GM Greens Up Saturn Image with "Mild Hybrids" |
August 3, 2005
Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak described the Green Line Saturn a having a “mild hybrid system,” yielding roughly a 10 percent savings in fuel economy compared with a conventional gasoline engine. According to Ljdzaik, a “mild Hybrid” Saturn has a starter/generator system that will save fuel by shutting down the engine when the vehicle slows and stops. The first Green Line Saturn, a version of the Vue SUV equipped with the fuel-saving starter/generator, goes on sale next summer as a 2007 model. The Green Line vehicles will give consumers improved fuel economy and GM hopes that the line will bolster Saturn's faded image as an environmentally friendly brand. Report Your Experience
