I started using the device to make mashed potatoes, and it started making weird noises, and then the beaters stopped working. It ruined half a bag of potatoes, and my company complained about the lumpy mashed potatoes. I have never been so embarrassed in my life! I will never purchase another Rival product, and will let everyone know how much they suck **! Rival owes me money, a bag of potatoes, and at least $1,000.00 for the mental suffering, because of the embarrassment they caused me. Some of my dinner guests will never come back! Rival sucks!

I have a tea kettle I've had about a year now, but it won't heat if the kettle is anything but full. When it's half full I have to press on it to make it work. Could you please explain why this is happening? I like it very much because I don't drink coffee. I drink tea. So I'm looking forward to your explanation.

I bought a griddle by rival from Wal-Mart and the very first time I used it, the pancakes stuck like glue and the drip tray fell out and shattered on a linoleum floor. Neither Rival nor Wal-Mart will trade it or replace it. They won't even give me a place to go buy a replacement part.

I have had several crock pots over my 39 years of marriage; however, when lifting the lid of my model number SCVC604, the black plastic hinge broke and pieces of black plastic and a screw fell into my pot roast. I looked on the website to obtain a replacement part and to obtain a new lid. The cost would be almost $20 with shipping and handling. Is it possible to obtain a new hinge that I can put on my lid?

I got the Rival vacuum sealer for Christmas. It worked for about three times. Now, it won't work if you put the bag in the slot. It runs but no lights come on. If I try it without the bag, the lights do come on. I tried everything but no seal or vacuum. My grandson gave it to me before he had to go back to Afghanistan. What to do?

Two nights ago, around 10:00 PM, I put a roast in my crock pot with the needed liquid to cook. I turned it on high. An hour later I turned it on low to cook during the night for the next day's lunch. Around 5:00 AM I smelled something burning. The button on the front of the appliance had melted. The unit was extremely hot. It had burned through two placemats I had set it on. It cracked my granite counter-top. I took it off and set it on some towels to cool. It burned the towels black. The chemicals from the plastic burning made my eyes water and made me cough. I opened every window in my kitchen, turned on the exhaust fan, a ceiling fan and opened two outside doors. It took about 6 hours for the odor to subside and our eyes not to burn. Had I not waked up, I guess there would have been a fire.

Purchased the Model 1060 meat slicer. Lost the blade locking nut. In spite of the Rival website having a "picture," they do not have another blade locking nut. The entire unit is now worthless. If they can't fix such a simple problem, I will never buy another Rival product.

I have a Rival S16G skillet. It's like new. I only used about 8 times. This last time, I used it with the skillet barely above the warm setting and the correct cord. I verified this a couple times because 7 minutes after plugging in it was boiling. I added more water and turned it down to just barely on. We ran into town for about an hour. It over heated. The house was filled with smoke. 3 days later it still smells. Our 2008 counter top underneath is ruined; it was scorched. If we would have delayed by about 20 minutes, we would have come home to a fire.

My countertop microwave died after less than 2 years. Rival was not willing to take responsibility for it. Jarden products denied carrying this product despite that the product information states it is one of their products. Appliance companies have no responsibility or accountability. I will never buy Rival again.

I have a two year old Rival crock pot which we may use 3-4 times a year. We had it on the low setting to keep some meatballs warm. When we lifted the ceramic pot up to serve the food, the entire bottom fell out spilling the food onto the floor and onto my wife's feet. Thank God she had full leather shoes on which protected her from burns.

I purchased a Rival coffee maker (model pilhc09112). Well, on numerous occasions since purchasing this coffee pot, I have received pretty severe burns to my right hand. It claims you can get a cup of coffee from it while still brewing but every time I do that, when I go to return the pot to the maker the filter basket kicks loose and everything in it pours down my right arm. It makes going to work and doing my job very difficult to. I am required to wear glovestaking them off and putting them on over blisters eventually results in the skin coming off making it even worse.
How could y'all possibly be selling something so inferior to the public? I am an avid coffee drinker. I drink it almost around the clock. This is just totally messed up. Thanks a lot for ruining the coffee drinking I once so enjoyed. I'm pretty near close to 2nd and 3rd degree burns to my right hand on numerous occasions in the past few months. I haven't gone to the doctor for it personally. I can't afford it.

I purchased 3 crock pots and two electric skillets from Rival. None of them has lasted more than 2 years. Rival did replace one skillet which, also, only lasted about 2 years.

My daughter purchased a new Rival coffeemaker at Wal-Mart recently and I am typing this complaint with my left hand due to the fact, that the coffeemaker filter cup has yet again popped open and hot coffee grounds have landed on my right hand and burned it to the extent that I have had to apply ice to the burn. It appears that the filter cup is made of a plastic that is not made to lock in place. I have tried to remember to use my thumb when retrieving coffee but it is late in the evening and I forgot. I guess I will have to use duct tape to hold it in place whenever I want to pour a cup of coffee. I am usually not a complainer, but the hot coffee grounds burn like the dickens. Please quality control this coffee filter cup and make changes or you may have a serious injury. Thank you. My home is full of Rival products but this coffeemaker has got to go in the trash in the morning.

The temperature control knob on the electrical cord crack and is falling apart. The model number ZL207.

I have lost the power cord to Rival Model #5750 Rival Crock Grill and have spent several hours in the past month looking thru all the management changes trying to find where I might purchase this Power Cord but with no luck. I can't use the Crock Grill without the power cord. I should be able to purchase a cord to make this work!

I purchased a Rival 12 cup Coffee Maker yesterday from Wal-Mart. I opened the box today and decided to go ahead and clean it so I could make my coffee. I poured the water into the holding tank and turned it on. But, after 20 minutes, it will not do anything. The red light indicating it is on illuminated but that is it. The warming plate does not heat up, it does not release the water or anything. I called Rival in hopes of some troubleshooting methods. After 15 minutes on hold, the "specialist" instructed me to return it to the store where I purchased it. Really?! I waited 15 minutes on hold for that? When I asked about troubleshooting options and requested to speak to someone else, she was very rude.

The "ready" light of my Rival CF151-W Cool Touch Deep Fryer will not turn off, regardless of the selected temperature. I got the unit second hand about 2 years ago from my neighbor. It was working properly until yesterday. It overheated, filled the house with smoke and partly melted the outer case. The lid will no longer stay closed. This is a serious fire hazard if the unit is left unattended.
PS: This website does not explain whether more stars mean better or worse. If they mean worse, they should be stink weeds.

Spring 2011, we received a Crock Pot Model #64451LD-C-NP as a wedding gift. After unpacking it, I noticed a hairline crack on in the crock. I contacted Crock Pot via email. They resolved the problem immediately by sending a replacement crock at no charge. 29 Oct 2011, while at a gathering with family and friends, the lid to my Crock Pot exploded! I was holding it in midair! Nothing was touching it. Glass went everywhere. All over the hostess kitchen as well as the food. (We took photos). Fortunately, the only injury was when I was cleaning it up and had a shard of glass get embedded into my index finger. I did some research online and noticed that there seems to be other people with similar issues. This is how I found this site.
30 Oct 2011, Out of curiosity, I also pulled up a Good Housekeeping product review. "GHRI-tested and recommended slow cookers plus ones we can't recommend" I found that they had recommended some of Crock Pot slow cookers as well as not recommended some of them.

I have the same experience. I bought my SC7 Rival Crockpot last year and the liner is cracked with a hairline crack all across the bottom. We have used it 6 times so I can't imagine how this happened. We do not have a dishwasher and I wash it by hand after each use. I am unable to locate a replacement liner and it seems the only thing we can do is replace the entire unit.

The bottom of the stoneware pot literally fell off with a batch of chili in it. It smashed a Corelle dinner plate that we were placing it on and made quite a mess. I know this model had been recalled for the handles, but this was the stoneware pot itself. Obviously, it had a crack we didn't know about. I am contacting Rivel but from what I'm reading, I can expect no resolution.

My husband bought me a Rival slowcooker 2 years ago and the handles broke. He paid about $60 for the first one. So I took it back to where he purchased it. I got another one, it was a different one. I'm not sure of the model number. Then the handles broke again. Then I contacted Rival. Rival sent me another one, the model number is scvp600. Now the handles are breaking on this one too. I took this one to my daughter's wedding and when my husband picked it up both handles broke. This is a safety hazard. We were just lucky he had somewhere to put it down really fast. I've had it maybe a year and may have used it 5 or 6 times. Thank you for your time.

I literally bought this slow cooker yesterday and it's already broken through no fault of my own. I made a dip last night and halfway through the 3 hour cook time, I heard a very loud pop/click sound followed by several softer clicks. I have never owned a slow cooker before, so I just assumed it was the cooker settling or heating or something.
This morning, I filled the ceramic part full of warm soapy water to help it clean before I scrubbed it. But when I put it in the sink later and turned it over, I noticed a crack that spanned the entire width of the bottom. I was in disbelief that the simple act of putting it in the sink broke it, so I looked at the metal base still on the counter...and it had water in the bottom from where it had dripped from the ceramic bowl. So it broke while it was cooking last night! After only an hour! I am so shocked that this could happen. What a shoddy product. I will never buy Rival again.

On 11/4/2008, I sent all the necessary information with the plug from my rival crock pot base for the recall of crock pot model 5445. As of today, 9/24/2011, I have not received the new base. Almost 3 years of holding my breath, I don't think I can hold it any longer.

Rival 'smart pot' crock pot model #SCVPE503 has four settings (4,6,8 and 10 hours) yet, this crock pot always burns everything! The lid doesn't even lay on the pot properly. There are 1/8" gaps between the lid and the pot in a couple of areas. It's only good for boiling water.

I have a slow cooker, model SCR 509. The glass lid on this crockpot exploded today while in use. It showered glass all over my husband and my kitchen. I have pictures.

We have a Rival "smart pot". Every time we use it, regardless of what setting it is on, condensation collects on the inside of the lid; drips on the ledge that it sets on, then boils out and runs down on to the counter. When we return, there is a lot of liquid all over the counter. What gives with this and how do we correct this?

After reading all the complaints about Rival products, and how they're handled by Rival, I'm even more disturbed. I purchased a model SCVP609TG and one for my nephew's wedding. I cooked a roast in mine, but when I went to wash the removable bowl, it was cracked all the way through. I'm very disturbed, and unless you replace the whole thing, I will NEVER buy another Rival product. Now, I have to call my nephew and his wife and warn them about the slow cooker. If we would make products in this country again, instead of China, a person could buy something that would last. I also realized that it's all about money; this country is going down the tubes because all the fat cats in DC and their GREED. Shape up Rival.

cannot find out who to make a complaint. i have a rival coffee maker and the compartment to put coffee into fell out and burnt my wrist and arm. very bad its been a week and still have not healed. this happened after the coffee maker was finished making coffee. went to get a cup and hot water and coffee grounds just fell onto my arm. never will i buy this or any other product from this company.

Model 38601 had both handles completely break off. The plastic disintegrated and couldn't hold on.

Rival Smart-Pot Crock-Pot model #SCVC550. The lid assembly hinge fractured and shed aluminum/steel hinge pins into the contents of the crock pot. Because the lid is designed to be "removable", the consumer may not realize that these metal pieces (hinge pins) have dropped into the food. These metal hinge pins, if ingested or bitten, can cause potential health risk. Detailed photos are available.

While making Sauerkraut and Pork in the slow cooker, I lifted the lid after three hours of cooking and the handle just came off of the glass lid. Pieces of black plastic fell into the dinner. I was really shocked because I have and I use many Rival products. I had to pick out all of the plastic from the handle and piece it together as best I could to see if any of it were still in the dinner. I did get a small burn from the hot lid as it slid onto the cupboard. All I want is a replacement. Can you do this for me?
Type: SC16 Slow CookerModel: SCV651

About 8 months after purchase, the deep fat fryer model CZF725 burned a hole through the upper front plastic wall of the unit adjacent the heating element, exposing us to electrical/fire hazards. Of course, we don't have a receipt. Clearly, this is a manufacturer's defect but the mega, giant, multinational China supplied corporations are above consumer protection laws because our government officials have all been bought off. We are all doomed and we have ourselves to blame.

Rival 12-cup Coffee Maker # pilhc08104. Burnt hand. I was told Rival would pay for my doctor bill and meds. Kelly said our last couple of phone calls was to get this solved and to where I would not be waiting on check. The last phone call she said they would be sending my check. That was three weeks ago. The mail is not that slow. I have called her back a few times and still no return phone call. I said I would return coffee pot to where they can fix problem. They are supposed to send me a box for it. I am unemployed. I had to use my bill money to go to doctor. Now, I am behind in my bills because of this. I told her this. It is wrong that these big companies get away with this. I will not give up on this. I now have small scars on the back of my hand. Who protects the consumers?

Rival 12-cup Coffee Pot. Basket fell and burnt the whole of left hand.

We purchased a Rival Toaster model number TT9260-WN at Odd Lots, Port Charlotte, FL on Tuesday, January 7, 2010. We have tried unsuccessfully to use the product to toast white and grain bread. Each time we tried (6 times), the smell that emanated from the device was overpowering and the toast procured an almost poisonous taste and had to be discarded. In addition, we had to remove the toaster from inside the house and perform the remaining tests outside, obtaining the same unsatisfactory results. Note: the odor inside the house was finally eradicated after about 3 hours with overhead and exhaust fans running continuously.

My Rival crockpot shorted out, melting the cord and foot. It burned a hole right through my bedroom carpet. We were remodeling the kitchen so I put it in bedroom to get it out of the way. It could have burnt the trailer down! Thank heavens, I have insurance, but of course a $250.00 deductible.

I have a Rival Rock Pot model 50301, mfg. code: 10703. With very little use, the handle broke. It's not under recall. Also, they sent a hand mixer back today, model HM708. It's a piece of crap. It's brand new and the beaters bang and clang against each other. Rival is making Chinese junk, just like all the American corporations who want 'tax cuts' so they can 'put people to work'. What a crock!

I was given a Rival electric skillet, size 16"X12" #S16RW for my birthday in July 2009. It was purchased at Wal-Mart in Brunswick, Ga. I had not opened until we were all together over Thanksgiving of this year and removed it from the box to use. I plugged it in and the indicator light came on but the heating element will not heat up. I took it back to Wal-Mart in the original box with all paperwork and parts included. Wal-Mart advised me that they could do nothing since it was over 90 days old.

I have a Rival crockpot model SCVS601. The whole lid where it locks to the base broke off from the screws. Also, the back part where it connects to the base came apart. This crockpot is not that old and I am terribly disappointed. It was purchased at Wal-Mart in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The type is SC43 slow cooker.

I purchased 2, PIL-HC08104 Rival coffee makers for a small concession stand I was running at my local Wal-Mart. The problems I found were no matter how you pour the coffee it goes everywhere. Also the filter basket is not secure, it comes out when you are using the pause and brew and burns your hands. This has happened more than once so I am thinking maybe a defect in it somehow. I will try and return but beware you get what you pay for maybe good price but not worth it.

I received this crock pot as a gift from my mother-in-law last year because the handle on the lid of my Rival crock pot I had bought the year prior, broke while cooking. Well, my problem is I am about to have this crock pot for about a year in Dec. and the handle on this lid broke tonight while cooking a roast and I almost burnt myself.
I know of 10 other people that have had this same brand of crock pot including my mother-in-law have not had a problem with the side handles or anything else, just the lid handles breaking. I would be much obliged if you guys could send me a new lid handle for my crock pot. I love the crock pot. It works great. It is just the second crock pot in 2 years and the same thing keeps breaking as well as the other people I know as well. The plastic just breaks off the screw on the lid when you got to lift it off the pot.

I just bought a new Rival Coffeemaker about a month ago. I went to use the coffeemaker today and it would not work. It would not begin to brew. There has not been any damage done by me or anyone in my household.

I bought a Rival S16RB Electric Skillet. After a couple of uses, the Teflon coating began to bubble off. It looks as if acid was poured on it and ate it way. It gets worse with each use. The proper utensils are being used and heat setting at 350 degrees is the highest I've used. It looks so bad I don't know if I should be preparing food in it. Is this a common complaint? I really would like it to be replaced!

I have had this crock-pot for 3 years now and every time I have used it, the food is burned. It doesn't matter if I use the 4, 6, 8 or 10-hour setting, the result is always the same. This product has ruined more dinners than I would like to count. I can't leave it because it is a fire-hazard. The product is worthless.

When using 6qt. slow cooker, it has 2 hot spots on either side of the cooker. These spots burn whatever is being cooked, which ultimately makes this product useless for the purpose of slow cooking.

We have a Rival Crock pot Model # SCVP809. My husband lifted the handle on Friday and the lid separated from the handle and crashed into the sink. The plastic holding the metal nut on the inside had cracked and separated causing this to happen. The crock pot has only been used a half a dozen times. Is there a replacement lid that will not break or is the whole unit useless? Useless piece of kitchen equipment that cost $ 40.00 new.

I bought a Rival Crock Pot. I have pictures that I'd like to send someone if you can provide me an address. The handles were plastic, got hot and cracked and fell off, leaving just the metal part which gets extremely hot. The lid also had the same plastic on it and when I cooked in it last week, I went to pick up the lid and the handle fell off and was broken, not being able to put it back on. I am very disappointed and consider this crack pot a dangerous crock pot and it needs to be recalled. It is not one of the ones shown below and I just purchased it this year. The metal on the handles get extremely hot since the plastic handles burned off. The lid on the top broke off and the glass could have broken. It cannot be used at all now.

I have a hand held mixer. I used it twice. The second time I used it, it made grinding noise. The beaters literally flew off and the mixer split in half. Although this mixer was inexpensive, I was making a dish for my assignment for cooking school. Luckily, I was able to finish this receipt by hand.

I've got a Rival crock pot and the model number is 37401.
Last night, I was cooking some turkey wing parts. Instead of slow cooking overnight, they boiled and were done in about 3 hours. I had it set on low, as I always do. If I hadn't smelled the turkey, I would never had known there was a problem.
This is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with. It could lead to a fire by boiling out the liquid if left cooking on the regular amount of time. I have had Rival products for years, and never had one malfunction. Please advise me on this major issue.

At first it was great. Put supper in and it was ready to eat after work. Then it happened. About 6 months to a year, no matter what setting you put, the smart pot on the food was burned to a crisp. I am thinking this "smart pot" should be on the recall as well as the others that do the same thing. I am so glad it didn't catch on fire. I happen to be in the market for a new crock pot and am pretty sure it won't be a Rival. I might add the handles are still as sturdy as when it was brought home.

When purchasing your Rival hand held mixer, the gentleman behind me said that his had broke after only two uses. I was sure that mine would be better. It wasn't. It caught on fire after only a couple of uses. The first uses were for mashed potatoes, the last for mixing frosting. I will no longer purchase any of your products. When the mixer was being used for the mixing of frosting, it caught on fire and burned two of my 42-year old son's fingers. This is totally unacceptable for any product. I will no longer purchase any of your products.

I have made a few post about Rival 12 cup coffee maker. I received a letter from claims saying someone from China would contact me within 10 days. Nothing yet. I called the number. He was not at desk. I see on this site that there are three other people have been burnt by this coffee pot. I am unemployed. I needed the money I paid to my doctor. I could not afford. How can we fight Wal-Mart and Rival? Maybe we need to do it together.

Crock Pot # SCV603-Sb, handle broke off spilling contents, lid fell to the ground and broke. Rival customer service has given me the biggest run around attitude of customer service, ask me how I broke the handle? And how many times I used the Crock pot . Offered me the option to purchase a replacement lid. I explained that the handle simply broke off, I did nothing to the unit itself.
Now customer service says they cannot find my original complaint. And now accused me of never filling a complaint. I think the company should look into their customer service representatives. I filed a complaint, with concerns of a safety issue complaint. As of today, still no response. I purchased this Crock pot thru CostCo. Can you help?

Rival or Wal-Mart just don't care. My right wrist had to be fused. My right wrist does not bend since my left hand has been sore. I have made my right arm sore since I had to use it more. They are stilling selling coffee pots. I feel sorry for the next person. I end up with sores on the back of my hand. This is wrong.

I purchased a Rival 4 quart ice cream maker on the latter part of June 2010. I was very happy with the item as I have been in recent past with other Rival products that I have purchased. I had used the item several times according to recipes and manufacturer's instructions. This machine strangely developed 3 pin holes in the aluminum cylinder! I found that out the 3rd time and it ruined my ice cream mixer by adding the rock salt and external water! I will remain a customer, but I'm very disappointed!

I have bought 2 seal meals. 1 I had for 6 months and quit working while the second one I had for 2 months and the same thing, it quit working. The product is junk and I would not recommend this product to anyone ever. There is no number to contact the company anywhere. So who do I tell?

I purchased a Rival 6 quart crockpot from Costco a bit over a year ago. Today, upon using the crockpot, when I raised the lid off, the black grip handle separated from the glass, falling and splashing me with the very hot contents of the food being cooked. The splashes got me in the face and I burned by wrist. My husband then shut it off, that's when the black side of the pot handle broke into several pieces exposing the very hot metal underneath, and he scalded his fingers! My pot SCV603-SB does not appear to be under the recall. I need answers ASAP.

I bought a 12 cup coffee maker in June, Pilhc08104. On August 29, I went to make a cup of coffee. When I removed the pot, the basket fell. And the coffee grounds and water poured onto my left hand. The whole back of my left hand is burnt and has blisters. I had my two granddaughters that morning. I thank God they were not standing next to me or they would have been burnt. I called Rival and the guy that took my info gave me a number to give to Wal-Mart when I returned the coffee, and Wal-Mart would pay for my doctor. I called Wal-Mart and they said they were not responsible for Rival products, and they did not know what he was talking about.
I called Rival back and the woman I talked to was nice. She tried to help. She told me Wal-Mart had the paperwork for me to fill out and they would send in. I went to Wal-Mart and the girl said she did not know what they were talking about. Then, she started asking why I have not brought it back. I told her I did not keep the receipt and she said that was no problem. She was wrong on that. I have shopped at this Wal-Mart for 15 years. The manager at Wal-Mart said they had nothing to do with products they sell. How come there name is on the bottom of the coffee pot with Rival?

I have a Rival Slow Cooker. It functions fine, but the construction or design is impractical and dangerous. First thing, it has a hinged lid which when opening, has a great risk for steam burns. The main problem is the hinge itself, even when handled very carefully, breaks within the first few months. I've had about 4 lids and twice, the hinge pieces have fallen into my dinner in the crock pot before I even touched it. They're very small pieces that go into your meal, which makes it less conspicuous. I've requested an entire new crock pot, but I just keep getting another faulty lid.

I have a Crock Pot/ smart pot 38501W that constantly overheats on the low setting to a degree that I'm afraid to leave it alone since it could become a fire hazard.

My model s11p skillet or TKSP-Soo5A-15 temperature knob where the electric goes into the skillet broke. The inside control works but I don't want to turn it with my fingers while plugged in. I would like a replacement part. It was given to me as a gift. The part cracked. I would appreciate if you can replace the part. Thank you.

I purchased a Rival 12 cup coffee maker, PIL-HC08104 and have been burned by it several times. First the caraffe's lip does not allow the flow of the coffee to be poured in a safe manner as when you pour from it, it overflows, no matter how you hold the pot. In addition, the top of the basket get so hot, that I blistered my finger when I wiped off the top of it. The burn unit is also weak in that it does not retain the heat of the coffee for the duration of drinking a full pot. I have been burned 4 times from this coffee maker despite taking steps to prevent it - pouring the coffee over the sink, raising the lid to pour the coffee form the caraffe as well as other steps. There seems to be flaws in the design of this particular coffee maker, which I purchased from my local WalMart store. I cannot afford to buy a new coffeemaker.

I've owned this Rival 5qt. black oval Smartpot with hinged lid, model SCVPS600, for about 3 or 4 year. However, it was used maybe once or twice a year. While washing it last November, the hinge which attached to the lid cracked, making the hinge part unusable. I called Rival Customer Service and was told that since the item had passed it's warranty period, there was nothing they could do. I asked if I could purchase a new lid, even one from a similarly-shaped crock pot (my mother owns a Smartpot that is not hinged, her lid works beautifully) but was told no because the lid did not belong to that model.
The crock pot was still functioning well, which is a wonder judging by all of the complaints that I've seen. I would just place the lid on and off, being careful not to let it splash in the food. However, in May, the plastic parts on the lid completely broke off & is now not usable at all. I called Rival Customer Service again and again was told there was nothing they could do and that there was no lid they could sell me. However, they could give me 15% off of a new Crock Pot, which was $70.00 plus $8 to $10 shipping and handling. I could buy the same Crock Pot in the store for $40 to $50. I really felt that they were trying to play on my predicament and felt insulted.
Where is their responsibility to both the customer, not to mention the environment? Why should I put a perfectly functioning crock pot in the landfill when all it needs is a new lid, especially when it was used maybe only 6 to 7 times? I am very unhappy with this company, even though I have always liked their product. I will be sure to pass this on to everyone that I know, which is quite a number! Thanks.

On two separate instances, we have used the Crock-Pot on the 10 hour mode to find our meal burnt to a crisp. The last episode was on Father's Day. We were slowly marinating a roast in BBQ sauce for our evening meal with my inlaws. We had cooked the roast overnight in another Crock-Pot, but needed that sized Crock-Pot for another item we were taking to my family's Father's Day celebration, so I transfered the tenderized, cooked meat and broth and BBQ sauce to the model 38501 and put it on the 10 hour mode.
When we came home from church about 3 hours later, the roast was burnt. There was plenty of liquid, as I had left plenty so it could have enough to absorb. About half of the meat was too burnt to be served. The rest had an overdone taste to it. Since this was the second instance of something on the 10 hour mode being ruined, it made me wonder if others had experience this as well. It would be extremely nice to have a 10 hour selection on a Crock Pot and not have to worry whether or not it worked or if our meal would be charred when we return home from work. Have any other people experienced a similiar situation with this Crock-Pot Model?

I bought the 12-cup Rival Coffee maker at WalMart. After following all instructions, I brewed my coffee. When I removed the pot to pour a cup, the basket popped off, and the hot grounds and some water popped burned my right wrist! It's really hard to get that basket to stay in place, even when you hold it. Serious burn risk! Burn to my right wrist. Oh my after reading I see this was not just me that has had this happen. I also took pictures of my burn. Burns almost that look as if I will lose my skin soon. The pain of the burn was indescrible.

We purchased a new Rival Toastadora yesterday...read the box and it said that the sides of the toaster would get hot! We understand this metal being heated up. BUT what they don't tell you is that this toaster is HOT for 6-8 inches from the toaster. Should someone not test this heat factor someone could fesable burn MANY things with the slice of bread mearly being toasted..Did I say HOT for at least 6" around the toaster while on! Not a good idea. Needless to say we immediately took it back however. These are still on the shelves of our local Walmart to purchase and burn someone else...please check into this matter before someone gets badly burned. We are sure it would be a 3rd degree burn no matter when you touched it. During or after toasting. Thanks

I purchased a Rival electric skillet (model S16RW) when my old one finally died. I have used lots of Rival products in the past and have been very satisfied. I paid a little more for this skillet because I use them frequently. The skillet never gets to 350 degrees and the hot spots are uneven. It takes forever to cook anything in the skillet. Just want Rival to know how disappointed I am with this product.

I have the Rival Smart-Pot Crock Pot. It is the red one that has settings by hours and the "warmer" setting. I've had it a couple years and seldom used it because it always burned the food. It had to be watched, even at the lowest setting, not like any other crock pot I have ever used. Last night, I used it to cook dinner. I left the food in the crock and served from it. After dinner, I lifted the pot out to clean it. To my amazement, the entire bottom of the ceramic crock was still in the cooker when I lifted up the crock. The bottom was separated from the rest of the crock; hard to explain. It would have been funny if I had not been worried about how much ceramic splinters my family might have ingested. Believe me, I will never buy another Rival product again.

I bought the coffee pot at Wal-Mart. I brought it home. Cleaned it for the first use. Made a pot of coffee as I always do before work the next morning. I put the filter in the basket. I put the coffee in the filter. Placed it in the holding area for the basket. Poured the water into the back of the coffee maker where it is designed to go. Pushed the on button. In the middle of the brewing cycle, I decided to get a cup of coffee. The coffee maker is suppose to be designed for pause and serve.
I pulled the coffee pot out of the brewing area. Made my coffee as always. Tried to put the pot back on the burner. When I did, the filter basket with all the hot grounds and water went all over my hand. I immediately rinsed my burning hand in cold water to try to relieve the burn. It turned horribly red and swelled. I work as a manager at a fast food restaurant and every time my hand was around heat or I had to use it for anything, it caused lots of pain. As it is, I have no insurance so I just had to suffer through it.
I was not as productive at my job as I normally am. So not only did I pay the price, my job suffered also. Very bad burn, no permanent damage though. Swelling and a felling of being an idiot for trusting this company. Just imagine if my five year old had actually got close to me when this happened.

I bought a Rival Coffee Maker (model # PIL-HC08104) this past Friday from Walmart and I didn't use it till the next night. But I had read the manual instructions and then I began to start the normal process to make coffee like any other coffeemaker. I had done everything that I was supposed to do, and in the middle of the coffee making, I decided I wanted to pour me a cup.
I took the coffee pot off the burner, poured the cup of coffee and I went to put the coffee pot back onto the burner and when I did, the thing that holds the coffee grounds and coffee filter literally popped off and poured all over my hands. The thing that holds the filter and coffee grounds is located right in front of the coffee pot which is right where my hand was and there were 6 cups that was inside of the coffee pot and the coffeemaker holds 12 cups altogether so the other six went onto my hand. It was a lot of boiling water and coffee grounds that went onto my hand.
I washed off what I could of the coffee grounds and applied an icepack to my hand. I sat at home for 2 hours crying with the burn until I couldn't take the pain anymore. So I got my aunt to take me to the ER at 2 am. I got there and they went through the exam and my blood pressure was higher than it was normally and so was my pulse and they said it was a sign of in pain. The doctor came in and said that I had a first degree burn and they gave me ice for the mean time until they could get my medicine (Silvedene) to the ER. They picked a few of the coffee grounds out of my pores because it had singed my hair off partially of my hand and melted some of my fingernail polish off. And they got tweezers and painfully removed the coffee grounds.
After about 30 minutes of that, I got the silvedene applied to my hand and they told me to follow up with my doctor and I have not yet gotten an appointment because I am not on good terms with my insurance right now. I went home and to this day, I still have to apply the cream to my hand although it has gotten somewhat better. The next say, I took the coffee maker to the same Walmart that I had bought it from and they called the main manager and she had me meet her in the back of Walmart. She had me fill out this form and I showed her my hand and she asked me to demonstrate what had happened. I then began to reenact what had happened and I took the coffee pot off the burner and then I put the coffee pot back onto the burner and when I did, the same thing happened. The coffee filter and coffee grounds holder just simply popped off. And she looked at me and she said, "Wow, that is nuts! That is so crazy. They need to recall this coffee maker." And her employee that was standing there said. "Yeah, they really should." And they gave me back my $9.99, had me to fill out the other form and my husband and I left Walmart.
And, the next morning this lady had called me asking me questions about it and she said she would take my complaint and claim and I had no idea what she was talking about. When I called her back over 15 times in the past 2 days, she has yet to call me back. But that is pretty much what had happened.

I was given a new Crockpot last Christmas. It has a black crock insert with a brushed silver aluminum exterior holder. It is a 4 quart size. I have used it a few times and find that when I use the high setting, the food burns to the sides of the crock and has caused a white mark along one side of the inside of the crock which cannot be removed.
It cooks nicely, but I am disappointed with this condition. Also, moisture accumulates under the handle of the top where it is screwed to the lid. How can this be corrected? Can anything be done about this situation? I have had three Crock pots in the past and been satisfied with their performance. I would appreciate a response. If a phone number for Rival is available, please email to me so I may contact the company directly. Thanks.

I have used crock pots for at least 35 years. My older ones broke, so I bought the red crock pot, that said you could cook 5 pounds of roasts in it. So, I thought, this would be great. Well, I have used it quite a few times, and it always burns the food. If I put food in on high to heat, it burns. Slow also burns the food. I am really getting tired of this, and probably will not use it again, and will not purchase another Rival Crock Pot.
I don't like the results. I have always liked cooking with slower cookers, and never had anything burned. I would be afraid to leave this crock pot plugged in, if I am not home. I just tried heating up meat on low for 2 hours, and it burnt the meat. Is this usual? I just wanted a crock pot that cooked, and did not burn my food. I haven't gotten it with this Rival Crock Pot.

As I picked up the crock pot lid handle, the lid fell back down onto pot SCV552 Rival Crock pot. Fortunately, no one was hurt. We just want one that we can use and depend on safely.

I have always used rival product for as long as I can remember. I'm now 48 years old and I loved them. Usually I would break a part or do something I was responsible for and have to purchase a new product, but this time I'm innocent. Yesterday I put on a roast and left to go do errands. My crock turns off automatic so I have peace of mind knowing when I return home my home won't be burned to the ground.
It has a warmer setting it goes into which I love, but my problem is and was when I went to open my crock pot, the plastic knob had melted around the screw and as I lifted the very hot lid, it plopped back to the crock and splattered hot residue from roast all over me. Luckily, it fell just right and the glass lid did not shatter.

I had a Rival oval crockpot. Yesterday it was filled with mac and cheese. A friend picked it up by the handles to move it to another table. Both handles broke off. The steaming hot crock pot crashed to the floor, spilling the hot food and breaking the liner into splinters. I am just thankful no one was hurt.

I have a complaint about my Rival Crockpot Slow cooker, model SCV801 or SCV001 (I can't tell for sure because the lettering is rubbed off). This is the third Rival Crockpot of this model that I have had experience with and they were all bad. The first one I purchased boiled the food on either high or low settings and the handle on the lid broke, after just a couple of usage. I called Rival and they replaced the entire Crockpot at no charge but it was the same problem. It never went to a lower temperature and the food would always boil instead of cooking slow like it should have. I finally gave it away.
Later, I received the same model as a gift and decided that maybe I should try the newer model. It still did not cook slowly as it should have and this time not only did the lid handle break but one of the side handles have come loose. Don't let the good looks fool you because this is one of the cheapest made products I have ever owned in my 53 years of marriage I will never purchase another Rival product!

I was given a rival oval crackpot slow cooker. I only used it a short time and was washing it and found a crack on the bottom. I called the company and they sent me a new one. Well, use it a lot and now I have a crack in this one. I don't know if I want another one or not, but I want a new one.

There is a recall on certain Rival Slow Cookers. I find that my cooker is not included in that recall. While the cooker and the base serves me well, the top handled melted, coming loose from the top. I would simply like a replacement or let the company know what has happened and know if that is safe and if the product should be recalled. The model number is SCV401.

The handle on my Rival Slow Cooker broke. All I want to do is just order a new handle. That's when I read about the recall. However, my model is not involved in the recall. I just want a new handle. However, I had noticed a problem with the handle. Moisture would gather in the space between the handle base and the crock pot lid, in the spot around the connection to the lid. The contact wasn't air tight. The moisture was sometimes from the cooking steam, which led me to believe that bacteria could gather in the lid handle contact area. Once I unscrewed the handle to clean out the area. I just want a new handle

The first time I used the above crock-pot (never used although I had for a few years), the lid handle came off and the lid crashed into the sink as I was washing. Is there a phone number for Rival? What can I do?

I bought the Rivel Oval Crock-pot slow cooker #5070VG. It gets so hot on low, high or even warm. It just keeps getting hotter no matter where we turn the controls. I can't leave it to cook without watching because it burns the food.

I used crock pot #1 for 17 years; it's great. I purchased a larger one (crock pot #2) when the first one gave out--the side and lid handles broke off, and I could not find replacement parts. With crock pot #3, I heard a "pop" after the 3rd use. It would not heat, so it's replaced with crock pot #4 with which food boiled on low and high settings. It was replaced with crock pot #5 which also boiled food on low and high settings.
I replaced with crock pot #5 and had the same experience--food boils on low setting. This is my last crock pot. 1st one lasted 17 years. and the last 4 have not made it through 6 months of use! There used to be no other crock better than a Rival crock pot. it is the worst product on the crock pot market today.
Food scorched within an 8-hour period on low setting, because it boiled to nothing. And the ceramic pot cracked, because food burned due to boiling away liquid in an 8-hour period. The hot food was tossed all over the kitchen and me when the handles broke off. Rival has burned a hole in my pocket and their reputation with their faulty products.

I have three complaints about Rival: 1) It is impossible to get through to them directly; 2) The accessories for their product are apparently unavailable; and 3) The newer products are now made in China, and they have numerous issues. I was trying to find a replacement bake liner for an existing crock pot but, these liners have apparently disappeared off the face of the Earth. It is impossible to get any info at all out of Rival. Getting in touch with Rival is a nightmare - they do not supply a direct email address, just a form which limits you to 500 characters, and which they never answer. Meantime, I had purchased several new Crockpots and found that they are nothing like the original product - they overheat, in two cases the ceramic liner cracked completely.
I was finally able to talk to a "real person" at the 800 number after waiting on hold for 3/4 of an hour - to her credit - she arranged to send me a replacement unit for the cracked one, but she had no answer about the over heating issue nor could she tell me anything about the bake liners and trivets for roasting. After reading through the complaints here, my problems were pretty trivial in comparison, but none the less I am really irritated since in this time of trying to conserve, Crockpots are no longer particularly low temp cookers.
One might as well be using the conventional oven. In the one case the ceramic liner cracked completely, fortunately I noticed before a real catastrophe occurred. The overheating problem means that these newer crocks cannot be safely left for very long, unattended, which means they are no longer really slow cookers. The lack of proper accessories (i.e. baking liner and meat roasting trivets) means that I cannot properly use my new crocks for full crockpot cooking usage so from that standpoint, my money has been completely wasted.

My crock pot is 2-3 years old and I do use it a lot. I love it, as it is the 7-qt size. Nice for a large family. However, yesterday when I plugged it in, it popped and sparked and smoked, stained the counter and when I looked at the base of the plug, it had cracked and broken the copper wires and rubber. My husband said that due to the design of the cord being at the bottom and being constantly bent, it weakened.

I cooked my chili and placed it in the refrigerator overnight, then started to warm it up and the crackpot broke. It was the Oval 6.5-quart pot. There is nothing in the instructions that say this can't be done. I would like the glass pot replaced. I have had it several years and just now started using it.

After cooking a pot roast, I turned it off and went to bed. About an hour later, I heard a noise in the kitchen. When I went to see what the noise was, I discovered that the glass lid on the slow cooker had blown up and shattered all over the kitchen. I have never experienced anything like this and am thankful that no one was around when it exploded. I have pictures of it and will send them if you give me an email address. I couldn't find an email address for the Rival Company.

I was given a Rival Slow Cooker model DHP2503. The handle on the lid of this slow cooker heated up as much as the inside. I used this to prepare a meal for a party and was extremely grateful that one of the kids did not try to open it first. The handle was scalding. This slow cooker is trash

I haave a Rival 2275 WP grinder and the ring collar broke. I can't find where to contact Rival so I can order a new one. I see on the internet that there are several people looking for the same thing.

I have a Rival crockpot (it came with a "little dipper" with a really cheap lid, but that still works fine). I have had it for a year, and probably used it 10-20 times. I love it! However, the stoneware liner cracked, and now, it's black (totally gross, something must have gotten in it). It's totally useless now, and after reading the other reviews, I'm glad it didn't crack and totally break altogether. Haven't heard back from the company yet, but I can't find any replacement liner anywhere...I'm angry I have to buy a whole new slow cooker!

damage within 6 mo of new crockpot; handle to cover came off By one yr, glued piece came off again. two handles have come off leaving wire which moves making pickup unsafe. Can't get in touch with Rival?

I can't find a place on the Rival web site to make a complaint directly to them. I bought a pretty expensive electric skillet (about $65.00) from a local dept. store, thinking that investing in a better quality skillet would mean a better quality skillet. BIG mistake. This is awful, and there is no place on the skillet that registers when the temperature is reached. Anway, can you or anyone give me a way to contact them?

I have crock pot given to me as gift about a year ago I only used it a few times. Model 37601 Rival Stoneware slow cooker. The plastic on the lid melted as well as the handles on the side of the pot. The pot got so hot you could not touch it at all.

I went online to try and find a place where I could get a replacement lid for my Rival crockpot model # 3040. The plastic handle on the glass lid cracked and came off. I love this crock pot and am sad to see that this is a common situation for many people. This is the second one I have owned and for the same reason I replaced the first one. I was trying to save some money by just replacing the lid, instead of the whole unit. Now I am not sure what I will do. I think I may research another brand. I don't want to go through this again.

my cooker was recalled for a possible handle breakage it was not broke I sent it back like they said anyway the one they replaced it with model#64451 the handle did break after a few uses and thanks to that my hand was burnt I put cooker on shelf an really didn't think about it till I was going thru some stuff this past week.I would like to know if this one can be replaced because I liked using it but I really don't want to purchase another one to break also.I can't seem to find anyway to contact Rival other than this without paying money I do not have

One unhappy customer.

The lid to my rival slow cooker #SCVP609H is defective. The plastic parts crack and break due to the heat. These plastic pieces are attached by screws and i had to discard the product due to metal in the food. Since then more plastic continues to crack.

i got a used rival crock pot model number 3350/2 i'm sure it is old but looked in good shape and i cooked in it and 8 hours later when i was getting food out i touched the side and got the crap shocked out of me,,there are no signs of broken wires or aNY SIGNS OF IT BEING TAMPERED WITH,,

I am looking to replace my Rival Crockpot ceramic liner that cracked from regular use when I happened on this website. I will not replace the liner because of the many complaints and instead buy from a different company altogether. Thankfully we discovered the crack before we used the crockpot again.

I have purchased two crock pots by Rival in two years and both pots crack across the middle inside, resulting in spills.

We have a Rival 6 Quart crock pot. The handle on the glass lid separated from the lid. Very poor design. The screw holding the plastic handle together does not fasten it to the lid, instead relying on some type of glue. Very frustrating. What do we do now? Throw it into a land fill?

Just seems like pretty poor customer relations to make a product and not make replacement parts or to back there product. So I now have a slowe cooker with no handle. So I risk burning myself every time I use it

I had a seldom used Rival slow cooker that is approximately 6 years old. I was cooking a beef roast on low for 8 hours and at 6 hours there was a loud explosion. The glass top had exploded into thousands of pieces all over my kitchen. Even though it is tempered glass there were shards everywhere as well. I was offered a new slow cooker but that was not my purpose. It is so very dangerous and should be investigated immediately.

I bought a Rival Type SC-10, Model SCR509 crock pot two years ago, but have only used it four or five times because it does not get hot enough, on high setting, to even bring soup to a simmer. I even tried starting with stock preheated in the microwave. The last time I tried to use it, the temperature control knob partially melted!I guess all of the heat was just directed to that one spot.
Each time, I ended up transferring the food to my 25 year old (also a Rival) crockpot which quickly brings the food up to the desired temperature.
I wonder if it is relevant that my old (working great) pot was made in Sedalia, MO. The new (piece of junk) pot was made in China. I will not buy Rival again. This is no longer a quality product!

I was using my Rival Smart Pot which I've had maybe 2 years. Just yesterday the handle snapped off on it, and I determined that I'd just buy a new handle or something. But then today I was watching my local news and lo and behold they actually had an article about the exact same complaint. They said that a new Lid is $15 (ridiculous!) if you are out of the 1 year warranty period. I tried to call Rival (closed for the day of course) so I submitted an email to them thru their site. Hopefully I will get somewhere with them...

I purchased the Rival 12-cup coffee maker at Walmart. The filter basket is very hard to remove from maker. I really have to fight it. Also, when coffee is done it is maybe luke warm. I would call it tepid. I have to heat it in the microwave to make it warm enough. I'll never but another one.

I am lucky that no one was seriously injured. I was going to try to replace the lid until I started reading all of the customer complaints. Now I think I will look for another brand!

Costco was very accomodating in giving us a refund but my reason for posting this complaint was the danger of using this appliance. An appliance of such poor quality should be recalled before someone get seriously injured.

Finally, the lid handle broke last month. I was shopping for a replacement lid when I stumbled across this site. Now I think I'll just count myself lucky to have a nice new lettuce bowl.

Smoke and chemical smell filled garage after pot plugged in on high for about 2 hours. Thank God of all days I was home and decided to put this in garage so as not to heat up house. Went to put laundry on line and garage filled with smoke. outer element of pot is blackened and slightly melted. Burned hole in cutting board and into countertop in garage. My concern is for safety of product. I was so lucky to be home and see to it. My house could have burned down.

I purchased a crock pot about 1 year ago that worked fine initially. Now everything burns in it no matter the setting. I have used [Rival] crock pots for years and know your produnt is normally very good. Can anything be done? The model #33511

went to take the lid off of my crockpot and the handle just came off in my hand. type sc10 model scr509 DHP5106. seams i'm not the only one this has happened to. sore foot

I purchased a Rival removable electric skillet from Walmart. From the beginning I thought it didn't seem to heat well, but thought I may need to learn how to use it. I had to turn it completely up and then it still didn't keep heating right. Finally, after a couple months, it quit working completely. Since I didn't have the original box that I could take it back to Walmart, I followed the directions and sent it back to Rival. I had to pay over $11 to ship it and send a check of $10 to pay for return shipping. Now I called in and they said it is on back order for almost 2 months. They did not give me any idea of when it would be shipped. I have been very disappointed as I thought a company like this would do what they could to assure customer satisfaction.

i purchase a electric beverage fountain about ayear ago. and have only used it twice. now it doesnt work, because the plun in. and y cant not find a replacement for it . 120v a.c.-13w. REALLY MAD BECAUSE WAS GOING TO USE IT FOR MY DAUGHTER WEDDING IN SEPT. RELLY LIKE TO KNOW WHERE FIND THIS PART MODEL BF150

purchased this item at Wal Mart as a christmas present for my wife this past Dec, 2008, Today, Aug.15, 2009 she decided to try her new sealer out. It does not light up for hands free, (green light) or vacunm the air out. their contact rivalproducts for a fee will tell me what's wrong with this food sealer?

I bought a Rival oval 6 Qt. smart pot crock pot about a year or so ago. I was using it the other day and I heard a crack noise and the inside of the white crock is cracked. I have never had that happen before It is an oval pot and is raised above the main unit about 2 inches. Can the stoneware part be replaced?

Handle broke off on the lid of my new Rival crock pot SCVPS600 and I almost burnt my 1 year old son!! After this happened I immediately went to the web and could not believe this product had not been recalled as being faulty when I read so many other similar stories!!

Bought a Rival,in Dec 2008, teflon sklillet, treated it properly in cleaning and use(utensils).Teflon delaminating and wiping off on paper towels! No recourse for complaints or replacement . Tried on line, got some "we don't carry that product",from a complaint service contracted to Rival.

I have a Rival Crockpot that the handle of the lid seemed to have melted off... just broke when I was lifting the lid off. I also noticed that when cooking on low, it seems to cook higher... would be better off cooking it on warm!

We received a Rival Blender as a wedding gift 3 years go. Its a blender so we dont use it every day. We have honestly used this a total of 3 times since we owned it and on the 3rd time, something inside started burning and now it will not turn on. Its really terrible because we honestly have only used this a few times and I know it was an expensive product.
I was seriously disappointed to find out there is no way to have it replaced and I am sure I am about to find out there are no replacement parts either.
My wife wanted to just throw it away and go get another but I honestly expected more. I see now how naive that thought was.

No phone numbers or direct contact information seems to be available for me to contact Rival. I purchased a Rival Slow Cooker a few years back and have not used it on a regular basis but when I have it's worked fine until today when I put a turkey pot roast to cook on high. Fortunately I wasn't working today so I was able to clean up the huge mess before it caused too much damage to my cabinets. The entire base of the stoneware bowl completely cracked and fell out! All the juices and hot liquids leaked all over the kitchen counter. Fortunately no-one was burned but it was a big mess and one wasted meal. I would like to receive a refund but I don't have the receipt or contact information. Given the other reviews I've now read, I would NOT recommend this brand to anyone.

I bought a Rival crockpot SCVE500 a couple of years ago, it has been discontinued now. The handle came of the top, and I cannot find a replacement lid. Am I supposed to discard the whole thing and buy a new one? What happens when that one is discontinued? I will not buy Rival again.

The unit overcooks because the low temp. is too hot. Most items I cook are brought to a boil when the cooker is set in the LOW position.
Last evening I started to lift the lid off of the cooker and the handle came off. It appears that the handle got to hot and seperated from the scew that attaches it to the pot lid. Fortunately I had just started to lift the lid so it did not cause me any injury. The cooker had been in the LOW position during the entire cooking process. The lid was much too hot for LOW cooking. The handle was melted underneath.
The lid is undamaged as is the cooker, but I am unable to find a replacement lid handle and the cooker is unusable with the LOE setting set to high. The SCR509's should be examined to determine their flaws and them they should be removed from the market and those of us who own them should be given a credit towards a new and different model cooker.

Whatever is being cooked inside then dries out and burns.
I went to the Rival web site and asked if it had been recalled. The only answer I got was I could buy another lid or to put a towel under it while cooking. I told the person who suggested it that it was not a safe suggestion since the crock pot is plugged into electric and it would be sitting on a wet towel. They then stopped the communication.
Not a very smart but dangerous suggestion from Rival.

Bought a new auto SCVC600 crock pot unit for x-mas, my old one was 15 years old and it finally gave out. Used it about 4 times. I went to pick it up and the lid handle fell off. The hindge broke right after that, its a piece of junk. I could have burnt myself or someone else. I also think that the low setting is way to hot, it still burns food.
Total dissappoint over Rival products, I didn't get burnt but reading other posts that I was luckey.

I have a Rival slow cooker that is on the recall. I was filling out my address on the registration form but when I hit enter, it would not let me go further. I stated that Object reference not set to an instance of an object. What does this mean and did my recall get registered since it would not let me go further?

We got a Rival Crockpot slow cooker for Christmas. The handle cracked and fell off in the dishwasher. Now I see I'm not the only one with this problem resulting from poor design. I'm just lucky I didn't burn or hurt myself as others have. I emailed the company, they don't sell the handles, they'll sell me a whole new lid for $15. I don't want to spend money on another lid that's just going to break.
After just getting a new Crockpot, I need to buy another one.

Rival Smart Pot SC22 type Model: SCR500 The handle on the lid broke off-it appears to have melted on the underside by the screws & broke apart. I was fortunate that it happened while the lid was on the pot and didn't fall while I was holding it hot. As I read other reports, I do think liquids evaporated way too fast, and the excess heat may have been the cause of the handle breaking apart.
loss of a crockpot that I have had for a little over a year. I was fortunate it broke while in position & couldn't be lifted. Had it broken while lifting the hot lid, it certainly could have caused burns.

In August 2008, we purchased a Rival Electric Skillet S16RB at the Fry's Store in Prescott, AZ. We use coated utensils that are made for teflon coated pans. The teflon has peeled off and gets into the food. It is down to the metal below the coating. I no longer had the receipt as in the past Rival products have held up well. However, we paid about $60 for the skillet and now cannot find a replacement for the removable skillet. Neither can we locate a website for Rival or another source to purchase a replacement. Rival is appears to be less than reputable with their products. I would not not recommend any puchase a Rival product until they demondstrate concern for the consumers.
The consquence is a waste of $60 for a product that is now useless. We now find ourselves need to purchase a whole new electric skillet and have to worry about the telflon our family have have ingested.

I had a Rival Type SC7 Model SCVP600 Listed 892G Slow Cooker with auto time. Lid handle broke got scalded. Originally sent in to consumer affairs.com my complaint on 3/1/2009 to date have heard nothing. Now I have a cooker with a broken handle so I can not use the lid and I get no response. Please advise.
Scalded hand and wrist.

This crock pot/slow cooker's top does not contain the steam generated when the pot is cooking. The top pops up, steam escapes, leaves water puddles all over the table and the meat burns. My old one, a different brand, worked well. This one is awful!

The glass top exploded into thousands of pieces while I was cooking Chili. No one was hurt but there could have been. Want to make sure that no one else has had the same problem.

I got a replacement pot for my defective new Smart Pot.This was mailed to me UPS from Rival. It does not work properly. It looses all liquid at each use, and burns or overheats. My other pot never did that. I am not happy with this Smart pot. I don't know if the lid does not fit or why it cooks too hot on low. I have burned several things.
Is it possible for the pot to cook too hot on low? I would sure like to have it work like my other pot did before it quit working.

My husband bought me a rival slow cooker 6qt. ovel for Christmas I had used it 6-8 times. 2 weeks ago I cooked a pot of beefstew in it. I wanted to move it to a different location, and when I picked it up to move it both of the handles broke. I almost droped the cooker, when I was trying to put it down I scalded my forearm. I wanted to hurry and put it down before I droped it and spilled it all over me. The slow cooker was purchased at Wal-Mart. The information I gave was on the bottom of my slowcooker. Thank you for your time.
I scalded my forearm,If I had droped it I would have had serious burns all over my body, and My Kitchen floor would have been broken. I just don't want anyone to get injured by this happening again. This is a safty hazzard and it doesn't need to be on the shelf anymore. I sent two different emails to the Rival company and neither time they replied back. I asked them what should I do about returning it because I already threw the box away.

Purchased a Rival Crockpot Type SC6 Model SCV601 in June of 2007. Have used it maybe once a month since then. Today we noticed the handles on the base shattered around the screws, as pieces around one screw came off. Upon further inspection found cracks around all the screws on the handles. One screw on each handle has come off and is now loose on the inside on the base. Because the base is riveted together there is no means of opening it to pull out the screws. We are afraid to use it because of the possibility of shock or fire hazard if one of these screws shorts an electrical connection. We are lucky - my wife was going to make a hot dish to take to the office and the handles could have broken off while she had something hot in the crock.
This is the third Rival Crockpot we've owned and have been happy with all of them until now. The two older versions are still in use after 10 & 20 years (have passed them on to our kids).
With handles broken and no way to repair them, and having loose screws rattling around the base with electrical connections and the heating element - this appliance is a hazard to use and is effectively useless.

I just went to take the lid off of my crockpot and the handle came off, the glass lid fell into the crockpot splashing hot liquid onto my arm.
I was scalded.

I purchased a Rival Electric Frypan. I purcased this at Target. Unfortunately I did not save the receipt because I never expected any kind of problem with a frypan. It has the telfon coating on it. I have used this frypan exactly once. I did not used it immediately when I got it but about a month later. I have only cooked one item in it, I made some chili. When I went to clean it I found that all of the coating is bumped up and looks like it wants to come off. I am scared to use it now.
It was a extra large one so it was not cheap as far as I am concerned. Surely a product should not do this especially this soon after getting it. I of course did not use any items on it that would harm the coating. I would advise NO ONE to purchase ANY of the rival products that have the telfon coating. There web site states that they will not do anything if you do not have your receipt and you have to pay shipping which would be very costly because it is quite heavy. I feel this is a safety hazard for the consumer and something needs to be done.
$45.00

I had purchased 4 units of model #
SCE 500 WM - 2 for gifts and 2 to keep. (I wanted matching units for entertainment purposes.)
The first time the one unit was used, the glaze became crazed and one large crack appeared, but the crock did not break. Not wanting to risk injury with bacteria seeping into my next meal, or having the crock completely break, I called Rival customer service* and was told I could purchase a new unit and receive a 25% discount, but of course I would have to pay shipping fees. I told the Rep. that solution was unacceptable as the unit had only been used once.
I asked for some type of coupon to use in a local store. I explained that I also had another brand new unit in the box and offered to send it back, along with the cracked unit, so they could look at a possible reason for the cracking. My offer was declined. I asked why they didn't want to investigate. (The conclusion I came to was that they were already well aware of why this model failed - as it had been discontinued.) After much time trying to reason with the Rep., I stated I would NEVER purchase another Rival product and I would pass my story along to everyone I knew.
I hoped the failure of the first unit was a fluke. Today, I opened the 2nd unit and cooked spaghetti sauce.
THIS UNIT ALSO FAILED AS THE GLAZE BECAME CRAZED AND CRACKED EXACTLY AS THE FIRST UNIT ! I had purchased these units for $25. each and they are now in my trash bin.
It makes me wonder how many thousands of defective units are out there, or how many people don't know how dangerous to their health it is to use crazed or cracked pottery.
I had found this site when looking for the official Rival web site I found it incredible that consumers were given such a run-around. My experience was just as bad as had been reported by other consumers.
I purchased these units on sale for $25.00 each. I am out $50.00. For the health and safety of future comsumers, I would be willing to be part of a class action against Rival on principal alone.

I purchased two Rival Removable Electric Skillets at Christmas to give as gifts. The people I gave them to are very responsible people and they have said that the teflon has been peeling off into their food. [Kohls] will not take the skillets back because the people I gave the gifts to no longer have the boxes that the skillets came in or the receipts. I have spoke to other people that have purchased this product and they say that their skillets are also peeling. I think the store should replace the skillets or refund the money whether they have the receipts or not. What is your opinion on this matter?
No physical damage has been done but having the teflon in your food is not safe for anyone.

December 2008. I registered my broken crock-pot and followed directions and sent the plug end to address above. Have not been contacted or received any response. Website said 2-4 weeks for delivery. It's been 3 months.
Unable to use my crock-pot because there is no plug.

I never had the need to use it until the first week of February. The heating element would not heat up. The control was turned on (light) but no heat. We took it back to Wal Mart, In Sheridan. They would not take it for an exchange, since we did not have a sales slip and they only did this in January. So we bought another one, thinking ok..the next one will work ..the same thing, no heat. What do we do now? We still have the first one..which is no use to us and we can't exchange it. I will think twice before I buy anything with Rival for a Mfg name. Wal Mart should be commended for standing behind the products they sell.

I have a Rival Crockpot that I have only used a few times and I cooked some Ham in it last week and it has a small crack that had some leakage in the bottom of the inside where the crock sits. I can hardley find the crack. I have always used Rival Crock Pots and loved them I have three different ones now and three sizes. I want my crock replaced and i did.t have a number to call to get this took care of. I would like a reply as soon as possible. I am very particular on how I take care of my cooking utensils and pots. I had one of the rival pots I used for 30 years and now my daughter has it. Thank you in advance for a prompt reply.

crock pot lid hahdle just came off in my hand-i used this crock pot only 5 times

I purchased my Rival Slow Cooker (black) Model SCVS601 in June 2007. I had used it quite a bit up until about October 2008 when the clasps on the glass lid broke off. Thankfully, they didn't break off while I was using it, as I have read has happened to a good number of people on this complaint site. It is very unfortunate that a company such as Rival makes such shoddy products. I would say that I used my slow cooker 1-2 times a week, which is normal use. For the handles/clasps to just break off like that, is unacceptable. I was attempting to find Rival's website so I could try to order another replacement lid, but it sounds like I may not have very much success with that. I will see what happens.
As I didn't sustain any physical damage, from an economic standpoint, the whole purpose of my purchasing the slow cooker was to make my life a lot easier; now that I no longer have use of my crockpot, recipes that I could just set and forget are a thing of the past. I really am missing the use of my crockpot and hope that a fair resolution will come of all of these complaints about Rival products.

This is the second crock-pot I've had from Rival and same problem- weak handles. My last one both the base handles and the lid handles broke off, luckily not when I was carrying something hot and heavy. And the one I have currently the lid handle just broke off. I'm sure the base handles won't be far behind. This is with light use, I only use it maybe once a month.
After reading more about this online I'm surprised there hasn't been a bigger uproar about this. This is extremely dangerous since they are normally full of hot, heavy foods that could injure someone if a handle breaks while carrying. I will not buy a Rival Crock-pot ever again.
I will have to spend money I don't have to replace this.

I purchased a large oval Rival crockpot several years ago - probably the 3rd or 4th one I've owned and had always been happy with them in the past. This one, however, has a metal handle on the top of the glass lid and I have managed to burn my fingers more than once. We moved out of the country shortly after I purchased this product and couldn't take it with us but now that I'm back and trying to use it regularly again I've been very frustrated by this design flaw.
I noticed in the stores that this product now has a plastic handle on top so I e-mailed the company to ask if something could be done about this problem and was told by a Customer Service Rep. at their company that she was very sorry but her best advice to me would be to use a pot holder when handling the lid! I replied to her that I would like a replacement handle but have heard nothing back for several weeks.
I was sincerely hoping to have this matter resolved but after reading these comments I have a feeling Rival will be losing me as a customer along with all the others that have had no luck with their customer service! Truly sad that they will not stand behind their products any better than this! They have lost me as a customer unless they resolve this matter soon.

I have two Rival crock pots, a small one and a large on. The large one is only about a year old and I only use it for occasions when I take meals to church functions etc. I have not used this pot more than 6 times. This last time I took it out to use it I noticed the right handle is broken. It is model no. CSU601 which is not on the recall list. After reading some of these complaints I do not understand why there is not a class action law suit against this company. They should not be in business. I didn't bother to call the company after reading these reports since I figured I would get the same run around.Where are all these people who is suppose to be watching out for this kind of fraud?

I purchased last year a Rival Oval Crockpot Type SC7 Model SCVP600 and the plastic piece that is held on by a screw and nut on the top broke and I ended up getting scalded as the lid fell in the hot beef roast and gravy and splashed up on my hand and face.
Please see above

We purchased a Rival Stoneware Cooker Model #SCV 600, Type SC6 Slow Cooker and have enjoyed cooking with it since we first bought it a year or so ago. The one we have has Basil, Rosemary, Oregano and Sage shown on the front of it. We noticed lately that the stoneware (it is forest green color and oval shape) has started to discolor and we would like to know if the stoneware can be replaced as we are concerned for our health. We have stopped using the unit since we became aware of the situation. Please advise. Thank you very much.
No physical damage as we have stopped using the slow cooker. As for economic damage, we are out about $40.00.

I just bought my first Rival product, a Deep Fryer, it worked for all of 5 minutes, thats it, its model # CF154-CN, I will be returning this to Walmart but I just wanted to leave my complaint hoping that no one else buys this piece of JUNK.....

I have a dangerous crock pot Model Number 37551 that has broken handles and knob for the lid cracked off. However after 2 years is no longer warranteed and is not on the product recall list when it should be. A crock pot should last more than 2 years. My daughter gave me this as a Mothers day gift and I feel they should replace it for me. She doesn't have a receit any longer. I am an honest person and think it is unfair and dishonest of Rival. I often take this to work with soup and think of what could have happened if the handles broke as I transported it.

I also have a Rival crockpot with a recall. I cut the cord and mailed it in. When five weeks passed, I looked into it further on line. That is when I read all the messages about a replacement not being sent. I found this phone number and was told they had no products so my order was canceled!!!! I then explained that I expected some replacement and I am now being told that a brand new different model will be sent within 10 days. I hope this will help anyone else out there. I also hope they keep their word.

I have bought Rival products for years. Right now I own a Rival Roaster, Electric Skillet and a Rival Smart Pot Slow cooker. I have bought and given Rival produts for countless years. I bought my Rival Smart Pot slow cooker in November of 2008, following all the directions it does not work and never has. I wanted to make some spiced apple drink for Christmas after turning it on high I waited 2 hours and still the mixture was cold. I know that I don't have the box and Sam's Warehouse won't take it back, but after all these years I think I should get a new one, just for my trouble and loyalty to Rival Products Thank you

I wanted to let everyone know that I found a round handle on Ebay that is a replacement part. Rival does not sell this and they gave me the same run around when I called them.
Will Never buy another product from them again.

I purchased a Rival Smart -pot Programmable 5 qt. [model SCRP509] Type SC11 Slow Cooker at a local grocery Store . I have used it to cook Roast Beef on several occasions. The first time I used it , the house smelled like the meat was bad so I threw the meat in the garbage. I have tried repeatedly to use it for cooking Roast beef and the same thing occurs. It is rather embarassing when you invite people over for dinner and the house smells like rotten meat cooking.
I have spent many dollars on good cuts of meat, only to throw it away.

I bought a Rival 4 liter deep fryer model number CZF725 for christmas 2008. Upon opening the box I discovered the power cord was not included. My first thought is that it would be easy to find. How naive i was. Today is 02/13/09 and just got off the phone with yet ANOTHER person trying to find a replacement. It seems Rival does NOT supply replacement parts for its items and their recommendation was and i quote Just buy a new one, use the cord, and save the other fryer in case the 1st one breaks end quote. This remark was made by one of the jarden customer service employees.
I finally have decided to purchase another fryer FROM A DIFFERENT manufacturer and will NEVER purchase another RIVAL product for ANY reason what so ever. This has cost me time and frustration trying to get them to fix a problem THEY started by not making sure ALL the items were located IN THE PACKAGE before shipping.

This crock pot was used maybe 8 times and yesterday we put a roast in and abt 20 minutes later heard a loud pop and upon examining the pot saw a crack across the entire bottom of the insert. Seems like a company should have to back up a product better than rival appears to do. Looking at their website I see no solution or help available. I did email them my phone number and we shall see but I don't expect much from what I've now seen online.

We purchased a Rival home chef collection counter top oven model CO606 in 2006. On Feb. 1st. the wiring caught fire inside and broke out in flames.
Fortunatly no damage or injury.

I do not know how to contact the Rival Company to tell their customer service dept that the bowl on my slow cooker cracked with normal usage. It was not dropped, struck or mishandled in any way and i feel that the company should replace it. i would appreciat it if someone could advise me who to contact and how to go about taking care of this problem asap thank you in advance.

Pretty much same story as everyone else..broke lid to 6qt oval crockpot. Called Rival for a replacement lid. Initially, I was told they were out of stock (10/08) and they would be available in 1 to 2 weeks. I called again after 2 weeks and was *then* informed that my model was too old, they don't make replacement parts for it anymore. I then informed them I had just purchased it! Sales tag still on it! The rep finally admitted that Rival didn't make replacement lids. Sure, I understand the marketing strategy..force individuals to purchase an entire new item. However, I find it appalling that the company promotes and condones individuals to be stuck with an item that can't be used and/or is obligated to toss into a landfill. These items should last for years with replacement parts readily accessible.

I have 2 crock pots models number P609H and 38501 and they both cook so hot that when you put them on 10 hour cooks the meals are burned and the crock is burned. I have owned both of these before and the glass crocks both cracked after a year so I went and bought new ones and now I can't cook a meal without worrying. I tried to take them back but because it has been 90 days they won't take them back so can you help me.
My dinners are ruined and it makes me nervous to have something unattented cooking that hot all day.

I have a rivel crock pot model # 37601 I have only had this crock pot for a little over 1 year and the plastic handel on the glass lid has cracked in several places and falling apart. If possible could you mail me a new handle.
Hard to remove the lid, with the possibliity of getting burned.

I purchased a Rival griddle model GRF405, the knob broke off the right side so it does not work at all, the left side does not heat properly, does not heat up and stay hot.
VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE PRODUCT.

The handles on our Rival Crockpot are cracked (Model 3355). I tried to see if I could order replacement handles but couldn't find them.I then started to research the problem and found out that other models have been recalled but not this one
The only economic damage is the fact that we will have to purchase another crockpot since this one isn't part of the recall.

Rival Sc6 Slow Cooker Model Scv601, Handle crumbled to pieces and fell off the side of the crockpot. I didn't have any warning. Had a rival before that did this and it was recalled. I haven't seen any recall notice for this model, that's a shame. Don't think I can trust a Rival brand again.
Quick action kept me from burning my hand to badly and kept me from dropping the pot.

The plastic handle on my Rival Slow Cooker Model No.3735 broke off at the screw connection. The crockpot is only used a couple of times a year. I'm not finding a replacement handle for this model.
The pot was full of hot food when this happened but fortunately it was just being set down, when the handle popped of into my hand.

Our fist crockpot was rival. All handeles came off. I tried to use it with out, bad chocie, I burnt my fingers trying to get the pot out. Tossed in trash, I kept thinking why would a com. as good as rival make this? We got another rival, same thing. I guess [they] have no QA. No more for rival. [They] are BAD.

My husband purchased me a Rival Slow Cooker last year model number SCRC500W 5 Qt. Slow Cooker. I have used crockpots for years but not the Rival Brand. I worked long hours as a nurse and my husband was in the military so a crock pot was a blessing with 3 children at home. I was excited about this new pot because it had two inserts one full size and one divided into two. I used it three times and noticed that the food was burning on the bottom and around the top. I could not add more liquid because it was already full. So I decided to try and cook the next meal at a lower temp and see how that would work.
So yesterday I decided to make a pot full of chili to have during the games tomorrow. I cooked it on low for about 2 hours and had it on warm for approx 2 hours. I was then going to remove the insert and cool it to be reheated today. First when I went to stir the chili the handle in the center of the top seemed to be helded by vacumn and was difficult to remove. I pulled on it and POP it broke loose and the handle was in my hand and the top first hit my arm, hand then upper legs and rested on the floor. I had chilli all over the place and I had a burnt hand. Then when I started to take the remaining chili out of the pot it was burnt around the top and the meat and beans were burnt and stuck to the sides and bottom.
I ended up with a burnt had a ruined outfit and a mess to clean up not to mention the cost of the lost food. My 12 year old grand daughter lives with me and what if this happenes to her. She would havve had more serious burns that I do. SO AS FOR THIS HOUSEHOLD THERE WILL BE NO RIVAL COOKWARE ALLOWED IN HERE. I WILL ALSO BEING PASSING ALONG THIS INFORMATION TO ALL OUR MILITARY FAMILY AROUND THE WORLD ABOUT HOW UNSAFE THESE PRODUCTS ARE. I will also be sending a letter to the military exchanges & PXs that they maybe should look into pulling these products from their shelves. I am sorry but this is a dangerous product and it needs to be pulled before someone is scarred for life.
Economic loss -- cost of slow cooker $50.00. The cost of the ingredients for the chili - $26.31

I broke the lid to my 6 quart Rival model 38601 Samrt Pot slow cooker. It was only 3 years old. I called Rival to buy a replacement and was told they do not make them, that my model was too old. They don't make ANY replacement lids for ANY oval shaped pots, they only sell one round lid. While the customer service rep was polite and offered me 25% off a new crockpot, I find it unbelievably wasteful that a company would not offer a replacement part to a product this widely sold.
My options are to store a completely useless crockpot in my garage for 30 years or toss a large appliance in a landfill because of a missing lid. Both options are terrible, wasteful, and environmentally irresponsible. After reading the reviews here, I will not buy another Rival crockpot because the company does not appear to be a good steward of the environment or it's customers. I will probably end up paying more, but I will find a company that will stand by it's product and not design appliances to force frequent replacements.
This was a $60 crockpot that is now useless and i will have to put out at least that to replace it with a better quality crock. My mother had a crockpot that literally lasted 30 years, what happened to that kind of quality?

Crock pot burned a large area of a conference table and table cloth. Was not aware of a recall on this product, which was bought in 2007?

Model 3040 Crock Pot Slowcooker date code Y4105 base handles broke off and the control knob broke off after normal use. Appears plastic material disintergrated.
Screws in the side are exposed and sharp edges could have resulted in injuries.

My handle on my slow cooker from Rival also broke off the lid. I did notice that rival does not provide a replacement part.

I enquired as to the recall status of a slow cooker and was advised it was under recall. The lady with whom I spoke verified the number on the plug prong and told me to cut it off the cord and mail it to them along with a 3x5 card with name etc.I did this June 21, 2008. On Sept. 21/08 I sent a follow up letter to ask when I would receive the new base. To date I have heard nothing from them. I have been slow at this due to 2 major surgeries since June but I did not anticipate a problem with the Rival recall centre
Inconvenience! I now lack confidence in the Rival Brand.

I purchased a Portable Slow Cooker type SC43, SCVS601. After 3 uses, the handles started to fall into tiny pieces. I could not open the lid without using a large spoon to get it open since the handle was now gone. When I went to open it, I was scalded by the hot steam. Needless to say, I went without using a crock pot for a long time as I didn't know where I could get a new lid.
Today I went Christmas shopping and found a whole new crock pot at Target for only $19.99. I purchased it and started thinking about my barely used crock pot sitting in my cupboard. I pulled it out and decided to check on-line to see if I could get a new lid. That's when I found so many reports of broken handles and charred food that I have decided to return the purchase I made today. I want nothing to do with RIVAL or appliances made in China!!!
I was scalded by the steam from the hot food. This pain lasted 3 days and then I felt fine. I am very frustrated because I my first crock pot lasted almost 20 years!!!!

I sent in the plug end of a Rival Slow cooker model 3735 and my info on a 3.5 index card as instructed by their website. This was on Oct. 25, 2008. I have not heard a word from them or received my replacement base. I can't even find a phone no. or contact website to email them. I see many others have the same problem. I need my slow cooker! This was for a safety recall.
Cannot use my crockpot with the cord cut. I can't believe Rival won't follow thru with a safety recall that said stop using immediately. The website stated that I should keep the lid and crock and they would send a replacement base with the heating element in 2 to 3 weeks.

I was making chili to take to a church potluck. I cooked the meat and put it in the crockpot with the rest of the ingredients. I put the crockpot on high went to the sink to wash dishes. After about five minutes, I heard a very loud popping sound. I couldn't tell at first where it came from, but soon I discovered that the lid of the crockpot had cracked into hundreds if tiny pieces, some of which were in the chili. I had to wait unitl everything was cool before I could even attempt to clean up the mess. Needless to say, I had nothing to take with me.
My crockpot is only a couple of years old. I've used crockpots for over twenty years and never had anything like that happen before. After reading all of the complaints, I'm almost afraid to use them anymore, especially if I leave the house.

My 5.5 qt Crockpot gets so hot on the bottom that today it warped and melted (nearly all the way through) the 1/2 inch cutting board it was sitting on. Last week I had it on the butcher block counter and it got so hot it left a dark mark in the wood. I emailed the company; they responded with a message that told me to look at the attached user manual (but they didn't attach the manual so I sent back a request for it). I don't see how the manual is going to help me with this.
1. Dark mark on my butcher block counter directly under where the Crockpot was sitting. 2. Fully warped and melted 1/2 inch thick cutting board (Crockpot was sitting on top of it for safety.)

I have a Rival Oval Model Number Dhp 2303-Smart Pot Crock Pot- The crock pot is getting so hot that the handles on the outside are melting off, cracking. Even when you have it on low it is not low! Must be Stuck on High Thank you

I purchased model #3122CH, a smaller crock pot. The controls only have a Off-On, no adjustment of temp. I did not think to much about it until I tried using it, which proved to be impossible. There is not to slow cook anythin, because everything burns, the temp going directly to High. The crock Pot is useless
The economic damage was not great, but we do live on a fixed income, so every penny is watched. Unless you count the four meals I tried to make that tasked like burnt charcoal. This product does not do what it advertises it does.

I ordered a crock-pot to be overnighted to the hotel I was to be at for 5-days. I was attending a conference and so would not have time to go out to eat. I am on a very restricted diet because of an illness and so I planned to bring the foods I can eat and cook them in the crock pot as a soup.
I ordered a 4-quart Rival crockpot from crockpot.com, a branch of Jarden Consumer Solutions.
They charged me an extra $45 to have it overnighted. Because of my health issues, I felt it was important enough to spend that much. The crockpot and shipping came to $71.
The package did not come the next day or the day after that or the day after that. I called Jarden Consumer Solutions two times each day and emailed them seven times. They never responded to any of my emails. The crockpot arrived five days late, after I had already left.
I spoke to a rep at the company and was promised a full refund. I asked for an email to confirm that but never got it. I then called a week later and a women Sheila assured me that it would be done that day. That was two weeks ago. I never got the crockpot and I never got the refund. I have reported this to my credit card company to get the money back for me. I will never, never again buy anything from crockpot.com or from Jarden Consumer solutions for they are the same company. I warn anyone who will listen to steer clear of doing any business with this company.
I suffered while there from not having the right foods to eat having expected the crockpot to slow cook them.

Noticed the recall while online so I registered my crock pot and mailed in the plug & other information as directed. In the mean time; can't use the slow cooker without that plug. it's been very annoying. The website says 2-3 weeks so I called after 3+ months. They had my info so they must've gotten the stuff I mailed in. I called & manuvered through the automated prompting to speak to customer service. (I did not go to the recall service section, don't know if that'll make any difference for anyone).
Was told it takes 3-4 months for the recall order to be put in so to wait another month. I have everything photocopied (including the crock pot base, the 3X5 card, the registration page I sent to Rival via internet, and the plug i cut off) so hopefully I've got enough bases covered to get a replacement. No physical injuries were caused; I just think it's annoying. Thought I'd share what I've learned being as there are so many others with defective crockpots trying to do the same thing. Good luck to all!

This model is not included in the recall buy my handle fell off about 2 months ago. Why is it not covered.

While I have had my Rival crockpot for three years I have only used it lightly 4-5 times per year when we have company, so it should be like new. BUT today I went to use it (first time in months), picked up the class lid by the handle, and the handle came off and lid just dropped to the counter - the handle had just disintigrated where it attaches to the lid! I see that others have had the same problem and that this is a cheap product masquerading as a crockpot.
Will Rival send me a new lid? Crockpot can't work with out a lid . . . so I lost my money on it after very little use.

I purchased the smart pot for my daughter in law. she used it once and it quit working. paid too much for one use and I have the rival with the green dish and it cook on high hot to the touch and I was lifting up the lid and the handle broke off. not very happy. I would love my money back for both of them. they,re only a few months old thank you
food went to waste in the smart pot and the other one the food burns

Sent the plug in to Rival on Sept 22, 2008 as directed by phone call. Have not received the heating element yet. Have not been able to reach them by phone or email.
Have certificate of mailing from postoffice on Sept 22,2008
Nothing happened, just the wire was very very stiff and felt unsale to use.

I sent in the plug end of a Rival Slow cooker and my info on a 3.5 index card as instructed by their website.
This was on Oct. 10, 2008.
I have not heard a word from them or received my replacement base.
I can't even find a phone no. or contact website to email them.
I see many others have the same problem.
I need my slow cooker! We miss making winter soups and such. Bummer!
Loss of use of slow cooker.

I purchased a Crock Pot that I have used. The last time I used it, when I went to pick it up later, one of the side handles just fell apart. The Crock Pot was not hot anymore so I didn't get burned. I have found out that it is covered under a recall so I will get another base. My concern is that I received another Rival Crock Pot this last Christmas as a gift. The third time I used it, The plastic handle on the glass lid broke off. So now I can't use the Crock Pot. Two Rival Crock Pots and issues with them both.
I have a Crock Pot I can not use. It is an oval shaped 5 qt. crock pot. Model number SCV553.

I purchased a Rival SCVS600 slow cooker and the second time I used it the lid's handle melted loose and broke off with pieces dropping into the food. The lid also doesn't seal down and will leak hot steam out when you open the lid. Rival is selling defective merchandise and won't sell replacement parts or stand by their products. This has been going on a long time by looking at the other complaints, and nothing seems to being done to them to make them improve their products.
I received light burns on my bare arms when the lid fell off into the hot liquids. I called to get a new $.50 handle and was told I had to buy a whole new glass lid. Of course they didn't have any in stock, but offered a discount for another one of these dangerous cookers. No thanks, I am not giving Rival anymore money. I am out the whole price of the cooker since it can't be fixed. This is quite a scam for Rival, sell products that look like real appliances but are only cheap look-alikes made in China. I am sure they are making millions stealing money from unsuspecting people like this.

After using the Rival scvp600 crockpot about 4 times, a hair line crack developed across the bottom of the crock. This makes the crockpot useless, a waste of money
I was lucky enough to find the crack befor it got bad enough to cause serious damage.

I have a Rival Smartpot crock pot and every time I use it the food burns even if it is at the lowest setting. Also the outside gets so hot I cannot put it on my counter top. It has burned me and I am afraid to use it because I also have small children.
This is no slow cooker. I am very dissapointed in this product and would not reccomend it to anyone. Has anyone else out there had this problem or is it just me with a lemon!

The griddle I bought, even after several uses, continues to spew out toxic fumes whenever I cook. I am going to toss it out, but this is a danger. My cats run away from the smell. Even on a low setting, the horrible, acrid smell ruins my home. I have to open every door and window. What about my health? And my family's health? I'm very concerned about this plastic coating. It cannot be FDA approved?
The acrid bitter odor hurts my lungs. My cats leave the house. My husband thinks I'm poisoning him.

Last year I was given a rival smart pot crock pot. From the first time I used it the food overcooked. I continued to use it thinking it was the particular recipe. However no matter what recipe I use it overcooks the food. I can not use it as a slow cooker because it cooks too high. I used it while at home one day and it actually boils the food and becomes very hot.
Rival refuses to even acknowledge this as a problem. My emails were ignored. When I called and talked to a representative (Ruby) she said that was the design of the crock pot for it to get hot and sometimes boil at 320 degrees. THIS is NO slow cooker. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she HUNG up on me.

My Rival Smart-Pot Slow Cooker model #SCVP6009 was given to me by our daughter as a Christmas gift last year. It has been used only a few times because of its size. More often I use our 13 year old pot because it is a smaller size. The first time I used this pot according to the cord I realized how hot the unit would get, the next time of use I realized that there had been small black feet on the bottom of the unit to keep it from sliding on/off the counter (one still remained), I thought it best to always set the unit on a hot pad for safety from the heat,
on Saturday evening I was lifting the unit by the handles to transport it to a dinner and the left handle broke in my hand. Praise the Lord the lasagna dish did not spill on me.
I walk with a cane so have a struggle getting things to the car for transport. I now find on the web site that these units are dangerous because of overheating and some (not mine) have been recalled for the same problem I have. It seems that something should be done to this NAME BRAND COMPANY that consumers depend upon.

There is a small platic handle/knob on the lid. After a few uses this handle/knob cracked. The crockpot can not be used safely without this piece.
Nothing happened because I was paying attention.

I have owened my Rival smartpot for approx. 3 years. From the very beginning, it overheated, to the point I could not leave it unattended. I used it only occasionally, and warned my small children to not touch, even the outside of the pot. I tried to contact Rival as soon as I realized this pot was [bad]! The handles actually melted off yesterday, while filled with Spanish rice, at a family gettogether.
I called the company this morning and was told it only has a one year warranty. The costumer service rep. was curt, disinterested, and seemed bothered by my call. I asked to speek to a supervisor or manager, which she said was not possible. We are a hardworking,middle-class family. I think I should receive a new warmer at the very least. If this matter can`t be taken care of by this Co. I will take further action. Rival needs to come thru for the consumer, and I can see from reading the complaint pages, I am not alone.
As a one- income schoolteacher, family, in todays economy, we carefully consider each purchase. We expect things to work, and if not the company to be fair. This will make or break our ever purchasing a rival product again.

I bought a rival 6 quart slow cooker and the second time I used it to make spagetti sauce the liner cracked. The whole bottom cracked around the edges and up the side. Not just a small crack when I filled it with water it leeked out the side til it was practically empty. I had the same experience they offered me 25% on another purchase because there is not a recall on the liners. Sorry but I won't buy another product from Rival
Spagetti sauced leeked into the metal base and could not be cleaned out because it had baked on the bottom. If I had been cooking soup and water le4edinto the metal base no telling what could have happened.

I have a Rival Slow Cooker Model 33511. IT has a defective handle - similar to the products described in the recall. Unfortunately, the model isn't covered in the recall, but the problem is the same as the products being recalled
Burned myself pickup up the defective handle

I took my Rival Crock pot out to prepare a meal and found the handle on the right side is cracked and broken with a piece of the handle falling off
None. I am very relieved to have found this before trying to move the pot while full of hot meat and liquid.

The handle to open the Crock Pot is right where the steam escapes first, so when opening the lid on the Model SCVS600,it caused great discomfort to my wrist and hand. I am just glad that I didn't ask one of my kids to check the food, it would have burned their tender skin. It had been cooking on low so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
The steam was uncomfortable but there was no damage to myself. There was, however, damage to the lid. The black plastic handle broke off at the screws because of it's inability to take the heat. I had it cooking on low for about seven hours. This is the second Rival Crock Pot that I have had. The first one was a different style and the black plastic handles on the sides just crumbled one day. They couldn't take the heat either and became brittle. I don't know what the model # of that one was. I threw the base away and kept the ceramic pot.

I heard a loud crash from my kitchen. I found pieces of the pot cover all over the counter and floor. I was not using the unit. The cover simply shattered while sitting there. So many small pieces. I could have been cut. I am 88 yrs. old.
I sent the pieces and had my daughter call them, they said no cover is available and would give me a coupon for 25% OFF A NEW UNIT, ONLY IF ORDERED FROM THE CO.! Shipping is $8.50. Too much for me. I am afraid to use a Rival with a glass lid. So now I have nothing to use.
I swept all the pieces into a box and shipped to Rival, registered, no responce because the online address is an empty warehouse for a yr now. The lady at Consumer Sattisfaction told us this when we got no responce. Not a good company to deal with.

I have a Rival Crock Pot Model SCR509. It has a glass lit with a plastic handle held on by a screw. The plastic around the screw completely disintegrated and the handle fell off.

My last three Rival Crockpots have malfunctioned dangerously. One chrome model grew so hot on the sides it could burn skin. That same model short circuited and blew sparks in my kitchen. The following two, each very lightly used, had their plastic handles break clear off their lids while in use. That is to say, during cooking, I lifted the steaming hot lid, to have the handle come off in my hands and the hot lid splatter into the near-boiling liquids of the Crockpots. (Both of these occurred within a few months of each other.) Rival does not sell replacement lids for these, of course, which renders the whole unit useless.
Rival, when contacted, told me the pots were out of warranty (big surprise there) and the best they could offer me was a 25% off a new model. I told them no thank you; I'd rather not give them *more* money for another homicidal slow cooker. All I wanted was acknowledgment of the problem and perhaps even some vague promise that they'd review their quality and safety. Something silly like that.
No physical damage, fortunately. Dropping a hot glass lid has a lot of potential for injury, and I'm thankful my kids weren't around. I probably wasted around $100-$130 overall on these slow cookers.

one of my crock pots handles have broken off and it's not part of the recall but the company will not stand behind their product. the remaining handle is broken and Icontacted the co and they will not stand behind their product
My husbands hand were mildly burn when he was carrying the unit, and some of the contents spilled

I set my Crockpot for a 6 hour cook, about 5 hours into the cooking I was in the kitchen doing some preparation, and BOOM. As I turned around in the direction of the Crockpot, the glass lid exploded. I had owned this for 4-5 years at this point, but I had only used it about 5 times. I have contacted Rival via email, no response yet.
This also contributed to a minor injury. I fully intend to pursue this in court. I do have the money to make this become a major issue.

Have the Smart-Pot and after one year of use the handles on both sides have cracked and I cannot use them to lift the unit. I filed a complaint with the company but since my model was not included in the recall there was no response.

I called to complain about the lid on my #3735 oval slow cooker. at first the woman was helpful and took numbers from the product to see if it was on a recall list. when she said it wasn't and i should try to return it to the store. i said i can't believe this was manufactured this way and can i speak to your supervisor. she (rudely) said i'm the supervisor. and I said if you let me go i can't buy any more rival products, she hung up on me! I don't think i was being rude, just clear and firm. I'm shocked!
I have to throw out the product and buy another from ANOTHER MANUFACTURER. I will NEVER buy another Rival product and encourage others to give them a hard time about shoddy manufacturing and horrible customer service!

We bought the rival deep fryer 2 months ago and thought we made a good deal. We got it and it only worked for 2 months. We would really like our $35 back for this. We did not keep the receipt but, we would not reccommend rival products to anyone. what a rip!

I was making spegetti sauce in my crockpot and when it was finished I tried to lift the glass lid but the handle broke off causing the lid to fall onto the hot sauce. The number on the lid is 33511-01B. This lid is only about 9 months old. Someone could really get burned. Please do something. I am over 70 years old and now I have to get help to get the lid off.
I am on Medicare and food is so expenses. Now I am going to have to throw this out. Thank God I was not burned but I was scared.

Rival crockpot SCR509 I bought in 2005, used quite oftern, last week the handle on the lid fell off! I can't fix it. I have used 3 different types of glue, nothing works! A new lid will cost me $10.00! When I only paid $19.00 for the whole thing.
I cannot afford to buy a new one, and I work out of my home at dinner time, my 12 year old cannot use it now, I would fix a meal in it and she would serve her sisters dinner. I cannot see paying $19.00 for a new one!

The product was a Rival Hot Pot Model 4071. I recieved it as a gift a couple of months ago and used it only to make hot water quickly for coffee or tea. I never imersed it in water to clean it, teated it rougly or handled it in any way that would damage it. A couple of days ago it quit working. I removed the electric cord cover on the bottom of the unit and it appeared that one of two the lead wires was disconnected. I couldn't figure out how to disasemble the unit to inspect the guts of the unit so after searching fruitlessly online for a schematic diagram,
There was nothing on the website that would help me so I called their 1-800 number. I explained my situation and asked if she could refer me to an online schematic drawing or if there was someone there who could explain how to disassemble the unit to find out what was wrong. After putting me on hold for a short time, she retrurned to my call and told me that her supervisor told her that she was not permitted to do so. She was, evidently, permitted to try to sell me a new unit.
Eventually I figured out how to disassemble the unit and discovered that one of the leads had melted at the terminal and that the disconnected wire had come to rest upon itself where it melted the insulation. Had it landed on the other leadwire and similarly burnt the insulation it would have damaged the electrical system of my home and possibly started a fire. My guess is that the gauge of the wire was insufficient to handle the 1000 watts at which the unit is rated. I will take it to a small appliance person to determine if this is the case.
Damge to the unit only (fortunately).

I explained my situation and asked if she could refer me to an online schematic drawing or if there was someone there who could explain how to disassemble the unit to find out what was wrong.

My husband bought me a Rival CrockPot Stoneware slow cooker for Christmas 1 1/2 years ago. I wonder why the foods took longer to cook than my previous slow cooker. And also, there was a stain on the bottom outside the stoneware bowl but inside the outer bowl. I looked furher and there is a hairline crack on the ceramic bowl. I have never dropped it or set it down hard.

Have Rival 6 qt oval crock-pot. The plastic handle broke at the screw and the lid fell into the hot liquid. VERY dangerous---hot liquid splattered all over me and the kitchen.
Hot liquids splashed all over, burning my hands specifically.
Now I find that I can't replace the lid so the whole thing has to be trashed.

I have shipped all the necessary information with the plug from my rival crock pot base for the recall of crock pot model 5445 go a recall center some where in MO. I have not recieved the new base, I don't remember the date code on the plug I sent in, and I am unable to find a number on any sights to call to inquire. I have waited past the time it should have arrived.

I have a Rival deep fryer that was given as a Christmas present. I do not have the receipt. I cleaned the unit according to the information provided. Now, the unit does not heat. The lights come on, but the oil doesn't get hot. The customer representative does not represent the customer, but is there to tell you that, without a receipt, the company will not back their product. This is totally wrong! They should be able to tell by the numbers on the unit that it is still under warranty and rectify the situation.
This country is being buried under cheaply made products from China that come without consumer protection.

I bought the top of the line Rival Smart Pot slow cooker. First problem was 6 months after purchase it melted the laminate counter top it was sitting on. I called rival and they replaced the entire unit. Now 3 years later the handle melted off the top lid. Rival says they will not replace the lid because the unit is not under warranty!
in 2005 i chose to fix my counter top myself and not take any compensation from them. I was happy to have the slow cooker replaced. but now after the handle melting i believe it is a fire hazard.

Two weeks ago bought a Rivaldeep fryerat Meijer store in Auburn Hills, Mi. I did not use it right away. Last Friday August 1, 2008,I turned it on and it would not heat. I turned the temperature knob, and it just went all around. It was broke I guess. I could not take it nback because I threw the bos away and can't find my receit. I put it on my charge.
The model is 106. Another number on the bottom is vo71000937. I would like to know if [they] will replace this. If this can't be replaced then I will not buy another Rival product. It was in a very damaged box, but I was told that it had not been returned to the store. Thank you

I have a Rival Slowcooker, Model #SCR 509. It was a Christmas present from my daughter 2007. I haven't used it but about 5 times. About the third time the part of the lid that holds the handle on cracked. The last time I used it (last week) the whole lid cracked and when I started to take the lid off the handle came off. It was then that I realized the handle was plastic and had melted. There were no injuries. I just want a new lids or be compensated. There will be no more Rival appliances bought in my family.

I lifted the hot iron to do some seam pressing and the foot plate dropped down away from the handle secured only by the electrical wiring leading to the foot plate. This was VERY disconcerting to have a dangling hot chunck of metal over which I had no control - a danger to the person using the iron and to the garment on the ironing board. It appears that the screw used to secure the handle to the footplate was not fastened tight enough.
There was no physical damage but the iron became unuseable, necessitating the purchase of another iron. I would request the replacement of the iron, model IR600 IRON MILFORD, MA 01757

I too, like George from MO cut the cord off my crock pot to send in for a replacement base because it was recalled for defective handles. I did this in April of 08 and have not received a new base and now I do not have a crock pot. I will never buy another Rival product.

Bought crockpot 5.5 slow cooker with the intent to bring it to our new home in florida. (the truck was packed by profesionals). we bought other rival products and are being shipped unopened for return. This unit when open in florida had the porcelain bowl wooble a half an inch each side. then cover also did not fit and we found all this out while my handicapped wife was trying to cook sunday dinner for the first time in our new home. I can not say enough bad thing about this rival products and previous ones. my wifes injury caused scalding. this product does not say do not use by handicapped without injury

Rival Crock-pot SCV601 About 2 years old, used at most 12 times Side handle to base crumbled upon trying to lift it. This does not seem to be a model covered by the recall and I am just about to try to deal with Rival.
No damage beyond a crock-pot without a handle

I have a Rival crockpot, model SCV601, and I went to pick up the cover from the pot and the handle to the lid broke apart. All that is left is the bolt that held this handle in place and the pieces just broke apart.
I feel that for the amount that I have used this product it did not hold up very well. It is used in an adult home and not that often. The probem is that when it broke, the lid dropped into the pot and the piece holding the nut, broke into several small pieces.

I bought a rival electric griddle about five months ago and the non stick surface has already begun to peel off, I did use the correct cleaning products and utensils for cooking. can you help me
non stick surface is peeling off, and everything sticks

I purchased Model SCVP609 from Costco April 2008. I noticed right away that the crockpot got extremely hot inside and out. I felt it got way too hot to be left on while I am at work. I contimplated returning it, but didn't.
Then on my third use, the plastic handle on the glass lid, completely broke off, making it nearly imposible to remove the lid. After reading the many complaints on this website, I am sure I will not get a positive response from Rival.
I contacted RIVAL VIA the contact us link on their website three days ago. Still no response. Their phone line shuts down at 5 eastern time, which is 2 in Arizona making it nearly impossible to get a hold of Rival. The previous crockpot I owned was 20 years old and I only replaced it because I wanted one to fit in with my new kitchen decor, big mistake. I will attempt to return it to COSTCO without my receipt and post a response on this board if I am successful.

The crock pot lid handle separated from the glass lid when I lifted it off of my meal being cooked in the crock pot. Luckily, I was close to the sink and the lid fell into the sink instead of on the floor or on me. I called Rival to request a replacement lid, thought they would be concerned and happy that no injuries occurred and was told my one year warranty had expired. When I told the girl I would not buy a Rival product again, she replied with a surly response of I thought you would say that. Consumer happiness and safety were of no concern to this company.
Also, there is no way to contact them to file a complaint with the CEO. I am throwing out the pot I have, especially after reading all of the other concerns and will replace mine and those of my 3 kids' households with a safe and reliable brand. Out with Rival forever!
Fortunately I was able to find all of the broken plastic pieces and felt assured that none had fallen into our meal, although I checked the food carefully anyway. No one choked, no glass broke, no hot splashes. We were lucky.

I will be buying another slow cooker, and you can bet it's not going to be another Rival. My old one was thrown out before I even knew about the recall - and that one was covered under the recall, but I didn't know anything about it. The current crockpot came with a small one called a Lil Dipper or something like that - I used that puppy once and it burned the cheese sauce. Fun - not! But it doesn't have any temperature settings, so that's obviously defective. I've ruined quite a few things, and have had a lot of messes to clean up.

Rival recalled many of their bases of their crock pots. Several months ago, I followed the instructions of their website, confirmed that my model was affected. So, I filled-out an online form, cut-off the plug portion of the crock pot and sent it with the appropriate information where told.
Now, I've still received no new base, my crock pot doesn't work since I had to cut off the plug and send it in. Additionally, there is no way to contact them without the number on the plug (which I mailed to them).

The following items purchased were found to be not fit to cook in due to ceacks through and through. Food leakes through the walls of the ceramic pots. 1.5 quart Rival crock pot and 2 7 quart pots.
Had to be discarded. The problem developed after about a month, same as 4 cooking events.

I sent letter to Rival about 2 Smart Crock Pots which the handle on lid got too hot and melted off hardware holding handle on. One is over a year old and the other is about 9 months old. My letter was returned, not deliverable.
Trying to use these lids with out prpoer handles causes splashes and or steaming burns.

I purchased a smart pot 38601 from costco in Jan 2008. on April 1 the loop handle broke off the glass lid where it surrounds the bolt. I cannot find a replacement or a new lid either. THis was supposed to be a good quality product. I am so disappointed and frustrated. I will not buy this brand again.
The top fell into the bowl and splattered hot liquid everywhere. I can no longer use it safely. I have to replace the whole pot to solve the problem. Since I did not save the receipt I cannot even take it back.

Today Rival sent me not only a new lid to replace the broken hinge, but a new cooker. I want to be sure that they get credit for standing behind their product. Posting on this website got their attention. Thank you.
They replaced the unit.

Rival crockpot broke off while taking chicken wings to a party. Wings ended up in the dirt and none could be salvaged.

The hinge broke right away & I was lucky that my guests did NOT swallow the plastic. Can I use Billy May's Mighty Putty to build up the crumbled plastic? Will a section of metal coat hanger work in the slot? This is your unit and you can do this if you wish.
Unsatisfactory solution for a brand new unit.

I recieved a Rival Crock Pot Model SCVS600 for Christmas. My sister said it was the nicest one at Target. Well, it's suppose to be portable, but I don't think so. I used it once, and the part on the lid that holds it shut broke off. My sister took it back to Target and they replaced it because she had only bought it a week before and had the reciept, and box. I used the second crock pot from mid January until April 15, maybe twice a month...and guess what, it broke in the exact same spot.
I can not find a replacement lid online. I am not hard on my kitchen tools...my first crock pot I got when I was first married, it lasted 10 years, and was an off brand cheapo. If Rival can not do better than this I will not use their products.

This is the second crock pot from Rival that my family has purchased where it stopps completely working.
The clock to set for a certain time to cook does not work. The light sets the crock does not cook.

I received the Rival Smart Pot for Christmas. It is a beautiful red oval shape with digital. Whenever it is plugged in, within a few minutes the entire kitchen smells like cat pee no matter what I am cooking! It happened the very first time it was plugged in and I just figured it was an odd smell and would go away after the first use, but it is still there almost 4 months later and using it at least twice per week!

Got a Rival stainless crockpot with a detachable lid aprx. 1 month ago. I have used it maybe 4 times. The screw and small rod lost in cleaning yesterday so the lid cannot be attached. I took it to the local Target, they would not replace the crockpot because I didn't have a receipt even though it was broken. In reading the complaints above, it doesn't sound like Rival stands behind there products so I basically have to go buy a new crockpot. It won't be a Rival and I won't be getting it at Target.

Rival Crockpot smart crockpot #SCVP609H given as gift this year. Used approx. 5 times. A few day ago set up to cook spareribs and had plenty of water over them. Set for slow 8hrs. and it is to go to warm after the time expired. Came home around 9th hr. to find my house filled with smoke and the food in the crockpot was burnt black and making a hissing noise. I unplugged it immediately. Then found the heat was so hot it cracked the insert and their was (what fluid was left) in the metal cooking part and leaked onto the cutting board it was on (for safety).
My house would have burnt down if I did not get home just in time!

I see that I have some of the same complaints as the others on the Rival crock pot; broken handles on the side(they got hot enough to crumble to pieces)and same with handle on the lid.
This is the fifth one through the last
25 yrs it would be nice if they replced
their defective product. Next time I
purchase it will be a different brand.

Crockpot model SCVP600 cooked for approx. 10hrs. When I lifted the lid the knob broke off of the lid causing the lid to drop back down into the pot and splashing boiling liquid out of the pot. Examining the knob I found the connecting plastic had melted into soft stringy goo. This could have caused a very serious scald.
Calling the Rival customer service line I learned this crockpot is not part of any current recall. I see online Rival has had this issue in the past with other models. Customer service advised I could buy another lid when they were back in stock. I could not help but wonder if they are out of stock because there are millions of them melting off? I believe the model should be reviewed for recall.

Rival electric skillet model #s16RB: The nonstick surface is coming off in less than 6 months of use. The correct utensils were used. Can you help in this matter? Thank you.

I purchased a Rival crock-pot model SCV601 in late 2007. The handle on the lid cracked, but it was still usable. Yesterday it fell off completely while I was cooking. I can't seem to locate a replacement on the web. After finding your site and reading all the complaints, I had no idea there was such a problem with Rival. I guess this is the price we pay for having products made in China, and not paying attention when we purchase. Is there anything made in the good USA anymore?

My handle fell off just now, and my crockpot overheats and burns and dries out meat from overcooking. I went online to find a handle and ran into this site. Now with the extended education, I believe I may purchase a completely different brand. Thank you for the info.

I received Rival Crockpot Model SCR509 as a gift November 2006. After using it just a few times, the lid handle cracked but it was still usable. Now after using it several times, the handle is completely gone. Luckily, my family was not injured when it finally broke completely.

Used once during weekend while home (thankfully), cooked a med. roast, carrots and potatoes. Within two hours the exterior of the Crockpot was in excess of 165 degrees. Contacted Rival and they sent a new one. Tried again and the exterior of the crockpot exceeded 184 degree with in 2 hours. Response from Crockpot is as follows:
Thank you for contacting us. The newer units do cook at a higher temperature to allow the unit to cook the food faster. When using the crockpot, it is best to adjust the cooking times and also make sure that you have the adequate amount of food for the size of the unit being used. Also to prevent burning, you can also add liquids like water, chicken broth, of beef broth. The only setting that the unit will not cook on is the warm setting. The low setting will still bring the food to a boil. On the low setting after 1 hour it will get up to 115 degrees, after 2 hours 150 degrees, at three hours 175 degrees, at four hours 190 degrees, and at 5 hours 200 degrees, and 5 or more hours at 212 degrees. On the high setting, food will cook at 120 degrees in one hour, 170 in two hours in three hours 190, four hours 205, five to six hours 212 degrees. When using the unit, make sure that it is on a heat resistant surface and it is also suggested to not leave the unit unattended. I hope this information is helpful. I just don't believe this unit is safe, we have been using crockpots for over 20 years and I've never seen one that had the potential to burn you or start a fire or even need to be monitored. Don't know how many times we've started the crockpot and gone off to work...

My husband just bought me this Rival Crock Pot model # SCVP609 from Costco last month. It was my first time to use it tonight. Just when I was taking the stoneware out of the heating base, I accidentally tipped it. When the hot food touched the glass lid, the lid cracked and broke into many pieces right into the food!
Because the lid broke right on top, we ended up with no home cooked dinner tonight. Being a working mom, this was frustrating because we bought the crockpot to save us some time and still have a nice dinner together. We had to buy fast food to eat in place of the food wasted, clean up the mess, and basically wasted time and money for the food now in the trash. Money was wasted on a crockpot that needs a lid that I can't seem to find anywhere!

The handle on the slow cooker got so hot it broke off. It is not part the recall.
This is dangerous and should be noted.
