Michigan Bulb Company

Charlie of Saint Louis, MO March 3, 2009

Charlie of Saint Louis MO (03/03/09)
I don't like the fact that they continue to operate as Michigan Bulb Co. I purchased from them, years ago, and was satisfied with the transactions. But now that they have apparently gone out of business, and the company name was purchased by another company, Scarlet Tanager, I am not sure I want to risk dealing with them, especially in light of the complaints I have been reading in this forum. It seems to me that Scarlet Tanager is trying to buy customers' trust in the established company when they use a previously established company's name.

My order was for over a hundred dollars. Several of the plants died, which I felt partly to blame. I phoned Michigan Bulb Company of my losses and they sent me replacements, no questions asked. This made me very happy. I highly recommend MBC.

There is no 800# to call. I called twice to get a key number from the e-mail I received. There is none and was told over and over there was. I noticed an accent in the person's voice and asked if I was speaking to someone in India. Yes, I was. Enough said. I ripped up my order, threw the catalog in the trash and told them to take me off of their e-mail list. I don NOT deal with any company that outsources their jobs. I will buy locally from now on.

I bought a rose bush and several srubs from them. They died within the first year. We contacted Michigan bulb and they replaced them. Well, when we received the plants we planted them immediatley. Our rose bush was (notice I said was) supposed to be a Nearly Black rose bush. This was even stated on the label. It turned out to be somewhere between an orange and pink color and the bushes died again.

I am on disbility due to my back and other issues. I spent hours trying to care for these plants. I spent money and effort with nothing to show for it. I'm tired of folling with them. I tired of calling them. I've just chalked this one up to experience and will purchase items from nurseries around here because most of them have any where from a 60 to 90 day warranty and I'll know by then whether or not y purchase will live. I will not recommend Michigan Bulb to any one else.

I am just adding yet another complaint about Michigan Bulb Co. I have ordered many plants from them over the last two years with many problems related to dead plants and refunds. I always send a check for the plants and they always cash my check far ahead of mailing these plants. As far as I know, most companies do not get the funds until the merchandise is on its way to the customer. They do not have an 800# which makes it difficult to contact them. What company nowadays doesn't have an 800# for customer convenience? I have found my emails to also go unanswered to them.

The last straw for me was an order which was never sent until it was way past planting time. After no email communication, I called Michigan Bulb and they said that they send plants to areas even if there is snow on the ground (Huh?) for planting? I'll be darned if I am going to get out in the cold and snow to plant something that shouldn't even have been sent. I gave them a piece of my mind and stated that I would not be ordering from them again. I have had it with that company!
