Progressive Settles Rate Quote Complaint

Progressive has an appealing ad campaign and presents itself as a hip, cool and -- for lack of a better term -- progressive insurance company. Maybe it is but the consumers whose comments appear in this section would beg to differ.

A few of the more recent complaints ...

Steve of Auburn NY (12/11/08)
Progressive Insurance is the worst insurance company money can buy. They are absolutely horrible to work with, put you through all kinds of trouble even though you are injured. Just terrible. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy.  My girlfriend was in a horrible accident, she broke a rib, tore her rotator cuff, messed up her jaw from hitting her head on the steering wheel, messed up her neck and back and the insurance company puts up a fight anytime she needs to go to a doctor. They continuously refuse to pay her medical bills and because it was a one car crash, no lawyers seem willing to help! Just a terrible situation for a 23 year old girl to have to go through. Don't ever use Progressive Insurance.

Eric of Reno NV (12/03/08)
This started while we lived in CA. and we now live in NV. In a nut shell every time we would make a change to our policy with Progressive they would change our policy account number. We (my partner was the primary name on the account) had our insurance for many years but got fed up with having a different account number assigned when we made a change on our policy. Including messing up our auto debit we would have to redo every time they would change our account number. I had NEVER heard of an insurance Co. changing account numbers EVERY time you made an addition or removed an auto on your policy! Has anyone else had this happen?

When we moved to NV. we changed to Geico letting our Progressive account lapse and thought it would be closed when we didn't make our payment. But not the case. Now we had overlapping coverage for 1 month meaning we started our Geico coverage before our Progressive account ended. NOW Progressive is saying we owe them for almost 2 months AFTER we had ended our policy with them. We would like legal counsel to help us to fight an unfair charge of like 600.00 that Progressive is trying to charge us. We can prove that our NEW policy was in effect before our Progressive policy ended.

Unknown to us Progressive has reported us to the Credit agencies which is now preventing us from buying a house. We need to have this unfair charge removed from the credit report. We feel like suing Progressive for the harm they have caused us by the deceitful billing practice!

Shawn of Henderson, NV December 3, 2008

Shawn of Henderson NV (12/03/08)
I had dropped off my Chevy Tahoe for repairs at the Progressive Service Center on 11/18/08. I had picked-up my vehicle from the same Progressive center on Monday 12/1/08, around 4pm. I then drove home immediately and did not drive the rest of the night. I work from home and did not drive my truck the following day (Tuesday 12/2) until 9pm that night. At that time, I noticed that my Garmin GPS unit was missing from my center storage console.

I called the Progressive Service Center immediately the following morning on Wednesday, 12/3 at around 830a and spoke with Lee Anne, who informed me she was a manager there. I explained the situtation and that it appears as if my GPS unit was stolen out of my vehcile during the time that they had possession of my vehicle. Lee Anne then asked me if I reported the unit missing before leaving their facitily on pick-up on Monday, 12/1? This was an obvious rhetorical question, since I was calling to report the unit stolen.

Right off the bat, it appeared to me as if I was going to get the runaround, and that seemed to be a common thing they had to deal with. When I told Lee Anne that I expected to see at least some effort by Progressive to resolve this matter - at the very least I should be able to file some type of loss report - she became very rude and began talking over me. When I asked to speak with her manager, she told me she would transfer me, but I was wasting my time. Nice. I then left a message for the Branch Manager, Steve, and have yet to receive a return phone call from him.

I also called Progressive Corporate office to file complaints on both the THEFT of my GPS units, as well as the extremely rude treatment I received by Lee Anne, and have yet to recieve a call back from anyone there, as well. I am also on my way down to the local LV Metro Police Station to file a police report for theft. Now, I understand it would be next to impossible to prove who stole my GPS unit. However, the lack of effort and rude, defensive attitude I encountered from Lee Anne has left me with the impression that there might be some culpability on this issue.

Dropped Policy

Tyler of Appleton, WI November 26, 2008

Tyler of Appleton WI (11/26/08)
Isn't Peace of Mind, what I paid for? I have chosen to go paperless with progressive, the only documents that I receive in the mail are annual reports and policy changes/renewals.

On 9/5/08 I paid renewed my policy and paid 6 months in advance with Drive, a division of Progressive Insurance.

On 9/30/08 they charged my bank account for 54.00 and never sent me a notice in the mail. It wasn't until today 11/26/08, I went onto the website to view my current policy that I noticed 4 documents that I never reviewed.

The first being from the Underwriter 9/7/08, a notice that they had done a credit check and that I no longer qualify for there lowest rate. My credit score happens to be 748 and that justifies a increase of 54 for the 6 months.

Another document (ETF) Authorization form 9/7/08, requires a signature for the Insurance Company to make automatic withdrawals from my bank account, this was never viewed and has yet to be signed by me, they withdrew from my bank account anyway on 9/30/08. And another document 9/30/08 showing my rates affective change.

I will be calling Progressive today asking to be reimbursed for what they illegally took out of my bank account, and this Friday I will be shopping for insurance, even if I have to pay more.
