The national average for a gallon of regular self serve gasoline is now resting at $3.03, just two cents shy of the record set following Hurricane Katrina. The lowest average price for regular gasoline in the country is now found is South Carolina at $2.86. The most expensive gallon or regular gasoline is found in Hawaii at $3.36 followed by California at $3.21. Midgrade gasoline is selling for an average national price of $3.22 and premium sells for $3.33. One month ago regular gasoline sold for $2.96. One year ago regular gasoline sold for $2.39 a gallon. Prices have held steady following the BP decision to shut down its Alaskan pipeline for repairs despite predictions that the closure would add as much as a nickel to the price of a gallon of gasoline. Here is a look at some gasoline prices from around the country. California: Gas prices continued to decline this week for the fourth straight week, according to AAA of Southern California. The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.23, which is nine-tenths of a cent lower than last week, six cents lower than last month and 57 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.39, up seven-tenths of a cent from last week, three cents below last month and 63 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average price is $3.25, down 1.6 cents from last week, five cents below last month and 60 cents higher than last year. "Southern California prices have been stable for nearly a month despite Alaska pipeline problems and an on-going Middle East war," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "It's too early to know if the latest threat involving air travel will affect fuel prices. In the past, terrorist threats depressed prices on speculation that the public would reduce traveling." Texas: Motorists are paying an average of $2.93 a gallon at the pump this week, up two cents from last week, according to AAA-Texas. AAA reports that the lowest prices in the state were in Corpus Christi at $2.85 a gallon and the highest were in Amarillo at $3.02 a gallon. Throughout Texas, prices range from $2.75 in Gunter to $3.17 a gallon in Dallas. Florida: Pain at the pump continues as Florida set a record for high gas prices, with a state average of $3.03. That is up from $2.96 a month ago and $2.38 a year ago. Gas prices in Brevard County remained steady, hovering between $2.91 and $3.05. Report Your Experience
