Consumer Complaints

Bradley of Grand Haven MI (03/14/09)
I am writing to get some very small satisfaction against the abuse I've suffered from these thieves. I contacted Peoplepc in October of 2007 in order to cancel my acct. I provided all of the required information and the service person seemed to indicate that I was cancelled. She said and sir, as a courtesy for being a peoplepc customer I'd like to offer to remain connected for two months free of charge. If you change your mind about cancelling, please call us again and we'd be happy to sign you up again. You know, I try not to be too suspicious, but I really should have smelled something bad there. It is over a year later and, I'm ashamed to admit, I failed to notice the monthly charges continuing against my credit card.

Thank heavens I was issued a new card number recently since I got a call from peoplepc, out of the blue (thought I'd heard the last of them over a year ago), to please give my new card number since my last payment was declined. What payments? What account? I'm really madder than heck right now, but a couple of hours on the phone has convinced me that this company has more contact firewalls set up between the actual owners than bin-laden. They finally told me to contact Earthlink since they are their owners, but Earthlink also picked up the phone in India and refused to acknowledge a connection to PeoplePc (but would be happy to give me their toll free number). I see from reading here that it's likely to be no use at all trying to get any satisfaction.

I hate to say I've learned something here because I generally tend to distrust corporations anyway, and it's a terrific shame that they show so much of this sort of dishonest behaviour on a daily basis, futher eroding consumer's faith in their integrity as a group. This is fraud, pure and simple. If I can talk just one person out of getting involved with this company, I will feel I've gotten a bit of recompense. With any luck, I can dissuade a dozen from risking such fate. Please stay away from PeoplePc.

I subscribed to their Internet dial-up access service a few years ago for my father to use it. He ended up not using the service. I tried to cancel the service by using the phone number they list on their website. I made multiple attempts to do so in October and November, 2008, each time receiving a recorded message staying that their lines were too busy and that I would need to call back. In DEcember, 2008, I finally had to get my bank to change the debit card I was using to pay the monthly bill as the only means to stop the service.

I am now receiving collection notices from PeoplePC's appointed agency stating that I owe them 29.20 in unpaid charges. I would like them to waive this charge based on their inability to process my cancellation calls. This is an unethical business practice - no waiting to sign up for new service, but no time to accept cancellation requests.

This company will charge your account as often as they like. I was charge twice in one month. I was told it was because I didn't pay the previous month. When I showed the bank statement saying I did pay for the previous month, I was told I would be credited for the following month. The following month, I get a call stating my account was pass due and in order to keep my service, I have to first pay, then they will work out the details. I pay. I was never credited. I thought, it's only 9.95 BUT this stuff is adding up. 1.00 here and 1.00 there was coming off my card from PeoplePC.

Is there anyone else out there that has 1.00 amounts taken out from PeoplePC? Has anyone else recieved phone calls and no one says anything, then hang up. Following, PeoplePC calls? This happens to me and the amount is never applied to my account. When I called and asked why, I was told, the first time, we are not allowed to give out that information. On a different time, in one day, they hit my card for 1.00 three times. That amount didn't apply to my account.

I called again and asked why. I was told. we do not have a record of that transaction. I went off! I told them to cancel my account today, 03/05/2009. There has to be some way of stopping these people. I would gladly take part of any action taken.

I cancelled my service two months ago because I never received whatever disk they were suppose to send me for fast internet service, which I later found out I could pick up the disk at Circuit City, I complained and cancelled the order they credited my account back for 4.00 but now they keep billing my debit card and will not take no for an answer. When you call them they almost try to force you into not cancelling. What a scam they are.

Wasted time hours waiting for someone to help me with my situation, when they do finally arrive after using my month's cell phone time up, you can hardly understand their broken English.

My wife had an account with People PC. My wife is now disabled and had to cancell her account. People PC then called to say there was a 9.99 balance. I told them to send me a bill and I would pay them that day. The bill was never sent. People PC calls my invalid wife daily, even on Sundays, looking for their 9.99. I spoke with a customer rep , who said they do not send paper invoices. The rep wanted MY credit card numbers or checking account number. I do not deny the charge, but their harrasment of the eldery/invalid is incredibale.
