AT&T Broadband - Billing Issues

Kathleen of Bilerica MA (8/15/01):
I ordered the package for internet, phone and cable and was quoted a special price of $128 per month. When I was receiving bills for $135 I did not notice thinking the additional charge was taxes, etc. I ordered the service in March, 2001. Then in July, 2001 I received a separate phone bill for $15 and the usual bill for $135. I called and was advised that the phone was billed separately, but I never received a phone bill till then. Now this means I am paying well over the quoted price.

After my call with customer service, I received a bill a few weeks ago for phone service for the past 3 months! They cannot expect me to pay this and were is the package price I was quoted when I ordered service? My email is very important and to change address will affect my business. It is morally wrong that consumers have to deal with this kind of customer service,

It has been exhausting. Being transferred from one person to the next, being placed on hold for 5-8 minutes at a time, sending email with no responses. The out of pocket expenses are starting to hit hard. I didn't realize, I'd be paying over $165 a month to have a phone, cable and internet. It is economically wrong!

Sherry of Los Banos CA (7/6/01):
I discovered that I was being charged more per month on my bill than the same services as AT&T's Gold Package. My account was established in mid-October 1998 and according to AT&T's press release of August 15, 2000, the packaging prices were to go into effect shortly. I do not recall any opportunity being given to me to have my monthly rate reduced and I feel that there are likely thousands of other consumers who are still being charged at a higher rate because AT&T has not seen fit to make this information available to consumers.

Perhaps I am missing some legal point, but I do know that ethically something smells sour. What is more, from customer service clerks to a supervisor in the Sacramento office (who was unwilling to give her name or branch location) they are quite unconcerned and even rude.

I am a single-parent supporting three of my offspring. Even if this only became available in my area at the first of 2001, they have overcharged me $73.20. If in fact the duration of time that the lower rate could have been enjoyed the greater my economic loss. And how many others are in the same predicament and have likewise been treated poorly to boot?
