By Joe Benton June 13, 2006
The average price of regular unleaded gasoline remains at $2.90 a gallon and that is the same as on Friday, June 9. Midgrade and premium gasoline prices are also unchanged with midgrade selling for an average of $3.08 a gallon and premium fuel costing an average of $3.19. The average price for gasoline is about the same as one month ago. One year ago a gallon of regular gasoline sold for $2.13. The average for a gallon of diesel fuel rose a penny from last Friday, to $2.97. The most expensive gallon of regular gasoline is found in Needles, California where regular sells for $3.89. Norwood, Ohio enjoys regular gasoline selling $2.49 a gallon, the lowest price seen in the country. Here is a look as some gasoline prices from around the country in the ConsumerAffairs.com gas price round up. Connecticut: Drivers may not be spending as much at the pump, at least if you look at state gas tax revenues. Taxes are off nearly $3 million so far this year. The 25-cent-a-gallon tax is added to the price at the pump. The Department of Revenue Services is reporting that it's collected about $297 million from the gas tax in the first 10 months of this budget year compared to about $300 million for the same period a year ago. According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of unleaded gas in Connecticut, including the gasoline tax, is $3.21. The AAA says gasoline prices in the Northeast have gone down in recent weeks, except in Connecticut. Elsewhere in the region, New Hampshire and Maine reported the lowest prices at $2.81 a gallon. The national average reported today is $2.90 a gallon, a decline from May's average of $2.93. Maine: Gasoline prices in Portland are nearly ten cents a gallon cheaper than the national average. That's according to AAA, which said a gallon of unleaded now averages $2.81 in Maine. That's six cents cheaper than a month ago, but 67 cents more expensive than last year at this time. North Carolina: Gas prices are leveling off. AAA Carolinas says prices have been holding steady the past few days. That's because demand is down and supply is up. The average price in North Carolina is $2.82. While gas prices have been on shaky ground recently with hurricane season approaching, things might get a little shakier in the weeks ahead.
