Legal Helpers

Kristine of Atco, NJ April 20, 2009

Kristine of Atco NJ (04/20/09)
My husband contracted with Legal Helpers aka Macey & Aleman for our bankruptcy over the internet back in December of 2007! he made payments and finished up 12/01/08 a year later. Three revised petitions later, my name is incorrect, there is missing debt, and real estate surrendered is still listed on schedule F instead of D. I finally gave up and sent certified mail and fax notice of termination on April 7th and demanded a full refund in 10 business days, deadline is tomorrow. Since then, L. Shottenfeld called and tried to keep us on the next day, I explained and said I was dissatisfied with our service and that there simply were too many errors on all the petitions and that their streamlined service sucked and that they needed to sit down with their clients as you cannot talk to an attorney otherwise. She pursued to tell me that all administrative fees would be deducted so I requested time sheet back up.

On April 10th, someone named Jen called and explained that the reason things were taking so long is because we are border line chapter 13. I explained that if anyone actually did review our case they would realize that 131k of that debt was on the wrong schedule! She however explained to me, since I would not keep them on my refund would be expedited to accounting. Jen assured me with my request that I would have a completely detailed breakdown of all charges as once again I requested time sheet detail. This company is HORRIBLE, it has to be an embarrassment not to even get your clients name wrong but the documentation I have could have been done better by myself. On Wednesday the 22nd, I will be going to file for fee arbitration or small claims. I think there should be mass law suit for there incompetence.

I have a creditor (Honesdale National Bank) who does not even believe we have an attorney because she would call, even a week before I terminated and all they said was, there was no status on our case. Our phones are unplugged because of the harassing debt collectors, we are receiving summons for court and they never responded on our behalf.

I contacted legal helpers over a year ago to file a chapter 7 bankruptsy. I feel they are inept at doing their job. Its been 5 months since I made my last payment to them for their services and they have yet to get me a court date. Instead they refuse to return my numerous phone calls, when I call I can never speak to my attorney. They recently lost all my paper work and I had to redo it all over again and when I went into their office yesterday I had to wait 2 hours just for them to tell me they wrote my appointment time down wrong and I have to go back next week instead. I feel I have been ripped off my legal helpers and would like to get my money back but I'm sure I would get the run around about that too.

Still being harrassed by creditors, wasted my money that I could not afford on legal helpers, they were supposed to get my car payments reduced but refuse to give me a court date so I'M ABOUT READY TO LOSE MY CAR !

I paid the 100 fee, with a written agreement that after all fees are paid they will begin processing paperwork in 10 days. I paid all fees. About 4 months later they send paperwork to a wrong address after I wrote to them and expressly stated where I was going to be. I was promised multiple times that I would recieve services, however, no services were ever delivered to me.

When I called for an explaination the person was confused about what they had on their computer screen but would not admit a mistake on their part. I was unable to talk to my lawyer whenever I called despite my request to do so. I have canceled services on 10/16/08 (for the second time) They apparently don't know how to do it the first time.

In the written agreement they have 10 days to proceed with paperwork after the final payment is made. They have failed to to that. They also have 30 days to return all refunds - after their poor performance so far the jury is out whether I will recive anything. I feel there is a breach of contract with services promised and services rendered.

Jamila of Chicago IL (06/04/08)
In about October of 2006 I rendered the services of Legal Helpers to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy. I have paid them 500.00 to date. On about April 4, 2008 I faxed them a letter requesting that my request be cancelled and that any refunds due or correspondance be sent to my new homw address which I included on the fax. Prior to this I had request this service be cancelled two times in 2007 and that my address be changed with no response from the Company. Since the fax was sent I have called approximately five times to check it's status, including today. On time when the young lady realized I was calling about a refund her phone began to make the noise of a fax machine and she hung up on me.

Today I was told that accounting sent me a letter, tol my old address. Also that I paid 500.00 but the lawyer was paid 520.00 so I owe them, and that they could tell me any additional information until I recieved the letter. All I had was the free consultation and made about three calls to ask questions before I cancelled this service. I don't understand why I was charged 520.00 just for that. Futhermore, I have a serious problem with thier corporate office hanging up on me, I was not using fowl laguage nor yelling at anyone, while I will admit I was noticeably upset in customer service you shouldn't hang up on someone just because you don't want to or aren't allowed to answer their questions. I finally recieved a letter from them and they charged me for e-mails they recieved but never acted upon.

I paid them 500.00 and because of the excess charges, they say I spoke with an attorney over the phone for 18 minutes, they use a call center. They say I used an attorney for 30 minutes after the initial free consultation when? They charged me for e-mails they never acted upon.
