Maytag Ranges/Ovens |

Janet of Austin, TX October 21, 2009 This is the second Maytag appliance I have owned that the control panel goes out after a few years. My repairman can't even find a working one for my Maytag Performa Range (He has put in 3 so far). Poor design, poor product, expensive part, and no warranty. I'll buy appliances with dials next time. RAY of MIDDLETOWN, NJ October 20, 2009 The oven tempered glass on the front of my Maytag oven exploded into millions of pieces. There was not a single reason that this should have randomly happened. But research is showing me that this is far from a random accident. Hundreds of complaints have been sited on line refering to this oven glass problem, but I can't find any reference to show that Maytag is recalling or reimbusing this product. I think the company should be made accountable. I can't use my oven and will have to replace the unit or its parts at my own cost. REF: 24'' Single Gas Wall Oven with Standard Broiler Below Oven and Two Heavy-Duty Oven Racks: Stainless Steel Neli of Riverside, NJ October 12, 2009 We bought from Sears, in 2003, a Maytag stainless steel convention range which cost us more than one thousand dollars and since from the beggining it seemed to me that something was wrong with it. Sometimes when I ignited the burners I would hear a small exploding sound and the flame would come out like a big flash, I got scared of being burned. Then it was the broiller, with the same sound; I turn on the broiller and I have to wait a long time for it to ignite; I do have to open the oven's door several times and then it is when it ignites sending out a big blast of flame and sound, and other times I have to shut it off because it will not ignite at all and I have to run to the grill outside to broill my food. Then the coil that goes around inside the oven's door became damaged from the heat, we called Sears and one of their contractors came, charged us 280.00 to change it, he looked at the ignition problem, didn't do nothing about it and went away while I had to deal with this very scary nuisance.I am not using the broiller anymore because two months ago I turned it on to ignite, closed the door oven and waited as usual for it to come on, and as usual I had to open the door several times but it still din't ignite; then, while I was at sink (which is very close to the range) I heard this very loud sound and suddenly the oven door openned and a flash of fire came out. I got spooked and the broiller is out of duty for know. Also, the bad part of this range is that says it is stainless steel and there is rust on top of the range and in the removable plates that cover it, and there are very small spots of rust through out the range's body. We are going to renovate the kitchen this year and I will never buy Maytag again... I think it is pretty said that some companies sell shoddy appliances at a high price whent their value and performance is very low. Debbie of Erie, PA August 31, 2009 We purchased a Maytag Range (Model #MGRH865QDW/Serial #13477333NE) in approximately June of 2008. Delivery was attempted on several ranges over a seven week period - they were damaged or dented and either never made to our home for delivery (the delivery company started checking them before wasting their time delivering) or were refused when they arrived. We contacted Home Depot (where we purchased the range)to see about exchanging our purchase for something different and they said we had to deal with Maytag. Once we finally accepted delivery on a range (which does have a small dent in it in the same place as all the others) we used it for approximately six months and my husband walked by one night and a spark came from the oven and it shut off and would not turn back on. We called Maytag warranty service; we were told we would have to wait four business days for an appointment; our appointment time was 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The repair man arrived, looked at the range for about ten minutes and showed us a wire that was not inside the range wall as it should have been and said that was our problem. He ordered a part and left. Three days later he came back to install the part. Last month we were using the range and the circuit breaker went off; once we reset the breaker and turned the oven back on the oven would not shut off. We again called Maytag warranty service and made an appointment for five business days later (with the same 8-5 appointment time). The repair man arrived (joked about just being here); looked at the range for about ten minutes said our board went; orded a rush on the part and left. Three days later he came back; and installed the ordered part. August 26th I once again called Maytag warrant service with the same issue (circuit blew and oven will not turn off) and told that I could have an 8 a.m. to 5 pm. appointment for September 1st. I have spoken with all of the above listed people concerning this on a daily basis with the exception of Sunday. After the second repair they extended our warranty for one year. After the third repair they have offered 75 as cash compensation to offset food expenses. All of this was kind but I still have a broken range and have been inconvenienced beyond belief. John of Bloomington, IN August 30, 2009 Under the warranty period (1 year from purchase), the ignitors on my gas cooktop stopped functioning and all 4 knob broke at the hub--the plastic simply cracked and broke off during normal use. Maytag said they had no record of my registration, but I have the email reply from them. I have to use a lighter to light the stove and have to use pliers to operate the cooktop. Erika of Stafford, VA August 22, 2009 We bought a Maytag Electric Range in Nov. 2005, MOdel# MERH752BAB then on Saturday Aug.14th 2009 my Sister and I were sitting in the Kitchen at 11:00 PM and all of a sudden we heard this terrible Noise and when we turned around to see what happened we realized the front Glass on the Range had exploded, there were little Pieces of Glass everywhere, my Grandchildren had left about an Hour before or this could have been a Disaster as they are usually in the Kitchen, it took us both about an Hour to clean the Mess up, ofcourse we were really shaking. When I called Maytag on Monday to inform them of this Explosion the young man I spoke to stated that they do not know why the Glass breaks but it does not happen often, I really got upset then and told him that they should inform the Consumer about this because if you have a small Child crawling on the Floor this could be disastrous, he apologized and offered to send me the Glass, I told him there is no Way I could replace that Glass and he agreed it would have to be done by a Technician, fortunately we bought an extended Warranty for the Range and they will send us a Technician out next Week. The Reason I am letting you know this is because I feel this is very Dangerous and the Public should be informed about it.I honestly expected this young man to say ma'm I never heard of this Problem before because we thought it to be bizarre Thing to happen but when he stated it does not happen often I realized that they must know about the Problem and did not inform Anyone. Vilma of San Diego, CA August 6, 2009 I had a big remodel in my kitchen and I decided to purchase the best appliances I could. The name Maytag was, in my mind, one of the most reliable brands. It turned out I was very wrong.None of the appliances is working fully right now. The stand alone range does not have a working broiler. After calling a repairman, he diagnosed the problem as a computer problem that costs over 554 to repair. So, I will be without a broiler until something else fails in the stove that forces me to purchase a new one. The refrigerator's ice dispenser, does not dispense. Since it is not an issue with keeping food cold, I have not repaired and will not do so, specially after the stove fiasco. My dishwasher's drawers are just hanging in by a thread the metal has rusted and tore and the sliding drawer has lost rollers, so it is barely holding together. Motors are all good, but any repair is so expensive as to force the client that fell for the brand, to replace the item with some non Maytag item. Beth Anne of Milton, ON July 31, 2009 I purchased all new high end appliances in 2003 from Maytag. We choose to buy Maytag/JennAir as a result of what we thought was a good reputation. In 2006 our stove ceased working. Under warranety we replaced the electrical panel on the stove. In 2007 this part broke again. We waited almost a year without an oven in an attempt to negotiate it being covered under warrenty. It was eventually replaced under warrenty. Aside from this I must mention that each time we still had to pay for service calls. Shortly after the same part broke agian. Maytag sent out another repair company. The same part again was replaced. Within three months of this part being replaced again, it broke. Now no longer under warrenty. When asked why this has broken so many times I have been told it was the membrane on the door and the hinges. Both of which I have already replaced. If this was not enough frustration my Fridge was on the recal list. We had Maytag come out to do the recal. Within two weeks the fridge stopped working. A repair man came out. Of course it was nothing to do with the recal so we paid to have it fixed on July 22. Now July 30 the fridge is broken again. Same problems. When I call Maytag they do not allow you to esculate a problem to a supervisor. The represtative had actually told me that I had only had to pay for the service calls for most of the repairs. The implication that this makes this experience okay. I accept that these appliances are no longer under warrenty, however we are talking about a part that has been replaced numerous times. This part itself is virtually new. I asked the service repair man who was here if I should buy a new stove. He basically indicated that I should. Frank of North Plainfield, NJ July 11, 2009 Due to the poor design of the Maytag Gemini Gas range serial # 12863844GN model #MGR6875ADQ The electronic control panel malfunctions due to to the heat generated when using the stove top burners. This is the second time this has happened. When I contacted the Maytag consumer unit I advised them of this probles and told them that it is obviously the result of poor design. Their responce was they have had no other complaints of this nature involving the Gemini model MRG6875ADQ. I had to pay for the firsr repair which was made just about 1 year ago. Now the same problem has developed but with more severe problems. As the result of the control panel malfunctioning the panel is indicating the ovens are being turned on without anyone touching the buttons. The electric supply to the control panel must be disconnected, when the range is not being closely monitored, to prevent a possible fire. Fonda of Peebles, OH June 17, 2009 I purchased several Maytag appliances in March 2002.Double oven wiring had to be replaced, hen the first time I tried to use the self cleaning feature t didn't work. This was replaced under warranty. The worste is my Maytag Z side by side. About 3-4 years ago I noticed rusting in the door around the water & ice in the door feature. I complained at the time and got no response from Maytag, but I did order Replacement parts for this area which never came and received no communication. Also I could not find a way to follow up. I really need a new freezer door for my refrigerator. I have heard some other people have had similar problems. Report Your Experience
