then subside, before rising again around Christmas.

"I think we'll see more Florida markets reaching the $3-a-gallon mark in the immediate future," Bly said. "As long as oil prices stay high, we won't see gas prices come down anytime soon."
