American Family Insurance |

Bryan of Tucson, AZ, writes:
I signed up for insurance for two cars and my home. In December we did not receive a bill which was normally due on the 13th. We called and got no response or answer from the insurance agent (Chris Belford). We called several days and got no response. We finally called another agent who looked up the information and told us $45.96 was due. We sent a check for that amount. We began to get worried toward the end of December when the check had not cleared the bank. On January 3 another agent (Scott Pattison) called and said the agent (Chris Belford) had quit and he now had our policy. I met with Scott on January 5 and was informed that American Family had cancelled my policy for lack of payment which now sat on Scott's desk, dated Dec. 14, 2000. Due to the circumstances I had to open a new policy in order to have insurance. Through no fault of my own my insurance was cancelled. I could not go to a different insurance company as I would have to pay higher rates for having cancelled insurance. I had to pay late fees and two months in advance for a new policy. I have to explain to the bank who holds the lien on my car why my insurance was cancelled. My registration may be suspended due to the fact that I have no insurance. I now have a cancelled insurance policy on my record. I am one of 80 people that had their insurance cancelled due to the insurance agent not doing his job. I am surprised that the insurance company has not taken care of its customers. |
