On Sept. 26, Sriram of San Diego wrote:
I contracted with National Moving Network to move my household goods from New Castle, DE to San Diego, CA. The contract included a full-replacement valuation of up-to $20,000 with zero deductible for my goods in the event that they should be damaged/lost. This contract was drawn up and attested by Mr. Tony McDay of National Moving Network.

National Moving Network assigned GDK movers to do the actual hauling. GDK movers delivered the shipment on 8/13/2000 with 2 items damaged and 2 missing. These have been noted on the copy of the Bill of Lading, and are listed as follows:

  • Broken upright dresser $200
  • Broken glassware $15
  • Missing Vacuum Cleaner $200
  • Missing clothes suitcase $300
  • TOTAL damages $715

I contacted National Moving Network on 8/14/00 and was instructed to file a claim with GDK. GDK refused to carry out the full replacement. GDK claims that it does not provide a full-replacement valuation and only carries the basic shipper's liability of 60¢/pound. I have repeatedly contacted National Moving Network and have failed to obtain a response from them. The person who I have spoken with is Mr. Andy from customer service. Despite having purchased the valuation policy ahead of time, I have to date been unable to claim the full replacement value for the damages I have incurred.

    Jackie of Chicago:
I entered into a moving contract with National Moving Network and I paid for the additional insurance for an amount of $10,000. National subcontracted Mid-Continent to pick up my items and drive them to the destination. When they arrived my furniture was destroyed and National is telling me that the additional insurance I purchased is not enforced through them.

They claim that Mid-Continent is responsible for taking care of the insurance claim even though I paid National. It looks as if someone threw my furniture into a steel wall repeatedly. Now I have no furniture and they are telling me that they are not responsible for the insurance policy that I purchased through them. Mid-Continent is telling me that they did not sell me insurance and that's why they are not willing to pay.
