We have a 2 year old Whirlpool slip-in range. The door will not stay shut tight enough to seal and the light in the oven stays on most of the time.

I can easily push it shut but usually opens back up enough to turn the light back on.

The tempered glass on the front of the oven door to my Whirlpool Inglis oven blew up in my face on Saturday morning. The stove is ten years old, was not on at the time, and I was washing the glass down. There was a bang and then glass everywhere.

All that came out of it was small cuts on my face and neck as I had reading glasses on at the time.

I do not expect warranty but  wanted them to know of the incident, in case there was ever a time that this should happen to someone else that wouldn't of been so lucky to have a pair of glasses on. I have reordered another glass replacement which is not a problem, but they wanted me to pay for a technician to come and take a look at what went wrong.

I will not pay the 69.99 for a technician to come over and inspect a bunch of broken glass. They appear unconcerned in looking into this with the possibility that it could save them a law suit in the future. There was no manager of the company that I could take this up with, they said that they would make a file and keep it in case it should ever happen with anyone else.

On 12-14-2005 the Fire Dept was called to my house on a Carbon Monoxide call. They determined the cause was coming from my oven. After speaking with the safety dept at whirlpool. They treated me very poorly and told me a running refrigerator was more important. Well the serviced it on 1-03-06 I asked the service man if I should be concerned about the CO. I have little children. He told me no it wasn't even carbon monxide to begin with it was natural gas.

Today is 1-05-06 we cooked dinner using our oven guess what? Our CO detector went off again. How long do we wait now with headaches, and once again without an oven? The stove is only 3 years old.

Trevor of Melbourne FL (11/11/05)
I purchased a Whirlpool gas range (model SF387LEKB) in June of 2002 from Sears. In March of 2003 I had a problem with the regulator. A repair technician from Sears came out, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the regulator. No problems until November of 2005. There appeared to be no gas flowing to the oven, and therefore it would not ignite. The top burners worked fine.

Again, a repair technician from Sears came out but could not pinpoint the problem, and so he suggested the control panel needed to be replaced, since it controlled the flow of gas to the oven. He said the cost of a new control panel would be 750, which is close to the cost of the range itself. Neither Sears nor Whirlpool would take any responsibility, since they said the range is out of its 12 month warranty period.
