Gasoline prices are now declining ever so slightly, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge. The decrease comes just as the
average national price for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline was closing in on the record high of $3.05.
The average price of regular unleaded gasoline is $2.997 a gallon, just a fraction of a penny under $3. One month ago a
gallon of regular sold for an average of $2.96, according to AAA. One year ago a gallon of regular self serve cost $2.48.
Regular gasoline is selling for $3 a gallon or more in 25 states and the District of Columbia but that is a decrease of
four states where gas is selling for an average price of $3 or more.
Midgrade and premium prices have dropped 4 cents a gallon from four days ago. Midgrade is selling for an average of
$3.18 gallon, while premium is selling for $3.30 a gallon.
The most expensive gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in found in Needles, California where one station is charging
$3.79. In Georgetown, South Carolina a gallon of regular unleaded costs as little as $2.39. That is the lowest price in
the country.
