Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I do not recall agreeing to the outrageous amount of money for mags. They say they have it all recorded. I cannot image paying 49.90 a month for 5 yrs. I am trying to cancel this and they day I still have 30 months left on the agreement. I do not have the money to pay for this. To make matters even worse. I am only getting 2 of the 5 I supposedly ordered. I have actually renewed the 2 directly with the mag, so I don't understand what this company is all about. The lady named "Sally" was extremely rude and yelled at me the entire conversation. I really need to get out of this now and would love to have my money returned.

This morning, I got a phone call from Central Renewal Service asking me to verify my information. They said that I had signed up for multiple magazine subscriptions totaling 49.99 a month. I said that, I didn't know what they were talking about and that I had never signed up for anything. They repeated back a credit card number to me that had been cancelled and said I signed up in September. I told them that card had been reported as lost or stolen and the guy actually gave me attitude and asked then how did they have all my other info. They intimidated me and spoke very fast and basically wouldn't let me off the phone unless i gave them a new number. I eventually gave them another credit card number but asked that they not charge it until next week so I could investigate further.

They agreed. When I got off the phone, after a brief freak out, I called my bank. I confirmed what I suspected which was that the card number they had originally was a card that had been cancelled in April making it impossible that I had signed up for anything with it in September. I tried to call Central Renewal Service back but the number they called me on was not in service and I didn't have the toll free number because they spoke so fast and hadn't allowed me to ask questions.

I then called my other credit card company and cancelled my card and reported any charges from this date forward as fraudulent. It was then that I learned that they had already charged my card three times for three different amounts. I got the toll free number off my statement and called Central Renewal.

I told them that I had reported this as fraud with both my bank and credit card company and that I would not pay for any of it. The new customer service rep. at that point, told me that she could cancel my subscription, something they told me I couldn't do before, and that she would refund my money. Hopefully this matter is resolved now but this company should be reported.

I was called and told that I had agreed to pay $49.99/month for magazines and that if I disagreed about this, my best choice would be to decrease the amount and time of my renewal and agree to pay $39.99 a month. I didn't know what else to do but to agree. I guess it was a sham to get me to agree. They said that I must have thrown away the 'original' paper work.

They called and asked me to continue my subscriptions and sold me a package of magazines that I never wanted in the first place. They misrepresented themselves and sent me a letter saying that I need to pay $49.95 a month for 30 months. This is a scam and the company should be shutdown. I am filing a complaint to terminate my subscription that I never agreed to and want all payments refunded.

The whole thing is a scam. I am not willing to pay for something I don't need. Please let me know what legal recourse I have for terminating this service.

Central Renewal Service had called me today saying that through some shopping network, I have subscribed to their magazine program. That CRS has been prepaid for the subscriptions and I will be charged for 60 months. The only way for me to stop this is to pay $49.99 and opt out of the renewal. There is economic damage to me because there is no way to cancel the subscription. I am obligated to pay and that they are going to charge my credit card for the amount for 60 months.

After filing a complaint with my states attorney general as well as the better business bureau and sending a copy of them to the company along with an angry letter, I received an email from them saying they were cancelling my order and refunding any payments that they billed to my debit card.

I agreed to a 1-yr subscription for 1 magazine from a door-to-door salesman about 7 months ago. I paid 80 something bucks on the spot, which was more than I expected but foolishly agreed to. I received 1 issue 3 months ago only. Several days ago, I received a call from them apologizing for the delay in receiving my 3 subscriptions (not one) and was also told that I agreed to 36 mos for $60 a month. After trying to explain to them that I had agreed to only a one year subscription for one magazine, they told me that I had agreed to the 3-yr subscription to 3 magazines and they offered to reduce the monthly charge to $39 and that they would knock off 6 mos. Is there any recourse for me?

I got a call about a free gas card so I accepted, like a fool I gave out my info. Then I decided to cancel and I did. Got an ok that everything was cancelled. Continued to receive calls from other magazine companies and they said that they were pretend magazine companies, acting like other companies to get your money. I was confused and said do not call me. I told them that I cancelled and they said they had my info open right in front of them and that I never cancelled. I told them, I spoke to someone and cancelled, they said you have to contact customer services to do so.

I was mad and said then why did someone tell me it was cancelled. They then said my charge would be $50.00 and I said no, I cancelled they said if you cancel it will be a $300 cancellation fee and I said no way. I then cancelled my credit card with the bank and told them to not allow any transactions from any magazine companies. I was told over the phone that I am under contract and not remembering what I had said in the conversation. I never signed any contract stating anything about magazines, so i will not pay anything anymore.

I received a call from a rep from Central Renewal Service (it was an Arizona phone number even though the company is in Bentonville, AR). This rep told me that magazines I had supposedly subscribed to (which I had not) were being delayed in getting to me. I explained to her that I had not subscribed to the magazines she listed, so she relayed me to her supervisor Peggy. Peggy explained that somehow, I had ordered something online and that I had agreed to the terms and conditions which included a magazine subscription. I knew nothing about magazine subscriptions.

I had received the same promotional package that Charles in Pulaski received for gas, hotel and other discounts and canceled it within the thirty days, also thinking that was the end of it. Now, I got this phone call today about magazines I didn't order. Peggy said this account had been active for 6 months but there had been a delay in getting the magazines out. She then offered to take off the 6 months of payment and then discount the monthly price of the magazines from $68 something to $39.90/month for 30 months! I ranted about not having ordered these magazines, but she said her hands were tied and that I could not get out of it. Not knowing what else to do, I agreed to this discounted offer. She took the magazines I had supposedly signed up for off the account and said she would send me another list of magazines that I might prefer.

Now that I know what this is tied to (the original promotional package), I would like to know what I can do to get rid of this. I do not want any magazines! I consider this to be a scam. I hope this comes to a class action lawsuit and that this "company" shuts down! My credit card will be charged $39.90 for 30 months, for a total of $1197.

Several months ago, I agreed to receive a promotional package in the mail. If I took the offer, I would pay so much a month and receive big discounts at gas stations and other places. After I hung up the phone, I thought why did I agree to this offer? Oh well, I thought, I'll just cancel it when the package arrives in the mail since I have thirty days to decide. When the package arrived, I found the cancellation phone number and cancelled the offer, thinking that was the end of it.

What I didn't know was that hidden in all the brochures and pamphlets was a magazine subscription. This subscription was one that automatically went into effect if I didn't cancel in 2 months. I didn't cancel it because I didn't even see it and I thought cancelling the gas savings deal would cancel everything. A few days ago, the lady called me up to confirm my address or something. I said what for? She said for the magazine subscription. I said what magazine subscription? It seems that I agreed to a 3 yr subscription to a bunch of stupid magazines for a total of $1,700.

I was livid. I raved and ranted and then hung up the phone. She called me back and said hanging up the phone isn't going to get you out of the subscription. Then she offered me a deal where she would get the subscription down to 2 1/2 years and reduce the monthly charge by ten dollars. Like an idiot, I agreed to it. After thinking about it, I called back and got another girl. I told her that I didn't want any magazine subscription whether it was the one that came with the gas savings offer or the one that I was offered at the reduced number of months and payments. The girl said the only transaction she had for me was the one I had just made that day, so I cancelled it and got a confirmation number. Then I cancelled my MasterCard and ordered a new one. So far, I haven't received any magazines, and if I do I will not open them. The first lady who called me said they had already billed the magazine company so I was obligated to pay. What should I do?
