George of Pompano Beach, FL (05/06/06) We have thrown out over 400 of food and have to go out for breakfast, lunch and diner every day. Hello! That cost . Kimberly of Wrightsville, PA May 3, 2006 Kimberly of Wrightsville PA (05/03/06) Shani of Clermont, FL April 16, 2006 Shani of Clermont, FL (04/16/06) On 2/24/06 the repairman replaced the defrost heater which cost me parts and labor plus spoiled food. He did not fix the water dispensor problem. On 4/7/06 he replaced the air return part. Then again on 4/11/06 he replaced the defrost adaptive board and charged for that part . For the 3rd time I had spoiled food to throw out. I have an Admiral fridge that is 21+ years old and still running great in my other home. I am so disappointed in Maytag. Sandra of Chester, SC April 12, 2006 Sandra of Chester SC (04/12/06) Judy of Cincinnati, OH February 2, 2006 Judy of Cincinnati OH (02/02/06) The plastic hinge cover pieces never stayed on, even though the set up men came back out to try to get them to stay on. The side panel of the main shelf cracked while under warranty, but the repairmen kept cancelling so we just said the hell with it. About 2 months after that, the water through the door warranty was expired, the ice maker part that pushes the ice through the opening stripped and no longer would push ice out the opening. That also meant the end of crushed ice as well. Since we had only finished paying for it just over a year before, we really did not have the money to invest into the repair of these "luxury items" and did without. We still could get chilled water through the door, but to stop it from flowing one had to open the other side or the water would keep flowing. The outside door light would also mysteriously turn itself on after filling a glass with water and we would be unable to turn it off, having to wait at least one full minute before the outside door switches would mysteriously work again. About 3 weeks ago, and a little over a year after the warranty on the compressor is up, the non-freezer side of the fridge became warm while we were gone for the day. All the food was spoiled and had to be tossed. There went about another 100 bucks. Upon a closer examination, it appeared that the upper left hand corner of the fridge (inside)was frozen. We let that thaw and it seemed that did the trick. About a week and another 100 bucks in groceries later, I awoke to hear the sound of running water at 4:30 in the morning. The Maytag was pumping out water by the ton , through the door, and it was kind enough to even turn its little light on for us. It swamped my kitchen floor and soaked up into my kitchen cabinets. It took every towel in the house, 2 8 packs of Bounty towels and a squeegee to get all the water out the door. Most of the food in both the freezer side and the regular side was thawed and mushy. The repairman came and put a new "Brain" in it (computer board) for the fee of 347. Imagine our surprize when nearly the same thing happens a week later. This time, it wasn't the water throught the door controlled by the mother board causing water to once again cascade all over my kiitchen, but the compresser died a sudden death, causing all the ice to melt and to just pour through the door opening, sort of like pouring a gallon or two of water on the floor. All my calls to Maytag were met with the same company line- they think that 6 years is an "old fridge." I bought this stupid Maytag to replace a cheap Hotpoint purchased in 1971 for around 175-220 that had ONE service call in all those years. Consumer Reports gave this refrigerator a very good rating and that it should last 7 to 12 years - which was one of the reasons I bought it. Maytag's own customer service person told me on the phone that Consumer Reports said that appliances and said it did appear that mine did appear to fail "prematurely." Report Your Experience
