m of abingdon, MD October 27, 2009 since i purchased my wide by side maytag in 2003 it has been repared 5 times. i lose food on a regular basis because the refrige does not get cold. this product is a lemon. i have contacted maytag each time and continue to get the run around. it is past time for a class action lawsuit. if you sell a defective product knowingly then it is fraud. J of Schererville, IN October 26, 2009 Purchased a Maytag refrigerator in August of 2005. French doors bottom freezer. Well, the compressor went out. We are fortunate that is still under warranty. It's only 4 years old we truly did not expect this to happen. Veronica of Meadview, AZ October 26, 2009 Since March 09, I have repeatedly called and filled in repair web site info regarding recall notice for my Maytag top freezer/frig unit. I am unable to schedule a relay part repair using either method due to "high volume being experienced at this time and call back or resubmit web info". Maytag has sent 2 recall letters to me, but will not schedule repair service. I feel this is a sham recall with Maytag going thru the effort, but not following thur with repairs due to cost. It's frustrating filling out web info and phone info only to be told to call back at a later date. Within the 7 months I should have been able to schedule a relay repair if Maytag is consciously making the effort to repair their refrigerators. Eric of Roseburg, OR October 24, 2009 ice maker overfills with water and does not work as it should> repairmen has been out and since he doesnt know how to correct it or care just says that i need to defrost or shut down fridge every month or two weeks or so. i have had other fridges that worked flawlessly without a hitch. maytag is ducking out on this one. its obvious that they know what the flaw is. it [is bad] to have a maytag fridge who says theyre repairmen are bored for lack of appliances to fix. and a icemaker that doesnt work right in a reasonably new fridge. maytag should stand by their product. it should work flawlessly. period Al of Carson, CA October 21, 2009 I originally purchased a Maytag Performa refrigerator in November 2005. It was primarily used from 2006 as a backup refrigerator to stove foods, beverages and overflow from our primary refrigerator. I found water beside the refrigerator. When I opened the it, I realized that something was wrong. Nothing in the refrigerator cold and the food in the freezer had melted. I called Maytag to determine whether a recall had been made on the refrigerator. I also asked them to refer me to qualified repair person. I was told that the refrigerator was still under warranty and there wold be a small service charge. When the A&E (owned by Sears)repairman arrived, he checked the refrigerator and stated that it was a relay switch outside of the compressor. The cost of the relay was 36, the installation charge was 219. It took the repairman 5 minutes to install, not complicated at all. I called Maytag to determine who should be charged with the repair of a refrigerator no quite four years old. Talked with several supervisors there as well. The stated that they were sorry, however, none of the parts outside of the compressor are handled by the manufacturer's warranty. The original cost of the refrigerator was 1150, I paid 22% of the total cost of the refrigerator to repair a small part the size of two golf balls. James of Charlotte , NC October 21, 2009 Bought a new refrigerator from Queen City Appliance in one hour started making a loud noise. Contacted Queen City and was given Advanced service phone number to call. The service rep told me my compressor was bad and needed replacing But he recommended against it. I called Maytag and was told no deal on replacing. We are seeking legal action against Maytag. Before you buy beware. Karen of Mill Valley, CA October 20, 2009 I bought a new french door bottom freezer Maytag refrigerator in June 2005 and paid about 1600 for it. I have the model #MF D2561HES which does not have a water/ice dispenser in the door. I called the first week because the refrigerator seemed exceptionally noisy, and after having i checked out under warranty they suggested putting a piece of outdoor carpet underneath it as well as on top of it. On November 1, (we'd had the refrigerator for less than 5 months) the contents of the refrigerator started to freeze. I was told that I probably needed a "freeze-up kit" which would include a new control board and a new fan. However, only the fan was replaced. On June 20, 2006, I called again for a repair person. The refrigerator needed a new fan! Again! In my notes I see that the repairman told me that the fans for this model were of very poor quality because Maytag could save a few dollars per refrigerator by using a model that was not tried and true. He then told me that he would replace the fan with an all metal model that had been around for 40 years, although it was a copy of the original model and made in Korea or China. He told me this fan should last forever. Well, it is now October 20, 2009, and both the refrigerator and the freezer are not cooling. The last 3 years have not been problem free. The same old problem of food freezing in the refrigerator happens a lot, and I have had to throw out so much food over the whole short life of this problematic appliance. I had a Kitchenaid refrigerator before the Maytag which I thought was as bad as a refrigerator could get. This Maytag is far worse. I wonder if there is a quality refrigerator made these days. With such short warranties, it seems there is no incentive to build a quality product. The extended warranties are a expensive and repairs mean staying home all day. Sometimes more than one day. So, it seems that the responsibility of a poor quality product has been shifted to the consumer. Models seem to be reviewed by consumer groups before there is a real track record so that it is impossible to make an informed choice. And then, what kind of choice is there? The appliance dealers say there are really only two manufacturers for the myriad of brands. I think that buying the cheapest refrigerator is probably the way to go if you have to buy a new one every 5-7 years. michael of mogadore, OH October 18, 2009 I called Maytag to report an iceing issue with my freezer (model AFU1767B1U) and they told me that the freezer had a 10 year warranty and that they could have the above factory serviceman come out and look at the problem. When Randy from A&E came out he found that two pieces of tape had falied to hold a drain pan in place and placed two new pieces of tape on the unit and charged me 211.94 on Oct 14, 2009 and suggested that I call Maytag to discuss the issue and possible reimburesement over the fauloty design. I have called Maytag 3 separate times and even though each person has told me that this should not have happened I still was charged 211.94 for two pieces of tape. I feel that this is absolutely wrong that a product failed due to tape and that I should be charged almost 50% of the actual cost to purchase a new freezer to place two pieces of tape that took all of 4 minutes. Please help and avoid more from being ripped off in a similar manner.Maytag shows no remorse and washes their hands of the deal even though they mis represented the warranty and have a faulty design. Bunny of Bronx, NY October 2, 2009 Relay recall on certain model refrigerators. After reading so many complaints related to the recent recall I am wondering whether I should even have the part replaced. I have had the frig for over 8 years. Not a single problem, It works fine. I'm concerned that my experience will be as many here. i.e.,after the 'repair' problems multiplied. How serious is this relay issue? From what I can tell there have been 60 failures ( some serious) out of 1.6 million appliances sold. Is that a small enough incidence that I can ignore it without fear of my kitchen burning down? David of Blenheim, SC October 2, 2009 I purchased a Performa refrigerator about 3 years ago. When running quite often it makes a gurgling, rattling sound? Can you advise what the cause of that sound is and how I can correct it....is annoying. Thanks Report Your Experience
