Federal regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have opened an investigation into the Dodge Durango because consumers have complained about fires starting under the driver's seat.
NHTSA estimates there are 15,381 Durangos from model years 2001 through 2003 that could potentially be affected by the probe. The Durangos NHTSA is looking are not equipped with power driver's seat adjustments.
Consumers have reported five fires. Three of the fires occurred while the ignition key was turned off. The fires have not resulted in any injuries.
