Someone called my 80-year old husband, who is deaf, identifying themselves as Forbes Magazine. He couldn't understand this person and asked him or her to call back when I was home. This person called back and intimated that my husband had agreed to extend his subscription to Forbes and only needed the number off the back of our Visa and expiration date, saying she already had the card number. Like a fool, I gave her the numbers but never did get the price. The following Saturday, my husband got a letter in the mail from Magazine Network saying he would be billed for $149.97 on our visa if he did not call the number in the letter. I called immediately but it was Saturday and they were closed.
When I called on Monday, the charge had already been processed and they refused to cancel. They gave me the number of Solutions. I called and raised Cain. An "account manager" called back with the opening, "This is Forbes Magazine." I told him he was not, he was Magazine Solutions. He said he would reduce the cost to $99.99 for three years and I agreed to that as the best way out. I pointed out that my subscription is already paid for this year until January 2011. He said he would put a confirmation in the mail but we have not yet received it and there is no refund on our visa bill. I notified visa of the problem and been told they have had a lot of complaints about magazines. These people have all the morality of thieves. I am writing the FTC and the Attorney General of the State of Florida to complain.
