Peggy of Raleigh NC (08/16/08) I bought a Calypso washer 4 years ago adn have not gotten the same code LD or long drain that I read another consumer complain about. I had a repairman ( from the company recommended by whirlpool) to coem out adn he said it was the pump. It would cost 322 to fix with parts and labor.
When I contacted Whirlpool about this, they said that my make and model were not involved in any recall or lawsuit. I had to pay 65 for teh visit from the repairman. I have just bought a new Maytag for 399. What happened to appliances lasting more than 5 years?
I went without a washer for over month! i ahd to take clothes to relative's homes to wash and/or wash by hand in my sink! I am a single mom and could afford a new washer, but now have no choice. Marsha of Pittsford, NY August 15, 2008
Marsha of Pittsford NY (08/15/08) I purchased a Whirlpool Washer and Gas Dryer in November 2006 from Best Buy(Henrietta NY). From the beginning, when using the dryer (Model# WGD5530FQ0), on occasion a piece of clothing would come out with a spot or twisted up. I noticed the clothing was getting stuck on the plastic rim at the front of the dryer opening. Where as it only happened on occasion, I just ffigured it was a design flaw. I never encountered this problem with my prior Whirlpool dryer.
But earlier this month I had to call a repairman when a shirt and washcloth became so entrapped in the seal I couldn't remove them. According to my repairman, the dryer drum is warped and it was inn that condition since manufacture. He said Whirlpool should honor the repair under warranty even though it is past the warranty period. My cost for the service call, replacing the seals, installing a used drum, and labor came to 189.00 including tax. I asked Whirpool to replace and install a new drum at their cost and to reimburse my repair cost that I incurred because of the found defect.
I feel Whirlpool owes me a new dryer drum plus the repair cost of 189.00 I incurred because of the found defect. My repairman says the dryer drum could not be warped through my use. It is a manufacturer defect. Madonna of Danforth, IL August 14, 2008
Madonna of Danforth IL (08/14/08) I bought a whirlpool calypso washer and dryer 4 yrs ago. We noticed increase in problems, such as the whole house almost shook and made loud noises when on the spin cycle, and several of my good white pieces of clothing have been ruined by black streaks thru them after the wash cycle.
Our repair man has replaced shock absorbers and ujoint and has done everything the whirlpool tech has suggested and the problem is worse. I talked to whirlpool and they offered 15% off on a new washer good for the next 30 days. I don't believe that is satisfactory I payed for extended warranty every year on these machines until this past year when they didn't send a renewal.
When I emailed and called them about renewing I didn't get any response. That's when I learned they quit making the calypso. I also just found out that there have been other complaints like mine regarding the same problems, and again no notice from whirlpool regarding the problems or recall. I feel this is UNACCEPTABLE and whirlpool should replace my washer free of charge. They had no problem in taking my money for extended warranties when they new there were issues with the calpso. I should not have to fork out more money on another new washer after only 4 yrs
