Dennis of Hurst TX (12/13/01):
I purchased a disability policy from this company that the agent informed me would supplement my worker's compensation in the event an injury kept me from working more than a month. This policy would pay $1000 per month. Well, I had the policy about 4 yrs and last year I got injured and became disabled. I filed a claim on my policy and to my surprise the company told me that they didn't have to pay because my worker's compensation pay was more than the policy. I stated that wasn't mentioned when I purchased the policy. After the denial letter, the company never responded to letters or phone calls I made to them.

I contacted the Texas Attorney Generals Office which in turn directed me to the Texas Insurance Commission. The Insurance Commission would not help me. I was just on my own. I receive less than 70% of my income from workers comp and the disability was supposed to help pickup some of the difference.

I am still disabled and nearly bankrupt because I am unable to continue paying my bills due to my disability. In October, I discontinued paying the premiums on the policy that was no use to me. I feel betrayed by my state and the insurance company that I trust and for paid for 4yrs. Before I filed a claim, they were extremely helpful and now they don't want to know me.
