Saturn Recalls 254,000 L-Series Cars

June 24, 2003
General Motors Corp. is recalling about 254,000 model year 2000-2003 Saturn L-Series cars equipped with 2.2 liter engines because of potential exhaust system failures that could result in fires.

The company said it has received seven reports of fires so far but no reports of crashes or serious injuries.

To remedy the problem, GM said it will replace the ignition module and spark plugs in the vehicles. On 2002-2003 models, GM said it would also reprogram the powertrain control module.

The recall affects vehicles sold in the United States and Canada.
