Debbie of Fountain, CO October 28, 2008
Debbie of Fountain CO (10/28/08) My hot water heater broke down on Saturday the 25th of September. I call the 1-877 number and not only got the run around, but answers that they want or think that you want to hear. How about the truth for a change. The problems that is going on with the Whirl pool hot water heater is on-line for petes sake. There are alot of consumers who are not as dumb as you like to think that they might be. Whirl pool you are selling some real lemons, and I don't like being sucker punched.
NO HOT WATER!!!!! Someone is suppose to be here today. It is now 4:44 and there is still nobody here... I don't need to pushed around by some attorney. Just get my hot water heater FIXED!!!!!!! Mike of Henderson, NV October 28, 2008
Mike of Henderson NV (10/28/08) defective whirlpool FG model water heater that won't stay lit. cannot access 800 number, on hold for over 1 hr.
no hot water for over 4 days John of Laurel, MD October 28, 2008
John of Laurel MD (10/28/08) Repeated failure of water heater gas valve on WHIRLPOOL FG1H5040T3NV model water heater purchased at Lowe's. My story is just a repetition of several others on this site. Pilot fails, at first intermittent and then permanent, after less than two years in place. Standard part at Lowe's doesn't fit because of reverse threading. No one at Lowe's admits to knowing anything. Found a reverse threaded thermocouple, no relief.
Called a plumber, paid him 220 to call the 877 number and walk through a bunch of unnecessary steps before admitting it is a valve failure. Replaced the valve myself with one shipped from TN, a process of several hours involving emptying the tank. Lasted 8 months. Here we go again. Hundreds of , many days without hot water. They have known for a long time that this was happening, and should have substituted a real functioning gas valve.
It takes an infinite amount of aggravation to get me angry enough to sit down and write this. Why did WHIRLPOOL slap their name on a piece of junk from American Home Heater in TN? Even then, they could have stepped up and done a recall or a replacement campaign through Lowe's. Only if someone dies as a result of a failed repair will they get the publicity they deserve for this. Cathy of Canton, OH October 27, 2008
Cathy of Canton OH (10/27/08) We bought a 40 gallon whirl pool water heater on sept 30,2007. on july 18,2008 we had to replace the gas thermostat, again on oct 13, 2008 we had to replace the gas thermostat--- today is oct 27, 2008 and IT WENT OUT AGAIN! 14 days later! They gave us some lame line about how sorry they were and how they would send out a new part in 24 hours
They only pay a small amount of the install fee, you have to make up the rest, if you install it yourself so you don't have the bill and the wait time for the part, you buy the part yourself, you have to wait 2-3 weeks for a check--- this is the 3rd time the same part has broken in a year on a water heater that is supposed to be good for 6years- what a joke!
We have had to drain the water heater 3 times now- perfectly good water-- 40 some gallons at a time- not to mention the hardship of no hot water, the financial burden of waiting three weeks for reimbursement, and THE TIME TO INSTALL THE PIECE! My husband has had to take time off of work all 3 times! Lost pay, no hot water, and a waste of a natural resourse Casey of Crossville, TN October 25, 2008
Casey of Crossville TN (10/25/08) We replaced a three year old Whirlpool water heater that had rusted from the inside out in January 2008. We are now having problems with another Whirlpool water heater. This is a flame lock water heater that will not stay lit. I called on Saturday and Whirlpool is suppose to have a part here on Tuesday - that's at least 5 days with no hot water. Additionally, they were going to charge 15 for shipping until I asked to speak to a supervisor and then the customer service rep said she would waive the shipping fee.
This company is ridiculous! They are making substandard water heaters and then expect customers to pay over and over to keep them working. I have spent several hundred dollars on water heaters in the past 3-4 years; not to mention the headache of not having hot water for extended periods of time. I've been burned twice now and will never own a Whirlpool appliance again. The fact that their water heaters are poorly made is bad enough, but when you add terrible customer service to the mix, it makes for a really bad customer experience. Mine is not an isolated experience either.
I wish someone would hold Whirlpool responsible for the problems with the water heaters that are causing customers so many problems. Maybe Lowe's will take note and look for a different water heater supplier. At least give customers an option!
