Proteva, HSN Hit With Class Action Suit

CHICAGO, Sept. 24, 1999 -- Acting on complaints filed with ConsumerAffairs.Com, the Chicago law firm of Horwitz, Horwitz and Associates has filed a class action lawsuit against Proteva Computer Corporation and Home Shopping Network.

The action was filed in the Northern District Court of Illinois and alleges that the companies defrauded consumers by failing to provide adequate support, failing to mail rebates and utilizing used parts in their product.

Attorney Cliff Horwitz said the recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Proteva "may or may not" block parts of the action from progressing.

"It's unfortunate that so many people spent all of their spare money buying these computers, only to find, far too often, that the computer never worked properly," Horwitz said.

Proteva filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition with the U.S. District Court in Chicago earlier this month, citing debt of more than $10 million to Microsoft, 3Com, Federal Express and other vendors.
