Lanita of Loveland, OH October 4, 2009

Congradulations I am now the happy owner of a whirlpool water heater that will not stay lit and like other posts you call the 800 number and you are speaking to India. When you contact Lowes they give you another 800 number. The heater was purchased in late 2006 and stated acting up two days ago and unlike some of the other posts mine will not relight at all.

James of Las Vegas, NV October 3, 2009

On Sept 28, 2009 our hot water heater quit working. I called the toll free service number and was instructed to perform a few tests and to call them back with the results. After performing the diagnostic tests as instructed I called Whirlpool back and was told by them that the Thermal switch was bad.

I was told at that time that the parts were covered under the warranty and that I was responsible for the shipping costs, after asking them if I could purchase the part locally they said no. I was then told the price differences of shipping between receiving the part in a day and a half to options of many days later. I exclaimed that I was out of hot water and was told they would waive the shipping costs and that I would recieve the part in the next day and a half.

So on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 the part arrives and I begin the removal of the old part and the install of the new. Upon trying to remove the old orifice fitting to install in the new I damaged the soft brass fitting trying to remove the frozen piece. So I called the toll free help line again to let them know that I now needed a new orifice because the old fitting would not come lose and had been damaged as a result of trying to remove it. I was told they would, once again ship it to me and that it would take another day in a half to receive it. So on October 3, 2009 the orifice arrived and I was able to finally complete the installation myself - 6 days after the problem arouse.

So I am more than disgusted with Whirlpools ability to make available the parts necessary for the homeowner to make necessary repairs. I would rather be able to pay for the parts if it means I can fix the problem the same day without having to heat water on the stove to take daily bath's. I will certainly reconsider ever buying another Whirlpool product if this is the kind of hassle I will encounter any time a repair is needed.

JAMES of Pilesgrove, NJ October 3, 2009

My two year old Whirlpool gas water heater, model BFGF303053NOV, which I bought from Lowes quit working. The pilot light went out and I could not relight it. The Whirlpool rep. said I needed part #295098 or 6910794. Our Lowes doesn't have neither.

Alfred of San Bernardino, CA October 2, 2009

have waited patiently to receive the new manifold door but still have not received it. I called the 800 number that was provided on the webpage for the lawsuit and the person I spoke with checked and told me that I was on the list to receive the new manifold door but didn't know when it would be sent out.

that was over a year ago and I still have not received it. Now the webpage is no longer available. where can I turn to for help with this you Im hoping. thx Have not had hot water in half of the the house for a good four years or so. (It's a good thing I have a second water heater that works for the other half of the house)

Before we even got any water heated, the sensor went bad and Lowe's wanted a RA number from the manufacturer and they (Whirlpool have sold their name to this other service company. They just want to send people out and charge you labor. Sounds like Whirlpool new they had a defected product so instead of recalling it and costing them millions they found a company that would buy the name and they would keep going out and fix them because they new they would be breaking down.

Now if that doesn't sound like a scam. The service company would not let me talk to a supervisor, everytime I was on hold to talk to one, I got hung up on. This really is a scam so that Whirlpool did not have to recall faulty equipment, I hope it is checked because I am sure other companies are doing it as well and if it is not stopped other consumers will do unprotected.

We had to buy another hot water heater, which cost another 400 and we were just tough out of luck for the other one unless we wanted to pay labor @ 200 a pop and it looked as though they wuld probably be back very soon to fix another problem and believe me they already know what's wrong, they bought the problem. I bought a GE, hope sombody cares about quality...we will see

Sharla of Indianapolis, IN September 29, 2009

I purchased a gas water heater from whirlpool in Feb of 2008, It is junk! Within 3 months of having it installed-the cuplar quit working. They mailed me a new one and now (just yesterday) my hot water heater is not working again! Whirlpool is sending me another replacement. This is insane. my family has been without water because of this junk heater that I piad good money for. This is the second time with the same water heater. My family can not take showers or wash dishes, do laundry or anything. Now I have to pay out of pocket again to have a repair man come and install this cuplar again. I feel that I have been taken advantage of by whirlpool and will never purchase another item from them as long as I live! I even paid Lowe's extra money for the extended warranty on this thing. That of course does nothing for me.

Andrea of 1301 N Edgar, OK September 27, 2009

I bought Whirlpool Hot water heater from Lowes in late 2006. Little did we know about the said class action lawsuit on this model. If we had we would have never gone with this company. So fast forward to early 2008 and surprise our pilot light starts the game of going out every day. So we do what anyone else would do. We called a plumber. This plumber before they even came out told us about the recall and to call the number on the side. We call the number and go through the problem of talking to some Indian person who barely understands english who can't do anything but read what he's given.

Finally we are given the part needed which surprise is the kit. Only at that time we weren't given any choice but overnight shipping for 20 dollars. Of course by that point it wouldn't stay lit at all so of course we had to do what we had to do. So fast forward again 3 days later and the part comes in. We call our plumber and set up the appointment. The plumber comes and installs. Like most of the other stories he told us how a lot of his work was thanks to this model and the great company brand known as Whirlpool.

So it works and we're happy. now fast forward to 2009 here. Just this last month of September. What starts happening but the same game of let's find the pilot light. So we call up the company again and now by the miracle of God their grasp of the English language as gotten worse. needless to say after what seemed like an eternity of tell us everything from we should clean the vent to you shouldn't have any air flow we finally settled on it's the gas valved with them. They send us this part. After having it put in of course this didnt' fix the problem. So we call back and have to fight with our friendly and oh so helpful rep. Again we're asked was your plumber certified? DUH of course he is. Did you clean the vent? Duh of course we do. Well there is nothing wrong then he tells us. And what are we told. To call the gas company to check our gas flow etc. So finally we had had enough. We tell them we'll just contact a lawyer and that we are tired of this crap.

So there is nothing like threatening them with a lawyer for them to decide to do something helpful for once or so we thought. They put us on hold for what seemed like days. Finally a "Supervisor" comes on and says they'll give us an RMA to get a new tank and that we won't have to worry about removing the old tank, dragging it back to lowes with us 3 years later and that we could just go and pick up the new tank. We even double checked twice becuase this sounded too good to be true. So to be double sure after talking to said "Supervisor" we even call lowes to check. They tell us the same thing.

Well our last fastforward to today. Sunday. We head over to lowes ready to pick up our new tank and low and behond after having traveled the 30 plus mins to get there we're told that we have to bring the old tank with us. We explain what we were told by the "Supervisor" and the lowes employee. We're pretty much told to sit and spin. That we'll have to bring the old water heater and be witout any hot water for the week it would take to get the plumber to come back out again the 4th time and remove the tank, drain it. Then of course we'd have to bring it over there.

So we're tired, fedup, and pissed as hell and aren't going to take it anymore. Whirlpool and Lowes can sit and spin. They won't be receiving another damn dime from us again. I'd rather heat water on a stove over a log fire in the winter without clothes before I'd spend another dime with them ever again. So needless to say we're trying to keep this piece of crap functioning just enough till we can get our new hot water tank which sure as hell will not be manufactured the american company again. And we won't be buying it at Lowes either.

Chris of Derby, KS September 23, 2009

they keep sending out the same part over and over agian. the part last under a year then goes out. We replace it 3 times and can't get the water heater replace. they just keep shipping out the part and expect us to pay for the shipping.

Robert of Utica, NY September 21, 2009

My roommates and I turned the power off to bomb for spiders. The Whirlpool water heater will not relight. I followed all the steps several times. I even had one person watch the window for a flame for an hour worth of trying. Whirlpool people are completely useless. Why replace the thermocoupling on a machine that is only two years old. Another repair man will arrive between 12 and 5 tomorrow.
