Obama political ads on emails: I pay a monthly fee to AOL. I do not have free account which is subject to ads, which pay for the service. I have always been a paid AOL account customer. I feel that by putting his ads in all of my emails and on all of my incoming emails, it gives the perception that I support this candidate. This violates my privacy rights, I feel personally violated. Email should be private and excluded from political spam. The internet is already flooded with his ads. This is overkill. Please give us a break. I bet this probably breaks some kind of law.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I called several weeks ago and said I did not want to see the match.com popup for singles on the AOL login screen. I was told it would be taken off my screen and it was. It's back on and I'm now being told there is nothing I can do to have it removed. I am very disappointed about the way AOL is treating a loyal customer like me. I've been a member for many years.

They locked out my email account and demanded $199. I've been with AOL since 1999 and they have never done anything like this before. They have become crooks. They state one price and a difference price to someone else. I'm turning them over to the attorney general's office for unfair business practices on 3/28/12.

I will cancel my subscription to AOL after being a member since inception, if you don't get that match.com ad that's jammed in my face every time I log on. You may tell match.com that they are the last site I would ever go just because of their invasive advertising. It's there every time I log on, and if I see it one more time, I am canceling!

Changing from single computer to three on AOL Tech Guru: When I called to change my coverage, I was on the phone a good 30 minutes or more. I was told the original program was cancelled. I spent another 30 minutes being shuffled from technical to business departments and finally told the change was not available until 11 Mar 2012. On 14 Mar 2012, I called and went through a similar shuffling for over 30 minutes with no permanent resolution. I was told I may still have trouble getting on to tech guru service, even the next time I require it. What can customer service do for me as a long term customer of AOL? Thank you.
I called AOL as I kept getting pop-ups saying I needed to renew my anti-virus software when it was actually already installed. The AOL tech dialed in to make the changes. After this I could no longer print or remote to my PC at work. (I work from home a lot). Over the next few days I made numerous calls to AOL and spent hours either holding for someone or giving the same details over and over again. One woman hung up on me. Finally a tech dialed in and tried a few things and then said he needed to transfer me to the tech "gurus". They said they would fix it but it would cost $139. Why should I pay when it was AOL who broke it? I found an email address for someone at corporate HQ and sent an email. I got a phone call at work and a message left. I also got an email from this person with a phone number to call. The number was out of service. I emailed them back to ask for another number. I called that number 12 times yesterday. Each time I got a recording that there were too many calls holding and I should hang up.

I downloaded AOL new desktop software onto my desktop PC, then before AOL finished the installation, a run-time error occurred. I then proceeded to uninstall the AOL software and immediately after the uninstall was finished, I turned off my PC and my monitor was instantly fried. It made my monitor inoperable forever.
I believe the changes made by AOL to my MS XP operating system registry caused this to happen. Nothing was wrong with my monitor before this incident and action occurred.

I have been taken advantage by AOL. For several years I have been paying monthly for AOL PC Protection Plan at $14.95, Perfect Speed at $6.99, System Mechanics at $4.99 and Computercheck at 4.99 via my automatic bank debit. Yet on September 2, 2011, when I needed my computer needed repair, I got the run-around from department to department and multiple agents within the same department. I was literally transferred on the phone for three (3) hours trying to get help. I was finally advised that I would have to pay $129.99 to the AOL Computer Tech Guru service. I seemed to have been held hostage by AOL, so I paid the exorbitant fee even though, as according to my AOL Protection Plan revealed the following:
"Coverage: This Plan provides ($750.00) for the repair or replacement of your product to its standard operating condition if the product fails to perform its intended functions due to a breakdown."
About a month later, on October 2, 2011, I began to have recurring problems that were quite similar to the ones AOL tech guru had repaired a month earlier. When I contacted AOL I was told that I would have to pay again for the tech guru. I contacted multiple departments about my plan. I could not get one person to listen. They wanted to transfer me back to departments that I had already been to. Even when I contacted the service department regarding my plan the rep wanted to transfer me back to tech support. This was endless anguish!
Unfortunately, all of the other AOL plans products that I was subscribing to (System Mechanics at $4.99, Perfect Speed at 6.99 and Computercheckup at $4.99) have not performed well as expected because there should have been better protection and reliable service. I am disappointed because after the initial tech guru, I do not believe that my PC was cleaned and restored with protection. For that reason, my PC resumed with the same problems for which the AOL tech guru wanted to recharge me again.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I have been a satisfied customer of AOL for over a decade and this is the first time I have encountered a problem of this magnitude. I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem.
To expedite this matter you may contact me at the above email or address or by phone at home **.
To resolve the problem, I would appreciate a refund for the last seven (7) months at $14.95 for my PC Protection Plan (total $104.65) since, according to your billing rep ** your records do not go back beyond 7 months. Otherwise, I would request 12 months of full monthly refund of this plan but I have no way of confirming my exact start date of this subscription, although I think I have been under this plan since 2007. In addition, I request the following: a refund of four (4) months for System Mechanics at $4.99/month (total $19.96); refund of 12 months at $4.99 for Computercheckup (total $59.88); and refund of 12 months at $6.99 for Perfect Speed (total $83. 88). Therefore, I am requesting $268.17 in total.

I just wanted to delete my old screen name. Over 1 hour, with 4 different people and in two days, but nothing! I still have the same problem. My old screen name is still on my new account!

AOL will not let me reset my password after my account was compromised. They want a credit card number from when I first opened the account years ago that I don't even have anymore. Other email addresses such as Hotmail or Gmail, if you know your password, they will let you reset it or speak with them to reset your password. I've had this email for over 12 years and don't want to lose it. They were unwilling to help me at all.

I have been trying for almost 3 weeks now in getting help to retrieve some pictures from a saved email. I got a response telling me a Level 2 Tech would be in contact, but I have never been contacted. I contacted Support again asking what the status of my issue was, and was assured it was being looked into and I would be contacted and updated. This has been more than a week and still no contact from anyone, nor can I access these saved pictures I am needing.

Someone hacked into my account and is sending spam to everyone in my contact list. I have called AOL three different times to be sent to three different departments because each state cannot verify my account and cannot cancel my account. My security question has been changed and the address on my account has been changed. This is a free email account from AOL and you would think that I would be able to cancel the account. Obviously, someone has changed the information on the account so that I cannot cancel the account online myself. When I called to cancel it, I could not do that either because of them changing the security question and address.

AOL changed their classic homepage without our consent or approval, and refuses to give the users, who are clients, a voice in this matter. They have violated our trust and agreement and should offer us an option to use the classic homepage. What happened resulted to an emotional and psychological effect because I was not able to associate with an alien homepage. I had experienced loss of sleep, loss of appetite and loss of production.

In trying to call AOL support, I was told it would be a 30-minute hold time. I was on hold and when the agent picked up, they hung up on me.
I have now been on hold for an hour and still no one is available to pick up. I am trying to contact them about my account and it seems they don't want to service my account.
Extremely poor customer service.

How timely is your post today about AOL! Here is an email I sent to AOL corporate headquarters just yesterday:
AOL's refusal to provide assistance for problems to non-paying users is frustrating and annoying to the extreme! I've reached the point of using AOL for nothing except reading and saving email. Neither Yahoo nor Google, both free, have this restriction. Access to websites I use regularly is rarely possible. I have to switch to Firefox to achieve that. Similar problems exist with, for example, clicking for page 2 of a multi-page article. I know that AOL is not anxious to lose subscribers because of the need to keep numbers up for advertisers. But this client has just about had it and is ready to seek more friendly internet programs, unless AOL changes its policies with reference to non-paying, bring-your-own-server customers. [I am sending this from Firefox, by the way. I couldn't even reach the page in AOL.

I asked BT to take over my AOL. But I had to get a MAC Code from AOL. A very nasty man at AOL tried to stop me cancelling my service. He used heavy, threatening tactics. And he even started shouting at me down the phone. I stood my ground and just kept saying "give me the MAC code". This went on for 30 minutes. Until in the end he said, "You will live to regret this." And then, he slammed the phone down on me!

I have recently tried to change my AOL password several times. The "my account" site keeps indicating that I do not know the answer to the security question which was: "What is your birth place?", that I certainly know. This is totally unacceptable.

Did not even want to give "One Star". My email has dissapeared- new mail, etc. says folder empty! I have a free account, there is no way to get help from AOL without paying. I have tried online and telephone to recieve help. This is unacceptable and ridiculous.

I have the free AOL mail. When I forward an email, it either adds unwanted text or deletes pictures or graphics of the forwarded email. AOL will not talk to you if you do not subscribe to them and this issue is not covered in their "How To Fix" recordings. Technical support does not cover this problem.

Couldn't get into AOL account. Tried to reset password. Got told it was froze from so many tries. Tried again next day. Said same thing. Called a tech after being looped my phone help. Got India. Was told for a tech charge they could reset my password. Is this a scam?

Every time I log in and click on my email to read, I get this message that it's an error, and they are encountering a technical issue, and that's it. So, I turn off my computer, log in, and my email comes on. I click on it, and I might be able to read one or two of my emails, and then it does the same thing. When I try to read another one, it will do the same thing. It's really frustrating to turn it off and on, just to read one or two emails. Can you help? It's resulting in me wanting to throw this computer out of the window. I am mad that AOL is not giving more information as to what's causing this problem.

My connection was lousy. The person I spoke with couldn't answer my questions because he didn't understand what I was asking. I repeated to him what I needed and he became extremely impolite. I did nothing to him but try to explain again and again what I needed. I hung up and went to the online AOL "help" line. What a joke. The person took forever to respond and only with what appeared to be information that was off a boiler plate document. Problem not solved. It is enlightening to me what companies want to assist and what companies don't. This is a hard day for me, as my husband has died. Most are good people. I keep looking for a real contact number or address or email. No luck.

I subscribe to Daily Consumer Affairs. But lately when I click on one of the topics to read more, I get a message that says, "Error-can't find web site news 04. Web address could not be found." This has just happened as of yesterday (10/27/2010). Do you know how I can correct this? I will be checking my email to see if you have a solution. Thanks!

I have dealt with at least 14 people ranging from American speaking to those working in the Philippines over the past week. I have been hung up on numerous occasions and have spent over 8 hours of my precious time attempting to "fix" my internet service. They have had me install and reinstall AOL 9.0, which I later found out needed to be the 9.5 version. They have checked my modem, inputs, and everything else, except my blood type. Now my internet service does not work at all! The funny thing is that as soon as I submitted my credit card number to pay for the month, my services were inoperable.
The fellow I spoke with last week had me cancel my credit card and told me that it was a scam and they currently have federal investigators working on this situation. I am afraid with all the installing and uninstalling of every component they have totally ruined my computer. Do I have any recourse besides notifying the Better Business Bureau? I know there is nothing that I can do to change the outsourcing in our country.

I have been tracking down this spam situation and have been tortured by spyware and have contacted the website I believe has caused this. Why am I being accused for doing this for applying for **, an actor and model website? I have contacted them and sent them examples of the spyware from my various friends and colleagues. I do not appreciate being threatened for something that is clearly spyware that I have been subjected to especially since I have even tried to tell all my friends via, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo and AOL.
I am a professional self-employed model that has had this account for many years and my work and colleagues all have it and cannot start a new account nor should I be punished from the day this has happened. I have downloaded every spyware/malware website I can possibly download and it has been about 10 but they all charge so much money to get rid of the spyware. I already have AVG and Advance Care System for free and have been tortured by this situation. I suggest you contact **. They are the cause of this and I have contacted their customer service division.

My problem is that AOL is not allowing me to get into my Billing vis-a-vis Invoice.

Since June 2010, I have had difficulty logging on to AOL. I have a dial up connection. When I do get them and my email comes up, I can't close the email for 5 or l0 minutes. It always says not responding'. Anytime I want a web site, I either get those words or it freezes up. I have gotten a one-month credit but there are times I can't even log on. The technicians always try to help but it's always the same and it never turns out successful. I believe the phone lines provided to access AOL are too few and they won't do anything about it. I'm so sick of them. Thanks.

I received a call from a collection agency (LI Interstate- phone # 1-866-) telling me that I did not pay a bill for AOL, for the amount of $77.70. I told them that I had canceled my service of AOL in may 2010, and that I paid my final payment in June 2010. They would not listen to me only telling me that it must have been for another account since they saw two accounts under my name for AOL. I asked what 2 accounts they had listed because I only had 1 that I knew of. (They could only list one)They gave me the same account number I had. I told them I wanted to check my bank records before paying again. They told me since it was the end of the month 8/31/10, I should pay this "Owed amount" because it would go to a different credit collection agency and I should save my credit rating. I asked them what I needed to do to get my money back once I found the bank record, and she gave me a number to call AOL to see about a refund. I then went and found my bank records and saw that on June 18th I had mailed the payment of $77.70 to AOL for the same account # they had told me I owed on. It was put through the bank on June 23rd 2010. I called back to them and they insisted this was still an owed amount and I was responsible for payment.
I then called AOL, and after some argument about the "Payment Due", I told them how I had the cancelled check and he then changed his story and gave me an address to send this to, to see about a refund check. This process took me over one hour on the phone and longer to look up my bank records for payment check. I had at first got a disconnected number by the credit collection place for AOL. (That seems very convenient). I hope I get my refund check but I sincerely pray that other people do not just double pay without looking into things further. I am just wondering how often this happens? I wanted to quit dealing with them almost at the beginning of this exchange but I hung in there. I imagine other people do not have the patience. I hope to get a refund check from AOL. I am close to no money in my checking (being that it is close to payday). I hope that by me making a payment to them, which were already paid months ago, I haven't overdrawn. I felt much pressured by them and didn't feel as if I had much of a choice. Please check into AOL since I feel this probably happens to many people.

I received an offer to try an AOL anti-spyware program called something like Spy Guard on my Windows 98 computer. After running the program, my computer failed; all my files were destroyed and I could not use my computer. I just had my computer fixed and am now using Windows XP, but many of my important personal files could not be recovered.
I associate this to running a free trail of a recent AOL anti-spyware program. I spoke to AOL, and they told me it was safe to run that anti-spyware free offer in my Windows 98 system. But they were wrong. What can I do now to prove that the AOL anti-spyware free trail was the cause of my computer failure with my Windows 98 computer?

All I want to do is change my password on AIM. Somehow it has been hacked and is sending my friends all kinds of weird links even though I haven't really used it in a long time. I signed onto it for the first time in a few months the other day. There is nowhere on the app. to do it. Go to the website, there is nowhere there to do it. They tell me to say I forgot my password, they say they are sending an email to my "alternate" email, which is kind of a problem since it doesn't exist anymore. It then asks me to create an ASQ question and answer. This does not work either. It just keeps telling me over and over and over again error, error, error.
I call customer support and I am told by an automated voice that they don't offer live support for me. I need to use the website, which by the way, doesn't work! This is maddening and there is nothing I can do to resolve this issue. I don't understand what the problem is. I have no idea if the hack of my profile is spreading viruses to my friends, so the potential damage could be huge. This should take 10 seconds of my life and there is absolutely no reason for this.

AOL is awful! It is hard to log in and check email on a regular basis. Sometimes, I will try to log on only to get an error screen. I will try several times then a few days later when I do log on, I get spam from myself! AOL is such a scam! Can I hire a lawyer to file a class action lawsuit? I just want to be able to check my mail hassle-free. I am stationed overseas so this becomes extremely stressful and annoying. I would love for an attorney to contact me. I know several people that are also having trouble and then get the spam from their very own emails!

They do not supply consistent internet availability service and will not credit you back.

One day two weeks,I tried to open my aol icon on my computer and the computer shut down (which has been on my computer for over a year and I have had no issues opening it previously). I restarted my computer and opened the icon, once again my computer shut down. So I went under internet explorer and had no issues with getting on line. Previously I was told if there was an issue with opening aol to delete it out of my computer and reinstall it. So thats what I did but only this time my computer kept shutting down during the download. Aol did not even fully load and my computer went to a fatal error screen and froze.
At that point I took my computer into a computer tech. This computer is used for business. When the computer tech checked my computer he found that AOL had corrupted my files. The tech was able to remove aol off my computer fully and I have been told not to reinstall aol. Also I have lost some information thru all of this. I contacted aol for them to reimburse me for the fees and my time for there download problem. But I was told there was nothing they could. I was on the phone for three days to be told there was nothing they could do, to maybe there is insurance on your plan, to theres nothing we could do. During the conversations with AOL I was treated rude and several of the people to include supervisors would not even listen to my issue.
Weather I have an account or not is irrelavant. This was a download issue and I feel they are responsible for the damage to my computer.
Aol needs to have a dept that handles issues with non paying customers. So if someone else has issues with there download which the computer tech said is the case. Someone can help them.

website called AIM that sounded unusal. I can't even remember why or what, but went to the computer and searched for it. When we hit it, I saw that it was AOL. I knew enough about their history to know they had nothing valuable to offer and clicked away from their web page. The next time I turned on the computer and clicked Explorer, AOL pops up as my Home Page. I tried and tried to get rid of it.
One day I went over every cookie on my computer at least 3 or 4 times making sure that absolutely every cookie from AOL was deleted. It was like an infestation! It mattered not, their Page persisted. I tried everything I could think of and still it persisted. I wrote a nasty email to them about it and got back a reply from aolcomfeedback3@aol.com that said all I had to do was go to "Tools" and follow the "intuitively" easy instructions. That was a lie. I pulled every stop and whistle in tools, barring its site from appearing on my screen, barring its cookies, you name it, and over and over it was useless. That same inane special ed version of USA today still pops up. I traced it finally to the point of realizing that it was not on the harddrive. They hide a shortcut in the favorites part of the toolbar that redirects search to retrieve the AOL home page when Explorer is clicked on. In trying to get rid of it I stumbled on to the HTL Instructions...I could not delete them.
They said to replace my google home page with AOL. Oh yes, I have repeatedly instructed my computer to have only one home page it was to be Yahoo, no that route doesn't work either. Its my computer and I want the damn thing off there. Its worse than being hacked. Why would anyone think that turning their service into a virtual Uncle Reemuss(?)tar baby is a way to win customers and influence people. Its maddness. AOL is nothing more than a legal infection and you must do something about it.

This morning I tried to rtrieve my email from aol. There was a new hoop for me to jumpthrough. I had to fill out a form to re-up my free service. I completed it and at the bottom they had the security feature where you have to type the letters you see in a box and submit the form. I did--seven times and get the same message. If I need help, for a "small" fee I can have contact with a person. Othersie there si not place to write to find out what is happening. This happened literally overnight. Last night I could get mail, today I cannot. there was not warning. I have 947 messages on there, many of which are very important and I cannot access them to tranfer them or print them or do naything with them. I sent an e-mail to the head, but I do nto feel that will ehlp at all. I do not know which Federal agency oversees AOL and I am angry and frustrated. Is there anything I can do short of paying their ransom? Please help!!!

Someone used my email to log into facebook. Now i can't use my own personalized email to start my own account. I hope they haven't used my email for any thing else. Punitive damages of stress and anxiety. I know longer feel that my identity is safe or secure. Every body told me not to use aol becouse they were slow but I insisted that [they] had the best and fastest service.

American Online (AOL) will not allow a user to delete their master screen name. AOL's refusal to delete an account allows them to mislead any advertiser or business partner. If AOL never deletes screen names (email addresses), then they could essentially command advertising dollars based on millions of non-users. I no longer use AOL but they use my old screen name.

I waited on support chat for over an hour and never did get a response to my question. This is exactly why I will never recommend or support the use of AOL to any of my customers. In my 35 years in the computer business, I have never seen a bigger or stranger acceptance of a product by individuals who use this piece of bug-ridden, advertisement-laden, and unnecessary sorry excuse for software. Anyone who would pay good money, especially during this economic crisis, for this outdated excuse for software should be denied the privilege of using a computer. It is no wonder you are losing market share. So much for your chat!

I cannot get aol to work with McAfee. Every time I try log on, AOL hangs. No other program on my system does this and I cannot find any help to solve this. It is vital to me to have access to AOL since some of my more urgent issues are through them. There is no damage, just a lack of support on this one issue.

I received an email from the Office of the President of the United States which was totally unsolicited. I never authorized AOL to release my email to anyone, including the president of the U.S.

We switched from a paid account (that we had for many years) to a free account, but now, we can't access our email! We have been getting messages for over a week on all the email addresses that said we can't access due to "temporary maintenance" which was undefined. We have sent emails to no avail, and you can't reach a live person when you call their customer service number. This seems like advertising fraud to me. How can "temporary maintenance" go on for over a week?

Someone has stolen by aol screen name and is sending out inappropriate email to people. I cannot get in touch with anyone from AOL to find out how to stop this

I have been faithful to AOL for more than twenty years. but now I am seriously annoyed by one thing: The screen I write messages on offers me less than three perpendicular inches to write on! I don't recall having been annoyed by the cramped space until now, but I AM annoyed. However: I have a new computer, and it may have caused the problem; If so, tell me what to do to get more up-and-down space.

The worst customer service and internet provider you can choose. If you don't have the energy to read every complaing about AOL - try this: try to get a contact phone number for them! Then imagine you need to call them regularly because you don't get statments. When you finally gain access to view them there are irregularities...
I opted for their most expensive plan at 14.99 which would give me the flexibility to cancel within 12 months as I was already aware of a very bad reputation. Within the period of 10 months I had hidden charge, charges for customer service which I had to call on a monthly basis to gain access to my online account for some unexplained reason they kept changing my password. Intermittant internet service which they would always blame the BT for initially before responding. Ultimately I took every precaution not to fall for any other hidden snares and called them 30 days before I wanted to terminate my account. I was told to call back in 30 days as it takes affect the next day. After I cancelled BT, I got a letter from AOL informing me that my services with them are now terminated as well. Following month I get a bil from AOL. On contacting them they claim the account is still active and that I needed to call them telephonically to cancel and the letter was only 1 part of the service (even though they still charged me for it).Who is running AOL? Shame

I am a member of AOL for almost 12 years with 5 email address - 3 for business and 2 for personal use. I have a estate liquidation business in Las Vegas, NV and have used estatesalenews@aol.com for most of those 12 years - sending out 2-4 emails a month with newsletter with annoucements of where the estate sale will be and what is going up for sale. (www.CallReneeEstateLiquidation.com) A few years ago AOL began enforcing a limit of 100 emails but if you called and got on their mass email list you would be cleared to send out newsletters and such.
Several times in the past-I have sent out my email and gone on line thereafter and not been able to sign on to my account. I would call AOL - remind them I have permission to send them and they would update their data. On April 21st I sent out a email.
On April 22nd, I could not sign on to my accounts. I called AOL and was told that I was blocked from all my accounts and that there was no one who I could speak to to clear up this matter. I was instructed to write a letter to the Communities Action Dept of AOL (CHAT). I went to a supervisor and was told the same thing. There were no telephone numbers and the only contact was by writing a letter. Please note that I have paid for the month. I was not just shut out of the email that they feel was in violation but all of my emails. I can not sign on to get the email addresses of my businesses to continue my business. I feel such exclusion is absolutely criminial. When I can't pay my upcoming bills because I was unable to communicate with my clients - and my clients are going to think I didn't pay my bill.
There could have been a way that I could gain access to an account that has been mine for 12 years and that I have paid for to get the information that I need to continue to do business-let along contact friends to let them know. I've never known a company that you could NOT talk to someone about a problem. There is NO ACCESS to the CHAT dept that controls who gets removed. In other words I paid for a product - and not only can't use it but can't talk to anyone about getting it to work again.

Why has my McAfee security service expired when it is supposed to be included in my AOL service?
None yet that I know of. However I assume I am exposed to network virus dangers.

AOL blocked today 17.04.2009 suddenly, without any prior notice, my screenname. I tried many times with correct password but everytime getting a reply that password is not correct. I telephoned AOL & also sent number of Emails but without any response.
I have hundreds of business & private Emails stored at AOL which are to be attended urgently. I normally get 200 business Emails at average. I will loose business of ca. Euro 60.000 of supply contract. I hasve a doubt that AOL spy my mail with following software.

AOL is consistently slow and often freezes. When trying to exit the program, it restarts unbidden, even when the signoff button is pushed. When trying to exit, I often get a program is not responding message for no apparent reason.

Without any warning whatsoever, in the last few months, AOL has closed the access of customers to thier own information such as was stored in the FTP storage, refusing to allow then to retrieve it, causing the loss of intellectual protperty stored there, and have done the same now with profiles, which included a number of business that ran from thier site, destroying the information as well distrupting business, for who knows how long.
Much the same, they have forced thier customers, with no warning, into a totally unrelated site, Bebo. This is a social networking site, like Facebook, which in fact, many people have previously and deliberately avoided joining. Not only was this done with no warning, but was inacted on even very young children, and removed any safeguards that parents and guardians had put into place with thier children and thier information. This site, which lacks ANY sort of reasonable help section, actually makes available such information as full name, addresses, work locations, educational information, and much more. They recklessly exposed many, many children and people to infasion of privacy, predation, and worse.

I connected and installed with AOL 9.0 VR essential internet service for dial-up and high speed users at (02/13/09). When I go on online, it is too slow. Please do me favour to be faster and faster in my online, thank you.

AOL Turned off Xdrive intenet data storage on 1/9/09 and will not let me access my personal data that I payed them to store. Never received any notification of service termination, only found out when tried to upload holiday photo's. Searched internet and found only emails were sent to AOL addresses and not to yahoo.
Lost all irreplaceable family photo's, letter, and impotant data.

The service is horrible. They pressured me day after day 2 years ago about getting Broadband, I did and have been cut off, service freezes up, and cannot relate to person from AOL as most do not speak English. AOL has caused many problems on my computer. I have talked with many people who have said they have had similar problems with their computers and to get totally rid of them they have had to dump their main frames and start over.
The damage is nothing heavy. It's just sometimes when I am working on things, the freezing up causes me to lose things and my computer runs on the slow mode even though I have a high speed provider....

My AOL account has been terminated by AOL for a terms of service violation. I have NO idea what that violation is. I manage a band and have been sending bulk e-mails of our band schedule weekly for as long as I've had this account. I did receive 2 e-mails from TOSE from AOL saying about some type of violation, but once again I have NO idea what this means. My account is in good standing financially. I am doing the same type of e-mailing I have done since I became a member of AOL. People sign up at our shows to be part of our e-mail and mailing list. When you sign up (which is voluntary) you are told you will receive weekly updates. I want to make you aware that people are able to contact me by e-mail asking to be removed from the e-mail list, and they are removed immediately. I am not soliciting anything from anyone. I do not feel that I have done anything wrong. This is a terrible inconvenience.
I have sent a registered letter to a Community Action Team in Dulles, Va. There is NO number for this Community Action Team and NO way to get in touch with them. I have requested to have my account re-instated but I have NOT heard anything. I have received NO explanation at all as to what has happened here. By closing this account they have all my business contacts in my address book. They also have my saved e-mails from business associates. They have affected my business!!!!! If nothing else I need my contacts in my address book and the e-mails.

I am serving in the USArmy, stationed in Germany.Living on then German Economy, hooked up to AOL (ALICE)both telephone services and internet. The German AOL Company, male employee would not help or offer to help me with my phone difficulties. Been reported 4 times in 6 months and they have been rude, hung up on me and tell me there is nothing they can do....I need to keep in touch with my family in America, since my mother is ill and I have recently returned from Iraq...What is going on!!! I need my telephone service..do I report this to my lawyer to get results or do I quit AOL and use another service. Your response is waiting since there are other soldiers in the same situation.

Missing the fact my mother was hospitalized in critical condition and unable to respond to family issues

everytime i get on aol games and play bingo it shows that the whole board is full even before the game starts. and it boots me off .
cant play games

I was terminated from AOL a couple of weeks ago. That is how long it has been trying to find out why. The address I was given to write to is unknown according to Map Quest. I have written three letters to AOL with no response. I also gave them my phone number. I have heard absolutely nothing to any of my letters or phone calls. My son wrote them a letter also.
My son has his business cards connected to AOL. I had many addresses and business adresses on AOL.They have not attempted to contact me at all. I am beside myself. We had AOL for years and out of the blue we are terminated. I want to know why. There is no way of retrieving any information.

I have been with AOL for over 20 years and over that time developed a 50 MB website that was on web space provided by them. On the 30 September they emailed me saying that they were closing their Hometown department down on the 31 October. I was on holiday for part of October. However I made enquiries with them and they sent and email to me which included the following statement: please be informed that this will not effect your web page.
Ont the 31st of October they deleted/destroyed my whole web site.
I now have to reproduce my very large web site, but after over 20 years I am not sure I still have the knowledge to do it. It was prduced with HTML 2 which is well out of date. AOL are disgusting.

i donot want any thing to do with ao.l i do not like the adds on the e-mails from other people. i do not like them sending things i did not ask for. when i get a e mail from someone with aol, all of a sudden i get a bunch of other stuff, that i did not ask for. I DON'T LIKE AOL!

tried to log on to my email address but forgot password, i had it sent to my oyher email adress and then it said im sorry you must creats another email account. i would appriciate someone fixing it like yesterday, or i will be in contact with an investor, yahoo is 10 times better than you anyway.

Keeps exposing my children to the most scariest faces in my email page. Mostly from a Universal Studio horror night ad.
psychological, my children can's sleep at night since they saw it. Who can I call to sue them?

It takes ten minutes to one hour to go on line with AOl during day and early evening. At 3:00 am in the morning I go on line almost immediately. AOL is not doing its job
I own 50 stocks and mutual funds. I cannot buy nor sell because I cannot get on line with AOL during hours market is open. I lose opportunities

I am very annoyed, and am thinking about boycotting AOL advertisers. I am annoyed because: I logged into AOL and typed in McCain and Palin as a search item, the listing comes up with many many unofficial websites for McCain & Palin, it is a travesty ! Type in Obama and you see his official website everywhere. Deceptive. And don't tell me that it is because there are more searches on Obama than McCain & Palin...its fixed, plain and simple, AOL may not understand why McCain & Palin are doing better than expected...but I do, more and more....for me it is due to stupid issues like this that lean me more and more towards McCain.

They changed the format for personal portfolios, the new one is horrible and hard to navigate. And it is defnitely hard to print on one page like before

i accidently deleted all of my email and i looked in my recently deleted folder and none of the emials were there. lots of information deleted

I am a long time AOL user for over 15 years. I subscribe to Comcast for its highspeed but still use the AOL email which I am accustomed to. Several years ago I paid both AOL and Comcast but AOL made their email service free. Last week I sent an email out to my partners (150) which I have been doing for ten years. Some did not receive the emails as they were returned Mailer Daemon. I called AOL Technical Department who assured me it was Comcast, Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, Juno, etc.
Upon calling them each and everyone said it was AOL who blocked sending them having blacklisted me as a Spammer. When I called AOL back I reached someone in the billing department who had the IQ of a flea. She said unless I paid her $11.99 she could not put me back through to technical even though she saw the note that I was to call them back if the problem was not resolved which it isn't.
I asked her to put her supervisor on the phone and she refused to do so. She then poured oil on the fire when she said what do you want for free. That was it as I exploded. Is it any wonder that AOL is going out of business. They want us to use their Email service that they made free but treat their loyal customers as if we were garbage. I finally have had enough.
Blacklisted by my own email provider as a spammer when I have never sent a piece of spam in my life. My business partners are unable to correspond with me via email. Thank AOL.

Typical big business. Raise pricers, screw up services. aol has frozen three times in 20 minutes

On about July 8, 2008 I telephoned AOL purpose of subscribing to AOL's Internet at $11.99. After brief discussion, the agent of AOL transferred my call to an office he called free technical support office and the call was transferred. He (Technical support agent of AOL) requested for information on my personal computer - PC and after reviewing the information thereon, he told me that AOL can not connect me and he recommended some support equipment I must buy to enable me connect.
I bought reuter from Wal Mart and on July 10, 2008 I called AOL and another staff took over the discussion. He advised me that the reuter I bought can not work with AOL Internet system. This was the end and AOL did not provide any service to me. Shocking to me is that AOL has rushed to my bank account to remove $11.99.
Conclusion: I want this money be credited to my account with costs of $150.00 to stop further litigation.

We seek to reply to an e-mail on our AOL account. In the reply, the original message appears, then our reply message. But it is received by addressee as a 90+ document, full of blank space. Ayone who prints our "reply" message gets 90+ blank pages as well. cost of printer cartridge; pages; time

im tired of their ads being splashed all over my computer and blocking the sites i wish to use. i am charged for aol and i have no interest in their ads for lending tree or aol search.
ive lost friens i wished to speak to because i could not get those ads off in time

AOL'S 9.1 is messed up and they will not fix it
My PC's all 3 E-Machine Window Vista off brand

every time i sign on i get 2 very large ads on my screen. i pay for aol not ads. also you keep changing things as in paypal, profiles............leave things alone. im very annoyed

Why am I unable to find a phone number to inform AOL that I am changing my pc or is that not going to make any difference

spent nearly an Hr at 5p a min trying to repair the fault with there grade 1 then grade 2 technical team ,being cut off half way through ..
BUT one of the main things is i was told by a member of there staff that they would take out the full amount remaing as it being a 18 Mth contract from my card company without my concent

TOLD them i would return the faulty item and pay the month i are in + one more in advance +the price of the return of the faulty item i'e routeri have lost count it has stopped on me within the last 3 days + having to manually restarting the computer
it is fine while i are not using AOL sent a letter to the head of customer care and the amount of emails i have sent without any reply
the next time it stops on me i shall be stopping them from my card company i are unable to have the computer repaired due to them so i shall totally remove them out of my system they tried to put some blame on BT phone line contacted BT and had it checked ok
i are not going to pay for a faulty item ,supposed to be sending me anouther one that i really do not want as i do not trust them ..

After seeking help with my connection problem, several AOL tech support consultants reached premature conclusions that I had a hardware problem, and rushed to get off the phone. After days and countless hours, I was able to fix the SOFTWARE problem myself. Obviously, they could have helped me--but they didn't!
None. I just want the kind of help I deserve from a service I pay for.

Their aol anywhere webmail service [is bad] to be quite honest, with frequent "not responding" errot messages and VERY long (1 + minute) dealys in opening emails. Also, they do not seem to have any complaint process in place for those of us that wised up and switched to the free aol after getting tired of being gouged for [bad] service! No economic damage - unless you want to count what my time is worth! These guys wer once the top dog in my book, I have completely lost confidence in them and soon may be switching entirely to the free (always has been) and better YAHOO Mail service.

I keep getting cut off when I'm downloading info or music that takes a while. I was downloading a 48 page document and cut off from the last 14 pages. Plus several times when I'm downloading music which I pay for I get cut off and told I have been cut off because it's idle time.
I pay 21.95 per month and I don't feel it is fair.
I'm disabled and I need to download forms etc. for tax purposes and I'm not being allowed to get them in a timely manor. I am feeling pretty stressed now.

For past few months I have experienced problems whilst using the internet. Mainly AOL freezing on me and losing documents when I'm halfway through them. I phoned AOL about the problem in past and Called to with draw my contract as the company has NOT provided the service advertised. Was told I won't experience anymore problems, offered a months free service after being moved from pillow to post and spoke to NO less than 3 different people. Last one I spoke to, I asked for my MAC code(WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD BE EMAILED TO ME IN A FEW DAYS). Which to date I am still awaiting. Also I was informed that I would have to pay the reminder of my contract to leave them which is highly unaceppable as the problem lies their end. He gave me his email address to contact him if I had any more issues and surprise, surprise when I tried it. There is NO such email address. Im far from happy with this situation and eager to leave AOL and Join a better internet supplier.
Lost number of documents I was working on and had to redo them again from start.

AOL Connectivity Services forces me to download an update which prevents my PC from booting up. I have WINDOWS ME.
I had to do a GO BACK and wipe it out to get my PC running again. There is no way to defeat the software update. I just shove the pop up down till it is off the screen in order to continue using my PC. I do not think the update was beta tested with Windows ME machines.
I use Road Runner and want to continue using my 10 year old AOL address. I have planed it in many genealogy web sites and will loose all of those sources that might feed me info in the future if I change my address.

I have a new format for AOL email on my computer that has totally obliterated the info on my calendar and configured my address book in a form that has eliminated my groups and made such a mess that it's barely usable. I can't even figure out how to use this address book! And there is no one to whom I can even ask for help or complain to @ AOL.
I can't communicate via email using my address book which I have spent hours compiling.

The New AOL is up and walking - not up and running, mind you. In fact, it's walking quite slowly with a noticeable limp. As I'm sure users will find, in true AOL fashion, this new version is not only slower than previous - it's buggy. One such bug was found when clicking on BACK TO MAIL in an attempt to return from SETTINGS. Nothing after several attempts. And their new loading icons seem to sit on your desktop forever. Enough already. I must say, AOL has been pretty consistent at providing the worst the Web has to offer.

They have put new e-mail format on the computer without me signing up for it. Consequently, I can not write an e-mail or delete an e-mail without my computer freezing up. I went onto my hotmail account on the same computer and had no problems. It is definately AOL's new e-mail format.
I live far away from family and friends. E-mail is how I communicate with them as I am disabled. If e-mail is not working, commuication becomes difficult.

Using AOL on iMac G5, tried to schedule an e-mailusing Auto-AOL. At that point AOL simply crashed and quit. From that point on, AOL would not run on my computer, even after many attemtps to uninstall AOL and re-install from scratch. Could not get any technical help from AOL to fix problem due to current policy of No help available. There is no technical guidance that I have seen for this scenario, where AOL starts loading or starts running, but simply quits every time that it encounters the AUto-AOL module in its setup.
The only way to use AOL on my computer now is to access it through the web.

I was having problems signing onto aol, and tech support couldn't find the reason, so eventually i got a tech support in India and he advised me to run a scan . I did this and i could not sign back on to my computer. They told me to contact geek squad and i did it cost me 250 dollars to fix. Aol has ignored me and i file a complaint w/att gen . I was told they do not deal w/Aol and that they (aol) has their own complaint dept. Aol will not reimburse me they told me they will give me a credit... I cancelled my service. No one from aol will help me. I regret ever having Aol
I spent money that i did not have in order to fix a computer that my family and I need for school purposes

I was using AOL 9.0. I had problems with it quite a bit. I have been an AOL user for a decade. But, when I became an activist on the net on a topic called CODEX, all hell broke loose. My virus software (by aol) would turn off *by itself* and exposed me to a living hell. Then, pop up blocker turned off *by itself* and caused me more hell. Live Help never was able to answer the problem.
Whenever I sent out email, it would have text in the subject line that I did not write.
I can't prove they were *on me*, but the timing was stunning. STUNNING.

AOL has about twenty or so questions for novice and no real support for their inadiquate software.

Lost dial-up connection (DSL not available where I live) to AOL when the sign-on screen showed only Broadband and my home connection was mysteriously gone. HOURS spent talking to tech help, uninstalled, reinstalled "as current member", ETC. ETC. Still could not connect. Told the modem was bad. Installed a new modem, still a dial-up connection couldn't be found. After a month of this problem I reinstalled AOL and got on without problem as A NEW MEMBER! Nothing was wrong with the modem, AOL was messing with the connection. Now I cannot get access to my former screen names to download messages or find my former address book.

Someone figured out my 12 year olds password to aol, went on her screenname, e-mail and im' her friends and said terrible things and started lots of trouble. After two hours of trying to get some immediate help it was almost impossible to get the help i needed. First of all everyone i spoke with was from another country and there was an awful language barrier between the two of us, i was desperate to get this matter under control as soon as possible, due to the fact the person was signed on at the time of me trying to get live help and on hold with aol also, we seen this person on aim sending nasty things to my daughters friends..After two hours and ten minutes of this, A man named Jacob managed to knock her of line so we could change our aol passwords quickly and our aim password quickly before she signed on again before us , due to the fact every time my daughter tried to sign on, aol would say your screename is already signed on at a different location..
So after all that I was told this person who was doing this to my daughter used a dial up network which we have broadband (cable hook-up), and told us the time they were on that dial up network...I asked if a e-mail could me sent to the acct. holder of that computer so that the parents of this child would know and do something about this..They said they couldn't and i found that ridiculous, We need to get to the bottom of this, this is a real violation of someones privacy, could someone look into this and let me know what they come up with on this matter!I really feel the parents of this little hacker needs to be notified so that in the future this problem does not become worse!!!!Please Help
Mrs J.****

hello to whom it may concern
back in august 2003 aol called me up and wanted to know if i would like to try aol broadband for 30 days so i said ok well this is where my problems started i have an ibm laptop thinkpad 390x with windows 98se before i got the broadband i nevered had a problem with my laptop untill i installed there broadband i only had the broadband for a week and it wouldnt work anymore so then i called aol broadband up and they sent me a new one well now my computer doesnt work right after i installed the second broadband and i called aol tech support up and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the broadband it must be my computer and i said it was funny i can do whatever i wanted before i got the broadband and now i cant do a thing my ibm laptop computer doenst work right and it freezes up on me i told the aol tech that i wanted my computer to be fixed and they told me that is not going to be happening in this life time i sm glad i do have a secound pc but that is not a laptop the laptop i use to travel with or if my family is on the other computer
i like to know what can i do cause aol said the broadband is software and it is not a hardware the only thing i want is my computer running right is that asking for much they then told me to contact the laptop manufactor or call microsoft i cant do either cause the laptop is out of warranty and i cant see why i have to pay ibm or microsoft to find out that the broadband did something to my computer

at Carter:
I was considering AOL Broadband, however due to the rude and terrible service I am thinking of another Internet service not only for myself, but for the company as well. I had not one, but at least two online chats for help and was talked to terribly. I had asked for the session to be checked out and never have heard anything.
I also couldn't get anywhere on the phone and was talked to like a dog. I will not and don't have to as a customer, put up with that kind of treatment. I also was very upset to find when I needed Tech support that my call was going over to another country and they couldn't even hardly speak English to help. Not only with everything that is going on in the world today, that is not only unsafe for a persons account and safety it is just totally unethical to have this going on when too many USA citizens need jobs and war(s) going on for me or any USA person and companies to be supporting AOL if this is what is all going on. I have planned to contact as many persons as possible to have this information fully investigated to where people that have service will know what is going on, so they may choose if this is what they also want to support!
~Very Upset Customer~

I set up a "Kid's Only" screen name for my son (now 7 yrs old), when I joined AOL (Feb 2002). I set the parental controls setting for this screen name as "Kid's Only". We have only given this address to his grandparents (3 people). For 8 months we had no problems, however, starting in Sept 2002,he started receiving e-mails with innapropriate content for the settings we established. Incoming e-mails included viagra ads, adult web-cam sites, "How to give a woman an ******, quick loans offers, mortgaage offers, life insurance offers, and car loan offers. I, as a parent, reported each of these innappropriate e-mails to AOL but received no response from them.
Tonight (Jan 17, 2003) I finally made contact with an AOL rep, name Rhia, and was told that I need to "allow" addresses that I want to receive e-mails from and "block" e-mails from those that I don't. What good are AOL's "Parental Controls" if you have to block or allow individual senders, you have to do that on any screen name anyway. I don't believe that AOL's parental controls work at all.
