My wife and I rented a townhouse from IMT Residential in Reseda, CA. Good place, however they are stealing our deposits. They took $500 "security" deposit and $500 "pet" deposit. However, they are not deliniating between the different deposits when charging us before applying the refund. It was a brand new unit before we moved in for 12 months and they are chargins $500 for "painting" and $300 for "carpet cleaning." We did no damage to the carpet or walls. Sure there is normal wear and tear on the carpet, but no staines, spots, or tears.
Also, we did hang several pictures but no damage to the walls. I checked the civil code and it states that normal wear on carpet is allowable and paint and holes from hanging pictures is not a lawful deduction. I sent them a clear and detailed letter. Guess what? They refuse to respond. Next step is a lawyer. Wish this business would just respond by either sending us back a reasonable amount from our $1000 of deposits or provide the receipets of the work they charged us for as the law states. They will not even respond. They are liars and thieves. Never again will I rent from them or let anyone I know rent from them. Give property management companies a horrible name.
