Progressive Settles Rate Quote Complaint

Progressive has an appealing ad campaign and presents itself as a hip, cool and -- for lack of a better term -- progressive insurance company. Maybe it is but the consumers whose comments appear in this section would beg to differ.

A few of the more recent complaints ...

Elmer of Thousand Oaks CA (02/11/09)
I got hit by another driver, and progressive customer service told me that i had to fight it my self at small claims court.

I wasted my money for a whole year and on top of that they charge early cancelation fees. tha is ridiculious.

Tim of Grand Forks, ND February 9, 2009

Tim of Grand Forks ND (02/09/09)
I had a boat in Pensacola Fla. catch fire while I was doing some Maintenance. They have treated me like a criminal since the very beginning. They have interviewed me, my relatives, my boat broker, and anyone else they can find. They asked for my bank statements, my cell phone records, all motel receipts for my trip to Fla. They went into this believing I am a criminal. I will never do business with them again and will tell everyone I know. I am still under investigation by them. I don't know what will happen. I've even started to feel like I did something wrong.

Jeffrey of Fremont CA (02/06/09)
In November of 2008 my Car was torched by some arsonist. I filed a claim with Progressive insurance, for my 2002 CL-600 Mercedes. They have now been giving me the run around for 80 days today. First they come and pick my car up and say they need to do a fluid test on my car. (what does that have to do with a fire?) Then they ask me for all kinds of paperwork on the car. which I comply with a turnaround of the same day. Then they ask me to participate in a taped interview with one of there investigators, which I complied with. This all could of been done within a month but it took them 68 days to complete.

Now they have come to the 80 day deadline and have asked me to go to a examination under Oath, yet another stall tactic. Now I have to get an attorney to represent me in the examination. So not only do I have had no Car for 80 days(Cant afford one, because the rental cars I have had to rent, that they wont cover- no rental car coverage) but now I will have to shell out like 1000 dollars for an attorney. This has to be one of the worst insurance companies I have ever seen.

I have no Car or cant afford to replace with something suitable. I have to have people drive me to work. Has cost me like 3000 dollars in rental cars, which I can't afford anymore. I have to get a attorney to represent me because the insurance company I pay 268 a month for full coverage wont settle my claim within a reasonable amount of time.

Jerrold of Union City, CA January 29, 2009

Jerrold of Union City CA (01/29/09)
I was stuck by a motorist on 11/28/08 and had damage to the front of my 2007 Subaru Outback. Progressive told me that the car would be repaired and be back in my hands by 12/28/08. It is now a month since then and it seems no one can fix the car and progressive keeps giving me the run around. Meanwhile I am paying insurance and car payments for a car that is not operational. I have made a complaint with the insurance comission and all they did was send me written confirmation that they received the complaint.

I have no reliable transportation which is affecting my livelyhood

Michael of Spring, TX January 20, 2009

Michael of Spring TX (01/20/09)
On March 07th a drunk driver backed his car into my daughters car at a high rate of speed. My daughter called the police and had a police report written. The drunk drivers insurance was Progressive Insuance and they refused to pay because they claim it happened in a private parking lot. The police report clearly states that the drunk driver had backed out into a major street and hit my daughters car. Progressive would not take the police report into consideration. I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TO USE PROGRESSIVE FOR YOUR INSURANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The damages to my daugher was just under 4,000
