Linda of St. Clairsville, OH October 20, 2008
Linda of St. Clairsville OH (10/20/08) bought water heater at lowe's 6/01/08, it broke down, not hot water. had someone look at it, relit pilot light, lasted 1 day, had to weight awk, because the person who helped me with it is out of town, he then replaces the thermo coupler. that lasted one day. now i have no hot water again. i called the number on the tank, could not understand a word the person was saying. they were supposed to give me the number to sear's for repair, they gave me dhl's number, so i had to call back and weight on hold again, got the right number, called sears, they said they had to know when my part would be in.
had to call whirlpool back for the 3rd. time to find out when the part is coming, now i have to weight for the part then try to get sears to come out! i had the same stupid issues with poor workmanship with a whirlpool fridge that they did not stand behind . and i said i would never buy a whirlpool again. unfortunatly, i was out of town and just had someone take care of this tank for me. didn't pay much attention to the brand. but when i had this problem, i knew it would be a royal pain, just like the fridge was.
how do they get away with this all the time? I will be way more careful to NEVER buy whirlpool again. it is the only brand that i have ever had any problems with. and they do not care if you are upset, if you never buy there product again, horrible customer service! just lose of work to stay home to try to get it fixed, and the inconvenience of no hot water! that's bad enough. Crystal of Hesperia CA (10/19/08) The product number BTG1F4034T3NOV was purchased on February 26th,2008 and I've had to replace the thermostatcouple and gas valve, because the pilot was not staying lit.And it is only October 19,2008. The replacement parts are not working now. I am having difficulty contacting whirlpool and filing a refund claim for the parts replaced and for the entire water tank unit. I want my money back so I can purchase a better working appliance.
My entire family are suffering with mental and physical and financial hardship related to this product. We have missed work for appointments relating to the repair work needed. We have had to pay additional cost like renting hotel rooms to shower for work and school. And to wash cloths outside the home on seperate occasions. I just spent an additional costs today for 2 replacement parts, and am being charged another cost for installation again. I have to carry my dirty laundry out with me and get it washed for school and work this week, and i'm personally suffering severe back/neck pain and pelvic pain and a great amount of anxiety over this entire ordeal. James of El Paso TX (10/19/08) Same problem with pilot Light. Civil Suit settled giving back consumers 30 and attorneys over 2 million. I suggest we all mount the water heater on top of our houses with a sign Whirlpool Lemon This should get National attention and put Whirlpool out of business. We the people must do the right thing and protect ourselves from these unethical practises so common in today's Society.

Kathleen of Penisula OH (10/19/08) Flame lock water heater. Add me tho the long list of customers who were taken by purchasing this faulty tank. Only I put it in 3 rental properties to date and ALL three of them have gone bad!!! The first one I ordered the part but what good is that when the tenant cannot go days without hot water. After that, 2 more went bad I tried to use the part it didnt work either The tanks were less than 2 years old!!! What a rip off. My plumber said better to replace and be done with the problem
3 tanks 350 each for new tanks plus installation Appox 1500 dollars. Patrick of Omaha, NE October 19, 2008
Patrick of Omaha NE (10/19/08) Saturday, labor day week end, our Whirlpool hot water heater went out. Got it restarted, but soon quit again. Called Lowes (where we bought it 10 months before)- referred to an 800 number. Its a holiday weekend, so we were willing to pay ourselves. Called a service company - they don't have parts - gave us the same 800 number. Called them, go through steps to re-lighting -including hooking a couple of wires together with a paper clip. End result - they'll send a part, which can't be shipped until Tuesday to arrive Wed.
Part arrives Wed, its the pilot light ensemble. manage to get it installed after prying out the old piece. No difference. Call the 800#, try the same things again, still won't light. When we get to a point where it beyond my skills and equipment - THEN I get a authorization number and phone number for a technician. Its about 7:00 am, but tech can't come out until the next day. Tech arrives, has NEVER seen that part shipped out. its always been the gas control part. replaces that, and everything work. Except next day, slight smell of gas.
Service company can't send anybody out for a day or 2, so have the gas company come out. is a slight leak on the connection - BUT the part also leaks gas around the control knob. So have to have the tech come out again and replace the part. After this started is when I find out about the previous recall issues. Class action lawset settles just BEFORE I buy my waterheater at Lowes. So I'm pretty unhappy with Lowes for continuing to sell this crap with known issues. Nor Whirlpool (obviously). probably won't EVER buy an appliance from them again.
So, water heater stops working on Sat. Get it restarted that morning, and once on Sunday morning (very short time). Part arrives late Wed, but its Friday until we have hot water. So didn't cost me a dime (since I can easily work from home or different hours). Just a problem with getting clean with cold water. Had there been any parts in town, I would have paid the 150 week end service charge plus parts to have hot water. But just want to warn everybody to not have any technical skills when calling the number. I could have had the technician out there much quicker if I had been skill-less.
