Perfect Flame Gas Grills

Mark of Fredericksburg, VA July 15, 2009

Bought the PERFECT FLAME 4 burner grill, made exclusive to LOWE'S by BBQTEK. There is a major recall for this grill that came out AFTER I bought this grill. The firebox is made out of a ALUMINUM/MAGNESIUM alloy...that the METAL catches fire and melts. I had this grill for a year. Then one day made some hamburgers. I left gill on high for 5 mins to go eat my burgers (the manual says 15 mins to clean). I came back and grill was a raging inferno. Two fires happening...a grease fire and a chemical fire. Metal was on fire, so white I couldn't look at it. SO hot, I could bare be close to it. I used a 5 lb fire extinguisher to NO avail. In fact, it blew the hot, flaming metal all over my NEW 8,000 deck where it scorched the wood. Called 911 to get help. While they were responding, I got a garden hose on it and put it out just as they were responding. I got burned in the process.

After a year having our grill it caught fire. The temp on the grill gauge was at its max. The paint peeled away on the inside. We immediatly shut the grill off. After we started it agin we noticed the middle burner had a crack in it. After the incident & unable to find replacement parts at Lowes, we only used the left & right burners. It has been 23 months since our purchase & have been unable to use is at all this summer because the other two tubes have finally cracked. We keep our grill under a covered area under a grill cover. It is very disappointing that a larger model made by this manufacture has been recall but for those of us that did not pay over 300 for a grill that it is not under the same recall.

I bought my Perfect Flame slg2007A 2 years ago. As a single mom I wanted to be able to get an affordable grill that I was told could hold up with limited use. The grill is kept under a covered overhang & has a grill cover. As this grilling season started, I noticed higher flames at the back of the left & center burners. I only used the right burner until I had a chance to clean out the grill & adjust the burners- that is when I noticed the center burner has a large crack and chunk missing at the back. The left burner also is cracked. At Lowes I was able to purchase a Universal Burner, however I can not remove the original burners-the screws & bolts are covered in grilling soot and will not come off. I have had several neighbors come and try to remove the screws-using all kinds of tools, with no luck.

I went on-line to find out what I can use to clean this, but everything led me to the BBQdepot, they want 30 just to speak to a technician. When I found this ConsumerAffairs site and read other consumers reports, I realize I am lucky I stopped using the cracked burners before the fires others had expereince. Now I am afraid to repair what I have, I guess I will return the Universal Burners and write this off as a learning expereince not to trust the neighborhood Lowes salesmen.

Burner burned out within 18 months of purchase. Also, the lid coating is coming loose on the inside. Not very good quality.

DAVID of NORTH AUGUSTA, SC June 20, 2009

I was grilling with my Perfect Flame model SLG2007A and I started seeing flames comping out of my grill. After I was about to shut the grill and gas tank turned off, I noticed that the gas line had been melted off. The line was melted through and was burning the tank. Thankfully I was around the grill when it happened or the tank would have exploded with my wife and children in the area. There needs to be a recall on this model, very dangerous.

Joseph of FAIRFIELD GLADE, TN June 17, 2009

We purchased our Perfect Flame Gas grill and tank the end of the summer 2008. We used it a total of 10-15 times. Last night I used it to grill pre-boiled chicken with out the skin. When I went to shut off the grill the first burner would not shut off. I proceed to shut of the tank and with the valve turned off, it was still burning. I had to disconnect the gas tank to shut off. I think all these grills made by this company should be recalled and our money refunded. If China made the other models with defects, what makes us think that all of them are not defective.

My perfectflame SLG2008A gas grill caught on fire and we had a hard time putting it out. Two of the three burners were cracked and after trying to put it out with a fire extinguisher without result, we had to use a garden hose...grill is a total loss

Mark of Dyersburg, TN June 8, 2009

I purchased a Perfect Flame grill from Lowes last April. I have a grill cover for the grill and keep it covered. I uncovered it this month to use it and one burner had a large hole in it. Lowes does not carry replacement parts so I called BBQTEK and after holding on for 21 minutes I finally hung up. Now I have a perfectly good grill and no burners. The owners manual states the burners have a 10 year limited warranty. How does one get warranty parts?

Sal of Clarkston, MI June 6, 2009

The Perfect Flame Gas Grill I purchased @ Lowes of White Lk. Mi. was a fine grill for 1 season of grilling. (less than) 1 yr the burners have rotten and fallen apart, no replacement parts are available @ Lowes and the replacement burners cost 24.25 apiece plus shipping and handling. What a joke I will never understand why a company like Lowes continues to carry such shoddy merchandise. Lowes has lost a good customer as I will never shop their again. Home Depot will get all of my business from now on.

Suzanne of Fairport, NY June 1, 2009

While looking for replacement burners for my Perfect Flame BBQ, I came across comments from other owners of this model SLG2006B. I have had a similar experience of the entire unit catching fire (not from a flare-up) The heat was so intense that it seared the siding on the house. The inside of the cover is now peeling, and while doing my spring BBQ check-up, found the 2 middle burners completely broken in 2 pieces while the other burners are cracked.

The replacement burner range avg 35 each and would like to replace them but the screws holding them to the back plate have all rusted and impossible to remove. I had no complaint until the fire and the burners breakdown. This unit is covered at all times and I have been BBQing & maintaining my grills for the last 35 years (during which I owned a Sunbeam and a CharBroil that lasted an average of 15 years each) I feel that this Perfect Flame is a fire hazard and built with inferior quality material
