Nationwide Cancels 39,000 More Homeowner Policies

Tonii of Lawrenceville GA (01/27/09)
I bought/leased a brand new 2006 Lexus IS 250 Manual Transmission February 2006. May 2006 i got t-boned on the driver side. I took my car to a Lexus body shop it took 90 days and 19,000 to fix my car. Nationwide chose to repair vs. replace my car. It had frame damage and more. the bodyshop was good and putting it back together however, it had been seriously damaged. Now I'm stuck with the depreciation due to an accident so when I turn the car in, I'm upside down. Nationwide refused to total my car out saying it wasn't more than 85% of the value. Duhhhh, my car was only 3 months old when it got hit and the frame was warped.

I'm faced with paying more than 5000 in upside down value.

I had a nationwide policy, homeowners/auto since 1997. In 2006 I relocated, but my children was still living in my house and I still owned the house. I notified my agent's staff (Susan) who told me that I needed to transfer my auto policy. I requested a quote. Within 2 weeks I received a quoute for 604 per month for the same two cars I used to pay 300 per month for so I nicely declined the transfer. this was December 2006. I got new coverage for my car immediately 1/07 for 143 per month and cancelled nationwide policy.

By March 2007, I received a termination notice for my homeowner's policy and a refund of 300 for the uncovered period through to August 2007. Their excuse was that the property was no longer owner occupied so they couldnt cover my property anymore. I used that very check to get new coverage which I maintained throughout till now Soon after that NYS DMV sent me a letter saying that my license was suspended becasue Nationwide reported me as having lapsed coverage. By this time I didnt even have a NYS license anymore but was threatened by a DMV clerk that it could affect my new license.

I spent months trying to resolve this issue. I filed a complaint with NYS Insurance Commissioner who ruled that they illegally terminated my policy and ordered its reinstatement retroactive to the terminated period to which they agreed. They sent me a bill for almost 600 as reinstatement to cover the coverage period they refunded. I refused since I hadnt anything else saying the terms of the policy. eventually my husband spoke to them as he received a bill and letter saying the new policy was to be terminated 8/2008 if they didnt recieve payment. He called the agent who informed him that the amount was to cover the reinstatement period 3/08 to 03/09 so he paid the amount.

Soon after recieving the payment they sent another bill for more than 1600 asking for immediate payment. Then October 28,2008 I recieve another letter telling me that my policy was again terminated effective 10/27/2008 for the same reason. considering that I already had existing coverage I kept ignoring their quest for more money. during all this I never signed anything for reinstatemnet, nor have recieved new policy.

November 2008 There was nother letter informing me taht my policy was to be terminated 12/04/08 unless I pay 2,197 By December 8, 2008 I received another letter demanding 2197 by 12/23/08. Now I am being hounded by collectors and being threatened with litigation unless I pay 2197 for services I never received.

Stress, collection harrasment, losing my NY driving privileges, 600 for payment for services I never received.

I moved from North Carolina on Oct 1st 2008, after spending a year in Sanford,NC to finish my degree on Fort Bragg after being honorably discharged from the Marines. The whole time I was an customer with them; I had never been late on an payment, got an ticket, or into an accident. I had liabilty coverage on my van for between 33 - 35 a month, from 2001 to Sept 2008. I started seeing my monthly payments go up to 40 an month, then when I get my policy sent to the agency in Boardman,Ohio; they decide that my premium was going to be 108.00 an month, so after i called them an had to raise cain, they decided to lower it to 51 an month; as the best they could do.

I informed them that if i continued to do business with them; they were only getting payed no more than 33 an month since that is all my disability income allows, and i'm still unemployed; which is the reason I came back to Ohio to live with family anyway. They also said that moving to an new state could cause the premium to increase, is what they claim. This agent did not explian the process to me before acting, or moving my policy to Ohio. Plus the Unemployment rate is higher up here than in North Carolina, so i know that explaination is marlarkie.

I am still unemployed, going to the VA to reopen my claim; in order to receive benefit increases, an to obtain federal employment. this is putting more stress on me while I am doing this, and I am being seen for PTSD right now due to problems between 3 deployments to iraq, and problems returning and dealing with civilian life.

On September 21 2007,I was stopped in a highway work area by a flagman. I stopped behind two other cars. A young man in his mothers car plowed into the back of my 1991 Corvette. This young man never touched his brakes as he said he never saw me. It's 10:30 am, the sun is out and the road is dry. I watched him coming from about a half mile and thought he was coming faster than the 35 mph speed limit and he didn't see me.

First off, I'm a Corvette restorer and collecter,I have three Corvettes. Now the problem with Nationwide Insurance,is they want to give me far less than the value of the car and take the car. They said because the car has over 100,000 miles it's only worth 7K dollars. A Corvette is a collecter car that has no set value. I have over 3000.00 in new parts that I bought before it was wrecked to make it perfect in every way. This includes new leather upholstery, new carpet, and some new body parts. As soon as I finish restoring my 1981 Corvette, the 1991 was to be redone.

Nationwide, since I wouldn't take their offer they wiped it off their books, told me have a nice day. I have an auto repair business, and have told over 300 people what a no good company Nationwide is, many have told me they're glad to know this and definitely will not own Nationwide Insurance. It is now 15 months later and my car is sitting outside rotting into the ground.

I believe the collecter car and speciallty car public should be made aware of Nationwides policys. Thank you for letting me vent my anger

I would like to file a complaint against the poor service I received from a Nationwide adjuster named Travis. Initially, Travis seemed very helpful and said he would take care of my claim, including the depreciation of value. The body shop tried several times to replace the drivers side mirror but it is still defective and shakes to the point where it is difficult to see from the mirror. When I contacted Travis again to follow up with the claim and the depreciation of value, he was very rude and told me that I chose the shop so I have to live with it, we do not do repairs?.

He also informed me that there would not be any depreciation of value claim because my vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it. I asked Travis about the depreciation of value claim because my vehicle was not repaired properly but again, Travis was very rude and unprofessional when he informed that my vehicle was too old for this type of claim and lied to my face when we initially discussed the depreciation claim during our initial assessment.

I do not have Nationwide Insurance, I went through the insurance company of the person who caused the accident and was cited. I realize after this experience with Nationwide, that I will never ever use any of their services again and I would not recommend such an unprofessional company to anyone.
