Our Maytag Atlantis dryer had smoke coming out and almost had our house on fire! Had it not for us double checking the entire house would have burnt down! The dryer is less than 10 years old and already it is tearing apart. I can't risk using it again. Terrible company. I would never buy Maytag products ever again!
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

It's about Maytag MDE7600AYW Atlantis electric dryer issues, Nov 2005 model. There is an obvious design flaw. I have replaced the automatic dryer control board twice since 2005. The unit simply never shuts off, or cooks your clothes for 2 hours. Who will recall this unit and fix the circuit? They will not admit their error.

In the last 6 years my husband and I have bought the high end front load Maytag washers and both have crapped out within the year. I will never buy another product from this company again. Their customer service was no help and the washer needs to be rebuilt. We are waiting for parts which are back ordered months in advance. I will have no washing machine for at least 2 months. I do not trust any product made by Maytag and any company who sells Maytag should be ashamed to sell their product. There is nothing that I have experienced that would make me trust this company whatsoever!

After several attempts to fix the main bearing in the bottom plate that holds the tub in place, it finally rocked the tub out of balance to the point it disconnected the hose and flooded my basement. They came and replaced the bearing but it was still not right. It was the biggest pile of junk I have ever owned. I also heard it was not really a true Maytag, but an inferior brand bought out by Maytag, and the Maytag name added. Such poor representation by Maytag. Shame, shame, shame on you. Maytag did pay for the insurance claim of $8,000, that would lead me to believe that it was a major issue with the Atlantis model. Never will I buy a Maytag again!

My Atlantis dryer has never been able to be used on more/less dryer settings, I have had 4 repairmen repair my dryer 3 were while dryer was under warranty to fix the same thing 3 times wiring 4th time, anyway last repairman said my More dry won't work because I never had a sensor installed in my dryer and there is not a place for one so since 2005. I've used timed dry only or my dryer runs all the time. I am concerned the first 3 repairmen never caught this. I should not have to be responsible for this either. Please have a manager contact me and have them check into my Atlantis Maytag dryer bought in 2005 and all the repair slips sent to Maytag.
I used Green Yates in Joplin. Pretty sure. I thought I just had to live with it they would put new parts on I think timer, thermostats anyway can someone tell me for sure or inspect for yourself. I am single and dryer never used that much. Concerned Consumer, Nancy **/ Nancy ** as that name had front loader set from Maytag that I was very pleased with but sold with home in KC area, wish I had that set again I was very pleased .Thanks for your time.

I got no help whatsoever. I will never buy in Maytag again. My washer has had 3 problems in 1 year. They tell you that they will send someone out the next day but they don't come until 4-5 days later.

My Maytag Front Load Washer Model MHWE200XW purchased from Sears had a malfunctioning spin cycle. The authorized Maytag repairman from Landers, with support from a Maytag technician by phone, did not know how to repair it. The machine had light use over the past 15 months, and hence was not covered under warranty. So I am out $650 for the machine and $200 for the repair that resulted in continued and even worse malfunctioning. Unfortunately for me, the tests did not show any errors and the machine did not state any error. It just would not spin and then would not allow the door to open. It is a lemon and I do not recommend its purchase.

I had a Maytag washer and dryer for over 25 years. I loved them so I replaced them with the Maytag name. They are not the same company as far as pride and product workmanship.
From the get go it always had a dirty odor to the tub, as though the clothes had been left in it for days. I was told to just run through a cycle with bleach, but nothing. There is no lint collector and after about 8 years of using this washer, the old lint is in the bottom of my washer after every wash. Now, I have to deal with the thing coming to a screeching stop, not spinning out the water after the wash cycle. Sometimes it's full of water and other times some water drained, but the clothes are full of water and not spun out.
Now tonight, I went downstairs and found water on the floor, it's leaking. My question is to call and get it repaired or not waste my money and go buy another brand. I may go with the latter.
I purchased a fridge and dryer at Home Depot a few years ago. I wanted to stay away from Maytag name. I purchased another name only to find out it is part of Maytag. No wonder I'm having trouble with my fridge, making ghost-like howling sounds so loud it consumes the entire house. So annoying. Stay away from Maytag. They are not the same reliable, take-pride-in-work company.

Our first (and last) experience buying anything made by Whirlpool. I bought a matching Maytag Series 2000 washer and dryer in February 2011. By July, the washer was at 747 take-off noise level when hitting the spin cycle. I called Whirlpool, who directed me to their local repair firm. I called them on August 2nd and had a service rep visit on August 9th. He looked a 30-second look and advised that the bearing assembly was shot and that the spin basket required replacing.

I purchased the Maytag Atlantis Washer and dryer in 2004. I had the washer transmission replaced in 2006, I believe. For about a year now, the washer makes an awful screeching noise. I am not sure if it's towards the end of the spin cycle or the rinse cycle, or both. In addition (and over the last 3-4 years), the dial sticks or stalls every delicate cycle. It will stop during the initial agitating and all you can hear is a ticking noise, in which you then have to manually give the dial a slight turn for the cycle to continue. It does it once on the light delicate and twice on the normal delicate. It really is a shame that Maytag is not acknowledging all of these problems as it is not feasible for most people to have a spare $1500 kicking around for a new washer and dryer every time they unfortunately buy a lemon. My previous washer and dryer were 25 years old and still working perfectly when I decided to part with them because they were fairly small. I don't even ever recall having any issues with either one of them in the whole 25 years that I had them. To see all of these complaints makes me more irritated with my appliances and my selection!

In September 2008, I purchased a Maytag washing machine (Model MTW5700TQ0) that had a faulty transmission. The machine was immediately replaced. Three years later, the transmission is again faulty. Maytag has refused any responsibility for repair or replacement.

I purchased an Atlantis washer in 2005 and assumed that Maytag was still one of the better manufacturers. How naive of me!
What genius at Maytag thought it was a good idea to place the water filter inside the washer? Not only can you not keep the filter clean so that cold water will flow properly, even worse, if the filter completely clogs, the water will not stop filling into the tub which could, of course cause an overfill and flood. I narrowly escaped this scenario once. No one should have to stand and watch their machine fill with water to insure it stops. Now the machine is causing a grinding noise when agitating. I expect it to stop working any day. I will not buy another Maytag or Whirlpool, who of course now owns Maytag. And I will not pay another repair bill for the filter or any other part. The brand was once considered the best in America, now it's just another brand that's a piece of junk produced in another country.

Purchased an Admiral Washer on 07/19/2010 from Home Depot in May of 2011 was washing clothes and washer flooded my wash room. Cold water would not turn off. Had to use shutoff valve on wall. Called for service through Maytags toll free number it took me 10 days to get through, then I was told that they did not have anyone in my area that could fix my washer that was still under warranty and there was nothing they could do. I called Home Depot and they said there was nothing they could do it was the manufactor problem.I Called several appliance repair places that advertise as maytag repair and they would not touch it!
Called back in July of 2011 could not reach anyone at maytag service. My warranty expired 07/19/2011,yesterday 08/08/2011 I recieved a letter from Maytag wanting me to buy an extended warranty.I called an ask them why I should buy an extended warranty when they wouldn't even honor the original warranty they pulled up the records where I had called for service and told me I should have kept calling back that they take care of their customers etc. etc. but there was nothing they could do now because the washer was out of warranty.I called about a new water valve for this washer $56 for part $100 for labor including service call. Now I faced with a decision try to repair this piece of junk or scrap it a buy a new washer( not a Maytag or a Whirlpool) I am not rich I am elderly and live on a fixed income, it took me 6 months to pay off this washer at Home Depot!!!!!

I purchases a Maytag Front Loading Wash Mashine 12/2010. Model # MHWE550WW01, Serial # CS01204606. Called and reported issue to 1-800-688-6777. Service was scheduled to come repair the "broken" baffles inside the washing machine. A&E arrived on 6/23 to inspect the problem - they did not have any parts on the service truck - they had to be ordered. The repairman said I could install them myself. I refused and had A&E come back to install the baffles due to the warranty. The "new" baffles were installed on 6/23; today 6/29 the baffles snapped again. I called Maytag (Whirlpool) immediately and let them know I was very unhappy since they were repaired 7 days ago.
I demanded a new machine (I paid $804.12 just for the washing machine. I was offered an extended service agreement for 1 year, I requested a new machine. I explained I could not keep going through this every couple of days or months. Dina told me they would not replace my washer I asked to speak with someone higher and was told she is the highest it could go. I requested the address for the executive office, it was given to me. Service was rescheduled now with A & E for 7/6 and an additional 1 year service agreement. My concern is this will continue to be an issue with this wash machine.

No, it was not out-of-balance (been washing the same king comforters in this machine for 7+ yrs), tried the other spin cycle, etc., nothing worked. Took the comforter out & ran a small test load of clothes - fine. Ran 2 more regular loads of clothes - fine. Tried the comforter again - fine. Ok, so maybe it was a fluke. A couple weeks later, it became extremely loud throughout the entire spin cycle - no more squeal at the end, this is more of a "cleared for take-off" loud (actually sounds like a plane winding up). These machines are almost 8 yrs old now so I looked up the washer's "symptoms" and found it's a problem w/the drive which is a $4-500 fix. SCREW THAT, MAYTAG! I've babied these machines from day one (they look brand new, I buy special cleaners to clean them - inside & out, I vacuum the dryer, etc.) & I'm not putting any more time, effort or money into them - I'm done! I have had it w/Maytag & Whirlpool (also have issues w/Whirlpool fridge & dishwasher that were well taken care of, too).
Used to be, you could buy a Maytag or Whirpool appliance & you'd be proud of how well they worked & how long they lasted - now they are just junk. I forgot to mention - the washer is very hard on clothes, towels, sheets - I have always had to wash one level below, i.e., wash cotton on permanent press, wash permanent press on delicate, et al. I decided to do some research before the washer gave out so I would know what to buy rather than be panicked. After doing my research, I decided not to wait on the damn thing to die so I'm anticipating delivery of my new LG ultra capacity, high efficiency set on Friday. Can't wait to see them haul that Maytag Atlantis crap out of my house - good riddance!

Purchased a top of the line Maytag washer and dryer after I was assured that it was the best. The machines were not delivered on time, and when they were installed, the washer was faulty.

My husband and I purchased a Maytag Atlantis (Model: MAV6451AWW) at AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Services) in 2006 while living in housing at Fort Huachuca, Az. I thought, finally, I could afford to buy a high end washer and dryer--not that my Roper Whirlpool was giving me issues because it wasn't. I just needed a large machine to do my growing family's laundry without being home all day to do it.
We were not having issues with it until today, 1 May 2011, when I hear a noise coming from the washer like my clothes were trying to fight their way out of the wash. When I looked, I thought it was just off balance and I rearranged the laundry. It was fine for a bit to only start again. So, I propped the lid open and watched it during the spin cycle. I could clearly see that the bucket was not spinning properly--it was skipping. I told my husband it has to be the motor because when it begins to skip, something is definitely wrong. I also noticed more water in my clothing after the spin cycle. Sigh.

I purchased a new washing machine, Maytag Atlantis in September of 2004. My washing machine has problems. The repair man said that the transmission is out of it already. Looking online, this is an ongoing problem. There are several complaints about this machine. I believe the lemon law should be in place for this washing machine. I would like a refund.

My Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV8757AWQ) which we bought in 2003 started having problems with the spin cycle in 2009. I would sometimes have to repeat the rinse and spin cycle. The next problem was the loud racket the spin cycle made and the machine would sometimes seize. Then it started to leak during the spin cycle. Thanks to the input from people on this website, we were able to sort out a solution. We bought a thrust bearing kit and a triple lip seal and bearing kit. The triple lip seal and bearing replacement was a very difficult job but I think it solved the problem.
After all the hours and money ($170) we spent fixing these problems, I hope I am able to use this washer for a few more years. I am sending Whirlpool a letter with all of my bills. I read that after Maytag bought Amana, it had to cut costs so it started using cheaper parts. I will never buy any Whirlpool products or any of the other brands they own again!

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer in 2006 and have had repairmen out a couple of times to deal with issues regarding the spin cycle and water draining. Now, my floor is covered in grease and oil. The repairman who came out today said that this machine is actually a Magic Chef machine not Maytag! The transmission is blown and needs to be replaced. The cost will be at least $450.00. The repairman advised us to buy a new washer. I looked online tonight and was amazed to find over eight pages of consumer complaints echoing my problems. If these many people have posted these problems, I can only imagine how many times these machines have let families down.

My Maytag Atlantis (model# MAV8551AWW) is 5 years old and started making a shrieking sound when spinning. Repair man said that the gears are bad, changed the belt and said for me to look for another washing machine. I have read that Maytag trashed these machines. Also, that Whirpool bought Maytag out. So what it one suppose to do. I would think that Whirlpool should give Maytag Atlantis owners a rebate to purchase a Whirlpool washer. Otherwise, I am going with Kenmore.

My husband and I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer on October 13, 2005. The set has worked perfectly until last week when the washer started making a loud noise and wouldn't agitate. We called a repairman and were shocked when we were told that the transmission and clutch belt needed to be replaced.
Apparently, from looking at the posts of other Atlantis washer owners, this is a common problem. I called Maytag today to see if they would honor their 5-year warranty on the transmission since it only expired 3 weeks ago. First, I had a forty minute wait on the phone to be told that I needed to speak with the extended warranty folks since "they could do more for me"; another forty minutes later I was told that I had wasted my time talking to them since my extended warranty had expired 2 years ago. Argh! I will never buy another Maytag appliance as long as I live! Anyone have any suggestions as to what type of washer I should be looking at?

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV1734EWW) and Maytag electric dryer (MDE7400AYW) in June 2003 from Lowe's. We had Maytags before but when we moved, we left them in our old home and purchased what we thought were high quality appliances. The washer has always made screeching noises and doesn't spin the water out of the washed items. In October 2009, the timer on the dryer stopped working. New timer plus labor was $290. The repairman suggested a service policy on both appliances which we signed up for. Thank God because 2 months later, the transmission in the washer stopped working. The policy covered the repairs 100%. This service policy was purchased from a local company and has nothing to do with Maytag.
Now, here we are a year later (Nov 2010) and the washer is making horrible noises again. The last time we tried to use the dryer, it smelled like something was burning inside like the motor? We clean out the dryer vent pipe every month, so that isn't the problem. We are done with Maytag forever! Maytag may have made good appliances once, but the Atlantis models are junk. Tomorrow, we will buy a new washer and a new dryer. I promise you, I will not ever buy another Maytag appliance. I had a 1993 Dodge Caravan that literally fell apart (transmission, motor, abs brakes, etc.), but even that piece of garbage lasted 12 years. My Maytag appliances only made it to about 5 before they began to crash. Maytag = junk.

5 year-old Maytag Atlantis- Transmission is going out. Last on lasted me 20 years. Need to buy a new washer.

We bought the Maytag Atlantic Washing Machine and Dryer in July 2005. About 6 months ago, we noticed the clothes weren't being spun enough and would re-spin. At the same time, the machine would start making noises like the machine was off-balance. We re-situated clothes in the washer (which wasn't needed). Also, the third thing that happened is that when setting the machine on a wash cycle, after the tub was filled, the machine just buzzed instead of going into the wash cycle.
Again, we would prompt the machine to do what it was designed to do and move the timer into the wash mode. I had a technician take a look at the washer and he said the transmission was shot, and wouldn't be cost-effective to repair. Note that this is less than a month after the extended warranty ran out. So, now I am looking to buy another washing machine, but will not be buying another Maytag product. Does anyone know if there has been a recall on this poorly made product? I now have to go and buy a new washing machine. I thought that by purchasing a Maytag that I wouldn't need to buy another washing machine for at least 10 to 15 years, not 5 years.

The Atlantis Dryer purchased on 18 Nov 05 Model # MT-MDE7400AYW s/n 27345101GR, paid a WHOPPING $620.00. Has an obvious manufacturers defect with the timer motor stalling. Causes the unit to continuously run, creating a fire hazard. The unit never stops. Timer unit replaced, same problem. What's the problem? A recall I never heard? I've contacted A-1 Appliance Parts, Inc. 800- (11xxx Memorial Pkwy SW Unit G - Huntsville, AL 35803) for a probable defective replacement part. In the meantime, I would like to know if this is a problem elsewhere, or if a recall has been initiated as other units have been, in your inventory.

We purchased what we thought was a Maytag Atlantis washer. We purchased it in2006. It didn't spin all the water out and then it started to make a grinding noise. Now it has quit completely. We called a repair person and when we gave him the model number he told us that it wasn't made by Maytag but it made by Montgomery Ward and wasn't even worth fixing. We were really upset because we assumed that if it had the Maytag label it would be made by Maytag. It is deceptive to sell a product with another label on it and the washer is faulty.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer set 5 years ago. I had a Maytag set for over 23 years prior to this; however, this is my last Maytag purchase after reading the complaints about this model. I have hated this set since I got it because it does not spin out clothing. You have to make sure you wash the same type of fabrics; you cannot have a sheet in with towels as they come out soaking wet. There are many issues with the pump and thank goodness, my husband has had experience with appliance repair or we would be doing major costs on repairs.
Now, the water temperature control is out. I have had it with the constant re-spinning clothing, removing wet clothes and re-spinning one thing at a time. Now, I realize it was not just my machine, but the entire model. I used to trust this brand as buying the very best. I will not be doing this again and I am angry they have not taken care of the problem if it is this widespread.

We purchased an Atlantis washer 6 years ago. We thought that we were buying a top of the line unit. In 2008 and 2009 it developed a bad vibration during the spin cycle, sometimes it make a loud racket when spinning as well. Called couple times the repair man and he said it was of balanced. Maytag technician couldn't find anything wrong and said it was normal for that machine, redistributed the clothes .We still live with the vibration, once a while. I forgot to mention that the cost of all of the repairs done and the service calls were completely covered under the extended warranty.
August of 2010 (expired warranty) started making grinding noises. We redistributed the clothes and it stopped. We called for repair and the tech immediately said it was a bad pump $ 135; while he was replacing the pump he miss diagnosed "is not the pump, the pump is good, is the motor". Now replacing the motor will cost about $380- $400 and that it was not worth repairing because next may be the transmission, pump, timer etc, etc. The repair technician during his 20 years he had to replaced only twice a motor. It is very rare that the motor will not function in the short life of the washer. He though that is a faulty motor. Spoke with other repair companies to include Sears's technician and they said the same thing; it would cost a lot more to repair the machine than what it is worth! Better buy a new one.

We purchased a Maytag Atlantis Washing Machine (Model MAV8551AWW) in March 2006. 4 days later, there was a knocking noise during agitation. Called repair out, they checked it. Said it was probably off balance. In October 2007, it wouldn't agitate. Repair said transmission had failed. He ordered new transmission & came back and replaced it. I had to pay for trip charge and labor to repair the machine.
Now 3 years later, it started with washing machine making loud spinning noise and then it stopped agitating. The clothes were sopping wet. The machine was also leaking water. This is supposed to be a heavy duty washing machine? I had it looked at by repairman and he said it was the transmission again! He said it would cost about $450 to repair the machine and that it was not worth repairing. Spoke with several other repair companies and they said it would cost a lot more to repair the machine than what it is worth! My first Maytag ran 22 years before it died!

We purchased a matching Maytag Atlantis washer (MAV6461AWW) and dryer in July 2006. The first year we had the lid replaced because it had rusted. It also wasn't spinning out water as well as expected but the Maytag technician couldn't find anything wrong and said it was normal for that machine. We remained leery of the explanation and purchased an extended warranty from Maytag in 2007. The second year, the new lid had rusted but now was not considered a covered item.
In January of 2010 we renewed the warranty again for another year at $110.72. With the original purchase price of $499 plus the extended warranties, we have well over $800 "soaked" into this crummy washer that leaves clothes too wet. We are concerned this is putting too much stress on the dryer.
Jump to June of 2010 and the agitator started making grinding noises. We redistributed the clothes and it stopped but it left even more water in the clothes after spinning. We called for repair and the technician immediately said it was a bad transmission and never even looked at it. He went to the truck to call in for parts and came back with "good news". Maytag won't fix it but we are covered for replacement. Someone from federal Warranty Service Corp. will call us within three days. It has been five days and still no calls.
With over seven pages of complaints, this certainly seems like something that deserves a class action lawsuit. The repairman told me Whirlpool immediately trashed all remaining units when they bought out Maytag.

I'm joining the list of complaints against the Maytag Atlantis washer which I purchased in 2003. It began to be noisy, shift speed mid cycle and went wild when spinning. I was told it is the transmission and am about to buy another machine. I am so disappointed in this machine as I've had two other Maytag machines which lasted me many, many years.
A word to people whose Atlantis washers are still operating. Do some washing machine research before your Atlantis' transmission goes and you have to make a quick decision for a replacement.

In May of 2006 we purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer & dryer. Within the first year the lid rusted out, it was under warranty and replaced. Towards the end of the second year the replacement lid was rusting, but it was not covered under warranty. Now four years later the transmission is shot. Gee do I pay 450.00 to repair this undependable Maytag or do a I buy a Sears Kenmore which I have never had a problem with? Has anybody noticed the Maytag man is no where to be found...he has been very busy!

I will not be buying another Maytag product again. I used to have a 20 year-old Kenmore that was more dependable than this crappy Maytag.

Based on the average life expectancy of a washer, we believe that we got a bad deal, especially considering all of the problems other consumers are reporting. We are experiencing economic hardship, & will most likely have to buy a very basic model washing machine or pay interest on what we buy, due to the fact that we have no cash on hand.

We purchased an Atlantis washer and dryer 7 years ago. We thought that we were buying a top of the line unit, but we have been very disappointed with it. Often if you do a large load it will not spin out the water properly and I have to turn it on spin again. Even then it sometimes seems wetter that I should and it takes forever to dry. Sometimes it make a loud racket when spinning as well. I do use the washer and dryer a lot as I have 3 older kids but I have had lots of different and often lower end washer and dryers that I have had no complaints about. I have a summer home that has a Maytag washer that is at least 30 years old and still going strong. THey sure don't make them like they used to, I will never buy a Maytag again.

I purchased a brand new Maytag Atlantis Model # MAV7504EWW 10/23/04. A week ago, we threw a load in before bed and it stuck on the fill cycle and did not stop. It flooded our house. There is thousands of dollars in damage. If our dog did not start barking and wake us up at 4:00 in the morning because it was entering the office where his kennel was, well the damage would have been worse. All the people complaining about a bad spin cycle have it good. Right now, I am living in a hotel with my house gutted and all my pets traumatized.

I also have a Maytag Atlantis washing machine, model #MAV7600AWW, which has never managed to spin the clothes dry and 99.9% of the time I have to spin the clothes at least twice to get the water out especially if washing a load of jeans or rugs. I thought this was a "heavy duty" machine. Replacing a washing machine is not cheap so I've put up with this lousy machine for a long time now and sadly, I will have to for some time to come because I do not have an extra $600 sitting around to replace this once (allegedly) "top line model" with an "economy" machine. Maytag should return every dollar they earned selling these useless pieces of junk.

In March 2001 I purchased a Maytag Atlantis Washer MAV7000AWW and a five-year extended warranty from Best Buy. The total cost was about $690. In 2005 the water would not get completely out after the spin cycle. I called the repairman and he came out the next day and replaced the pump. After he left I did a load of laundry and it did the same thing. I called them back the same day and the repairman returned the next day and really didn't know why it was still doing it. So he said he would replace the motor and the belt and see if that would fix it. That did fix the problem.
In 2006 it developed a bad vibration during the spin cycle. I called the repairman and he said it was balanced. He thought the problem was because we had replaced our vinyl floor with laminated wood flooring. Laminated flooring is more cushiony. We still live with the vibration. I forgot to mention that the cost of all of the repairs done and the service calls were completely covered under the extended warranty. I didn't pay a penny. With the exception of the vibration it has run great from 2006 until now.
Now it will not agitate. It will fill, drain and spin. Have not called a repairman because the warranty has expired. By observing the operation and the terrible sounds it makes, we believe it is the transmission. I have a family of six and this washer has done an average of 12 loads of laundry a week for the past nine years. Can't complain about the service of the machine. Now that we are going to have to buy another washer, I am concerned about getting another Maytag just because of the reviews I've read here. I can't afford the high-end washers. It used to be, for $600 you could get a good dependable washer. I guess nowadays quality has gone but the price has remained the same. I don't know what to do now. I can't afford a $600 mistake.

After only 6 years of very light service (I live alone, may do one load of laundry every couple of weeks), the transmission on my Maytag Atlantis washing machine blew out, leaving me with a tub full of wet clothes. I called a Maytag repairman who said it sounded like something simple. When he got here, he called his office and told me it was more to repair it than the machine was worth and to go buy another brand.
I called Maytag who said I had to have an "authorized" Maytag repairman diagnose the problem before they would consider any responsibility. My best friend's Atlantis just blew out its transmission, as well. Who wants to go in on a class action lawsuit?! Let's get together, this is unacceptable.

I purchased a Maytag Altantis washer on 06-05-2005 (model #MAV8551AWW). About a month ago, I noticed that when it spun the clothes in that last spin cycle, the clothes were still very wet and that the machine seemed to spin off balance. I cannot use high spin at all because it vibrates so bad. I use slow spin but the clothes do not spin dry enough. I contacted a Maytag repairman who said that it sounded like a buffer ring and that this was common in this type of machine. He said, he would call me back but never did.
As I investigated more, I realized that I was not alone with this problem and the repairman knew that this machine just could not be fixed because it is some sort of a manufacturers defect. I contacted Maytag who basically said, try leveling the machine and that the warranty was over and they could do nothing about this problem. I checked everything on this machine. My son, who works in repair and maintenance, said he would look and the machine and replace the buffer ring if need be.
He totally dismantled the machine to find out out there is absolutely nothing wrong with the machine. Every part is like new. I only was for 2 people and only do minimum washing. I believe this machine has a defect as I am reading other complaints on this machine. I cannot afford another machine as my husband and I are on a very fixed income. I have lost $649.00 because this machine is not usable. The structure on the floor that this machine is in will be affected if I continue to use it this way. It is in a laundry room.

Atlantis washer approximately 6 years old - rinse, drain, spin cycle quit working. Very, very noisy. Would have to run rinse and spin twice. Finally started leaking all over. Repairman said transmission was shot as well as computer timer for rinse and spin.

Our Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer was purchased at Lowe's. The transmission is out on the washer. It is six years old. The Dryer is having a problem with the timer. After spending what we did on the set, it is very upsetting to know we purchased junk. It is just my husband and I at home. So it is not like it was in use all the time. It's very upsetting. Never again will I purchase a Maytag product.

I bought a used Maytag Atlantis washing machine and when my clothes were soaking wet after the spin cycle, I thought I would look it up on the internet. Lo and behold, everyone is having the same problem, even the smelly mold problem is a common complaint. I hate this machine. When my old washer broke down, I saw an ad at my church that someone was selling a used Maytag washer and dryer. I bought it because I couldn't afford a new one and now I am really sorry I wasted my money on this set.

After six years of miserable service, my Maytag Atlantis washer/dryer set is heading to the scrap heap. I paid $1,400 for this rubbish and my only thought now is, "Selling people junk like this should be a crime." After a year or so, the washer began clunking, the dryer drum warped and when the Maytag repairman awoke from his slumber and came for a service call, he told me I should have bought European. The washer's flawed transmission finally gave out this week, so I fished my wet towels out of the dead beast and began shopping for new machines. The salesmen all told me, "Maytag is better now. Everything's fixed. " Ha! Maytag is one mistake I won't be making again.

My wife and I bought my Maytag Atlantis Washer (MAV7600AWW) and the spin and drain cycles have not been working properly. My wife never knows when she will have to run the rinse or spin cycle again, because the machine didn't spin the cloths dry or worse, the machine did not even drain the water out of the tub! I had service tech come out and check the machine and did change the belt, but the machine still has the same problems. This is ridiculous that the machine that is only about 5-6 years old is junk. We just went out and purchased a front loader by another manufacturer to replace this defective product. We are done with Maytag/Whirlpool products! I'm not sure what to do with the old washer now, throw it out, and then find that Maytag will recall or fix the problem?

I bought my Maytag Atlantis Washer (MAV8757AWQ) in August 2003 from Sears. My husband had to replace the drain pump in December 2007. For the last 6 months, the spin and drain cycles have not been working properly. I never know when I will have to run the rinse or spin cycle again. Now the machine is also making a loud racket when it spins.
I am disgusted with this washer which I paid $600 for. My previous washing machine was a Sears Kenmore which lasted 21 years and only had 2 minor repairs. I think a class action lawsuit would be a good idea since so many people are having similar problems with these Atlantis machines. Maytag knows that this is a defective product but it's obvious that they are not going to do anything about it.

We purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer in 2004. We have had nothing but problems starting in 2008. When you spend $1500-$2000 on a washer and dryer they should last longer than 4 years. We have contacted Maytag starting in 2008 and was told that when our machines were made, Maytag used Kingston parts to be more cost effective.
Maytag later figured out the parts were poorly made causing many problems with the machines. We called for the 7th time today and was told there was nothing we can do. I am so frustrated that we spent so much 6 years ago and the washer and dryer do not work fully. I didn't expect them to give us a new washer or dryer. I just expected Maytag to fix the machine to last longer then 6 years.

Our 18 month old Maytag Atlantis washer transmission stopped working. I called them up. They are sending tech out on Monday. I saw lots of complaints about the same problem. It has got to be a defect! The consequences include loss of washing at home, and the incurred expense of going to a laundromat, along with lost time.

My husband and I purchased our Maytag Atlantis washer/dryer in July 2002. It worked great for the first 18 months. And from there, it went downhill. My clothes started getting random holes in them. Occasionally, the water wouldn't drain from the washer, and now it happens every 5 or 6 loads. I just have to turn it back to the spin cycle and it takes care of the issue, but it's an inconvenience. My dryer's first issue was that one of the "paddles" came out, screws and all. Eventually, all of them have spontaneously come out. I just feel like for purchasing a Maytag, it is poor quality. My parents had their Maytag for 20+years. I thought a washer/dryer should last longer than 7 years for the amount of money that was spent on it.

Transmission gone after two years use! Only two people in the household. Repair will cost as much as a new washer! Piece of junk!!

I bought this Maytag Atlantis in 2005 and within the first 6 months the transmission went out on it. In less than a year the problem arised again, and because of the warranty they came back out again and did an adjustment and that worked for a couple of months, and the warranty ran out and now then some of the cycles quit working and I have to use the extended spin and sometimes the extra rinse to get a load of clothes clean and to get the water out of the clothes. It is putting holes in the clothes, too.
Now this washer stinks all the time, and I have to run bleach in it at least one a week for the mold and odor. I paid a lot of money for this machine, and thought it would be worth it because I had a Maytag before this and it lasted 22 years. when I save enough money, I will purchase another washer, and it will not be a Maytag. this has been a piece of junk.

Purchased Maytag Atlantis at Sears in 2000. After 9 years, it broke completely and had to be replaced. Was not going to spend $500 when I could purchase another washer from a "made in the USA" company! What happened to the Maytag quality control? Are they using "planned obsolence" like the car manufacturers are doing?

causing leaking and flooding

The splash ring put holes in clothes and tore and burnt an area on my quilt and it was not over loaded futher more when it spins out the clothes are a tangled mess!and deep wrinkles hard to get out I was told this machine was to be more gentle on items without the agitation of regular washers Very Unhappy with this product. I do have the extended warranty and have had great service so far.

i have to speak my piece even though this maytag alantis washer didnt cost me a dime. i recently moved into an apt with a washer and dryer hook up. my boyfriend calls me and says hey i got a used dryer for you. awesome. then week later my landlord asks me if i need a washer. awesome. then very first time i used the washer i noticed a mold/mildew smell, so i cleaned it. i just thought it had been sitting either in the back yard or somewhere. the smell came back then i noticed that my clothes werent really clean and starting to smell a bit.
next thing i know it stopped spinning. so im thinking its the belt ill fix it. lucky for me im a woman that is mechanialy inclined. so i checked the belt, it was good. the darn thing ceased up. this washer is only five years old.
ill tell you this much i would be so angry if i had paid money for this washer. and trust and believe maytag knows this model washer is junk, but they continue to sell it. i hope everyone of you people get a class action lawsuit going. maytag knows. thats just wrong. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL

I purchased the Maytag Atlantis Washer and Dryer combination three or four years ago. They both are junk. The washer Model No. MAVT634AWW has stopped wringing clothes, it hasn't been spinning correctly, it makes a horrible banging noise if clothes are not evenly distributed which you must do by hand during the spin cycle in order to stop the banging, the softener container never worked properly, there is black stuff coming from the bottom of the washer. The dryer remains extremely hot even on the top of the unit. We clean it out frequently and clean the lint screen after every use. Dryer still stays hot.

I purchased the Maytag Atlantis Washer and Dryer in 2002. Within the first 6 months the delicate cycle went out and had to be repaired. It still continued to have problems, and does not work now. I noticed first my towels and later clothes didn't smell clean and they smelled moldy, along with the washer. Next would not spin all the water out, Next problem, the washer when loaded would not spin. First cost was to have it checked out by repairman, $65.00.
Next problem, motor went out, It was under warranty, however, I had to pay $240.00 to replace it. And I was without a washer for a month due to repair charges. Now again it will not spin the water out, just some of it, the clothes are still wet and dripping and smelly like mold.
Now it is beginning to make such a racket when it agitates and spins you can hear it out side, and the washer, no matter how many, or how you arrange the clothes, it always spins out of balance and begins to rock and bang loudly. It is so loud with the grinding and banging I will not use it anymore. If I do let it finish tne clother are still soaking wet.
I purchased a Maytag because my sister has had one and it is well at 20 years old. I feel like it has been nothing but trouble and defective to begin with. I'm so tired of it, it's not even worth repairing. I would not recommend the maytag to anyone. The washer was apx $800 and with the added expense of a repairman twice and now it needs to be repaired again. At the price of a repair, I could have placed a good down payment on a new one.

I bought my Maytag Atlantis washer/dryer combo in the summer of 2002 when I bought my new home. Within 6 months, I was having problems with the washer. It wasn't draining properly or completely. I didn't really think anything of it at first. Then I noticed that it would totally skip the spin cycle and when I opened up the lid, there my clothes would be-sitting there in soapy water (in retrospect now, I realize that it was/is probably skipping the rinse cycle also). When I put a load of laundry in, I have to time the washer for exactly 30 minutes and then manually stop it, put the knob in the middle of the spin cycle and let it do its thing. I shouldn't have to do this!
It's been doing this from early 2003 on. And I have noticed the bad odor coming from the bin for a while now. I have never really felt that my clothes have cleaned to the extent they could be cleaned. I don't notice a smell to the clothes-I just don't believe that they are getting rinsed properly because of the fact that I have to manually run the spin cycle every time.
I don't really know how I came up with running the spin cyle again, it was just the thing that I did to get the water to empty out of the washer at the time! I can't believe, from all of the complaints I've been reading on here, that some recall hasn't happened for this model/brand. This was a pretty costly model and it should run properly for the money spent.
Please note: I have only had one repair guy take a look at this the whole time I've had the washer. He "didn't know" what was wrong and adjusted some sort of timing thing. If I recall correctly, it was only fixed for a few weeks and then it started skipping the spin cycle once again.I do not have the funds or time to keep calling people to get this fixed. And it is no longer under warranty. I'm not sure at this point it can even be fixed. It's just something I have to get used to and take the time to do for every load. My next washer will NOT be a Maytag, I am sure of that.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washing machine in Sept. 2003 because my mother previously had a Maytag that was very reliable and I thought the company would stand behind their product. The washer was not used that often the first two years with only 2 people in the house, then only slightly more with the addition of an infant. Well, after owning the machine for 26 months, I did a load of laundry and heard a gushing sound after the spin cycle--all the water came pouring back in the washing machine instead of being extracted! Maytag was very rude and matter-of-fact when telling me a service call from a repair man would cost $158 just to look at it.
When I found out it would be less money for a local repairman I refused to be ripped off by Maytag. Local repair shop replaced the pump for slightly less than Maytag wanted just to show up at my door. Washer seemed to work okay for about another year. Then it started getting extremely loud when going into the spin cycle (so loud you can hear it outside with the doors closed). Also noticed it wasn't spinning the clothes completely dry. Add this to the fact that, throughout my ownership of this wonderful machine, I have had to keep an eye on the filling cycle because the water will continue to run into the machine without filling it up (only remedied by switching to a smaller load size--where's the water going?) and the timer will often get stuck so the cycle will not progress without being physically reset.
I recently noticed water damage to my baseboards in my living room (directly behind my wall where the washer is located). My suspicion that the washer was the culprit was finally confirmed when the floor underneath and around the machine became flooded with water while doing a load of laundry. After this experience (and learning of others' problems with the same model) it doesn't seem worth it to repair the machine. I will NOT be purchasing any more Maytag appliances for my home.
I will likely need to replace the baseboards and perhaps even part of the wall that were damaged by the machine leaking. My carpet in the living room also sustained damage from the machine leaking right through the wall. I am hoping the smell will disappear once it dries and I am able to air out the house.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer in 2005. For the first 18 months it worked without any failure. Then I started to experience a funny smell. My clothes had an unclean smell, sort of like mold. I changed detergent several times, but it didn't make a difference. I had a repair person from Sears look into it and he recommended buying a water filter system. $900 dollars later, no significant change.
I then called another local appliance repair shop and learned the belt and motor needed to be replaced and mold was evident in the bottom of the tub. Another $286 dollars in repairs. The smell did go away for 14 months. In October 2008, I needed to have the belt and motor replaced again, another $326 for the repairs. I purchased this machine due to a Consumer Reports rating and for the excellent history of Maytag. I have thought many times about replacing my machine, but the dryer works perfectly and they are a matching pair. My husband says I'm a fool and should replace the washer, but I'm anal on the design...

Purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer 3 or so years ago. Within the first 15 months it began to only half way wash and spin out my laundry. After several months it started making a weird noise when spinning out. Then a smell came from the machine and the clothes had funny spots on them. Then the thing would not spin at all. Called and after several calls they came out and fixe the thing, saying ti was the transmission. Well another 15 mo has transpired and it is doing it again.UGH>............what part of Maytag is this machine. JUNK JUNK that is the sound it makes now when it spins out .....I asked the first time to give my money back so I could buy a new machine.
Oh Maytag said oh we will give you a coupon to give your a percentage off. I paid over 600 dollars for a machine that I was going to get a few dollars off and just toss out the 600 dollar machine. and then again the new machine would only have a year warrranty. The Atlantis does have 5 year on transmissions and other warranties that the new machines DON'T have ...why are we the consumers being shafted right and left. When will they stand behind their product. 600 dollars isn't much to some but for someone on disability it is a months salary. I NEED HELP

Had good luck with my Atlantis, after about 6 years it started growling on the spin cycle so I ordered another seal/bearing kit and a new snubber ring...works like a million bucks again. These machines are so easy to work on with very little technical skills, get hubby to dig into it.

i purchased an Atlantis washer in Sept 2001. Now my spin cycle does not work and I get an odor coming out of the washer. After reading many complaints from other users I am pretty certain I am one of many with a washer that does not live up to it's name. I am certain that I have a mold problem, possibly a belt problem or even problems with the compresssor unit. I am very disappointed with the short life of this washer and feel that it will now be costly to repair.
I have had whirlpool in the past and my last washer lasted me 18 years. I purchased Maytag because of the reputation that it had put out to the public and now I regret doing so. It also sounds like there is not much support from Maytag repair either. Thorougly disgusted with this and would advise anyone to think twice before buying Maytag washers.
Spent too musch money on a product that doesn't live up to it's name and am finding that repairs are expensive for such a short lived item.

My wife and I purchased the Atlantis washer and dryer set from Lowe's 8 years ago and we have never been happy with them. Our clothes simply don't get cleaned properly and do not smell fresh. I can only use a towel one time before it needs to be washed. My wife beleives that the smell is because the towels are older as well, but I am not convinced. I think a good quality machine should be able to clean any article regardless of age.
We have had repair people out several times over the years and they have replaced a few major parts which fixed the machine but the quality has NEVER been satisfactory. I am looking to replace this set and was considering the new Bravos series due to the positive consumer reviews, but after reading about the similar experiences others have had I will be taking a real hard look at buying Maytag or should I say Fridgidare/Appliance King. I can't remember exactly what the repair person said but the Maytag Atlantis is not really Maytag. It is simply another company that Maytag purchased so they could put their name on a sub standard product. Bad move!!
Clothes do not get clean. Everything, especially towel smell horrible. White loads still come out dirty even after soaking in bleach for several minutes. We have had several repair people out, paying them good money and still the machines don't work properly.

Maytag Atlantis Top-Loading Washer Model 950 purshased and installed 3 years and 3 months ago. Worked great for 3 years and then began to make very loud noise. 3 months later we requested a Maytag service thru Sears and learned the sealed motor bearings were defective. Cost of repair $411.
No physical damage just the replacement cost and labor for installation of the motor. $411

Bought a Maytag Atlantis washer 4 years ago. Sounds like it blew a rod and does not spin/drain. Bought it because of reputation of Maytag-Now I think Maytag's are junk and would not buy another. Unfortunately I bought the matching Dryer and a Dishwasher which have not been any better. STAY AWAY from MAYTAG
Replaced with different make

I am writing a complaint on the Maytag Washer Model PAVT244AWW. This is a 4 year old washer that has the same problems as the Neptune. It is suppose to be a self balancing quiet series and it has always sounded like a train wrek. Also the smell of mold when you first start it up is horrible. I paid 378.42 for this on 11/05/04. I think Maytag should help me replace this piece of junk. It is so frustrating when you go to do a load of wash and the smell is so bad I have to use baking soda in the washer and then stand there holding my ears making sure it doesn't bounce across the floor. Thanks for letting me vent. Did you ever see that commercial where the lady throw's her washer out the window? We'll that will be me soon .
I just wanted to let somebody know about this washer, This is was my first and last maytag.

I NEED TO KNOW IF SEARS SOLD ME A BOGUS MAYTAG WASHING MACHINE &/OR IS IT ACCEPTABLE THAT I PURCHASED A WASHING MACHINE THE MANUFACTURER CAN'T EVEN PROVIDE SPECIFICATIONS ON? Washer MAV15 - Model#MAV7757AWQ purchased from Sears Dept.Store in Sept.2002. I paid $800.00 which incl.a 3 yr extended warranty. I recalled Maytag was suppose to represent a quality product so I was basically sold by the Maytag name. I was advised by Sears this was one of the best machines I could purchase.
I learned after more research, the Maytag Model# on my washing machine did NOT exist anywhere - subsequently, I realized the Manual I rec'd. w/the machine listed no specifications, no information whatsoever. I have had nothing but problems w/this machine which started 8 mos. after I purchased it. I told the repairmen to take it back & have one delivered that works right. He stated they couldn't do that.
So,I referred to all the fine print on the docs I signed when I purchased the machine that indicates a minimum required 4 repair calls before they would consider replacing the machine. It hadn't even managed to get through the first year of manufacturer covered warranty period. The repair slip noted the brake/clutch had been replaced. After this, the machine worked somewhat appropriately for about 1 yr., however, I constantly noticed water coming from underneath the machine. Also, it never spun the clothes enough during the initial wash so I would need to put on a 2nd spin only.
Then it began squealing & making terrible grinding sounds again, but after (2) repair calls & the arrogance of both, implying I didn't know how to load the machine properly & finally being totally disgusted w/the machine I decided to tear it down to the motor. When I finally was able to get the rusted bolts off at the base of the drum mechanism- I was shocked to see that the bolts were so rusted from obvious long term exposure to water that the bolts were actually pitted. I decided I wanted to check out further information specific to the parts I was reviewing, so I pulled out the manual.
There was nothing defined in the manual so I went to the Maytag website & after realizing I was in error identifying this machine as an Atlantis model when unable to locate my model#, I sent an email to Maytag to ask where I should locate the specification sheet for my particular model - as all other Maytag washers were depicted. I rec'd. an email response from Maytag customer service stating that: (quote) This model was manufactured for a specific dealer (Sears) therefore you would not find any details for this model on the Maytag website. Unfortunately, We do not have a specifications sheet available on this model.
I don't understand this explanation & want to know if I have been a victim of consumer fraud or is this all some type of legal marketing technique between Maytag & Sears Dept Stores to the unsuspecting customer? Is there no accountability on behalf of either the manufacturer or the retail store that sold me this piece of garbage? I just want an answer as to the legality of this type of transaction.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer in 2002. The mold & meldew was so bad it got on my clothes. My 5 year warranty had expired so I had no choice but to but a new one, and believe me it is not a Maytag. I feel Maytag should reimburse customers for this faulty product. I have never had this kind of a problem with a washer. It also was leaking out of the bottom.

I own a Maytag Atlantis top load washing machine that has what seems to be several functional defects from what I am reading from other complaints. The first defect is the Fabric Softener dispenser continually gets clogged and gummed up and starts to smell and staining clothing.
I clean it out at least every 2 months with no end in site. The second defect is it appears that the washer misses the drain cycle before the rinse cycle and leaves the dirty water in the basin for you to find later on. It has ruined alot of my families clothes, and as everyone knows in these economic times the washing machine isn't an easy appliance to afford to replace.
I wouldn't mind a part going bad every once in awhile, but every other month of uneccessary maintenance is rediculous. I haven't contacted maytag yet, but just got through dealing with whirlpool on a 2-1/2 year old dishwasher that finally got resolved only because I read the warranty to find the problem was still under warranty, but don't think Maytag will do anything about it. I one would search under Maytag Atlantis they will find plenty of complaints that match mine, and to think that there isn't a single recall out there is negligence to say the least.

We have had problems with the Atlantis not spinning out the water, the washer is off but you open it up and full of water with clothes still sitting in water. This happens so often it is disgusting. Thru the expanded warranty they have to set up an appt. with whoever they have do the work. We had a repair man come and he could not find anything wrong. It did not act up for him, he asked me what I thought was wront with it! This is my 3rd washer and dryer and only Maytag set. I am so sick of going to get laundry out and it is full of water and you do not really know if it really washed clothing properly or not as it is full of water.
I have not had anyone come back because they act like you are nuts and do not care to get to the bottom of the washer problem. Also the guy that came was just plain lazy, when he kept asking me what was wrong with it. Once they get your money for the extended service contract they do not care about the customer. I would never, ever buy another Maytag washer and dryer or contract since they are not good products nor do they care about the products or the customer after we purchase them.
Purchased washer 1/18/2001 first service call May 2001 would not fill with cold water, replaced parts. In 2006 called because water does not spin out so ends cyle full of water and clothes sitting in it. Happens quite often, but not everytime, so do not know how well clothes are being washed and rinsed.
We have wasted out money on the warrenty contract, which expires next year. It has totally turned us against these plans.

We purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer set in October of 2002 and we have had nothing but problems. The washer began making loud noises when we first purchased it. Then, it would not rinse out our clothes. We are truly frustrated. We spent our hard earned money to purchase what we thought was a good brand of washer and dryer and all we get are problems. We still have the washer and dryer and are now in the process of purchasing a new one. The washer started leaving oil spots in our clothes, and would not spin the water out. We had had to purchase new clothes several times because of this problem. There is also a mold smell in our clothes and the washer will not completely rinse out our clothes. This truly upsetting.
We have called a repairman several times and they have had to replace several parts. We finally stopped purchasing the extended warranty because we figured we would have to buy a new washer and dryer before long. I called Maytag and told them that I believe we received a defective washer but they were not willing to assist me. I no longer plan to purchase another Maytag. I also know that Whirpool bought Maytag but this too makes me very skeptical.

I bought a Maytag washer and dryer in 2004. I have had nothing but trouble with the washer since i bought it. The name of the washer is Atlantis Model #MAV8551AWQ. The washer has had black soot coming out of the bottom. Did not spin, The pump has gone out twice the motor has gone out. and the valve has gone out twice. Problem with belt too. Washer makes a loud noise when spinning or washing and has a burning smell. Lucky I have an extended warranty. I just read on the Internet that Maytag had a class action Lawsuit for their Neptune washer.
Washer has ruinned my clothes, twisted them, tore them made them dirty and a bad smell coming from the washer. The bottom of the washer has ruined my tile floor because of the black soot material coming from the bottom.

We bought a Maytag Atlantis washer & dryer set late January 2002 and just had to replace the entire unit due to the motor being out and corrosion on frame. The repair man said the bleach leaked out of the bleach dispenser and caused the corrosion. I called Maytag and was told the motor was not under warranty past the 5th year and that they wouldn't fix it.
I'm complaining because I think it's fraudulent for Maytag to get rich by advertising a brand of quality and service, to state on their website that their washers last longer than any other on the market?, that Maytag relentlessly pursues to build the highest-quality and most dependable machines?, that Maytag stands by their product -- and then refuse to fix or replace a washer that breaks down after six years of normal use. Its not unreasonable to expect a washer (especially a notorious brand like Maytag) to last longer than six years. Obviously something was wrong or defective with the washer. A company that convinces consumers such as myself to buy their product by making these kinds of statements quoted above should be held accountable.
It cost me about $1,000 to replace the washer.

we have a Maytag Atlantis washing machine. we have followed their cleaning and care instructions for the washer. My wife kept complaining that our clothes always smelled like mildew or mold. I took the top off today for the first time and was confronted by an unbelieveable amount of mold. I called Maytag but since my washer is 7 years old they say there is nothing that they can. I am pretty disgusted that they can make a product that has such a serious flaw like this and offer no resolution to my problem. I am nots ure where to turn but this seems like a health issue as well as gross out issue.
I have to go buy a new washer my wife will not use this one anymore

I bought a washer and dryer set from Lowes. Maytag Brand Atlantis. Have had nothing but trouble with the Maytag MAV9501EWW Washing Machine in the past three years.
I have had a repair man out again for a third time.

About 6-7 years ago, I bought a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. The washer was constantly giving me trouble. The repairman was here at least twice a year changing parts on it. I was able to purchase the extended warranty when I bought the set. The last time the repairman came, which was about a year and a half ago, he finally called Maytag and told them that there wasn't any use in fixing the washer. So they told him to order me another washer which was ordered at Sears in Marksville, LA. He told me that there had been lots of problems with the Atlantis. So, they gave me the top of the line model which is an Ensignia.
I don't feel that it was given to me. Paying for extended warranty for 4 years, I figured I bought the washer myself. Anyway, they said that they could not give me a warranty with this washer because it was a replacement. I argued about it, but it didn't help. I thought every appliance had a warranty. Well for the last 9 months, the washer makes a grinding noise when it spins. About 6 months ago, the timer started messing up. It won't spin unless you raise and lower the lid. I have had it with Maytag. All of my appliances are Maytag. I can't afford to have it fixed. I'm disabled now. The old Maytag washers were exceptional. I had one that lasted 14 years. It was just rusted out bad. The belt was the only thing that was changed. Since Maytag has merged, quality seems to be a thing of the past.

I bought a maytag Atlantis 2 1/2 years ago to replace the 40 year old Maytag that had died. About 2 months ago it started making clunking sounds from time to time... when it started clunking all the time I called a Maytag repair man who told me to buy a new machine. Apparently maytag has been using the 'Norge' brand or something else to put its name on and they are less than mid range... as in crappy machines.... and my transmission was going out. Cost to repair? About 400.00..... and I can buy a new machine for that amount.
I want to thank you for posting this site... I will never bother with Maytag again... bah....

I purchased new Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer set approx three years ago. To date we have replaced one part on the washing machine b/c the spin cycle stopped working and two separate parts for the dryer. One part because the door would not close and now we are replacing the timer unit & control knob.
The dryer runs without turning off. Some times it won't dry the clothes and another times it gets the clothes extremely hot. We just ordered a new knob and now the knob is broken off.
The appliances are horrible.

We bought a Maytag Atlantis washing machine that had problems from the start. The place we bought it from gave us the run around, the Maytag company gave us the run around too. A year and a half later, we are still in the same predicament. Maytag and the company we bought the machine from sent repair men out and they don't know what to do either. They don't know what is causing the problem they say. Another delay tactic. OR they say it is a user problem. Not!
We took the case to small claims court yesterday. I will let you know the outcome. If we don't get reimbursed I would like to begin a class action lawsuit.

My Maytag Atlantis washer stinks. It is two years old and has had a mold problem since I bought it. We have taken it apart and cleaned the basket and inside the washer with bleach. We needed to take the basket to the car wash to remove the mold that clung to the sides of the basket. Washer smelled okay for about a week and then the smell came back.
The service man from Maytag told me to take machine basket apart every six months and clean it good. That is a big job and should not need to be done by the consumer. Why doesn't Maytag own up to their mistake?

The Maytag Atlantis smells of mold and mildew. It's like water has been staying in the pump and when you start this machine after 2 days not running you get a very bad smell. I bought the extended warranty and had the machine looked at and the pump was changed out. The smell continues even after it was looked over and the pump change. I have gone as far as to clean the hose and drain out but like I stated earlier let your washer set for 2 days then start a load and the smell returns.

I had purchased a Magtag Atlantis washing machine about four years ago. Since my parents had a Maytag, which I had used for some 15 plus years, I chose to purchase the same brand. Within the first six months I had to have the inner top of the machine replaced since the rim started rusting in several spots.Shortly after the replacement was installed it started rusting again. At around the 3 year mark the transmittion froze.
Unfortunatley; I never purchased the extended warranty after the first year, thinking it was a new machine and should last for many years. Atleast that's what I thought due to my past experience and as their commercials would lead you to believe. Within three months the tramnsmittion froze again. The independent repair person I had contacted said that if the transmittion froze again I should replace the unit. Talk about built in absolesence! Now several months later the machine started to make banging noises at the end of variuos cycles. At the end a the spin cycle a small stream of water stated leaking out from the bottom of the machine. Desperate to finish washing my sheets I proceeded to do another load. This time it reach the end of the wash cycle and the was water around the entire base of the machine. I purosely chose the MagTag brand because of it reputation and quality, much to my dismay. Now I am looking to replace the machine, but what company do I chose?? Whats in a Name Brand?, certainly a name nolonger equates to quality. Thank you for allowing me to express my disappointment and concerns about this company and product.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis in 4/03 and have just been told by a service man it is in need of a main seal and bearing kit. Estimated repair + service $300. After contacting Maytag, I am no closer to an answer to a buring question. How does a company such as Maytag expain the failure in these components. I replaced a Kenmore with a Maytag and am so sorry that I did. Why fixit if in ain't broke.
I am truly disturbed and the prospect of either paying $300 to repair a washer that will probably need the same repairs 3 years from now or buying another washer an expense of $500+.

We purchased an Atlantis MAV 5000AWW serial #13980762YM on 8-21-2000, for $632.95. Prior to this purchase we had a Maytag clothes washer for 26 years and were extremely satisfied so we purchased another one. On 9-15-00 we had a service man come out to replace the pulley, belt, and dust cover because they had cracks in them. Then on 1-28-05 we had the same service man replace the brake rotor and lining, snubber, & drive belt. Of course the warranty had run out so with labor we paid $168.80.
Within 1-1 1/2 years, we are now experiencing the same loud noise at the end of the spin cycle (the same sound which warranted the previous repair).
We are to the point that if we have to invest $170.00 every 1 to 1 1/2 years, why don't we just get rid of this and purchase a dependable machine from a company that will stand behind their product. Maytag is not that type of company.

Bought a Maytag Atlantis washing machine from Lowe's for $700. I'm usually of the opinion that you get what you pay for, however in this case the transmission died after less than 5 years. While the part is under warranty for 10 years, it will cost in labor what I could buy a low end washing machine for. After reading comments about Maytag products on the Internet, I have zero confidence that Maytag produces a quality product that they will stand by. They will not give me the part to install myself.
I'm out $60 to diagnose the problem. I'm out an additional $200+ for either a new low-end washing machine or labor to repair a machine that could easily break again in a month.

I am complaining about my Maytag Atlantis Washer Model # MAV9501EWW purchased approximately 3 years ago from Lowe's at about $600. A few weeks ago I noticed that on the wash and rinse cycles; there was a screeching noise that was louder on super loads;less noisy on medium loads. As a do-it-yourselfer I did some researching and decided to replace the drive belt myself. What I found is the reason the belt failed prematurely is because the transmission is failing causing more friction on the belt/pulley drive. Even if I want to replace the transmission myself (about $250 for the tran delivered);I'm investing in a reoccuring problem. No Maytag; you have lost me as a customer and I will not by your brand again.

I bought an Atlantis Washer, top of the line and it stinks. My clothes stink. I am very unhappy with Maytag.
My former washer was a Maytag and it lasted over 20 years. This washer is only 1 year old and mold is coming out of the washer into the tub every time I wash. I clean the gasket every week with bleach or vinegar or baking soda. Nothing gets rid of the smell. My clothes are ruined... Never again, Maytag. This is a disgrace...
I am Asthmatic and the mold bothers me every time I get near the washer. My clothes smell like mold and the laundry room smells terrible also. I cannot get rid of the smell no matter how many time I clean the washer. I lost about $500.00 because this washer is useless...

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis top loading washer in March 2001. My first complaint to the repairman was for the smell. He said to run bleach through a wash cycle once a month!! This isn't environmentally sound, even if we had city sewer hookup. At 11 months of age, the transmission died. Fine--that was covered by warranty. In August 2006, we had to replace the pump; a week later, the timer, and now the transmission again.
Guess who's not buying another Maytag? They haven't been the same since the Maytag repairman died. He probably got worked to death.
If washing machines are going to die in 5 years, go out and buy the cheapest one ($237 at Lowe's), and just replace them instead of paying $250 in repairs on a top-of-the-line machine that cost $800-$900 new.

In April 2001 I purchased the Atlantis Maytag washer and dryer. Six months later the transmission, drive belt, thrust bearing, motor pully and starter all had to be replaced. Then in Nov. of 2003, it all happened again and all had to be replaced again. Both times only the transmission was covered.
NOW here we are 2006, and once again the transmission blew. Do we get it fixed a third time? We are almost at the point where we have spent as much money fixing it as we would to buy a new washer.
I'm highly upset, because now the dryer's timer has broken. I HATE these appliances.

I purchased a Maytag top-loading Atlantis washer from Taylor's Appliance on May 24, 2004 for $579.95. It is used for a family of 3, so sees below average use. Today, the washer started making a loud noise, and would not run the spin cycle. After doing some research, I found that many people have experinced the same thing, and also, not very long after purchase. From the reviews I read online, it was almost always the transmission. Ours sounded like stripped gears, so I looked, and traced our to the transmision too. My mother looked in our User's Guide, and said it was wrrantied for 10 years. So, we called Maytag to have them send the part. They gave us the run around, and said it was not warrantied unless a professional shop came out to repair it. Funny, it didn't mention anything about that in their published warranty.
They referred us to a local number finally and said we could exchange our bad transmission in Colton, CA. We called the number and it had been disconected. This is the worst service I have ever heard of. With only a two year old machine, you would think they would be more willing to make the problem right, but they are not.
I am on disablity, and have a very limited income. I bought this washer and dryer on time, and it took me a while to pay it off. I certainly can't afford to buy another one. A washer should last more than two years. Search the internet and you will see I am not alone with my junky Maytag

I have been a Maytag customer since 1965. This Maytag Atlantis is a piece of crap. Thank goodness I have an extended warranty, since we have used it 2 times and another time in the very near future. The same problem has been the transmission not running the spin cycle to remove all of the water. That's going to be 3 transmission in 3 years. And if this isn't bad enough the damned machine does not have a lint filter. Who owns a washing machine without a lint filter, obviously I do and several others from the looks of the list.
Consequences? Being without a washing machine for a couple of weeks every time we have it repaired. Being without a washing machine that filters lint, forever.
Consequences? Losing a customer that used MANY of your products.
Looks like Whirlpool is trying to kill off the Maytag line and we are the victims. #%&*%

We purchased what we thought was a top of the line washing machine..the Maytag Atlantis, approx 3 yrs ago. We paid several hundred dollars for it. It had a repair that cost nearly $200 less than two years ago. It is now leaking and not spinning. It is a piece of junk. The maytag repairman laughed at us when we told him we thought maytags were supposed to last forever. I will never buy another maytag again. I have emailed Maytag several days ago, with no response.
Several hundred in repairs. Damage to tile under the washing machine. It apparently started as a small, unnoticeable leak.

I purchased a Maytag washer & dryer from Lowes Home Improvement Store. I purchased a Maytag because their quality of work has always been excellent. I have had nothing but trouble with the washer. It is the model Atlantis. First, I had trouble with the fabric softener not working. Then the lid will not engage the washer. I have the repair man there twice. He told me to slam the lid & it would work. He did set something & it worked for awhile. Now it doesn't engage without slamming the lid. Also, now the fabric dispenser dispenses before rinse water is in the washer. I have ruined several items of clothing because of this.
I am calling a repairman one more time. If I do not get the results that I expect, then I will be demanding a new washer. I paid good money for these appliances & expect good service. It is a shame that this is happening everywhere. I thought that Maytag would stand behind their product, but I have had nothing but trouble. I had to threaten to set the washer on Lowe's loading dock before I could get anything done.

We purchased a Maytag ATLANTIS washer & dryer in Nov 2001. We spent the extra money to buy quality. We have had nothing but trouble with the washer (over and over). I called Maytag to see if they would offer some kind of help (paying for the parts, or a good deal on replacing this lemon. They very bluntly told me NO. I want everyone to know to STAY AWAY FROM MAYTAG. Their quality is terrible, and their customer service is terrible. I'll never buy anything with the Maytag name again.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis 4 years ago. I purchased Maytag because of its long standing reputation. In four years it has flooded my utility room 3 times. Valves and pump have had to be replaced everytime. Needless to say my floor is ruined and will clost around $500.00 to fix, repairs have far exceeded the value of the machine, but Maytag does not seem to be interested in pleasing their customers. I wouldn't recommend a Maytag if it was the only machine left to buy. After spending about $1300.00 I have a very poor machine!
We have to replace our subfloor and tile and some sheetrock. When this is all said and done we will have spent around $1300.00

Purchased a Maytag Atlantis 3 years ago, had to repair the belts twice within the 2nd year, (had purchased extras just in case)at first I thought maybe we were over filling the machine, 6 months later it stops spinning all together. Don't know what to do with the machine, I would feel guilty to even give it to charity.
Never again, now we have oil on the floor that came from who knows what part, we have counted it as a loss, would not recommed a Maytag.

To start I am on my second Maytag Atlantis Model #MAV6300AWW in 4 years. The first lasted 6 months and this one is 4 years old. Well the same problem is occuring that the washer will not agitate and the timer is makeing a constant noise. I spoke to Gina on 5/2 who supposed is supervisor. She told me that the problem had to be diagnosed and I would need to call a repair man. My husband found the problem and it is the transmission. It is a big job to do and takes extenive hours to fix let alone we have to bing the old part and pick up the new one.
I explained that this is my second Maytag and she was very rude and did not want to help at all. I became rude and told her about idt being the second washer in 4 years and this should not happen. The only thing she would do is replace the transimission but we had to install ourself or have a repairman do it. The cost to have this done is almost as much as the washer was brand new. I am in the process of purchasing another washer and it will not be a Maytag. I have heard other people in our area have had the same problem. Maytag stated they are not recalling the washers
I was left with a lot of grease on my tile floor and had to hand wash the load I had in the washer.

I bought the Maytag Atlantis washer about 5 years ago based on the history of my 15 year old Maytag (still going strong for my mother). The Atlantis smoked a belt after 2 years, no problem, and I replaced it. From that point the washer was groaning and making a racket no matter what type of load was in the tub. I didn't think the noise was worth a $100 service call as I figured something was wrong with the transmission. The transmission finally failed and after reading all the complaints online I don't believe it's worth fixing. I also don't believe I'll be buying another Maytag or any other brand they buy. $120 a year for a reputation that is worthless now.

I have now had a serviceman out to my home to repair a timer problem with my Maytag Atlantis Dryer. It is still not working and when I called and spoke to a supervisor (Connie) she told me they would not replace the dryer or refund me my money, until a serviceman deems it not repairable. I am totally disgusted with the service and treatment after spending over $500.00.
Since the timer is broke the dryer never shuts off, which has lead to extra gas and electric costs and loss of clothes due to shrinking. The dryer can run anywhere from 4-12 hours, if left unattended !!!!

My Atlantis Smells like sewer gases and mold. The machine has never stayed balanced and runs around my laundry room. Like the complaints I've read about the neptune. What's up with that? I bought a Maytag as I was told it was the best. Is that why they have commercials with the lonely maytag service repair man because the don't stand behind their product and ignore complaints?

We purchased our Atlantis washer in March of 2001. It was only 5 monthes later, that a Magtag service man was replacing the motor and transmission on the machine. It is only 3 years old and Iam having trouble with it once more. It is making a high pitch whinning noise. What gets me with Magtag and their service, is that the company every time I have called doesn't care!!!!!! A $800.00 dollar machine shouldn't be having all these problems. Because of their attitude, Iam calling my local T.V. station and seeing if going public with this will help. It's not that I'll ever buy another Magtag, it's just the principle. Magtag, you need another slogen!!!! You are not dependable!!!!!!!!

We bought a Atlantis top load in 2002
and the stench is awful. I have not contacted any one at Maytag or Home depot where we bought the washer. The reason we would not be helped with the problem. So here I am informing others not to buy this product since it has become a nightmare. I too, wash my washing machine more than my clothes. My poor husband is beyond himself trying to get to the problem.
We have tried all the hints given on the net to get rid of the problem of the stench (so bad you could throw up)
I also have asthma and it is not helping my breathing trying to get rid of the mold.

I bought a Maytag Atlantis washer and Dryer 11/03 This is their top of the line model. When on the super cycle it does not spin the clothes. I
thought at first it was the way I was loading the machine that was knocking it off balance it is super sensitive the least thing throws it off. So I made the necessary adjustments. Now however it is becoming an almost constant thing I empty the clothes into the sink then a bit at a time spin them. Maytage have said there is nothing they will do,also complained to the store where I bought the washer they say there is nothing they can do its up to Maytag.
Maytag have told me if they send out a sevice tech and he finds the problem to be quote educational I will be charged for the call what kind of customer service is this. The Atlantis that I have is the top of there line and I can not leave my house after I put in a load of wash I will never purchase another Maytag and I have had Maytag for 30 years their customer service department is rehearsed you feel like you are speaking to a machine I am very disappointed in this company after being such a loyal customer.
After two sevice men and numerous phone calls I will have to purchse a new machine and take the loss on the money spent on this one.

We bought a Maytag Atlantis Quiet Plus washer and dryer Dec 1999 from Sears and got the service agreement. The problem is the washer. The washer was no longer quiet after a years use and it began to migrate/walk during the spin cycle. We have left the house on many occasions to come back and we could not get in the side door because the washer had blocked the path. We have called serveral times and had the same responses that I have read here from not loading the washer properly (after washing laundry for over 20 years)to our floor being not level. Funny thing is that a Whirlpool sat there for 4 years and never had a problem! We have just about the entire bottom replaced springs, stabilizer board etc. All was fine with it not walking but the noice remained. Learned to live with it now there is another noise coming from the washer.
All this from a company whom professes that their products are dependable. That may have been the case 25-30 years ago but its not today. I am very disappointed in their service department/warranty etc.. regarding this washer that I will not buy another Maytag product. For the money we have paid for service agreements, I could have purchased another washer.
We have lost time from work, weekend and vacation activities, washing machine downtime having to make arrangements for service technicians, their supervisors to come out to make repairs to this washer. Its a shame and should not be, when you purchase/invested a great deal of money in a reputable company that does not back their product.

In March 2003, I purchased a new Maytag Atlantis washer & dryer combination. In less than 12 months, I have had 4 service calls (1 on dryer for timer replacement; and now 3 on washing machine for water valve replacement).
I have had to take off from work 4 days just to have my Maytag appliances serviced. While the machines are still under warranty, my washing machine valve is leaking again and I cannot afford to take another day off work without the risk of losing my job! I am a paralegal employed by a law firm in Santa Monica, California. How does one explain to their boss that they must take a fifth day off work to wait for a washing machine repair technician?

I purchased a MayTag Atlantis washing machine on 7/15/01. The model number is:MAV6200AWW. Serial number: 20096273Zk. My husband and I purposely sought out a MayTag applicance as we heard that they have very dependable machines and are a reputable company. In December 2003 (2 1/2 years after purchase) our machine started making a loud screeching noise. I had a repairperson service it and he said that it was a bad water pump. I asked if it was something that we had done to make this part wear out and he said no that this part on these machines (atlantis and Performa) were defective. I called MayTag and spoke to supervisor Loni whom stated she could not give me her last name. She was very insenstive to my plight and stated that there was nothing she could do and would note it in my file and use my complaint for thier statistcs. I feel that I have bought a faulty product and MayTag's reputation as being dependable and reputable are false.
I had to Pay $46.49 for the part including tax and $89.95 for the labor.

In December of 2000 I purchased a new Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. I have six children and plenty of laundry. I grew up with Maytag products since my mother would only buy the Maytag brand and had given away a 20 year old Maytag washer that was still working when I got a new one. I needed a dependable machine and felt certain that I would receive years of satisfying, dependable service from my Maytag machines. Unfortunately, this is far from what has happened. The dryer has been fine, but my washer began having problems about 1 year after I purchased them. It began with a noise that just didn't sound right when it was in the spin cycle.
It was still under manufacturer's warranty so they replaced the motor. I purchased an extended warranty (thank goodness)which has at least saved me the hundreds of dollars on repair bills. Since May of this year (2003) this washer has had the pump replaced twice, the transmission rebuilt, then replaced, and now they say they think it is a bearing. It has not been in working condition now for over a week. The sound that I originally heard has never gone and has worsened. It became a loud, shrill, whirring sound during the spin cycle, then developed into a clanking, and then began happening during the entire cycle. Now it does not spin at all. The technician is as frustrated as we are. He has even held the phone up to the machine for the Maytag technicians to hear. They say things like we don't really know what is causing that, try ....... or let's just leave it and see what develops.
Bottom line is that it has never been fixed. I have contacted the Maytag company multiple times - they refuse to replace the machine. I have contacted Maytag Dependability Plus (the extended warranty holder) they refuse to replace it unless four separate instances occur. However, they do not consider it separate unless it happens more than 30 days apart. In other words, I could go on forever having repairs done all as ONE Incident!! I feel cheated and thouroughly disappointed in the Maytag company - I'm having second thoughts about their products quality, but even more so, I have TOTALLY lost faith in their customer service.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer 9/01. About 7/03 I noticed my clothes were not spinning. There is a 2 year parts warranty on the machine. A service person came out and informed me the transmission went out and this is a known default on this machine. They generally go out every 2 years. I contacted Sears (where I purchased the washer) and informed them of the situation. Here I was told they would fix the transmission under warranty but I would have to pay for the labor which would range from $150-$200.
I purchased Maytage because I thought they were the best. After having a washer 2 years you don't expect the transmission or motor to need relplacing. I could understand a belt or some other minor part. Basiclly I paid $450 for the washer + the $200 I will have to spend on labor. I requested a concession and was told I SHOULD EXPECT TO HAVE TO REPLACE PARTS. I agree for minor repairs, but for major repairs never. I WILL NEVER BUY MAYTAGE AGAIN.

My wife and I purchased a Maytag Atlantis Stainless Washer a few years back and we have had service call after service call. During the warranty period the local service company came out, repaired the problems, but never documented any of them with Maytag National. Here we are again, having to figure out how to make this thing work through the holidays (July 4th). Maytag appliances are not what they used to be. Maytag has done very little, even during the warranty period to rectify the problem, except to get the washer going again. They are reluctant to give credits for crap machines and just say oh well it's out of warranty now.

On Aug.12,2000 I purchased a MaytagAlantis washing machine from Sears. From March,2002 to Feb.2003 I have had 11 service calls on it, with the replacement of the Tempature Control Switch being replaced 3 times. It has now went down again. I recieved a letter from Ms.Bowerman saying that Maytag would replace it if any machanical problems occured within one year of Feb.7,2003. It's gone down again ( same problem), I call her, she tells me she wants to send one out that is comparible to mine, as they have quit making the atlantis. The one she wants to send me is not comparible money-wise.
I did some research on the Maytag with local dealers, some don't or won't carry maytag, one place told me the cost of the machine she wanted to send was $600. Compared to the $766.78 that I paid for mine. ( plus all of the service call cost and parts cost) I called her back, now she wants to refund my money AS Long as I send her a copy of my original receipt. She won't re-emburse me the tax's or the delivery fee. I have not kept the original receipt for three years. I can send a copy of the Visa Statement I paid with. I feel I am getting a run around. I have contacted the Visa Company and they are trying to find the copy of my payment( where I paid it all off at one time)This shouldn't happen to the consumer. I paid $1299.27 for a washer-dryer set in good faith to the maytag co. and Sears and their both giving me the run-around. I don't know about you, but that kind of money comes very hard to me. I was expecting to use this set without problems for a few years, but all I've gotten is a BIG FAT HEADACHE I would appreciate any help you might be.Thank you!!
