Terminix Pleads Guilty To Assault In New Jersey Case
Terminix Settles with New Jersey
$759,000 NY Penalty

George of Elmsford NY (10/06/08)
I received a call from Nationwide Credit Inc., stating that I owe money to the company, Terminix. I admit that I had an one year contract with Terminix pest control company. A month or two before the contract expires a lady from the company called at my home to renew the contract; I told her that I am not interested in renewing the contract and requested to cancel my contract. Maybe she did not do her job as a responsible Terminix employee; now I am liable to pay for a Terminix employee's irresposibility.

My wife and I are working in the morning and we are home only after 3:30pm. Terminix never made any appointments with us in the claiming period and I wonder how they got in my house or on my property without our presence or consent. I am paying the bill right now to the Nationwide Credit Inc.to avoid their harrassment and the effect it would have on my credit.

I have no other choice but contact consumer affairs department, which helped me in the past to solve my problems. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my past requests. I request you to look into this matter and take necessary steps to solve this problem and help me to get my money back.

A Terminix sales representative convinced us to purchase a Termite Service Plan based on termite activity he found in a clapboard on the back exterior wall of our garage. My wife and I stupidly signed the agreement, agreeing to a 1600 initial treatment and annual service at an additional cost of 175 per year. I say stupidly because we didn't read the fine print which states that the Service Plan only covers subterranean termites and DOES NOT control or protect against aerial (above ground) infestation of any kind -- the very kind of infestation that he used to convince us we needed protection.

What a rip-off! Please beware of this company's highly suspect sales tactics. Thank goodness we didn't agree to the 1900 Protection Plan -- basically insurance to cover damage caused by those subterreanean termites. To what? What portion of my home is subterranean?

WOW, these stories are very familiar to the experience I just had with Terminix (a service master company). Terrible contractors, never calling back, refusing to refund , taking weeks to do come for a service call. I will never do business with a servicemaster company again. I can't believe that my mortgage company (Wells Fargo) is tele-marketing for them. I bypassed the company and went straight to ServiceMaster and chatted with a person there and thats how I got my money back.

Deborah of Mentone, AL August 19, 2008

Deborah of Mentone AL (08/19/08)
About a month ago we were invaded by hornets (I believe them to be European Hornets). There is a large hive built in the ceiling space over the mud room and their entrance is above our back door. I discovered them when letting our little Terrier out to do his business around 4a.m. When I turned the outside flood lights on the sky above me began to buzz loudly and I saw hornets were attacking the lights. My little guy was stung on his foot and he won't go out now without the escort of his master. Several calls were made in an attempt to locate an exterminator to take care of this problem. Few companies in our area will treat bees (or anything in that class of insect).

Terminex agreed to treat for 150 and a month contract (we have our termite and routine service with Cook's). During the early afternoon a young man arrived from Terminex to treat the hive. He was shocked at how large it appeared to be and I'm not sure that he had much experience with any type of bee. All he seemed to do was make the hornets angry. A week later we still had hornets! Yet another call was placed and the same young man returned in the middle of the day. Same thing: sprayed a couple of cans of wintergreen smelling fluid at the hornets flying around and then left.

he second week I decided to speak with a customer service manager to try and find some resolution to my problem. The operator took a message and I cancelled my plans for the day and waited for the return call. It never came. I called back and was told the service manager is on a conference call with area managers, but will return the call. I asked if he was going to return my call when he gets off of the conference call? I was answered with, Well, it just depends when he gets off of the conference call. This infuriated me!

Well, this is 4 days and many phone calls later and still no call. My month contract will expire in a few days and I suspect that I won't hear from them until that time. My life has been in a holding pattern waiting to talk to someone and my patience is depleted.

I am having to walk my little dog on a leash at all hours. This means that I must get up 30 minutes early (at 3:30 a.m.) and walk him in the dark. If I turn on lights or use a flashlight, hornets come buzzing. Hornets are getting into my home and have I am terrified of them! Once in I have to chase them down and try to kill them before they sting one of us. I am in the process of organizing a large event in my town which requires some travel and errands and all of that has been put on hold. The frustration is just making me angry and shooting my BP & HR up...I don't even want to know what it is, because I hate to increase my meds.

Edward of Woodbridge, VA August 7, 2008

Edward of Woodbridge VA (08/07/08)
It took me 2 weeks to clear my calander for a Terminix inspector to come to my house. Even though I was still losing money for not being at work, I scheduled for 8/7/08 between 8am and 10am. At 10:30am no inspector, or call. I called the Woodbridge, VA office who I made the appointment with and they said an inspector would call me back.

I missed more work waiting until after noon and still no call. I called back and was told there would be no inspection, and an inspector would call for another appointment. Well, you guessed it, no call. I called the corp. office for Terminix, and they just wanted to know if I'd like to schedule another appointment. I don't think so! I'm affraid the work they do might be as shoddy as the way the company is run.

I missed over 5 hours of work with nobody from the company calling me about them not showing up. That means I did not get paid for over 5 hours today.
