Laura of Conway, AR September 26, 2009 On August 12,2009 my husband and I awoke to a horrendous sound! A 16 yr old boy had crashed into the front of our house with a car at 3am. The car did not penetrate through the wall of the house due to the car hitting 2 solid rock columns on our porch, and rock trim on the outside in front of our wall rock fireplace on the inside. My husband called our home owners insurance (Allstate) early that same morning and it was 2 days before an adjuster came out to assess the damage. Our rock fireplace hearth was split in two all the way across horizontally and the rock was coming away from the wall vertically on the left side where the impact was on the outside. Our fireplace insert was also cracked as was the rock above the mantel on both sides equally. The outside of the house was a mess as heavy rocks from the 2 columns that were demolished were everywhere, along with 2 rocking chairs and 2 planters. The rock trim was damaged all along the porch to the front dorr as the windows bent frame. 3 windows at the back of the house were cracked on the inside panes due to the impact also. The boy did not have permission to drive his stepdad's car and the car was totalled. Thankfully the boy was not injured, but he did leave the scene and came back 30 min. later and turned himself in to the police. The step-dad's insurance also happens to be Allstate. The adjuster ,Brian R, who came out 2 days later said he was the adjuster for both his(step-dad) and our insurance. When he left after his assessment all he said was he needed to check out the price of a comparable fireplace insert. He said nothing to me about that I should have any contractors out to investigate and give us their estimates. I really didn't know what to do as we have never been through anything like this before. On my own I contacted a couple of reputible contractors to come out and estimate the damages. After several days they contactd me with their estimates which were comparible to 24-25,000. In all this time we had not heard back from Brian so I had my husband call him to ask what was his hold up-I couldn't understand why it would take almost 3 weeks to find out how much a fireplace insert costs. He told my husband he was still waiting on it. My husband told him that we had gotten 2 estimates from local contractors and what their estimates were. His reply was "really?-I need to come back out there I guess and re-look at everything!" My husband also faxed in to Allstate the estimates we had gotten. Well, Brian finally came back out after 5 weeks and looked all around and measured a few things and was trying to give us some advice on the 2 contractors that had given us the estimtates. He told us they were both really good, but for us to "be careful" about them and was giving us the impression that we were going to have to choose one or the other and let him know!. He was walking around telling us how we were going to get this and that fixed and told us he would prob. be finished with his assessment in a couple of days. A week went by without a word from him and we came home from work one night and my husband just happened to see a small part of an envelope under our doormat. When he pulled it out it was letter from Allstate and a cheap itemized assessment and a check-signed by Brian for 13,000. He has never even called to let us know that he left us a check or anything. It has now been 2 days and he still hasn't contacted us to make sure we got a signed check or anything that was just left outside under our doormat. We have had Allstate insurance for 25 years and have only had to call them once when our refrigerator flooded our kitchen floor and it cost them 2000 to replace it! That was prob around 15 years ago! Al of Davie, FL September 25, 2009 While I was driving home on the interstate as I do daily I noticed the driver behind me was following too close and was on their cell phone. Before I know it, this vehicle hit my rear bumper. At the time of the accident I was driving under the speed limit and was not braking. I immediately pulled into the emergency lane behind a Florida Highway Patrol FHP Officer that was already at the scene. They are typically parked along the interstate with their lights on during rush hour to catch speeders and HOV lane offenders. So when I stop behind him I notice that two other vehicles (other than the one that hit me) pull along side of the Officer to notify him of what happened. The Officer seemed to be upset and yelled/motioned to those vehicles to keep moving. After several attempts, those drivers departed. The officer then noticed me behind him and motioned for me to keep moving. He noticed me because I honked my horn and motioned to him to not let them go because one was involved in the accident and one was a witness. Yes, one of those vehicles was obviously just involved in the accident. Their vehicle was scraped alongside the vehicle from where they hit the vehicle behind me…but the Officer would have never known it because he was too busy to attempt to speak with the two vehicles that motioned for his assistance. Great job FHP. When he motioned for me to keep moving I stood my ground and he then noticed that there was also another vehicle close by that was involved in an accident (the one that hit me). In his report, he said that the vehicle behind me was “sideswiped†and in turn hit me. I agree that they were probably sideswiped by the vehicle that the Officer told to leave the scene, but I don’t agree that as a result of that hit, the car behind me hit me. The reason I was hit is because they were following too close to begin with. I thought his was the typical case of getting hit from behind and the driver that hit me would be at fault (this driver also had a suspended license / did not show it and no registration). Long story short, the Allstate rep said their insured was not at fault. The “ghost†driver was at fault. …that they were “pushed†into me. This was before ever seeing the police report. But because their insured didn’t get a citation, they were not at fault. My claim was denied. Amal of Morganville, NJ September 23, 2009 My car was considered totaled in a car accident. Allstate represents the guilty party. After one month, the claim still has not been processed, because I was told by the claim dept. Have yet to receive check for the market value of car. Nobody answers calls including agent & manager. L of Gardena, CA September 18, 2009 I was hit by an All State Driver. My appointment time comes, Lucas sent me away, I was discriminated because I have a hispanic last name and he probably thought I dont have an insurance. My insurance is Wawanesa and I plan to sue them for discrimination. donna of marietta, GA August 26, 2009 on May 6 I spoke to F. Andresen about cancelling the automatic payment feature on my policy as I was going to change banks. I kept enough money for the May 16 auto payment, but then had a minimum amount of money in that account. she did not honor my request, as she said she would when we spoke, the June 16 payment hit my account which caused three very small transactions to go into overdraft, costing me 105.00 in service fees. I spoke to P.t Andresen, he said to fax a copy of my bank statement and would see what he could do to help me recover some of my fees. This was in June, to date, he has not called me back, I've left two messages for him. I finally spoke to F. Andresen on August 25 and she acted like this was the first she was hearing about this, although when I spoke to P. he said he would talk to her to see what happened. I would like for these two inept insurance underwriters be responsible for the fees they cost me, as it was their responsibility to cancel the auto draft feature, which F. told me she would take care of. I even told her I would get with her to make the June payment and she was in total agreement with me that she would take care of it. Casey of Dallas, OR August 20, 2009 I had insurance with this company under my dads name but was paying money out for it every month however much mine cost I would pay. I had been paying for 2 years when my parents finally decided to take me off. They told them I was never insured in the first place but yet they gave me insurance cards for my car. my parents asked what if they get pulled over they said they have the card to show they just wont be actually covered. Linda of Loomis , CA August 6, 2009 June 25, 2008 an Allstate Client hit my car, she admitted guilt to Allstate but Allstate still claimed it was my fault and pushed the case to Ins. Arbitration. The arbitrator ruled in my favor, my daughters head hit the window at the time of the incident. I told the agents, the owner of the vehicle, I didn't think there was any damage at the time. The two of us were in shock from the accident, the next day I called Allstate to make a claim to repair my car, they took a deposition. What's funny is a few weeks later I received a letter dated before the depo and the meeting with there estimator that they claimed the accident my fault. There owner admitted fault but Allstate made up a story that I hit her and forced it to arbitration. My daughter and I went to the doctor as soon as I could between depos, auto estimates, etc. Allstate refused to refund me my time loss in wages. Mark of Philadelphia, PA August 1, 2009 On the afternoon of July 17, 2009, I was solicited for auto insurance from an Allstate Insurance Company Representative named N. Terra. I had specifically described my current financial situation and concerns, before he explained how he could reduce my coverages. He explained that I could abandon my current insurance provider, (Erie) with a balance still owed of 1050.00. I unambiguously explained that my insurance would expire on midnight of July 19th, 2009. Mr. Terra then instructed me to sign paperwork to get the process of transitioning to Allstate started, which included some personal information including that of my bank account. He sustained his position repeatedly that nothing would be charged until the policy had binded, and nothing would bind until my new policy was in effect. I explained that I could not sign the paperwork because I am currently disabled and unable to drive due to an injury at work. He then asked if I had a fax machine, I responded no, but my wife does at work. He then contacted and instructed my wife to sign my name to the documents he had faxed to her work. Shortly after, I called my current provider and asked for the few days grace as Mr. Terra had previously instructed me to do. They denied me this action stating that I would need to pay for the whole month in which, once again, Mr. Terra instructed me to do and then cancel once his policy took effect--- which defeated the purpose of trying to save money. At this point I was quite drained and frankly suspicious of Mr. Terra intentions, so I immediately called and told him I was not interested in the policy. I had also realized at this time that he had debited my bank account for 314.98. He deceived my wife into singing a document with my name, in which I have enclosed a copy that is clearly not my signature! I repeatedly called and demanded that the monies taken be placed back into my account. Mr. Terra agreed and asked me to come by his office on Saturday; however I had already explained that I was disabled and could not drive. Monday, July 20th, I called his office again and was instructed by his secretary Lauren to sign another paper stating that I didn't want the insurance (even though I had already explained this several times); I complied with their wished so I could replenish the funds in my account. I was told the monies would be refunded, but by this time my account was already debited by Allstate, many of my checks that I had pending over drafted my account and I incurred many fees of 27 each. As I had previously stated and explained to Mr. Terra, I am on a very strict budget due to my recent injury and I feel that while Mr. Terra was aware of my situation, he took advantage of me by way of bad business ethics and representing Allstate Insurance Company in an unscrupulous manner in which I don't think they would want to be portrayed. All I ever asked is for Mr. Terra to refund my money, which to date (July 31, 2009) has not yet been received, with the overdraft fees incurred. I have enclosed copies of the correspondences between Mr. Terra organization and myself, as well as some bank statements. I was also contacted by Mr. Terra on July 28 at 2:28pm via his cell phone, (I have a phone record) wherein he stated that he would have taken care of all of the charges, if I didn't call the corporate office. Now, I gathered all the money I could, but because of Mr. Terra's misleading sales pitch, I am still in the negative. I'm requesting that in addition to the 314.98, that Mr. Terra pay the additional 216.00 for overdraft fees. Since my injury, I have nothing but time on my hands and therefore, this will be the first of several correspondences that I will write until I feel justice is done. I currently have a homeowner's policy with Allstate that I am considering cancelling due to the poor service I have encountered with Mr. Terra. We had hoped for a long lasting working relationship with Allstate Insurance Company, but in view of the careless handling of associate, we may have to seriously re-consider our intentions. David of Springfield, MO July 28, 2009 extremely high rates found out they were over charging us on auto insurance for knows how long Grace of Fresno, CA July 24, 2009 I handle finances for my 78 year old mother who still drives. She has been insured with Allstate for years. She received a inquiry from Allstate as to her mileage on her car. She thought it was junk mail and tossed it. When it was time to pay her insurance bill her rates had raised by 100. When I asked why, I was told that it was because the survey was not filled out. I asked them if they noted on the survey that if it was not completed that the insured's rates would rise. He said "no", that's a good idea. Apparently if my mother drives her car more than 5,000 miles a year her rates rise. Without a response to the survey, they raised her rates to the highest level for someone who drives 12,000 miles per year. I got the current mileage and was able to get them to lower the rate by 30. Now, I have to show them proof that she doesn't drive over 5,000 miles a year to get the rate that we have had. Ridiculous! My mother was livid. She says, "What do I have a car for and pay insurance for if they limit the amount I can drive?!" She may be old, but she's definitely not stupid. She's absolutely right. This practice is ridiculous!
