Laura of Ellicott City MD (07/05/08) We recently purchased a Maytag freestanding range, MGRH865 for our new home. As soon as we began using the oven, it would not turn off. We saw smoke come out from behind the oven and had to unplug it to turn it off. The company that Maytag contracts to service their ovens told us that a screw went into a wire during manufacturing and burnt the board.
They sent us a replacement board and we scheduled a date for repair. Of course, we get a call (after waiting all day) that they would have to reschedule. I wrote Maytag a letter explaining that I want the oven replaced at this point, but I doubt that will happen. After reading all of the reviews, I just can't understand what is going on with Maytag. These are very dangerous situations that involve people's safety.
Not major to date. Days off of work and 2 months of eating out instead of cooking at home.
Leandra of Albuquerque NM (07/04/08) We purchased a Maytag electric stove at Home Depot in 2/07. After 2 weeks of owning it, I called for service because the stovetop was becoming dangerously hot, even far away from the elements. Hot enough that water would sizzle and evaporate immediately. Since I have small kids this really scared me, since even the edges of stove were hot enough to burn them.
Also, the oven door didn't close flush with the oven. The service people told me that the door would sit properly once I used the self cleaning mechanism. Now seeing all the other complaints about the doors blowing up, staining, etc, I'm glad I didn't.
The service folks said that the stovetop temp was normal. God forbid that I brush up against the stove while cooking, because it would cook me!@!!!
Now to top it off the oven handle broke off on left side...$100 for service call, not covered under warranty. Never Again will I buy a Maytag...I have an LG refrigerator and had to have them come out to service Ice maker and they ended up putting in a new shelf that my kids had busted. Same day service too...
Sheila of Omak WA (07/02/08) 2/04 purchased Maytag range #mer5755qwa. Thanksgiving Day 11/07 circut control board burned out. the top worked, but not the oven, broiler, self-clean. sp no dinner!! Ordered $200 part, installed, used oven 6 times, burned out again. Went online to see if anyone else had a problem..wow! the response about this defective stove is interesting. How can we consumers get a recall or compensated?
The part is $200 + to repair. I can not provide meals for my family. I will not spend $200 every 6 weeks. I am very disappointed with Maytag for I felt I was buying top of line product.
Janet of Caliente NV (06/27/08) I purchase a Maytag Gemini double oven in 2001. It worked fine for a few years. I have had to put hundreds of dollars into stove and still cannot get it fixed. They put new elements in both ovens, and stated maybe it was the main board which would be $300.00. THe Board keeps beeping and saying call an 800 number for F1 or F3 service. No one can figure out what is wrong. I have to shut the breaker off to my oven to get it to quit beeping. The stove is not even usable.
Stove not usable and cannot get anyone to fix it. I also have problems with my Maytag diswasher. Damage is who can afford to keep putting money into the stove and hope it works or pay at least $2,000.00 to buy a new one. I will not ever buy a maytag product again. My parents swore buy maytag in their day, because they last so long. What does this say about the company being reputable?
A. of Ottawa OTHER (06/25/08) For the third time now since we purchaced this oven, it has stopped working and displays the F1-1 Fault code indicating a problem with the upper oven sensor. After replacing both upper and lower sensor, the Fault returns after a day or so. The oven will not heat properly and both ovens appear to be affected. The first time this happened we pestered Sears until they actually replaced the oven. This persistant fault should be dealt with by the manufacturer.
3 separate repair procedures - each time costing at about $100 and one oven replacement. This stove breaks every couple of years. Its not reliable.
Kathryn of Chicago IL (06/21/08) We have a 2 year old Maytag Gemini double oven (gas) that is a major disappointment. A year ago the touch panel for the upper oven broke so if pressed the oven cannot be turned off unless we pull the entire stove out and unplug it. We have experienced random clicking of the pilot light with gas smells and tonight while wiping it down experienced a fire! Some water got into it and flames were coming up from where the dials are. It was terrifying to see this on fire when dealing with natural gas.
This stove is not usable. Random sparks and fires are not acceptable and with small children in the house it's not worth the chance.
Paul of Amsterdam NY (06/09/08) Apx 4 months ago we purchased a Maytag stove at Home Depot, the oven was not reaching above 250 degrees and the burners were not powerfull at all. So we called for service. After five service calls the stove is still not working and Maytag is not deeming this stove unrepairable, they changed many parts on it and it still does not work. We have not been able to cook since we bought it and i'm tired of it. Just wanted to know who can help me speed this process.
Every time a service call was scheduled the company's hours are from 9:00AM till 5:00PM so we had to lose five days of work and/or productivity.
Linda of Houston TX (06/03/08) I purchased a Maytag, electric 30 free standing slide-in range in 2001. July 03 after using self clean control panel broke. This was covered under extended warranty. Oct. 07, same thing. Took a month to finally get it results after terrible tech advice causing me almost electrocute myself. Again, last week, self cleaned the oven and now the control panel is out again. I can not get anyone from Maytag to return my calls this time. This is obviously a flaw in design or intentional flaw to require frequent, expensive part replacement.
This time, I have to shut the breaker off in between cook top usage as the control panel gets to hot. I need to cook to feed my family. Maytag does not care about any inconvenience or excess repairs of the same problem.
Alicia of San Antonio TX (05/28/08) I too bought a Maytag Gemini double oven. Top oven handle has broke on the right side, and now botton oven handle has broke on the left side. We paid over $1200. We are two seniors with on children in the house. Have used the botton oven maybe 3 times since we purchased. pleased do not buy Maytag, after reading the reviews now I am scared to use the self cleaning feature.
Broken handles can be very dangerous while pulling out hot foods from the oven. I have sent emails to Maytag but no answers.
Judith of Staten Island NY (05/15/08) Used self clean feature on stove and it melted the door and draw of my cabinets. There was a recall in 2001 on my model stove for safety reasons. cabinets catching fire and posing a fire hazard. Maytag advised for consumer to stop using broiler and self clean feature until Maytag comes to fix. However according to Maytag's safety department my serial number does not qualify for recall.
Maytag will reimburse me for cabinet damage but tells me that cabinet company should know that their product cannot withstand heat from self clean stove. This stove is a fire waiting to happen. What can I do to resolve this?
Shirley of Seminole OK (05/08/08) In July 2006 we purchased a Maytag Percision Control 500 Electric Smoothtop Range Model MER5755QAW from Sears. After years of seeing the commericals for the Maytag man with nothing to do we thought this would be a good brand. Two months ago the oven stopped working. It wouldn't preheat past 100. The cooktop works, but the oven and self cleaning does not.
I called a repairman and he said I was the second person to call him within 30 minutes with the same range and same problem. He was going on vacation and couldn't get to me right away so I called Sears repair. The repairman came out the following week and said it needs a new control board for a cost of $400 plus the $50 I had just paid for a service call. THere was no way I was paying $450 to have it fixed when I only paid $469 for it new.
I have looked at a repair blog on the internet and was surprised at how many people have posted with the same range and same problem that I have. I contacted Maytag to see if there was a recall since there are so many people with the same problem, but they said no. I would like to know if there is a class action lawsuit for this product.

John of Sunset Beach NC (05/04/08) I seldom contribute to these blogs, but since we had such a great experience with our Maytag range I felt inclined to add my 2 cents. We bought a Model MER5755QAW ceramic top range several years ago and are VERY happy with it. It has performed well in all respects. The top is very easy to keep clean. We have had NO PROBLEMS.
Cheryl of Aberdeen, MD (04/05/08) We purchased a Maytag Electric Double Oven Range in December 2006. Last weekend 03/30/08 we put two TV dinners in the lower oven. The element began sparking, only part of the element was hot and it was red hot, sparking. My husband turned off the oven, the element broke at the point where it was redhot. We called Maytag and they did advise they would pay for the part but not the repair.
Anew oven that was purchased 15 months ago for over 1200 dollars should not have to be repaired. I too like all the others thought I was buying a very good product. Looks like the Maytag repairman is not as lonely as they state in the commercials. The repairman came early however he told us we had to order the part. This we did not know we were mislead by the Maytag service line. The part is 65 dollars. He says the part will be here in 3 to 5 days.
Yitzchak of Brooklyn NY (03/25/08) we bought a oven in april 2006 since we bought it we are having problems the temperature is saying its 400 but its 300 (its not heating) also after the oven is on for more than a hour it has a gas smell so we called maytag thay come down to check after wating 2 weeks he comes down he says we need to order parts now we wait 3 more weeks maytag chenges the part the problem is still happing now for more than 2 1/2 years
the problem is still happing thay came for more than 8-10 times thay cant find the problem what can i do please halp use
Linda of Shoreline WA (03/16/08) Unfortunately I purchased five new Maytag appliances 12/30/04. I have had ongoing issues with my washer and dryer ,but my main complaint is the range (MER5755QAW). After a year of calling Maytag because the oven would not heat correctly, they replaced it with another one that barely works better. Well, the oven just died today. I thought that when I bought Maytag appliances, I was buying the best; but was I wrong. I will never buy another Maytag product again.
Joan of North Branch, NY (03/07/08) The first time I used the cleaning element, on my one year old glass top stove, the heating element died. Maytag said it was past warranty so I hired a repairman, purchased the part and it worked until 3/5/08. Two heating elements in three years. Once again, after cleaning it the other night, it died.
I didn't think much of the smoke coming out of the back of the cooktop when the oven was on high until I read the website complaints.
Carol of Cheshire MA (03/05/08) 03/04/08
My husband turn on the Maytag Gemini Electric Range and put two bread pizzas on a cooking sheet pan, 350 within 10 minutes my husband called me out to the kichen an said look at the oven. Sparks were flying all over, the coil looked like someone was welding. We shut the oven off but the coil was still red hot an not cooling down, so we went down in the basement to shut the oven braker off so no eletric was going to the oven. We called the Maytag consumer phone number and told them what just happened,so I told them. They told we that they were willing to pay for the part or the service call. I asked her how much the part would be to replace, but she said she didnt know ??? and her computer in front of her could not get that information for me ??? (MMM Im think to myself am I taking to a Maytag employee ??) We payed 1500.00 for this stove thinking that it would last much longer than this.
My husband has work for 33 years, had to go on disabled because of a illness, know we have to go out and buy a new stove , we have to spend money in which was not in our buget. There products are not living up to there expectations. ( PS. I think there name has died when the Maytag Man died.)
Melissa of Lake Ronkonkoma NY (02/15/08) I own a Maytag Gas precision touch 500 (model number mgr5755qdq) range which I purchased approximately 2-3 years ago. The oven lock feature would come on and blink and then occasionally go off. Then it would appear more frequently. The real problem started when I either could not light the oven, or if I was cooking in the oven the door would lock itself and the oven would NOT shut off. I would have to pull the oven out from the wall and unplug it. I had a serviceman come to my home, and he stated the control panel was defective. Being a two year old stove how could a major component of the stove break. I have researched on the internet and found similar complaints. I called Maytag to see if they would cover some or all of the cost, and I was told that since the machines are man-made anything can happen. So not only am I out a stove but also the $90.00 I paid for the service call.
I was told the entire control panel would need to be replaced at a cost of $441.68.
Carol of Albany OR (02/13/08) I was awakened by a frightening crash from the kitchen at 2:00 in the morning on January 25, 2008. Much to my amazement I realized that the front panel of my Maytag Model MEW5527DDB wall oven had exploded sending shards and pieces of black glass in a 6 to 9 foot arc around the kitchen. I couldn't believe it! This was especially puzzling as the oven had not even been used for three days. I filed a complaint with Maytag/Whirlpool online customer service on January 26, 2008.
Fortunately this happened in the middle of the night, as had someone been standing at the kitchen counter they would certainly have been injured, as the oven is mounted at eye level. Apparently the glass was tempered; however it all did not crumble. Many pieces were 1-2 inches long. When I began to clean up the mess I was dismayed to find that glass had found its way into dish cloths, towels, open drawers, dog dishes, the dining room carpet, the fruit bowl, etc. The entire area needed a thorough cleaning as naturally we were worried about subsequent injuries.
Today's date is February 13, 2008 and I finally made contact (after several emails, phone messages) with Marti, a Maytag rep. She was quick to answer my initial email but a bit slow to follow up. She did a good job in defending the Maytag product. According to Marti this is something that can happen whenever you have an appliance that has tempered glass. When I asked how many incidents have been reported, she said that was not information she could share with customers, which made me suspect mine wasn't the first case she had heard of. Frankly I was surprised that Maytag wouldn't stand by their product and replace the door free of charge, especially when the problem could have involved injury. This also made me suspect that they have received many complaints of this nature...too many to offer door replacements, especially when the new door might have the same problem. When I asked if, since this seemed to be a common occurrence, there was a warning posted somewhere on the appliance, she said that since it (the exploding issue) was a property of tempered glass, and not of the appliance itself, a warning wasn't necessary. When asked if I could have the oven door or glass replaced, I was told sure, but that I would have to pay for the service call and all labor. They would provide the glass and any other parts needed as determined by an authorized service dealer. Service call to assess damage - $60.00; Estimated labor to replace glass - about $200.00.
According to Marti, no one warrantees glass. It seems to me either 1) Oven manufacturers need to stop making glass doors, and/or 2)The tempered glass folks need to develop a safer product, as it must be ridiculously unstable. So, after just three years I am out the $800.00 or so that I spent on this oven. I will most likely replace the oven with a new unit without a glass door, IF I can find one which means I am out at least another $800.00. Once you have experienced this phenomena it really makes you hesitant to throw $$ into another glass door unit. And to top it off I don't really feel my complaint was taken seriously, or that Maytag really cared that I had a concern.
Jeff of Hortonville WI (01/31/08) In December 2003, we made the worst decision of our lives. We actually bought all Maytag appliances for our brand new home. Since then we have become first name basis with our nearest Maytag repair technician. Six months after installing our appliances I ran the self cleaning on our Maytag Gemini Range. 20 minutes after the start the oven glass on the bottom door blew out. The technician I was referred to, told me that is what is supposed to happen. So I asked again, every time I use the self clean option the oven glass is going to shatter? After, that conversation and money to replace the door, I should have left all the appliances on Maytag's front door at their headquarters.
In Feb 2007 our Maytag side by side $1500.00 refridgerator stops cooling. Techs come and put in a new compressor and dryer. After waiting six weeks for the parts to come in. Two days later the refridgerator is room temp again. Another compressor and dryer and thermostat are put in. One week later the same thing happens. It is now Jan 31, 2008 and we have put in two more compressors and dryers and controllers. Just add up how much food has been spoiled in this time.
Then, on Saturday, I pulled the refridgerator out to clean under it and what do I find. It now leaks. The evaporator is not working. But get this, my hardwood floor and cupboard near the refridgerator is completely warped and wrecked. We then went down to the basement and looked up and noticed mold growing in the crevices of the subfloor. Called the techs, who in turn told us they have never in all their years of fixing appliances have run across this. The techs called the Maytag techline who in turn told them that they were supposed to put in a special conversion kit when the compressor and dryers were exchanged.
But that isn't all the problems we have had with Maytag. Out left front burner on our Maytag Gemini burns out every 30-60 days. I have had to have techs come in exchange the burners several times. We now only rarely use the the left front burner. And to top all this off the Maytag dishwasher started leaking, warped the hardwood floor (because I run the dishwasher while I am at work). The float stopped working, not to mention the handle has been broke since it was three months old. Bottom line. I will never buy a Maytag product again nor will I ever let someone I know buy one either.
Food was lost. Hardwood floor and subfloor need to be replaced due to mold growing from the leaking refridgerator.
Dave of Mosheim TN (01/23/08) About four years ago I purchased a double-oven Gemini Maygtag stove. It had performed acceptably until the handle to the top oven unit came off in my hand.
Mrs.trinidad of Nyc NY (01/20/08) I spoke to Mr.Sparks regarding my Maytag stove because the the oven goes on by itself! Maytag was here once and replaced the part, but it still continues. Again I called Maytag and reported the problem and again they are going to replace the part. I am concerned that this problem will not end. This Oven should be recalled! As I am writing this the oven still goes on by itself and am deeply worried about this!
Jerry of San Mateo, CA (01/17/08) On a product I've owned for no more then 2 years, the 'control board' blew out.
My mother had her Maytag stove for over 20 years and never needed service. I had mine for 2 years and need a $385 repair (almost the cost of the range).
Bill of Bethesda, MD (01/17/08) I bought a Maytag Gemini Double Oven about two years ago. The oven worked fine for about one year, then problems started. 1) right side panel of oven became loose and bottom disconnected from frame 2) front handle on bottom oven broke on right side.
This last week we noticed that the oven gives off a noxious smoke when turned on. Even after going through a cleaning cycle the over still smokes when turned on. The smoke seems to come from inside the frame.
So far, no help from anybody. The store says it's manufacturer's problem, manufacturer says out of warranty.
Jerry of San Mateo, CA (01/16/08) The board burnt out on my Maytag stove just after the warranty period. My bill was for $385 on a year old stove.
Beverly of Elberta AL (01/11/08) The baking element arced and burned up the back of the stove to the touch pad. It burned the circuit board out completely. Fire and smoke came out of the oven. Baking element is burned completely in half, and the bottom pan is burned. I called the local repairman and parts are ordered, Maytag will not pay for all the damage.
I spoke with Tiffany who is a supervisor, and she said they would pay for the baking element but nothing else. I reminded her that the damage was from the arcing baking element which is sealed as it is a self cleaning oven, and she stated she didn't care what damage was done--they would only pay for heating element. So I am stuck with a damaged stove and a large bill. I told her that I was taking further action, and she said go ahead.
The damage is a burned circuit board, burned and destroyed baking element, and damaged pan .The touch pad or oven does not work. This could have burned our house down or electrocuted me while standing next to it.
Pamela of Altadena CA (01/09/08) The automatic pilot started lighting itself, making the clicking sound like the gas was left on; and when I went to turn it off, it would not turn off, and then smoke was coming out the top like it was on fire. Although no flame was seen it was very scary dealing with this, with natural gas. I am currently waiting on the repair to be done. I may choose to purchase a new range, even though this one was purchased Feb. 2004, and I have never had this type of problem with an oven before EVER. Model is Maytag double oven Gemini.
Robert of Sarasota FL (01/04/08) My wife and I purchased all Maytag appliances for our home in 1994. Range, Microwave, Dishwasher, Refrigerator, Washer & Dryer. At the end of the first year the Range Model # CHE9800 started beeping while displaying the F-1 code. We contacted the local dealer where we purchased and Maytag. Since the Range was over a year old it was out of warrenty. Maytag agreed to provide the touch pad but we would have to pay for service call $60.00. This same problem has continued approximately every 13-23 months costing $200 parts + labor. The alarm goes off at all hours of the night making it necessary to disconnect the range after each use. Maytag admitted they had a problem with the touchpad but they were not going to redesign the part to resolve it. They just continue manufacturing faulty parts and let customers pay to replace them as needed. We have replaced the touchpad 5 times and the sixth one has failed. We decided to buy a new range this time. The Dishwasher and Washer are quite noisy and don't do a very good job of cleaning either. The Refrigerator's door squeaks loudly when opening with no way to repair without replacing the whole hinge unit. I will never buy anything made by Maytag ever!
Janet of Coral Springs FL (12/19/07) Maytag Gemini Double Oven Electric Range Model # MER6755AAB is a no good. The coil in the bottom oven turned bright orange on one side, dark on the other side as it burned through like a fuse on a stick of dynamite. When it was done the coil blew up and caught fire. This range is not safe and the parts are next to impossible to obtain. Don't buy anything Maytag. They do not stand behind their products at all.
I am going through the Christmas holiday with no oven, no homemade cookies, no homemade dinner. Nothing until the parts arrive and no one can tell me when that will be.
Jean of Mt. Prospect, IL (11/30/07) I purchased a Maytag oven and during the first few days the paint started to come off and the heat from the oven discolored the control panel. The ignition soon gave me problems. The serviceman repaired the ignition problem and installed a small hood to divert the heat coming from the oven but handed me a bottle of appliance paint to touch up the spots where the paint has come off.
I'm selling my home and now have to replace the oven to attract buyers.
Jowana of O'Fallon MO (11/18/07) Each time I use the cleaning feature on the Maytag Gemini Range, I get an F1-2 fault code, which means Runaway Lower Oven; Replace sensor. How do I know this? It's because it's been replaced once already! This is ridiculous that each time the range is placed in cleaning mode, the senor burns out. I love the 2-oven feature of this range, but Maytag should do a recall or find out the problem. This is getting quite expensive to call for service each time you clean the oven. But once again, I'll be calling my not so lonely....Maytag Repairman.
Sue of Barre VT (11/17/07) Maytag stove, model MGR5775QDW, is dangerous. It turns on when leaned against. Small pots get caught and tip over, and I have been burned. I am lucky my clothes haven't caught on fire. I sent a registered letter to Maytag and received a form letter saying nothing in response. The oven controls turn off when you set the clock, and I had to call a repair man to get it turned back on for a Christmas dinner.
Melisa of Sioux Falls SD (11/09/07) We purchased a Maytag gas range 9 years ago and in the first year had 2 service calls for the electronic ignitors which stopped working and had to be replaced. In the years since we typically are lucky to have3 out of 4 burners working, sometimes only 2 are functioning, never all 4. Now the oven is taking at least 2x's as long to heat up and then is cooling down mid cycle after had finally preheated.
Using up a lot more natural gas resources, which in todays economy especially is not a good thing at all. Concerned about food safety so cannot make pork chops etc in oven as will cool down then heat up
Julia of Ingleside IL (11/03/07) I have a Maytag gas range Model #MGRH752BDQ. It was bought in October of 2005. When I use the oven or the broiler, the heat comes up through the front vent and melts the light switch on the front panel. The button is melting, dripping, and turning black. I have had a repair person come out, but he was not able to repair it because he said he had not seen this problem before and would call and email Maytag. When he tried over the phone and online he could not get an answer from anyone regarding how to get my range repaired. I called Maytag and was told to call a repair man--and was given the run around when I said I wanted results. I want the button on my range repaired and whatever it is that is causing this to happen, taken care of. I believe it is a fire hazard, and I cannot use the oven light.
Kathy of Cincinnati, OH (06/21/07) I purchased a new Maytag oven and washer in October 2005. In July '06, my oven's ignitor went out. It was still under warranty. In October '06, my washer broke down. They had to replace the bearings and the transmission.
So much for dependable products.
If this was not enough, about a month ago my ignitor went out again and it will cost between $150 to $200 to fix. The about a week ago, my washer started making the same noise it did before it broke down. I called Maytag, but all they say is that I should have purchased an extended warranty!
I paid close to $1200 for both of these appliances. I could not afford an extended warranty, and I thought since they claim to be so dependable, that I would not have to worry about that.
Dave of Falls Church, VA (06/19/07) My Maytag oven (4 yrs old) starting sparking fire inside the oven. The lower heating coil started to sparking with a very bright light like a welding rod. This started on the right side of the inside oven and burned over to the right side. While the sparking was burning on the right side, the coil was orange with heat on the left side.
This was all while the oven was OFF.
Barbara of Mukwonaga, WI (05/20/07) I have 3 Maytag appliances. The Gemini Stove has had a gas leak from day one. Had to get the gas company out to red tag it before anyone would do anything.
Then I got a Maytag dishwasher. Shelf broke 3 days after I got it. I had to pick up the part because it was the day before Thanksgiving and I was having 19 people for dinner. Then, 3 months AFTER the warranty wore off, my dishes were coming out dirtier than when I put them in. I called and they basically told me to take a hike, because the warranty was over.
Now I have an Ice 2 O French door refrig. Maytag again!! Two different repairmen at two different times were here already. One said it was the control panel, another said the motor. We are still waiting for parts and still buying ice.
I want to know, what are the chances, I have 3 Maytag Appliances, AND ALL 3 are LEMONS???
Nancy of Marianna, FL (04/15/07) My husband turned on the self cleaning cycle of our Maytag electric Gemini range and it ran through most of the cycle but at the end made all of our lights in our house go crazy. He didn't realize that the oven was causing the problem, but then it took out our whole main line and breaker box into our house.
The top of the stove works fine but the oven will not heat higher than 100 degrees before the f1 code starts beeping. Sometimes in the middle of the night it will start beeping and flashing when nothing is on.
An authorized repairman said that both circuit boards would have to be replaced and they were over $200 each, not including his service call.
Cheryl of Decatur GA (04/10/07) I purchase the Maytag Gemini Smooth Top Electric Oven and have had nothing but problems. After self cleaning the oven, the inside glass shattered. About a year after the glass breaking, I turned the oven on it started to smoke and it smelled as if wires were burning, the clock went dimmer and dimmer until it went out. I decided to get rid of it. I will never purchase another Maytag product. This has caused an unexpected expense for a product that was thought to be a very good product.

Maytag MER5770AAW. I purchased this range July 8, 1999, (along with the Neptune washer/dryer, and Maytag refrigerator. The refrigerator was replaced immediately. Shortly, the dryer motor went bad and it had to be replaced. There was a recall on the Neptune washer and missed my chance to have it repaired, because I did not checked the e-mail. Then, late one night I heard this continuous beeping noise, went in the kitchen and the sound was coming from the key pad, flashing F1, I pressed the cancel pad to stop the process and was not successful. Called the Corp. Office with this problem, given instructions to unplug the stove for one hour, to clear panel by holding the control lock or call a authorized Maytag service, if these procedures do not work, nothing worked. It was defective in 1999 and Maytag should bear the cost of replacing and not with a Maytag Range. The range top works, but the oven is not working at all.

Maytag MER5770AAW. The electronic range control panel went bad after cleaning the oven. It looks like the vent just below the panel allowed the extra heat to damage the panel. After reading it looks like this is a factory design defect and would not be worth investing the money to just have it fail again.
Laurie of Gibbon, MN (03/03/07) We purchased a Maytag glass top range 4 years ago. One day while preheating the oven to make a pizza, it started making a strange noise. My husband opened the oven door & he said it seemed like a rush of air just sucked into the oven. After that the oven & broiler did not work.
We called the Maytag repairman who told us it would cost over $300 to fix. All the components for the oven were burnt out. He also said that a week prior he saw another Maytag that was only 3 years old & the same thing happened.
We spent around $700 for this stove. It should last longer than 4 years.

I purchased a Jennair gas range in August, 2004. Since that time the electronic control panel has failed 6 times, the last time being November, 2006. Each time the repair person from Maytag has made exactly the same repair, replacing the electronic control panel. When it failed in 2005, I filed a consumer protection claim with the State of Washington Attorney General's office. I reached an agreement with Maytag that if it failed again, they would replace the range.
However, when this in fact happened again, Maytag consumer affairs responded neither to me directly nor to the claims adjuster assigned to my complaint at the AG's office. My only recourse at this point is to sue Maytag in small claims court, which I will do shortly.
Steven of Yukon OK (11/07/06) Maytag Oven Model #MER5755QAW purchased in 2004 oven door handle came off on right side. Bought from Sears. Contacted Sears and would not replace part. Contacted local Maytag authorized repair center. When they were given the information that it was a two year old Maytag oven the lady asked if I needed an oven door handle. Decided I would try to glue it back together (brass final is pressed into plastic for screw that holds the handle on) and went to Lowes. While I was there I walked by the appliances and saw a Maytag (gas oven) with the same handle broken on the right side. I called Maytag and they said there is nothing wrong with the handle and there are no factory recalls for them.
Frank of Mankato MN (09/09/06) We bought a Maytag MER5775QAN smooth top range that was installed in May 2004. The oven door handle soon came very loose. It was reinstalled under warranty. The over door handle is again loose. In addition, there is quite a bit of dust between the front and inner glass, and some brown stains on the inner glass. It appears that the door has three panes of glass. I'm not quite sure if they are glass or some other material.
Jerry of San Clemente, CA (09/04/06) We have two Maytag Magic Chef ovens. The ovens have control panels that we have replaced repeatedly over the last ten years we have owned these ovens.
When the panel fails, the display shows an F1 error message and an annoying beep is emitted. Aside from disconnecting the oven entirely, the only repair for the problem is to replace the control panel at a cost of about $250. The replacement panel only lasts for a few months before the same problem arises again.
Elizabeth of Virginia Beach VA (08/25/06) We purchased a Maytag Gemini Range (model #MER6875AAS) in Nov. 04. I love the range and have had no problems with the unit. We purchased the Stainless Steel model but today realized the edges of the range doors are sharp. My 14 month son was walking in the kitchen running his hand along the lower door handle when his finger was cut in the door vents behind the handle. We inspected the range more closely and realized he could easily be cut on all the edges of the oven doors. After 2 visits to the ER today for this injury I am not sure what I am going to do with my oven! I contacted Maytag and spoke with Corporate. They don't know what to do and will research it and contact me on Monday. I hope other parents review this and check their range edges before their children are injured.
Large cut on 2nd digit of right hand. ER attempted to seal the wound with Dermabond but unsuccessful.
Diane of Tustin CA (08/18/06) Range with the F1 fault error. The part has been replaced twice, the last time in Nov. 05. The oven stopped working, the authorized dealer would not help. In June 06, the FI fault happened AGAIN! The company insisted that the warranty was not valid because the stove is old, they would not admit that if the same exact part breaks down over and over, it is not an age issue, it is the part! I cannot use the oven at all, it won't heat over 250. I wrote to the CEO, got a call from someone who I have called back 6 times now. They keep their phones on voice mail all the time. Too many other choices to bother with this company.
Robin of Abilene, KS (08/08/06) We bought the most expensive smooth-top Maytag Gemini range two years ago. I have had no problems with it until I used the Self-Clean for the first time. It was set to clean for 3 hours and at some point in the cycle, I heard a loud pop followed by a series of pops, then the inside glass in the bottom oven door shattered in millions of pieces.
The oven was beeping, had F-9 error code and a phone number to call. I called but they wouldn't talk to me until I could tell them the exact day in April of 2004 that I purchased the stove. I found that and they said it was not under warranty. I was livid!!
I had never used the Self Clean, and I followed the directions exactly. It was obviously a defect. I couldn't even use the top oven because it is on LOC. I looked on the internet and found that this has happened to many other people.
Angela of Quakertown PA (07/18/06) We moved into a brand new development in August of 2002. The builder used all Maytag appliances in all of the 200 homes in the development. In June of 2005, we began to notice that our gas range oven was not heating properly. We would set the temperature and would find that it would take almost an hour to get up to 200 degrees. We called Maytag, they told us that the range is out of warranty and what the cost would be. We decided to shop around and ended up going with a local appliance repair company.
They came out and determined that the bottom oven ignitor was bad. They replaced it at a total cost of $175. A few weeks later, we found out that MANY of our neighbors had been having the SAME problem with their ranges! Calls to Maytag basically put us all through the 'run-around'. Now, July 2006, just one year and one month after having the ignitor replaced the first time, it appears that I am having the same problem, AGAIN! It is absolutely absurd that a 4 year old oven needs to have the ignitor replaced TWICE!!! In my opinion, this oven is defective and should probably be recalled.
Robin of West Melbourne, FL (04/16/06) Bought the Maytag Gemini Gas range on 11-23-2004 and used it until 8-05 when the upper igniter, in the upper oven, burned itself up, smoked up my house and threw the breaker. New igniter replaced and the service rep suggested the Extended Service Warranty because they have 'had problems'. Did that.
On 11-18-2005, the upper oven burned up, threw the breaker and smoked up the house again. Called repair and they replaced the Electronic control board and igniter AGAIN.
4-10-2006, the lower oven did the same thing. This time there is a silver, sparkling residue on the oven and the oven was on CLEAN when this happened. Oven did NOT clean even though it went through the lock, etc. Called Maytag, asked for a replacement but got a service call. They replaced the electronic control board.
4-12-2006, I am cooking on the stove top and the oven turns itself on (digital) and goes up to 450 then down to 150 and back. Called Maytag furious and the surly woman told me that the would not replace my oven until it had a service call 4 times on the SAME component and that she would not consider this time because they had just been out 2 days ago. I told her that it was a different oven and different problem.
Now service can't come out until 4-17. We are scared of this oven and want a new oven, another brand.
Marie of Trail, Canada (03/24/06) The oven vents along the top of the stove ave discolored when it was self cleaning . It was not terribly dirty and was set to clean 3 hours which it did but all the vents have turned a rusty yellow. I have tried several cleaners on it but have found nothing that works. I have always thought of maytag being great appliances but now I am wondering if this is happening . It is a glass top, top of the line appliance.
Peggy of Wintersville OH (03/07/06) I bought a Maytag range in November 2004 I had trouble with the oven not heating properly. I called the repair service he came out and did a reading of the oven and told myself and my husband there was nothing wrong. The oven still does not work right so I called again for another service call he came out and did the same thing he did before still not working. I called the store and I told them I was not happy with the stove and that I wanted them to replace it. They told me that the service men were very capable of fixing the problems so they came back again.
Now the warranty is off and my stove does not heat properly and I am not able to use my oven. I called again now they tell me that I have to pay for a service call. I am not willing to pay anything to have this problem solved they were out here 3 to 4 times and did nothing to fix my stove. I don't feel that it is my responsibility .They should have fixed it. I called the store and wanted to talk to a manager but did not get a reply he told the saleslady to tell me that he could not do anything. I am so upset that Sears will not stand behind there products they sell.I have bought all my appliances that I have right now from Sears I am a good customer just wanting my stove repaired.
James of Bloomington MN (12/05/05) Maytag gas range Gemini ModelMGR6772BDQ purchased Sept.2003 from a Sears store has been used daily with no mishap until Nov. 30, 2005 when the upper oven door literally exploded without any impact or any type of misuse. The door fronts we learned are made of a heavy safety glass and can suddenly break and disentegrate into small crystals with no obvious reason. This happened about ten minutes after a normal oven use during the cool down.
Glass was thrown up to ten feet away and covered a large area of the kitchen floor. I was just about to go to the oven and open the door when the "explosion" occurred and there were no injuries. Maytag is going to replace the door front and refused my request for a complete exchange of the entire door. My first request was for a new range but did not really expect that could happen.
My wife and I are now reluctant to use the range ovens and knowing that the bottom oven also has the glass exterior makes us cautious about looking into the oven through the glass door window. We were never informed that the doors were made of a heavy safety glass and to all appearances we assumed that they were made from porcelain enameled steel as every other kitchen appliance we have ever owned. The owner's manual has no information or warnings on this.
Patricia of Garner NC (11/04/05) I purchased a smooth top range from Lowe's and the very first time I turned it on it burst into flames (this was not a gas range) because of incorrect wiring inside of the range. Lowe's was very good about coming out right away to replace the range. The second range (same model)seemed to always get too hot when we used the oven and the paint on the outside of the range began to peel off and rusting.
After one cleaning of the oven it started beeping, the lock light remains on and the oven no longer works at all with various F3, F1, F9 error messages flashing. I called to get service on the range and was informed that even though Maytag has had this problem with their ranges for YEARS, they have not corrected the problem nor have even TRIED to correct the problem. This was the most expensive range out there when I purchased it and for the money it should have been practically lined in gold at the most and at the very least better than any other range on any market anywhere; of which neither is true!! Okay, the gold part is an exaggeration!! However, the lack of quality and safety is not.
Kate of Arnold MD (07/29/05) I purchased a Maytag range/oven, model MGR5730BDW in September, 2002. In the last month, the auto pilot light has been operating sporadically in the oven. One more than one occasion, it has not worked, filling the kitchen with natural gas and forcing us to evacuate. I contacted Maytag who said since I did not purchase the extended warranty (why would I need an extended warranty on a product less than 3 years old), it would cost me $130 for someone to come out to look at the oven plus labor and parts.
It was interesting in that the customer service rep, when I mentioned a malfunctioning pilot light, describe the problem back to me before I had a chance to explain, which leads me to believe I'm not the first who's called. Not satisfied, I e-mail their customer service department. The respondent said they had a "fix it yourself" feature where they could provide info on how to fix the problem. Fix a natural gas problem in the oven myself? I don't think so. I will never buy a Maytag product again. I'm having a non-Maytag repair service look at the problem.
Mike of Pittsburgh PA (03/14/05) I have a maytag range MGR5745ADW the ecu had to be replaced when new. Now I've run the self clean mode and the ecu unit displays F1 and by all indications needs replaced at a cost, for just the parts, of 160.00. Is this the price I must pay for a clean oven? This range is only 4 yrs. old. How's that for reliability? I will never purchase another Maytag appliance.
Teresa of Havertown PA (4/27/04):
Three years ago our glass-top Maytag Oven cracked w/thermal breakage. This was replaced by a warranty. Three years later, the same thing has occured and no longer under warranty. Thermal breakage is due to too much heat so I'm told. This oven cannot get any hotter than what it has been manufactured to do. I feel this model should be recalled. It is defective if this keeps happening every 3 years.
Cracks in glass top right through burners. Hand could be cut if wiped. Very dangerous.
Lillian of Esko MN (4/27/04):
We purchased range, model No MER5770AAW on May 25, 1999. Due to cleanliness and our being gone 5 mos of the year, it did not need cleaning until 12/26/02. At that time, after cleaning process, the dial just had F9 blinking and beeping. Called Daughterty Hdwe, Duluth, MN and were told to pull breaker for 10 min and then put back in operation. This did work, so we did nothing more.
On 4/19/04 cleaned oven again and got F9 again and tried breaker method, no results. Called Maytag No. above and was told it was over the warranty for the oven cleaning mechanism. I explained that I had not used the oven cleaning before the one-year warranty and thought I should not be resposible for repairs when it was defective when first used. He was defensive and said I would not have to pay IF I DID NOT GET IT FIXED.
This remark did anger me and has made me very disgusted with the Maytag Co. I bought my first washer, ringer type, and have bought new washers, etc, from Maytag, but do not think I will buy anymore and surely, will not recommend them to others.
Jeanne of Flemington NJ wriets (5/16/02):
Maytag Gas Range Model # MGR575DADW. We purchased this unit apx. 2 years ago. I have used the self-clean feature a few times now and noticed that the burning heat from the oven was venting right below the touch control panel which has a clear plastic cover. The plastic started to bubble the last time I self-cleaned.
Then this time the plastic could not handle the heat and it melted into a huge bubble on the panel. The controls went crazy. I tried to cancel the self-clean process and was not able to. Finally after some time it did turn off and cool down.
The key pad continued beeping through the day and night showing error F1 and F3 messages. Now the top range works but the oven does not function correctly. The oven seems to have a life of its own starting and stopping the gas randomly. I will try and disconnect it until I can get it repaired. But from the sound of it, other people have the same problem with this unit. Maybe a free replacement is in order. I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars to repair a design error and replace the same parts a few years from now.
The fact that the range is starting and turning off makes me fearful of an explosion. I don't want to leave the house with the range malfunctioning. I was up several times throught the night checking the beeping sounds, and to see if I could smell gas.
Tracy of Belmont CA writes (9/18/01):
Model MGR4410BDW Serial #11527859WK Purchased: 10/08/99 at Best Buy. We first experienced problems with the oven when it was about 16 months old and PG&E determined it was emitting poisonous gases due to incomplete combustion. It has been gradually melting the lamination on the cabinets on either side since we have had it, due to excessive heat leakage from the door, and on 8/25/01 the oven stopped working completely. We placed a service call and 3 parts were ordered, but we are still waiting and have been without an oven since then. Each time we ask for a status we are told it will take 7- 10 more days.
Damaged kitchen cabinets will cost hundreds of dollars to repair/replace. We normally bake all of our own breads and all other baked goods which we have had to purchase instead.

We own a Magic Chef gas oven which is approximately 6 years old. Model number 3468XRW. We have replaced the circuit board approximately 3 years ago. It now has started to sound a F-1 alarm at all hours of the day and nite. This is how it started before and eventually stopped working. I now have found other consumers with the same problem.
We get no response from Maytag. I feel an appliance should last longer that 3 years without major cost repairs. Repair 3 years ago cost $125.00 The lastest quote for repair on the message boards is $155.00. Am I supposed to pay this to keep my appliance working every 3 years?
Robert of Cherry Hill NJ writes (6/2/01):
Placed a hot lid on your Maytag Cooktop Model # cse 9000. In less than 2 minutes the glass under the lid exploded.
Thank God my wife was at the sink instead of the stove, she could have been seriously hurt. We replaced the cooktop with a new one that cost us over $500.00 with installation costs added. One of your representatives said you would give us a $50.00 rebate, but I think we deserve a 100% refund.
