Allstate Life Insurance

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I was contacted by Jacqueline Barrera, an agent for Lincoln Benefits, in reference to a life insurance policy. I informed her that I wanted a life insurance policy that would be effective until I turned 95. Jacqueline told me that she had a cash value life insurance policy available that would be effective through the age of 100. Upon receiving my policy I contacted Jacqueline to confirm that the policy was through the age of 100. She repeatedly reassured me that the policy would be valid until I turned 100. She also attempted to pressure me into canceling another policy I had with another insurance company, eluding that her policy was "better".

After further research I discovered that the policy Jacqueline had sold me would only be valid for 10 years (age 70). I was defrauded by Jacqueline into signing up for a policy that I did not want. Throughout the process I made it very clear to Jacqueline that I needed a policy that would last through the age of 100 or more years and she told me that is the policy that she sold me.

I bought a term life insurance and have been paying on it for 20 years. My premiums started out at 21 dollars and 5 year later went to 45 dollars. I received a letter recently and they are raising the premium to over 234 dollars which is a 423% increase. The paperwork shows a guaranteed premium of no more than 599 dollars a year. They are still trying to charge me the 234 a month.

Approximately 25 years ago, I took out a Universal Life insurance policy in the amount of $50,000.00. The purpose of this purchase was to provide my wife with some funds should I predecease her. I was told at the time that the policy would be good until age 95. Well, I spoke with the company just the other day and was told that it would lapse at age 81 unless I added approximately $100 per month to it, then it would go to age 90. This has placed me in a very precarious situation. I am on a fixed income now and cannot afford the extra money per month that they are asking for--but if I don't, all the premiums I have paid over these years will have been in vain, accepting that they have very much enriched the Allstate Co. This company is nothing more than thieves. I definitely have not been in "good hands" unless you count the ones around my throat.

18 yrs ago at the age of 51, 5/8/1992, I purchased a life insurance policy called a universal life policy because I wanted a policy that would leave my loved ones resources they would need in the event of my death. Today, 6/18/2010, I spoke to a representative of the company because I had wanted to borrow $1000 from my policy. I was informed if I did my life insurance would cease. I explained that when I looked at the policy information it showed a maturity date of May 08, 2036. They indicated that date meant something totally different and that the information on the back of the Annual Report was the accurate information.

Located at the bottom of that page was nebulous information saying that if I paid the premiums my coverage on an "illustrated basis would end on 10/3/14. This would be 3 yrs from now and this after I have paid $187.10 month for $22,452.00 and now at 69 I am faced with leaving mothing to anyone. I was totally deceived. It should also be mentioned that I worked for Allstate Insurance in sales for several years. If I could not understand this policy how could the normal layman. No one would buy this policy who wanted to leave money to surviving children or loved ones. No one informed me of this, in 18 years, until I called them. It is a scam of the greatest magnitude.

I have invested almost $22,000 in a insurance policy that will leave my loved ones "0". I could have deposited those funds in different financial instruments to achieve my goal, however, I was directed to this plan. I should mention now that at 69 and having had a heart transplant and kidney transplant I face my death with fear of a promise unkept.

As a boy I saw my family members die, my mom and step dad die without insurance and the family having to pay for a burial, leaving nothing to their children but the burden of paying off a dead man's debt. I promised myself that this would not happen to me. How unfortuante, little did I know.

I've had a Universal Life Insurance Policy with Allstate since 1990. I canceled/terminated this policy at the beginning of this month (2/2010). I was advised, after verifying all the info with a rep, that my cash value amount would be deposited to my account via direct deposit within 10 days. It's now 2/23/10 and no deposit yet as of today.

When I called in the beginning of the month, I told the rep that I'm terminating my policy due to hardship and that I needed the money to move into another rental at the end of the month. Yesterday (2/22) I spoke with a "Terrence" who claimed to be from their "processing dept" and admitted that it was an internal miscommunication that is resulting in the delay of my deposit. I was advised that it was processed on 2/18/10 and he instructed me to call him this morning if I do not have the deposit to my account. I called him 7 times this morning and left several messages.

Finally, I spoke to a customer service supervisor named Paul who informed me that Terrence was nothing more than a customer service rep and he doesn't know where all that info he gave me came from. Furthermore, when I asked to be transferred to a manager in their processing dept, this was not allowed. Paul then proceeded to say that he would handle this personally, even though he now claims this was just processed last night and that it would take 3-5 days for me to receive my deposit. This will prevent me and my family to move into the new rental and possibly leave us out on the streets if I don't receive my deposit by this Friday, 2/26/10.

After 21 years with this company, I am happy to have severed ties with such a rude and dishonest company. Currently, I am still waiting for a positive (if any) action from this company. I am very stressed out, frustrated, and feel like I've been treated with absolutely no respect, especially after having had a policy with Allstate for the past 21 years. If I do end up out on the streets this Friday due to their negligence, I will be seeking legal action against this company.

I had been an Allstate customer since 1988 for auto insurance and since 1991 for life insurance. I have a complaint. In November of 1991, my wife and I went to the office of Allstate agent Kay W. in Summerville, SC, to open a life insurance policy on myself. I retired in 1989 and wanted a guaranteed $50.000 policy. We explained to the agents, Kay and Mark W. that we wanted a policy that would be paid up at some point and would be worth, at the paid up date, $50.000.

They offered us a Universal Life Policy and not the "term" policy we thought we needed. They assured us that this policy would be worth $50.000 and they illustrated the growth of the policy in the first five or six years and they used a fraudulent 8 percent interest rate to illustrate that the policy would mature in the year 2036. We made it plain to them that what we were seeking was a policy that would give my wife some benefits at my demised. They assured us that not only would this policy do that, but it would also give us the flexibility of having a cash value that we could borrow from.

Kay W. worked a calculation based on an interest rate of 8 percent paid on my cash value that made the policy matured in the year 2036 at the age of 95. We didn't know enough about insurance at the time to know that we were being scammed. Never once did they explain that the value of the policy would in the later years be reduced by the cost of the policy or that the real interest rate at the time was 5 percent, nor did they tell us that the interest rate was tied to the stock market.

It was what they hid from us that made us buy this policy as much as what they embellished. Over the years I had my suspicions, but I never became alarmed until I read that the policy was to cease 11/12/14 after 18 year of paying my premium. I called Mark W. to make an appointment. This was when he, for the first time, explained my policy to me fully.

After he had had me for 18 years and there was very little left for him to gain, he enthusiastically explained. I had been squeezed dried. I was left with nothing to leave my wife after 18 years of thinking that she would be taken care of when the time came. You may find it useful to know how this company has been misrepresented by this agency, but there is nothing I can do but appeal to whatever sense of fair play and decency Allstate may have.

Please review my policy and how it was prepared and see if this is a policy you would have written. I have surrendered my policy. Mark W. offered no realistic alternatives. We are devastated. After 18 years of paying $88.00 a month, we are left with no life insurance protection and now I am 68 years old - an age where it is too expensive to but life insurance.

my life insurance policy was cashed out , by my ex- , whom forged my name to documents. wally assisted in this action by in his own words the transaction took place via fax machine.the check was sent to maria whom forged my name and cashed the check. no I.D. was shown or given.

Diminished customer service and disrespect directly from All State Agent in Jonesboro - LM.

I am very disappointed in the fact that after many years of dealing with All State for all of my insurance needs I get treated with disrespect. I got screamed at by an agent that can barely admit when she has made a mistake by mailing to me, my personal Life Insurance application along with personal information that belonged to another insured, including account information and routing numbers for that individual.

When I attempted to call the agent to "advise" her of the mistake that All State had made by mailing my policy information to "my address and in my name" and included in what appeared to be my packet was personal information of another policy holder. I merely made the call in an effort to advise All State of the mistake and to make sure that "my information" had not been released to that other individual by mistake.

I was called a lier! The agent specifically "stated" that that was in no way possible because she always checked everything that went out in the mail and that I must be lying. After calling me a lier (even though I'm still holding onto the actual envelope with my name on it and the actual "stapled" package containing pages that belong to someone else), she then went to proceed to "affirm" that I had opened a package that wasn't addressed to me. She then admitted after about 10 minutes of screaming and calling me a lier that she had made a mistake and went on to tell me to accept her apology and stop making such a big deal out of this.

By that time, I wasn't making a big deal about the mistake it was now about the incredible way that this agent had mistreated her long time client.

She then went on to "threaten" me stating that she could always simply say that she had mailed me 2 packages and that I had opened one that wasnt' for me but that instead was addressed to that other individual. (Unfortunately for her, I have the actual "stapled" package with pages that belong to my application and pages that belong to that other individual along with the original envelope).

Finally she told me basically that she didn't care and that my small policies didn't make a difference to her or her business so that I could go somewhere else if I wanted. I am outraged that someone could provide such POOR customer service. Now I am being "forced" to look into another company to provide with all of mine and my family's insurance needs.

Everyone that has knowledge of the incident, since I was at my office when all of this happened, is outraged after hearing about the type of treatment that an All State agent provides to it's clients. After dealing with All State since back in 2000, I can tell you that I am now ready to switch to another company.

I just wanted to inform All State, in general, in case you are interested to know the type of negative image your agents can sometimes provide to your long time customers.

Thank you for your time. And to present customers of All State "BEWARE" your personal information like account number, checking account routing number and social security number MIGHT end up in someone elses's hands. The worst part...The agent will not bother to acknowledge she made a mistake, instead, she will accuse you or lying!

I had a settlement coming to me from Allstate for $25,000 due on my 25th birthday Oct. 13, 2008. That day came but my money didn't. A few weeks before my b'day I received a form from them asking what bank I wanted my money deposited to. I sent them a voided check from my account in Wachovia. The wrong routing number was placed on the deposit Allstate sent out and I never received my money. I called Allstate on Oct. 14 and they informed me what had happened and they told me that it was my responsibility to call Wachovia and find out where my money was. I called them and they said that they sent the money back to Allstate on Oct. 10. I called Allstate and even gave them the return trace number Wachovia had given me.

I made may calls to Allstate and on Oct. 17 I called them at least 15 time and spoke to Matt & Tracy and they couldn't help me. I asked for their supervisiors Liz & Rose and left messaged for them and they never returned my calls. Over the past 12 days I have left at least 15 messages and I have never received a call back. Now here it is - Oct. 22 and I still don't have my money. On tonights call I was told it might be there on Friday or Monday (2 weeks after it was due).

The was Allstate has treated me is terrible. With computers in this day and age why does it take 2 weeks to transfer money between accounts? I have been dealing with Allstate Life Ins. Co. Northbrook, IL 60062

Because my money was not placed in my account on Oct. 13, 2008 as per my settlement agreement I had to cancel a trip planned for last weekend due to lack of funds and have not been able to pay some of my bills because I was counting on that money to do so. ALso I believe I am entitled to interest on my money they have had 2 weeks longer than they should have.

Recently i was digging through all my important papers and i saw this certificate of credit life and credit disability insurance for sears credit card customer through allstate life insurance company. i was a sears credit card holder but 8 years ago i stopped the credit. i looked on my bank account and the said company is still taking $7 something on my checking account. And also on the promotion when i first signed up for it on 26th of June 1991 it says that after 15 years of contunuous coverage, you get vack every cent you paid in premiums. and the only requirement is tha i maintain the policy for 15 consecutive years.

its been 17 years already and they still keep on taking money from my checking account. i would like to ask for your help to get back all the premiums i have paid from this company.

continuously charging me on my checking account even if i no longer have the credit card and it's been over 15 years.
