Chrysler Beats Ford in November SalesFord Slips to #4 Spot for First Time |

By Joe Benton December 4, 2006
Topping off a troubling sales report for the month, Ford found itself in fourth place behind General Motors Corp, Toyota Motor Corp. and Chrysler, increasing concerns about the automaker's future. The comparisons with Chrysler include all brands sold under the banners of DaimlerChrysler and Ford Motor. DaimlerChrysler includes Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, Chrysler Division and Jeep. Ford Motor Co. takes in Ford division, Lincoln, Mercury, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo. If you count only North American brands, Ford held a slim sales lead over the Chrysler group in November of 1,640 units. Sales of Ford's F-Series pickups fell 16 percent in November, a drop analysts attribute to the Chrysler Group's aggressive discounting of the Dodge Ram truck. Ford's domestic brand sales fell 10.6 percent in November, in part because of a drop in Taurus sales to rental car companies as Ford ended production of its one-time best-seller. General Motors extended its lead as the No. 1 automaker, increasing sales 6 percent. GM benefited from increased demand for its new, large sport utility vehicles, particularly high-trim and luxury versions. Sales of the Cadillac Escalade more than doubled in November. GM is now rolling out its new large pickups. Toyota's sales jumped 15.9 percent, expanding its share of the U.S. market by nearly two points to 16.4 percent. November marked the second time Toyota surpassed Ford in the U.S. market. Already ahead of Ford globally, Toyota first outsold Ford in the United States in July. Report Your Experience
