The world’s largest automaker will mark down its products again with deep discounts. General Motors Corp. is offering customers the same price reductions available to employees of the automaker's suppliers.

The supplier price is just above the invoice price paid by dealers.

Consumers may be able to purchase some models for even less than the summer's employee discount plan, depending on the other incentives available.

The discounts, which will last through Jan. 3, will be available on all 2005 and 2006 Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick and GMC models. Excluded from the new sale are the Chevrolet Corvette, Buick Lucerne and the Pontiac Solstice.

October was a horrible month for GM. Wall Street was turned up its nose at GM stock and consumers took a pass on the automaker’s cars and trucks.

Financial analysts point out that GM is in a bind after two months of poor sales even though part of the weakness in the demand for GM models reflects the results of the summer-long employee discount sales.

Earlier this month when, U.S. automakers reported October sales, many executives said they expected that November would also be a tough month for GM as well and demand might not pick up until the big December promotions.

The October sales rate was the lowest in seven years. The results could have been even worse if automakers hadn't received a significant boost from sales to corporate and rental-car fleets propping up the dismal figures. The GM fleet sales were up 33 percent for the month.
