Moving Man Inc.

Doreen of New York NY (11/3/03):
I contracted with this company to move my two rooms of furniture. I saw them load my 32-inch sony wega TV on the truck and when they delived the furniture to my mew home 23 blocks from where they removed the furniture there was no TV. There were three movers. The furniture was in my lobby waiting to be loaded and they claim someone walked off with the TV. I confronted them and told them I saw them lift the TV into the truck. That TV was very heavy and I was watching them concerned about them dropping it but they got it into their truck. Now they want me to believe I could not have seen them put it in the truck, it is three of them against me. They screwed up snd I want the same TV.

Juan of Kennesaw GA (6/20/02):
Back in March I scheduled a Move from NYC to Atlanta. I called Moving Man, Inc, and they sent out an estimator. Darian arrived several days later. After looking over all of the items being shipped, he gave me an estimate of 7800 lbs going 838 miles totaling $7088.93. In addition to this cost was the cost of materials and packaging that totaled $1,200.00. With the 50% discount, the total came to a little over $4,100.00.

Moving Man, Inc came to my apartment on June 6th, as planned, to perform the move. I had decided to pack most of my belongings myself to circumvent toe $600 packing cost. Moving Man performed the move and instructed me to call back the next day to get the final cost. On Friday, June 7th I called back to find out the estimate. Because it was early in the morning, the young lady I spoke to instructed me to call back. I called back at approximately 4:30 pm and was given a quote of 855 miles 5900 lbs for the move at $5,671.15. The packing was another $207.00. This should have brought my total to $5,878.15. With the 50% discount, my total should have been $2,939.08. Unfortunately, my total came to $3,853.68.

Perplexed by this I called Moving Man and spoke the young lady again (she seems to answer the phone a lot). She informed me that Darian made a mistake with his estimate and that she understood that I was upset, but she could not do anything. She then told me to call on Monday to speak with John S. I called Monday, and after several attempts, finally spoke to Mr. S. . After trying to talk to Mr. S. about the situation, we could not come to a resolution. He kept trying to get me off the phone, but I kept insisting that as the customer he should make me feel comfortable with the charges. Finally he broke down the charges and mentioned two fees that were not included with the estimate (and that Darian never mentioned when I specifically asked if the quote he gave me would be all that I would be charged for). The first was a transportation fee totaling $411.82. Then there was an Add’l Trans Dest. fee of 208.27.

In addition there were two other fees: fuel surcharge and ins. Surcharge totaling 340.27. The total charges that were not included anywhere in the initial contract (which Darian guaranteed me was accurate based on his estimated weight) was $960.36. These fees were not included in the original estimate and Mr. S. , obviously thinking I was an idiot, informed me that although they were not itemized on the estimate, they were included in the estimated cost ($7,088.93) of the move.
