Robert of Paradise CA (07/16/08) Beverly of Chimayo, NM April 27, 2008 Beverly of Chimayo NM (04/27/08) We called several pest control companies. The Terminix rep told us their system, in-ground baits coupled with a biological toxin, would not just kill on-site termites but destroy the termite nest because the worker termites would carry toxic food back with them to feed the other termites. And all this without poisoning our soil, endangering our pets, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. In short, the only system of termite control any sane person would even consider. I've lived in New Mexico for nearly 40 years. When I moved here, termites really were not an issue. Now they are, perhaps as a result of climate change, but my prior experience with them was nil and I bit. We paid them about 400 per year for three years. Our contract called for someone to come and check the baits once a month. Their service was intermittent, and we seldom saw the same technician twice. March marked the anniversary date for our contract. In seeking a renewal of the contract, they told us they were no longer using the bait system and they would be coming out to remove the traps and do an inspection. During this time, we had additional termite damage to the same window frame. On the day of the inspection, the technician found no termites in the house, but some under the cement tiles in front of the porch. The technician had begun pulling up the baits before my husband realized he was on the premises. My husband said, wait a minute, I didn't tell you to take those up. After some discussion, the technician called his supervisor and my husband overheard him say, Yeah, this guy wants to keep them. He thinks they'll protect him from termites.
My husband now tells me they don't offer anything but inspections and what amounts to termite insurance. We actually paid on many invoices thinking Terminix, a nationally recognised company, must have legitimate reason to bill us. And maintaining excellent credit is our business' highest priority - we don't typically dispute 95 charges. It's now getting into March, 2008 - and we still have not received anything in writing from Terminix confirming that our accounts are cancelled (after multiple requests).
