If you have retained an attorney and are not happy with his or her performance, you should contact your state bar association, which is responsible for enforcing rules of ethical conduct. Contrary to what many consumers believe, most state bars are very tough and mete out severe penalties to lawyers who seriously abuse their clients. Unfortunately, it's true that as in any field, there are average lawyers, incompetent lawyers and outstanding lawyers. For advice in selecting a lawyer, see Finding the Right Lawyer. For one lawyer's unvarnished view of other lawyers, see the Ask A Lawyer column at HorwitzLaw.Com. |
