Perfect Flame Gas Grills

Carl of Hampton, VA January 13, 2009

Carl of Hampton VA (01/13/09)
Yes, put me on the list of the Perfect Flame (SLG2007A) flame burner fires. This unit started in the center burner with a fire about six to eight inches above the cooking surface. Shutting off the center burner the left burner started a small fire from a burn through. Shutting down and cooling off the stove and inspecting, center burner had a hole burnt through, left burner had a crack opened up and the right burner was cracked. All the cracks and holes were on the top and or left and right side of the burners.

Further inspection revealed that the tubing was made of what is called (welded tubing) and the heat effective area of the weld was on the top of the tubing causing a severe fatigue situation in the metal. #1 Cracks and burn through. #2 Welded tubing and heat effected area. #3 .250 heat effective area. Ordered replacement Parts.

We purchased a perfect flame gas grill from Lowes on 6-14-08. The flame has been a problem from the beginning. But on 12-26-08, while warming the grill up to cook chicken, it caught on fire. There were flames shooting out everywhere and underneath. We thought the propane tank was going to explode. The temp on the grill gauge was 900 degrees. The stainless steel is black and the rotisserie & other parts are melted. It took about 15 minutes to extinguish. This grill always flamed up more then our previous weber, but this time it was completely engulfed in flames.

I have the original receipt from Lowes, the grill was 598.00 and with tax the total is 633.00. The rotisserie was an additional purchase of 35.00.

I purchased a Perfect Flame grill from Lowes about 18 months ago. While preheating the grill, a fire broke out under the grill. The three main burners were all set at about 80% of full. The fire melted the controls and appeared to start as a breakdown in the gas line to the console. A fire such as this is unacceptable on a reasonably new grill. In my opinion, the grill used inferior gas line connectors that broke down from the heat. I was forced to reach into oven-like temperatures to crank down the propane tank so that the fire could be extinguished.

Fortunately, my only loss is a 200 gas grill and the hair on my arm. I fared much better than another local resident that saw his home go up in flames this weekend. I have pictures if needed.
