Home Warranties Not Always What They Seem

Dale of Greenville TX (09/28/08)
NHP has lied to us on several occasions. Our 1st complaint came from our washer going out. We called and it took 3 days and several calls to find a contractor who would deal with them, Finally we got one who said the washer needed to be replaced. We called NHP and they said they would offer us a buy out. In other words they offered 250.00 toward a new washer. I told them this was not what we had agreed to in our contract. Then all of a sudden the contractor can fix the old one and works for 3 days and finally gets it fixed, kind of as it still leaks oil all over the floor when ran.

Next we had a hot water heater go out, We tried for q week to get a contractor to fix it, After 4 diffrent referrals one finally came out. Said it needed to be replaced, The contractor tried to call NHP but was on hold for an hour. He left. We then contacted NHP and told them the deal, They said they do not cover the outside of the water heater (Tank), Once again I was told the policy covered all major appliances in the home when I bought the plan. I asked a supervisor to please call me 3 times and no one ever called us. This home warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on.

I spent 450.00 on a warranty pluss 45.00 per service call to have a washer that is half fixed, and a water heater that is broken and I have to replace. I never got the home depot 50.00 card either.

I signed up for home warranty protection in Dec 2007 thinking I will be saving premium for my rental properties and will even get home depot gift certificate but that did not happen. On February 2008, I found out that the coverage that I got from my property did not include AC and was not disclosed by the representative at that time. I cancelled that account and finally was answered after numerous phone calls and faxes.

However the horrible story did not end here , I was needing service for my other property that when I called their office I found out that it was not covered so I requested cancellation and the rep said yes. So I just signed up with another home warranty company. I was out of the country so I was not able to monitor if the money was refunded. Unfortunately, when I got back I had to report a problem in another property and found out that AGAIN it is not a covered service under that plan and to can not upgrade. I requested cancellation and was advice that I should get it in 2-4 days.

Today, as I was reviewing my statements, I have not recieved any refund for all properties. I called their office and with a long wait spoke with a supervisor and advise that no refund will happen even with the long term contract. Their service is very poor , people are rude.

This has caused aggravation . I had to purchase new home warranty for my properties thinking that I was covered with NHP and has the peace of mind but only to suffer from no customer support and fraud.

I'm on Full Disability, so since buying the home 10 years ago I'm maintained a Home Warrenty on it..to prevent high cost of replacements, and I maintain the units to try to prevent breakdowns. I purchased the Warrenty in April 2-3, 2008, after receiving my income Tax check. Becasue of health problems, I had been running my AC, for aobut a Month, Well I was put in the Hospitalfor a week.. While in there, my AC unit blew a line in the outside unit, and it could not be repaired.

I called HOme Proctection and filed a service request. They came and tested the lines an found that there was a hole in one of the coils.. I called and worote emails to them for 3 weeks, after about 5 weeks I received a letter saying I was turned down because the unit was NOT clean and that is what caused the blow out.. I sent them all of my yearly service contracts for cleaning and maintaining the unit since I purchased the home. They still would not fix it.. The company who they sent out .. gave me a copy of the repair form with NOTHING checked on it. after they found the leak in the coil.

I called in the maintance comp. for a second opinion, and they said that NO it was not becasue unit was dirty, but, tha the hole was caused my the normal viberations when the units were running. So, becasue these folks did not do what their contract says, I had to spend 4,900 to replace the unit my self. NO local Lawyers would take the case becasue they said that They or I would NOT get paid even if we won the case in court! ON full disability, I had to borry the money from my 72 year old mother, to have AC to maintain my health! Becaue of having 3 heart attacks and 2 bypasses.

I never received the 50 Home Depot card for signing up with them either.. SO, I lost approximately 5,450 including the payment of the contract, cost of AC replacement and the 50 promised home depot Card, because of Sham of this company.. Any help you lawyers can give me would be really appreciated!

IWhen i found out you guys exist, i got excited and called, rep was very positive and friendly, and made me comfortable. Long story short, it looks like it all scam. My garagedoor opener broke on Monday or Tuesday (August 3 - 2, 2008) I called you guys, it took you few days to find a repair shop in Jacksonville, which is 90 miles away. I called them (Atlantic Overhead Door) yesterday, they said how will i be paying? I explained, and they said you (NHP owes them money already, they will not work it out. So I called local place, they gave me an estimation of 438.

I let one of your reps called local people too and talked to Jennifer from Brunswick Overhead Door company. Jennifer called me she said your company gave her a little hard time, but agreed on price. I got a phone call from NHP 2 minutes later, and ver sarcastic rep told me 438 is too much, they can only reimburse me 250. That time i really thought he was joking. Anyways, replacement garagedoor operner is being installed tomorrow. Weeks ago (today is Sep 2nd)they said my 205 SEMI reimbursmanet would be mailed in 15 days. Still NOTHING

I paid 438, I want the difference, and immediate cancellation of policy.

I too was ripped off by National Home Protection (NHP). I had three (3) breakdowns and not only did NHP NOT provide the Home Warranty coverage they promised (REPAIR OR REPLACE), I ALSO NEVER RECEIVED the 50 Home Depot Gift Card rebate, which was an incentive for purchasing the Home Warranty. I was told that my rebate form was postmarked on April 4, 2008 after the time frame for mailing in the request. However, my rebate form was POSTMARKED and mailed on February 19, 2008, well within the time frame. My husband is a Postal Service employee and he had the postage stamp on the envelope for my rebate submission, HAND CANCELED. This company is a BIG SCAM.

I live in Florida and NHP is NOT LICENSED TO DO BUSINESS IN THE STATE OF FL; therefore, they should NEVER HAVE SOLD ME A HOME WARRANTY!

I have filed complaints with about ten (10) agencies. I am now waiting for responses to my complaints. I have also filed complaints with various investigative news agencies.
