I purchased a refrigerator from Kmart (they sale Sears appliances)on 3/7/09. I placed the rebate in the mailbox on 3/9/09. I should have received a 75 rebate after 60 days. Whenever I call to check on the status of the rebate I get different time frames on when I should receive the rebate. On 5/17/09 I was told 10 to 14 business days.

On 6/3/09 I was told that it was mailed on 5/5/09 and they would re-issue in 21 business days. On 6/25/09 I was told that I would receive the rebate in 30 days from 6/3/09. On 7/16/09 I still have not received the rebate and I will be calling back today to check on the status. In the month of May,I even chatted on line for a while with a representative and was told eventually that he could not help me.

Buy your appliances at Lowes or Home Depot!! I knew this and actually "inherited" the 2 year old dishwasher and refrigerator. These models aren't the low end either...they are the top of the line as purchased by the former owners of our "new" house. The fridge has the 3 year extended warranty, good for me? NO! Actually, it doesn't make a difference, as the freezer fan went out on Tuesday pm 7-7-09. We had JUST bought 177.00 worth of groceries earlier that day and have 4 small children who love their cold milk. Anyway, I called the Sears repair center early Weds. morning and the operator told me that it would be Saturday before a professional Sears technician could out to our home to fix the problem. She was nice and courteous, even asking how many children we had and explaining that we would be reimbursed up to 250.00/yr. for the loss of food and that we had to keep the spoiled food out for the tech to see.

Well, my husband even told me to explain to her that it was the freezer fan and that the tech would probably need to know that...I told her and she assured me that it would be taken care of. So, Saturday rolls around, (keep in mind that the repair guy could show up anywhere between 8am-5pm...so our whole day was pretty much stuck around the house). The tech calls me around 10:30 am while I am out gathering COLD drinks and ice and tells me that he should arrive within an hour to repair our fridge. I was giddy, so excited that I could go buy milk and have ice for our drinks. My hubby was at home waiting for the repair guy.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I arrived home at noon, the repair guy was already gone...FRIDGE STILL BROKEN! Turns out YES the freezer fan WAS INDEED BROKEN, as my engineer husband stated, turns out that the "professional" repair man has to order the fan and it will arrive on Tuesday 7-15-09. So here I am on Sunday, still no cold milk or yogurt, my kids are frustrated and whining. I've got a huge pile of spoiled food sitting in a box in the corner...what a waste, (we don't waste food at my house)!!!! I've always known that Sears talks big promises and doesn't deliver. They may have their stuff together on the marketing and advertising end, but when it comes down to the customer, and retail level....the service is MUCH to be desired.

We purchased new model 253.52649303 Kenmore side by side in August 2003. After 6 years of use the compressor has failed. I called customer service and was not scheduled for service for 8 days to check the problem. After the service check it was properly diagnosed of the compressor failure 8 days earlier. When I asked for them to have a compressor to send with the tech. they informed me that the service call had to take place first and then if a compressor was needed it would be ordered. The service tech said this is normal problem with the compressors that Kenmore had built in Brazil.

If it is a problem with the compressor construction, the compressor and the installation should both be covered by the warranty of the compressor. No it is costing 1/3 the price of a new unit. I would not recommend Kenmore products to any one I know.

Called sears on a Mon. to come take a look at my refrigerator because the fan was constantly on. The frig. was working perfectly, it was just the fan. A repair/cleaning service person come on Friday. He cleaned out the bottom, told me that my ice maker was broken and needed to order a part. That was fine for me. I few hours later I noticed everything in the freezer was thawing out and the frig. part was very warm. So, I called Sears to tell them that the service person they sent broke my frig. The next appointment I could get was Wed. Five days after their service person broke my frig. I have called everyday to see if someone would take responsibility for their actions and no one has. The only thing they have said is that if I take pictures of all the food I lot I could get UP TO a 250 check. I lot more than that, I was having a birthday party for my sons on Saturday.

I bought a new GE side by side refrigerator in Aug 2007 for my new house for approx. 1200 (Model #GSL25JFTABS) from Sears. I started noticing a few weeks ago (June 2009) that I had to keep turning the temp control up higher to keep the foods cold in both the fridge and freezer. By this past weekend, things were seriously getting warmer and melting.

I called Sears who tried to bail out on me for my scheduled appt. I had to yell and scream at about 6 people to get someone to actually come the day they promised. Long story short, they claim it is the motherboard gone bad and will cost me about 430 to repair. They did not have the part and need to order it, which will take about a week.

I cannot afford this AT ALL and am devastated that my not even 2 year old fridge is so defective. My mothers fridge has lasted her almost 30 years and she has never had to call a repair person! Not sure if GE has any liability for this, trying to check into it.

HEMANT of ACWORTH, GA July 5, 2009

I purchased model-GSS25LGMFWW GE 25 cufeet refrigerator and al of a sudden last night on 3rd July 2009 compressor quit working as i noticed everything melted in freezer unit and being a long weekend i will not be getting any help neither from GE nor Sears (as i purchased from Sears) and i don't have any warranty on the unit. i had to dispose all the frozen food from the freezer as well as fridge.

why would someone spend 12-1300 bucks for the appliance which won't last but few years. look like this is the common issue with GE refrigerator.

Joyce of Highland, CA June 24, 2009

I purchased a 25cf side-by-side Kenmore refrigerator in December 2007 (1.5 years ago) Today, 6/24/09 I paid 323 to repair the ice dispenser. The ice dispenser motor had burned up. The ice storage container is in the door. I asked the repairman why the ice dispenser motor would burn up in 1.5 years. He said the ice cubes in the storage area melt a bit every time the door is opened. The melted ice runs down into the dispenser and freezes. The dispenser is used and the inadequate motor cannot crush or dispense the solid ice that has formed from the melted ice cubes so it burns up. This is a very poor design. So I am faced with having to replace that motor every 18 months or so at a cost of 323.

I've had Sears refrigerators before for 10 years or so and never had to repair anything. Since it is past the 1 year warranty Sears won't do anything. They have a lemon law that requires 4 repairs on the same item in one year to qualify for replacement. I want Sears to take back their faulty refrigerator, credit my account and let me pick out a refrigerator that will meet my needs and not cost me money for repair bills due to their faulty design. I am very disappointed in this Sears product and Sears reponse.

Sihau of Rosemead, CA June 24, 2009

If I remember correctly, the incident first started on June 3, 2009. Our refrigerator began to malfunction and no longer cool. I had called sears to schedule an appointment for a technician to come and diagnose and fix the problem. We were then told the next technician wouldn’t be available until the week after (June 10, 2009). At this time, the food in the refrigerator had already begun to gone bad and needed to be thrown away. June 10th had arrived and the technician had come out to diagnose and repair the problem. He had replaced one sensor and ordered a new part which was broken during the repair. He told us that the refrigerator was fixed and to give it a few hours for it to begin to cool.

We gave it a whole day and the refrigerator was still the same, so we called again to have a technician come out once again. This time, the technician was available the next day. He had come and replaced the circuit board on June 12, 2009. He told us to give it a 48 hour window for the new board to start working. We gave the time frame and the board was not doing what it was supposed to. Again, we gave sears another call to schedule another appointment…we were then given another week before the technician could come out (June 19, 2009).

June 19th rolls around…and we are at home waiting on the technician, a whole day goes by and no technician, bear in mind that early that morning, we had received a call saying that a technician was scheduled for that afternoon. During the day, we continued to call sears to make sure someone was coming and they told us to rest assured that someone was coming. Five o'clock rolls around and we give up waiting.

We call sears again and they said that we were called to say that the technician was out of the area and needed to reschedule for Tuesday, June 23, 2009. The technician came out and replaces 2 sensors and says to leave the unit unplugged for at least an hour before plugging the fridge into the outlet. We wait an hour and a half to be safe and plug it in, but over the course of 6 hours, the temperature only changes a degree or two. We wait until the next day to check to see if anything had changed.

Unfortunately nothing has changed and we have contacted sears for the fourth time in hopes of a resolution to the problem. Today is June 24, 2009 and the next available date for a technician to come out is Wednesday, July 1, 2009. We have not been able to use our refrigerator for almost a month now. Because of each time the technicians tell us the problem was fixed, we had purchased groceries, but they had all gone to waste and the appliance had failed each time the technician had come out. The value of groceries is well over 200 dollars at least.

Susan of Elkton, MD June 18, 2009

just over 1 year ago, built new home and purchased new Kenmore refrigerator and washer/drier combo. Refrigerator several problems during warranty period and 2 weeks after, completely broke down, losing all food. Washer broke, possibly beyond repair, several weeks past 1 yr. warranty.

Sears offered to "set things right". Their offer was 20% off a new refrigerator - period.

Despite the fact I had purchased a brand new fridge, dishwasher, stove and over hood just a month ago.

I promised them these will be returned and I will do no further business with Sears and don't care to ever see another Kenmore product.

AGATHA of MIDDLETON, TN June 18, 2009

We have a new refrigerator purchased the last day of January and delivered in Febraury we have had 4 service calls but technician only came once. Took a day and one half vacation to be there when they said he would be there and he came once and then other times he said he could not come when we said and then once he just ordered parts like he knew already what was wrong with it. The food in refrigerator is freezing or it is to warm. They refuse to give us a new refrigerator it is less than 5 months old. Food lost from freezing in refrigerator and then some in freezer was also thrown out because the ice cream melted and refroze.
