I hired CLOA to help me with debt negotiation as I was desperately trying to avoid bankruptcy. I paid them close to $3000 and they never helped me at all. They did not deliver what was promised in the contract. I kept calling and got nowhere. My creditors began suing me and they were still not there to help but were quick to ask for more money. I decided to move on and had to file bankruptcy anyway. I sent certified letters, kept all documentation and this was just a big scam. How un-Christian-like to take advantage of people who are financially vulnerable.

This company took my money and transferred my paperwork to another law firm. Now, this new law firm said they were never paid and wants me to pay them for their services. It has been 10 months since the whole process started. I am unable to get in contact with anyone. All the phone numbers, addresses and e-mails do not work. I will be filing a complaint with the Bar. I will have to pay this new attorney because if I do not, he will send the file back to a ghost company, leaving me open for lawsuits from the credit card companies.
I hired Matthew ** and Christian Lawyers of America in August 2009 for a loan modification for a fee of $3595. I received a letter from my lender saying that the loan modification was denied for lack of paperwork. I have always had a difficult time reaching anyone at CLA and Matthew himself. All of my requests for contract cancellation and refunds have been ignored. I have filed a complaint with the California State Bar. Just curious, Susanne of Sacramento, how did you find the people to deliver your subpoena?
I'm getting the run-around. My case was being transferred around to several reps and then continuously calling not getting return calls. However, on 3/11, a Tom ** contacted my lender and cancelled my request for modification without contacting me and advising of such. I still to this day, attempting to contact a live person to request my refund of over $4,000.00.
We wished we had this website when we hired CLA. With continued faith, we were sure they couldn't possibly take advantage of us. This just couldn't be true. Christian Radio was where we heard Mr. **. We still have faith and believe there are good Christian people. He didn't tarnish our faith. Mr. ** will face his demons and Commander in Chief when the time comes. He took us for a lot of money. We are losing our home, our credit is shot and we have a big, big mess to clean up. God will take care of us, I know he will. I cannot say enough bad things about CLA or Mr. **, and really choose not to. I am just glad that people are voicing their options and hopefully he will never be able to take advantage of others again.
We did file a claim with the Attorney General and will be following up with the BBB and the Bar. We also have filed small claims suit against him and go to court on May 10th if he shows. Has anyone taken him to court yet? I think a letter to the President and Congress is in order also. I just might do that to stop this type of abuse of good people. I paid Matthew ** $3500 to modify two of my loans with Bank of America and The California Credit Union. This crook absconded with my money and is now doing business in San Diego. He never returned my numerous telephone messages and email messages. He guaranteed to modify my loans or provide a full refund. All this crook has done was take my money and run like the unscrupulous thief and liar that he is.
I hired CLOA to do a re-modification on my home. I paid them $3,995. After getting the runaround from San Diego to Woodland Hills, they are not doing business nor did they take care of mine. The bad thing is Denise called my lender so my lender would not talk to me as I was being represented from a lawyer. So I finally got a letter from another lawyer representing my lender for the money owed to them. I trusted this firm. I am a christian and heard from KKLA radio station. I should have been wiser but CLOA should not have used the Lord's name to profit. As scripture says, "You cannot serve two gods." I will probably lose our home. My credit is ruined and might have to file bankruptcy and I lost $4,0000.
I paid $6000 for debt negotiation services in March 2009 with an agreement to complete within 9 months. After 6 months and 5 different people handling account, I finally had to contact B of A myself before they filed a lawsuit against me. I have been trying for a year to get a refund and get nothing but false lies. I have plenty of correspondence to back up my claim. I am hiring an attorney on Monday to file a lawsuit. I've incurred $6000 for the retainer and whatever fees totaled up during this time, not to mention a year's worth of time dealing with getting 5 people up to speed through numerous emails and phone conversations.
I paid them in April 2009 $2,500 upfront for debt settlement, then additional $500 as part of a 10-month payment plan. I would call the La Mesa office. I would never get return phone calls until my husband got ugly and accused them of being unethical and dishonest, based on what they profess to be. They returned the phone call but nothing else from them subsequent to that.
After several months of no contact, in September 09, I sent letters to the radio station general manager and host where I heard their ad, complaining about them. Shortly thereafter, I got a phone call from Mr. Matthew M. He promised our case would be moved to the Woodland Hills office and gave me the name of the "attorney" handling it. He said this new person would call me. I never heard from them. I will be filing a complaint with the State Bar, after one more attempt to reach the WH person. We now have to file bankruptcy, another $4,000 of expense. My wages are being garnished. Our credit is trashed.
We, too, had a bad experience with CLA. They took our money and promised a modification within 90 days. It has been 10 months since we paid them and nothing has happened. The few times that I actually spoke with Deborah, she told me that she had sent the bank all of our information and that our modification was in process. We come to find out later, from the bank, that they had not received anything from her and that they had not even spoken with her. I, too, have asked for a refund of our money but have not heard back from them.
I have left many messages and emails but have not received a call. All we get when we call is their message center which can't do anything to help or give any information. They cannot provide an address. My next step is to contact the Attorney General and file a complaint with them. Our credit has been ruined.
I paid money upfront to this firm towards help with Debt Settlement. I was passed around from person to person, trying to get updates and information regarding our accounts. Ultimately, the communication completely stopped. They no longer return calls or emails. The service that answers the phone lines cannot even confirm an office location. They took so many families' money and ran.
This is both a review and compliant. In April 06, 2009, I attended a presentation presented by the CEO of this company. After taking my information, CLA made promises that they will help me get a loan modification within four months. I was asked to pay a fee of $3995.00 of which I would receive 70% of if the loan modification is not successful. Since the beginning, I've been gotten to the point where they cannot be contacted (phones disconnected and company location closed down).
On July 09, 2009, CLA informed me that my case was submitted to the lender. I recently found out through the bank that there is neither case panding nor inquiries noted from CLA regarding me case. Which tells me that in eleven months, nothing has been done with my case? I contacted Mr. ** via email after finding this out. He responded a couple of times, but when I requested that CLA close my case and refund to me the 70% owed to me, he stop all communication with me. I want others to know about my bad experience in dealing with CLA. I know that I am not alone in this that many are also being deceived by CLA.
I signed up for a loan modification with Christian Lawyer on 10/03/2009 with Tim ** for the amount of $3000. After Tim ** quit within a month, Denise ** took on my case promising that my modification was already being processed with Chase Bank. Well, as I call Chase for updates on my modification, there were no records of any modification through Christian Lawyers of America. As I try contacting Denise, she also had quit the company. At this point, I decided to go to their offices and they were no longer there. When I called the company again, they are refusing to give me a new address where they are located. They are still taking forms, and their company is still active. They are refusing a refund g the $3000.
