The Office of Defect Investigations at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating consumer complaints that the tire pressure and regulating system on the 2004 and 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan can fail.
In one incident, a consumer reported that by the time he pulled his Toyota Sienna to the side of the road the tire was smoking and had burst into flame but the warning light failed to come on.
NHTSA has received 12 reports complaining that the tire pressure warning system did not illuminate when tire pressure was low or the tire was flat.
NHTSA has opened a preliminary evaluation to assess the scope, frequency and safety related consequences of the Toyota Sienna tire pressure and regulating system.
