Joe of Jacksonville FL (11/01/06)
Wyonna of West Frankfort, IL September 29, 2006 Wyonna of West Frankfort IL (09/29/06) They have have now informed me they do not have to fix cosmetic defects and are not going to do anything more about the family room ceiling. The dining room light is not center of the room, so you can't use the patio door if you put the table under the light. I was told to swag it over to where I want it. It looks stupid. Cosmetic defects are not covered by anyone's warranty and therefore you are just out of luck getting them fixed. I contacted HUD and they have been working for 1-1/2 years to get the structural problems fixed. In Feb/Mar of this year (for 3-1/2 weeks), Fleetwood had a crew come out and redo EVERY floor in my home. In April, the problems were back, but with a new twist. An I-beam had twisted and broken one crossbeam welded to it and bent the crossbeam on the other side and my walls were now bowing throughout the house. Anywhere from 1/2 inch to almost 2 inches. In July 2005, HUD performed an inspection and witnessed/found my ductwork was leaking cold air inside the belly cavity and it was causing condensation which was causing the floors and walls to bow. They also found mold under my home. They requested Fleetwood to repair the ductwork, then the floors and walls and have the inside of the house tested for mold. Fleetwood refused to have the interior of the house checked for mold. Fleetwood sent a crew out. They refused to work under the house with the mold, so Fleetwood sent someone to clean up the mold on the very underside of the house. Not inside the belly cavity, just the outside. They said their crew inspected the ductwork and they said it did not leak. Fleetwood sent a letter to HUD stating they are going to fix only my kitchen floor, not the bowed walls throughout the house, or the leaking ductwork nor the I-beam. They said the walls being bowed were within Fleetwood tolerance. HUD has stated they will have to repair these things. This is a nightmare with no end in sight. Fleetwood states on their website they only use the best quality materials in their homes. I have pictures of the 2x6 exterior walls in my family room. They used 2x6's that were the edges of trees. You can see where they are skinned back where the bark was. They also state customer satisfaction is their goal. Somehow it does not seem that telling someone they do not have to fix cosmetic defects or bowed walls is wanting their customers to be satisfied. I have filed a complaint with HUD and the Illinois Attorney General's Office and am still waiting. I believe something needs to be done about this kind of thing. Not just for me, but for everyone. More and more people are buying these homes thinking that since the government regulates them so they must be good. No one tells us they only regulate structural non-conformities, not misrepresentations, deletions, or cosmetic defects. You're on your own for them. My family has been put thru hell for the last 1-1/2 years with no end in sight. My 5 year old grandson has recently developed serious hives all over his body. We took him to the doctor and we suspect it is from the mold spores now inside my home. Report Your Experience
