Prodigy

Patricia of Rochester, MN, writes:

The Best Buy company in Rochester, Mn is selling computers with great discounts if costumers lock in to contracts with Prodigy Internet Service.

We have locked in for a 3-year contract that is supposed to allow us unlimited access to the internet.  Since this offer has been made, there have been more and more times where accessing the internet has not been possible during peak hours (between 5 and 10 p.m.).

We have documented 8 such occurrences between 9/21 and 11/3 of this year.  We have also contacted Prodigy a number of times with our concerns.

Twice Prodigy has credited us with our monthly fee, but access to the internet has not improved, in fact, it has worsened.  My husband can only access the computer after his working hours and he feels his "unlimited access" is severely limited.

Best Buy continues to advertise the Prodigy rebates for purchasing computers, and as more people take advantage of the discounts, more people are getting online and making it more and more difficult to access the internet.  My husband compares it to an airline selling more tickets for airtravel than it knows it has seats for.

Prodigy assures me that they are working on adding new numbers to access the internet (there is currently only one in Rochester, MN), but when pressed for a timeline, they cannot come up with any prediction.  In the meantime, we continue to pay for unlimited service that is sorely limited.
