Chrysler Drops Four Models, Cuts Jobs

Two new hybrid SUVs in the pipeline

The automaker will drop the Dodge Magnum, the Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible, the Chrysler Pacifica crossover and the Chrysler Crossfire convertible.

At nearly the same time, Chrysler plans to add two new vehicles to its line up, the Dodge Journey crossover and Dodge Challenger coupe.

The automaker also plans two new hybrid SUVs, the Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango.

Chrysler will also eliminate 8,500 to 10,000 hourly jobs before the end of 2008 as the new management struggles to cut expenses.

Another 1,000 salaried jobs will be cut as well as 37 percent of the automaker's contract workers.

Chrysler also plans to will eliminate hourly and salaried overtime.
